Waialae Country Club
Review by WweJth
"An average game, nothing more..."
Waialae Country Club was one of the first games on the N64 and it shows for those who have seen it. For Golf Experts out there, this is a actual course that is played on the PGA Tour (Sony Open to be precise) but not putting actual PGA characters on the game or any different courses hurt this game.
Graphics: 5/10
You could tell that this game was done early in the N64 existence because it just looks very dull. The background is o.k. The best view is probably the close ups of the holes. Could have easily been better though, very disappointing.
Sound/Audio: 6/10
With the course in Hawaii, there is a lot of Hawaiian music like in the opening and that can get boring fairly quickly if you're like me, an easy annoyed person. The club sounds are so so, of course for a realistic golf game then, that was to be excepted.
Game play: 4/10
Game play, the most important part of a game is what this game suffers from.
You get to play as four different characters but you can put your name in for that person. You have Exhibition and Championship mode: which is basically no difference between them what so ever. Championship is all in all 4 Exhibitions with a leader board (BIG WHOOP!) Skins games is the most likable thing on this game where you play for money on each hole and that is not great in itself. When I get bored of this game, I just get in the golf cart and drive all over the course. That will most likely be the only thing to keep you from taking the game back. The controls are hard to get the hang of, like on the driver you have a spilt second to hit the ball perfect or you duff or top the ball.
Overall: 4/10
I would give this game a 3.5, but unfortunately I can't so I gave it a 4 out of 10. This is an average game at best.
Positive
+ decent graphics
+ ok sound
+ .............thats it
Negative
- only decent graphics - only ok sound
- bad game play - game gets repetitive
- all in all, just not an enjoyable game
Buy or Rent:
If you want to see what I mean then rent the game. But if you want to buy a golf game, Mario Golf 64 is the better fit.
