Rampage 2: Universal Tour
Review by mrreuter
"Climb. Punch. Repeat."
Game play 2/10: Rampage 2 consists of destroying building with a mutated monster. You do not have any real complicated moves unless you consider choosing between punching OR kicking as complicated. If you can mash a controller you can play this game and be the best. There is a 3 player mode which I never played, but the the 2 player mode was not exciting. Adding one more punching monster could only make this easy game easier.
Control 2/10: Control is absolutely horrible. The characters are not responsive not that you need good control to master this game. Your characters hardly move quickly and seem to have a hard time climbing down from a building before it explodes. You do get a special move which varies upon your character. The special move can only be used when your power meter is charged from destroying buildings.
Story 1/10: Mutated monsters escape from a lab and start to destroy the world city by city. This would be pretty creative if it was 1981.
Graphics 6/10: For a N64 game it is okay with nothing real fancy. Also, characters look rather flat and not 3D. The backgrounds and the actual buildings you destroy look flat. There are cutscenes that try to advance the story but these are horribly drawn.
Overall 1/10: This game is for a six year old. I take that back a six year old may be too advanced for this game. I make that a 4 year old. You need no skill to play this as you all you do is mash the punch button climb some building and repeat. Rampage was fun in the arcade when it first came out over a decade ago. The game has not changed and is not fun at all considering how far games have come.
Rent, buy, or avoid: This game is really bad. I would certainly not recommend buying and I can hardly justify renting. I would avoid Rampage 2 unless you like wasting your money. Thankfully I rented this game thinking it would bring back memories of the old arcade days. It did not all it did was make me feel like I wasted a good portion of my day.
