Tetrisphere
Review by GrImAcE
"It's just like drugs, addictive and psychedelic"
Ahhh, time t go down memory lane. It's hard to find quality games like this on the good ol' N64 anymore, games this good come on the system very rarely.
Anywayz, ontward to the review:
This is the first TRUE 3D Puzzle game. Sure, there's been Baku Baku with it's pretty movies and graphics, there's been Puzzle Fighter on PSX with it's cute anime type graphics, but the gameplay was no different than the game that came packaged with the Game Boy. That game, was, of course, Tetris. So now yer thinking that this is going to be another crappy tetris cash-in. But you are wrong.
I think the story is that a bunch of funny looking robots are bored and decide to take acid and play with spheres. Sorry, but I think that with those crazy bgz and dizzying speheres, they couldn't of been doing something else other than drugs. Anywayz...
The gameplay is new an old. Basically, on the screen there's this huge sphere, on the inside is a big bright white core, on the outside is a bunch of tetris pieces with crystal cubes. You control a ''shadow'' cursor, which appears in the shape of a tetris piece. When you find a matching piece, which is connected to another matching piece, you ''fire'' the piece and they blow up. I know, it's difficult to understand, but fear not, the game comes with an excellent training mode. Blowing up the pieces with help you dig to get to the core.
Graphics
Ok people, SOMEBODY out there at H2O entertainment is tripping on acid. No really. In the fine tradition of N2O: Nitrous Oxide for PSX, this is another one of those games which features insane, dissying, crisp graphics. The way the sphere moves will make you dizzy, and the backgrounds, well, must be drug influenced, they are all these mind-bending/mind-blowing scenes which are all psychedelic. Anyone who has some sort of medical condition related to motion sickness should stay far away from this game.
Sound
Breakthrough techno soundtrack. Only CD based titles can produce quality music? Bollocks. This game features an AMAZING techno soundtrack which suits the game perfectly. It couldn't of been done better. FX sounds are awesome, too. You must hear it to beleive it.
Game Play
It's the old tetris formula combined with a new formula. It works great. One word will describe the gameplay: flawless.
In other words, get this game, it 'roxors', it kix a-, well, you know that little ol' a word. If you are looking for a game with awesome music, mind-blowing psychedelic graphics combined with some perfect, responsive controls, coupled with 5 modes ofmplay and a 2 player mode and an epic of a challenge, this one won't disspoint.
