Happy gaming. ======================================= 2. Boss Weaknesses / Recommended Order: ======================================= -Bomb Man ---------- Arm Cannon [P] / Fire Storm [F] -Guts Man ---------- Hyper Bomb (B) -Cut Man ----------- Super Arm [G] -Elec Man ---------- Rolling Cutter [C] -Ice Man ----------- Thunder Beam [E] -Fire Man ---------- Ice Slasher [I] =============================== 3. Power-Up Uses and Locations: =============================== Power-Up Use Location ------------------------------------------- Magnet Beam - Creates platforms - Found in Elec Man's stage. Yashichi - Refills Energy & Weapons - Found randomly. ==================== 4. Bomb Man's Stage: ==================== You'll start off this stage moving to the right. Destroy the hoppers that get in your way, then be careful as you traverse the pits so you don't get hit by the enemies that fly out of them. Continue making your way through this section until you reach some robots that pop out of the ground. Destroy these and climb the ladder. Up here, destroy the four red robots that spew energy bullets at you, and keep going up. Up top, take on the Sniper Joe. Keep heading to the right and destroy the missile-like enemies that shoot out of the pits from a distance - they explode into pieces that can damage you. Deal with more of the red cannon robots and the remaining enemies in this section. Climb the ladder and jump across the blocks to the next ladder and climb up it as well. Traverse the spikes section carefully while defeating the enemies that orbit you. Avoid their shots as they shoot in a circle, which is potentially dangerous if you're in the wrong place. From here, continue heading to the right, destroying the next Sniper Joe and the rest of the orbiting enmies and you'll find yourself at the boss gate. Inside, take out the cannon enemies, then fall down the long shaft while holding Left to avoid the enemies here, and you'll find yourself at Bomb Man. Bomb Man Strategy ================= This Robot Master is really easy to beat. He'll mostly bound around the room throwing bombs at you with precision accuracy, so you'll want to keep moving. Just blast him with your Arm Cannon while he's jumping up and down to take damage on him. If you get too close, he'll leap across the room and throw a bomb at you, but this shouldn't be too much of a problem. Keep up the rapid-fire to deal more damage to him than he can to you and this battle will be over very quickly. ==================== 5. Guts Man's Stage: ==================== His stage is short, but tough. Start off by destroying the three Mets at the beginning, and get ready for the hardest part of the stage. You have to make it across a wide chasm while maneuvering on some platforms that are very tricky to stay on. The idea is to cross it from platform to platform while not getting dropped. Every time a platform crosses a break in the path, it'll flip, so you have to be extremely quick-witted to make it through. It'll take some practice, but don't get too frustrated. After you make it through, head through this next section while taking out the helicopter robots and enemies that throw stuff at you. When you get to the split, take the middle path and grab the power-ups as you fall down. Next, take out the large blue robot quickly, other- wise you stand a good chance of getting killed as he takes a lot of energy off if he hits you. You'll make it to the boss gate, and take out the Mets as you come across them. If you're low on energy, keep scrolling them back on the screen to refill your supply. Guts Man Strategy ================= He's probably the easiest Robot Master in the game. Keep in mind that the Hyper Bombs are time-delayed, so try to predict where he'll land so the explosions catch him. Other than that, avoid his jumping attack and his rock chucking and you'll beat him. =================== 6. Cut Man's Stage: =================== Climb the ladder at the beginning and head right while dealing with the swooping robots. At the end of this section, you'll find a ladder, so climb it and take out the wall clingers. Keep heading up while getting rid of these enemies. Further along the way, these sections will get more and more complicated, but you should be able to adapt. At the top, you'll have to deal with a scissor throwing robot; avoid it and move on. Defeat some more of the swooping enemies, and head down the ladder at the end. Here there are a few more of the Suzy enemies. Shoot them while continuing on downward. Be very careful through this section as there are spikes that you really don't want to land on, so take the ladders. As you move on, you'll find another of the giant blue robots - provided you already beat Guts Man, you can chuck some blocks at him; otherwise use your Arm Cannon. After you beat him, you'll reach the boss gate. Enter it and defeat the ceiling enemies and go on to face Cut Man. Cut Man Strategy ================ Another easy boss, Cut Man tends to stay on the offensive rather than the defensive. If you have the Super Arm, you can chuck the blocks in the room at him for an easy victory, otherwise you'll have to stick it out with the Arm Cannon. Just make sure you watch out for his Rolling Cutter as it's pretty tough to avoid (it boomerangs), and he's difficult to clear with your jumps when it's attached to his head. He shouldn't give you many problems though. ==================== 7. Elec Man's Stage: ==================== This mostly vertical stage is quite difficult. From the start, you'll need to shoot the red spinners to freeze them so you can ascend this first section. Jump back and forth between the platforms until you reach the ladder. Up top, freeze two more of them and head up the next ladder. Deal with the two blocks that shoot electricity, and time it so you can move on while they're not shooting at you. Next, you have to ascend a very long ladder while avoiding the green electric shooters that float down. They're tough, and may require a bit of practice to get it right. At the very top, head across the easy pattern of disappearing blocks to reach another ladder. The next section is a bit of a trick section; you are supposed to jump from block to block (but don't head to get the energy as it's a trap), while trying to reach the ladder at the top. Climb it, and you'll find two options - a left hand and right hand ladder. Take the right hand one as to make your journey easier. You'll encounter more of the green electricity shooting enemies, but deal with them the same as you did before, and avoid more of the blocks that shoot out electrical currents. Climb it carefully and head into the next section. Magnet Beam =========== When you get to an area with some blocks you can remove with the Super Arm, do so to reach the strange blue object behind them. Collect it and you'll be able to use the new Magnet Beam to create stepping platforms for yourself. Continue making your way up the next long ladder while avoiding the next set of electric enemies and head up top, where you'll find a giant hopping robot that will also deal much damage. Get him to jump down the ladder while shooting him. Use the Super Arm to remove the block and then create a platform for yourself using the Magnet Beam to get up to the next area. Here maneuver across the next set of blocks and climb the ladder. Deal with another giant hopper robot and you'll reach the boss gate. Enter it and avoid the electric currents, and head on to face Elec Man. Elec Man Strategy ================= Of the initial six, Elec Man is the hardest. Be sure you have the Rolling Cutter before taking this one on, as only three hits with the Thunder Beam are required before you're toasted. Your best bet is to rapid fire the Rolling Cutter at him before he can hit you with his weapon. If you don't have full energy prior to this battle, make sure that you have a life in reserve and kill yourself at Elec Man's hands; this gives you a better edge in fighting him. Be very cautious in this battle. =================== 8. Ice Man's Stage: =================== Despite how straightforward it is, Ice Man's stage is still a rather difficult one to traverse. At the beginning destroy all the enemies that come across your path, and head into the water. Keep in mind that Mega Man's jumps do not go high in this game. Take out the penguin robots and move on. Head down the long tube into the next area, and jump on the disappearing blocks to reach the top. Once up there, jump down the tunnel. Here's yet another disappearing block sequence, so get past it and continue onwards. The next section is tough; you are supposed to jump from platform to platform without getting shot out of the air, but you can always do like I did and use the Magnet Beam to get you across. Take on the penguins as you come across them, and you should get past this. Get the items here if you need them, and make your way to the end, where you'll drop down another tunnel. Here, destroy the hopping robots taht are in your path, and keep heading to the right while destroying anything in your path, and you'll eventually reach the boss gate. Enter it and destroy the penguins while making your way to the end, where you'll fight Ice Man. Ice Man Strategy ================ This one's another tough boss. His pattern is rather predictable, however, his speed makes it difficult to hit him. He jumps in the air, and slowly float back down, all the while firing Ice Slasher attacks at you, which are rather difficult to avoid. The key is to electrocute him with the Thunder Beam (a good idea is to use the Pause and Resume trick here) as it destroys him in but three hits. ==================== 9. Fire Man's Stage: ==================== Ah, back to an easy stage. Fire Man's stage looks a bit complex, but it's about as easy as Bomb Man's was, really. Take out the cannon robots here and head to the right, cross- ing a series of platforms and ladders. Avoid the lava balls as they rain and home in on you, and avoid the fire waves that shoot out of the floors. Get to the ladder at the end and climb it. Head up this next set of ladders, and watch the timing of the blocks shooting fire (like from Elec Man's stage), and get past them. If you need a recharge, use the ladder to keep scrolling the energy capsules onto the screen (remember this is the only Mega Man game that this can be done in). Next, avodi the fire shooters and head down the ladder. Deal with a few more of the raining lava balls and maneuever through another ladder and platform series similar to what was seen at the beginning of this stage. Eventually, you'll reach the boss gate, so enter it and avoid the ceiling enemies and head onwards to fight Fire Man. Fire Man Strategy ================= Yet another easy boss, Fire Man will mostly stay run towards you trying to hit you with his Fire Storm. Use the Ice Slasher to cool him down. If you get too close to him, he'll recoil and jump backwards, but this shouldn't be too much of a problem for you. Beat him to gain the Fire Storm. =============================== 10. Dr. Wily's Castle, Stage 1: =============================== Near the beginning, you'll find another giant hopper robot. Defeat him and move on. There are two more after it, so either beat them or just avoid then. Use the Super Arm to move the blocks and enter the castle area. Head right avoiding the fire shooters and get to the ladder. Climb up getting the energy if you need it, go down the next ladder, and head from platform to platform while avoiding the spike traps that line the floor. Go down the ladder to face a more annoying version of the section in Ice Man's stage where you had to leap from one platform to another. Use the Magnet Beam for a slightly easier time, but you may want to conserve energy for later. After you make it through here, you need to really use the Magnet Beam to climb vertically a long tunnel. At the top, head left while making more platforms with the Beam, and go up the ladder at the end. Head right to reach the boss gate. Yellow Devil Strategy ===================== Use the Thunder Beam coupled with the Pause and Resume trick detailed in the Secrets and Tips section. If you're able to do it right, you can kill the Devil in one shot! The only thing you really have to watch out for is the Devil's disintegration technique. From the start, head to the far right and alternately jump over the blocks as they come flying at you. Then use the Thunder Beam to hit it when the eye opens. =============================== 11. Dr. Wily's Castle, Stage 2: =============================== From the platform where you start off, jump over the small pit and take out the enemies here. Keep heading to the right while destroying the repetitive green copter enemies. Eventually, you'll reach a fake floor where you drop in to fight Cut Man. Unfortunately, this time around, you have no blocks to chuck at him, so you'll have to take him out with your normal Arm Cannon. After you take him down, head to the left side of the screen to fall through another fake floor to re-fight Elec Man. Defeat him again and move to the left again to fall through another fake floor. This time evade the enemies that come flying out of pits while making your way to your right. Head down the ladder you eventually come to and keep heading down. Destroy the enemies you encounter through this section. Collect all the energy you possibly can while continuing your downward descent. Eventually, you'll reach the boss room. Mega Clone Strategy =================== This battle can be difficult given that your clone will switch weapons whenever you do, so it's a bit hard to get in hits without him doing the same to you. So use the handy Pause and Resume trick with the Thunder Beam for a slightly less hassling victory! =============================== 12. Dr. Wily's Castle, Stage 3: =============================== Destroy the Suzy robots and head down the pit. Use the Thunder Beam to destroy the enemies here and head into the narrow area. Head through this section until the giant wave comes rushing through. As you're pushed along, destroy the penguins that you come across, and watch out for the explosive ones. As soon as you get through this harrowing section, you'll find yourself at the boss gate. Bubble Maker Strategy ===================== For one, don't be tempted to use the blocks in the room - you'll need them later. Start off by using the Arm Cannon on the first three bubbles and use the Super Arm to chuck rocks at the remaining one. The bubbles get increasingly faster as you progress, which is why it's best to save the blocks for the last one, as it moves really quickly. You can try the Pause and Resume trick here, but it didn't seem to work spectacularly for me. ================ 13. Final Stage: ================ Jump up to get to the ladder, and climb it. Try to avoid the green robots as you climb. Once at the top, head right. Destroy the enemies here, but move quickly. Head up the two ladders and get to the annoying rehash of Guts Man's stage. Maneuver across the platform section and make your way to the small teleport. Here, you'll fight the remaining Robot Masters in the following order: Bomb Man, Fire Man, Ice Man, and Guts Man. Simply keep stepping into the teleport machine to take you to each fight, and after you beat Guts Man, step into the teleport to warp to the battle against Dr. Wily. Dr. Wily Strategy (Phase 1) =========================== Start off using the Thunder Beam and the Pause and Resume trick to destroy the shield on the front of his ship. Keep pounding it until it's gone, and on to... Dr. Wily Strategy (Phase 2) =========================== After the shield is gone, use the Rolling Cutter to attack from afar, or use the Fire Storm if you want to take more damage. Try hitting Wily with the actual fireballs that orbit you to take a little bit more damage. Make sure you aim for the flashing part on the front. Keep at it until you defeat him. ================= 14. Boss Weapons: ================= - Arm Cannon (P) - Mega Man shoots plasma bullets, and can fire up to three at a time. - Hyper Bomb (B) - Mega Man tosses a black bomb in an arcing pattern. It detonates after a preset time limit, so vary the timing of your throws to inflict damage. - Super Arm (G) - Mega Man can pick up certain blocks and chuck them. - Rolling Cutter (C) - Mega Man throws a scissor blade in an arc. - Thunder Beam (E) - Mega Man shoots a winding thread of electricity. See the Secrets and Tips section for a hidden use for this weapon. - Ice Slasher (I) - Mega Man shoots an ice arrowhead forward. It can freeze stuff in its path. - Fire Storm (F) - Mega Man shoots a blast of fire, while fireballs briefly orbit him. ===================== 15. Secrets and Tips: ===================== 1. The Magnet Beam will only consume energy when you first press the fire button. As you hold it, the platform gets longer and longer. You can also build staircases by creating multiple platforms at once. 2. The Pause and Resume trick is a classic one that works only in the original NES version (No, the Complete Works remake and the Wily Wars remake don't include it). Press SELECT when you fire your weapon and rapidly hit it to put the game into slow- motion. While doing this, your weapon can actually "crawl" through the enemy, taking a hit with each step. It makes for easy defeats of Ice Man, the Yellow Devil, your clone, and Wily. ========== 16.
