Clash at Demonhead is a non-linear action adventure side-scroller released by
Vic Tokai for the NES in 1990. I feel it has always been overlooked as one of
the great classics for the NES, and it has aged very well. I consider this a
must-play for anyone looking for a diamond in the rough for the NES. It’s also
relatively inexpensive to buy, so if you have the resources definitely pick up
a copy!

My aim when creating walkthroughs is to provide players easy-to-read
instructions and the bare bones of what they need to do in order to complete
the game. I am not here to delve into EVERY nook-and-cranny of the game, but
rather to provide the best walkthrough possible.

I wholeheartedly support anyone who wants to play through a game without any
outside assistance, but this is for someone who wants to complete the game as
pain-free as possible, cutting down on time wasted. Clash at Demonhead is much
more difficult to complete without any outside help.

The intricate details of what are to be encountered will be left for the player
to manage, but I will gives you a heads up when needed so you won’t be left
hanging or lost.

This is a format I would like to use for all of my submissions, so if you like
it let me know! If you find any of this information helpful or have any
constructive criticism to provide, please contact me at napstrpsx@gmail.com.

| SHOP/INVENTORY SCREEN INFORMATION <SISI> |
 - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Without the use of the shop, you cannot get items. As noted in the walkthrough
portion, Route 5 is the only place you can access the shop for free - outside
of that you must use shop calls. You begin the game with one shop call.

So, to clarify, if you have no shop calls (always keep at least one in your
inventory!) and you need something you will need to go to Route 5.

So... you have items, now what? You access everything via the inventory screen.
The only time you cannot access the inventory screen is when you are on the
overworld map. When inside of a level (referred to as routes in the game and
walkthrough), you can access the inventory screen with SELECT.

Take note that only 1 of each of the 3 types of special shots listed below can
be in effect at once, and once they have been selected you must use it until
the ammo for that portion is gone. If you switch to another type of shot,
whatever you were just using will be completely gone and the ammo is wasted.
The maximum that can be carried of each item is 3.

Here is the price and a brief description of each item:

BARRIER ($5000): Creates a barrier around Bang rendering him invincible from
enemy fire. In fact, you can just jump into normal enemies and they will be
destroyed on contact. That is, until it soaks in enough punishment and
disappears. Recommended for tight areas where it is very difficult to avoid
enemy fire.

ROLLING STAR ($3000): A fancy boomerang-style shot. Can travel through walls
but is a little hard to use well. Not mentioned in the walkthrough but feel
free to experiment with it. 50 ammo per portion.

POWERBALL ($4000): A small projectile that travels along the surface it lands
on. It can also be fired upwards. This special ammo is also not mentioned in
the walkthrough, but try it out if you’d like. 36 ammo per portion.

THUNDERSHOT ($8000): My favored weapon for dealing with tough situations. It
has a very wide range and is very powerful. It not only dishes out punishment
but also does a nice job of clearing out any incoming fire in its wake. 15 ammo
per portion.

SHOP CALL ($2000): Calls the shop at will. Always keep at least 1 in your
inventory, I can’t stress that enough. You begin the game with 1 Shop Call.

POWER BOOTS ($5000): Greatly increases the speed of Bang. This allows you to
run faster and jump higher. They’re stylish, too!

JET PACK ($8000): Allows Bang to jetpack very quickly in any direction. When
you can afford it, it’s sure to shorten your travel time. Once a Jet Pack is
on, hold "A" to active the jets. Let go to walk and jump normally - your red
bar only diminishes when the jets are on.

AQUA LUNG ($7000): Allows Bang to travel much more quickly underwater. But,
more importantly you do not take lack of oxygen damage when underwater with
this. The red bar diminishes only when you are fully submerged under water.

SUPERSUIT ($9990): Allows Bang to travel in lava. We thank the shop for meeting
this important need for us thrill-seeking consumers. It also has the same
protection as the barrier, but the stamina bar for the suit drains quickly when
it is damaged. Though your shots may look more powerful when you have the
Supersuit on, there’s no difference. All suits have the same strength when
firing.

MICRORECORDER ($1000): Provides a password for you that can be entered on the
title screen. You begin the game with 1 Microrecorder.

ULTRA FOOD ($2000): Used on the inventory screen. Restores one block of health
each. You begin the game with 3 Ultra Foods.

DYNAPUNCH ($1000): Used on the inventory screen. Supplies 17 Force Points when
used. No reason to keep these sitting in your inventory screen. If you’ve got
‘em - use ‘em! If you can afford it and they are being offered when shopping,
I recommend making it a habit to pick them up.

| WALKTHROUGH <WTHRU> |
 - - - - - - - - - - -

When traveling, you will encounter various plot events. These events are left
out of the walkthrough so that they will be a surprise for you, and in my
opinion making the experience more enjoyable. I think they are very good by NES
standards - kick back and enjo! You came here for a spoiler-free walkthrough,
right? On we go!

1) You begin the game at the overworld map. Your only choice is route 1, so
take it. I recommend always picking up money and apples when possible. It’s
worth going out of your way to do so. Apples give you 10 Force points (quantity
viewable on the inventory screen) while $ signs give you 950 gold. Hearts
restore one block of life. I will not always explicitly say to go to the exit,
but it is implied that you progress forward until you do.

2) Take route 3. Anytime there’s water in a level you actually take a little
damage every time you jump and submerge in for a second. The only way to try
and avoid this is to minimize the number of times you jump OR if you press "A"
just as your boots are going into the water you’ll jump right back up. You have
to time it just right but if you can continue jumping in this manner you will
not take water damage, but you’ll still probably get hit by some bullets! Don’t
move back and forth too much; focus on pressing forward and killing what you
can.

3) Take route 12. If you happen to fall into a pit on this level or any level,
you do not die. Instead, generally you fall into a pit of enemies and there is
an exit on either side. No matter which one you go to it will return you to the
last overworld point you were at and you have to begin the route again. Don’t
overestimate Bang’s jumping ability - when there is a gap always jump near the
very end of the ledge to ensure you make it.

4) Take route 17. Unless you want to put your platforming skills to the test,
buy a pair of Power Boots or preferably a Jet Pack. In case you don’t know, you
can remove a suit and revert back to normal if you go into the inventory screen
and press "A" on what you currently have selected to put it back in the
inventory. This only works for suits.

***ON SHOPS**********************************
IMPORTANT!!!
SOME ITEMS ARE NOT INITIALLY AVAILABLE, LIKE THE JET PACK. THE MORE YOU VISIT
THE SHOP, THE MORE THAT OPENS UP. And, even after that, each time you call the
shop you may not be able to buy the item you want, it will have X’s where the
price should be. This means that you have visited the shop enough times for
them to begin offering it, but they’re not selling it right now. Exit and call
the shop again and it will probably show up... certain items tend to flip-flop
on whether or not they will be for sale. That’s why it’s a good idea to stock
up when you can so there’ll be a little less hassle for you.

SHOPS CANNOT BE CALLED WHEN YOU ARE IN AN UNDERGROUND AREA. You will know if
you are in such an area if you press "START" to view your current route and it
says, "ROUTE UNKNOWN." Try to be prepared if you are about to enter one.

If you take anything away from this section, let it be this - NEVER LEAVE THE
SHOP WITHOUT HAVING ANOTHER SHOP CALL IN YOUR INVENTORY! Buying a replacement
shop call should always be your first purchase; they’re only $2000 each. If
Dynapunches are available and you’ve got enough money, buy 3 and drink them
after you’re done shopping for easy force points.

To get to the free shop if you happen to run out of shop calls, here’s how to
get to route 5: See the route at the very bottom of the overworld map? That’s
route 1. Route 2 is directly above that. At the top of route 2, the route
leading to the left into what looks like a small pool of water is route 5. Go
there and you’ll find the shop if you walk on the "WELCOME" sign.

Pressing B on an item when shopping will give you an in-game description for
it.

When you choose END, the clerk will give you a prompt saying, "I’ll buy what
you don’t need, but I’ll need a $2000 discount." To sell something, choose YES
and he will then say, "Choose from any item you see." To sell something you
have to press SELECT to go to the Inventory Screen and press "A" on the item
you would like to sell. He will give you the value minus $2000. You cannot sell
something valued at $2000 or less, or used items (like a suit that has been
used and had its red bar diminished). This part can be a bit confusing so I’m
expounding on it.
*********************************************

One thing you can try in Route 17 is to put the jet pack on but don’t use the
jets unless you’re about to fall. Hold "A" while in the air to start using the
jets. Use just enough to get on the nearest platform to conserve fuel. But,
cruising through works too. : ) You need to get to the end of the route before
exiting the way you came. If you fall on the way back, you don’t need to return
to route 17.

5) Take route 14.

6) Take route 6. Fall to the bottom and you should see something you can walk
to just to the left that will take you inside another area. Continue through
this area, traveling left to get taken to yet another area. If you ended up at
the overworld junction that joins routes 3, 9, 12, and 6 you went too far. Go
back into route 6 all the way to the right and drop down.

7) Once outdoors, you are now in Route 35! You can see this if you press start
to look at the overworld. Continue on this path, ignoring the first door that
is inaccessible and go into the one that is the screen above it.

ROUTE 35 BOSS STRATEGY
Note that anytime you enter a boss battle, you cannot leave through the way you
came in until the boss has been defeated.

This boss shouldn’t pose much of a problem to you. Jump over it when necessary.
The weakness for this boss is hitting it low while you’re crouching, and the
boss needs to be facing you. If it knocks you back, approach with caution! Let
the boss come to you, keep your distance and don’t bum rush it. You should see
an expression on the boss signifying you are damaging it. Wail on it and the
boss will die quickly.

After defeating the boss, hop up above and an event will take place. You now
have access to "Hermit’s 5 Forces" on the inventory screen. You also have two
additional life bars!

- - - - - - - - - -
IMPORTANT!
Before continuing, you may want to buy a Jet Pack. It will likely save you time
and frustration in the near future.
- - - - - - - - - -

Go back to the door on this route that was inaccessible. If you are hurt, the
heart here respawns every time you re-enter that screen. When you’re ready, go
to Hermit’s 5 Forces via the inventory screen and use Micro Power. This costs
50 Force points to use. Awww, cute little Bang. Your sprite still changes
depending on what suit you have on! You can barely make it out, but it’s there.
Nice attention to detail, huh? Continue through until you reach a point where
you can see you’re in the middle of a vertical shaft with no platforms in
sight. If you fall, down below there is a pool of lava waiting for you. This is
where it’s recommend you use a jet pack to fly up and out of the pit. Once you
get out of that hell hole, exit LEFT.

*IF YOU DIED AFTER USING MICRO POWER*
If you die, you will be returned to junction that joins route 6 & 14 on the
very bottom-right of the overworld map. This is not where we want to be for
this walkthrough. We want to be at the junction that’s at the very bottom-left
of the overworld map that joins 10, 8, and 4, which is where you would have
ended up if you would have made it out alive. There are 2 ways to get there:

Method 1: Travel on foot going through Route 6 (NOT using the statue that
transports you to the path that leads to the hermit) to the other normal exit
and then take routes 3 and 4. After exiting through the left end of 4, you’ll
be there.

Method 2: Use the statue on route 6 again and make your way to the vertical
shaft that had the lava that may have killed you. Again, the safest way to get
through is to either use a jet pack up the left wall, or if you buy a Supersuit
you can fall down to the lava, and then jump up to the left wall and slowly
climb your way out. If you use a jetpack, once you come out of the pit and back
to normal ground go LEFT to use that exit.
* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

So, you’re at the junction that joins routes 10, 8, and 4, right? OK, before
continuing...

*****************************
Here’s some additional info on Hermit’s 5 Forces:
At first, you will only have Micro Power available. Your force total can now go
over the maximum of 99, up to 999. When you hold 200, 300, 400, and 500 force
points you will unlock new abilities. Here are all of them.

1. Micro Power (initially available)
Force point cost: 50
"When you get to micro size, you can go into very small places"

2. Teleport (Available once you’ve had at least 200 force points)
Force point cost: 60
"You can select routes that you have passed by before"

3. Levitation (Available once you’ve held at least 300 force points)
Force point cost: 80
"You can levitate"
Explanation: You can move freely in the air, but not as fast
as with the jet pack. You can fire easily to the left or right, but once you
take damage you revert back to normal.

4. Energizer (Available once you’ve held at least 400 force points)
Force point cost: 100
"Reach full power."
Explanation: heals you completely.

5. Karate Power (Available once you’ve held at least 500 force points)
Force point cost: 120
"Become invincible for 30 seconds"
Explanation: Yes, you’re invincible for 30
seconds, which is actually a pretty long time.

Once one of these abilities is unlocked, it’s there for good.

Beware that anytime you die, the amount of Force points you had will be cut in
half. Even if you’re at or near rock-bottom, with a few purchases of Dynapunch
from the shop you’ll have enough to teleport. Even getting enough to be able to
perform Energizer doesn’t take too long if you keep calling the shop and drink
Dynapunch - it does a body good.
*****************************

8) Take route 10. You can jump through one of the gaps in the ceiling for an
optional event. You will encounter at least one difficult gap to cross in this
route. Destroy any enemies coming up first. It is possible to jump across
normally, but if you have Power Boots or a Jet Pack, use that for a moment to
get across.

9) Take route 7. Go inside the door you’ll encounter.

ROUTE 7 BOSS STRATEGY

At first, the boss is not able to even damage you. It is content bouncing
around and following you. After 5 shots, it will grow! The boss still cannot
damage you. After 5 more shots, it will grow yet again, looking a bit more
menacing. Surprisingly, the boss still cannot damage you. After 5 more shots,
the boss takes its true form.

*without upgrades*
Now the real battle begins. It opens up by spawning more enemies. Do not try to
damage the boss at this time, focus on taking out all of the enemies without
them damaging you.

After that’s over, it just moves back and forth hopping over you. Do NOT jump
to try and avoid it. Wait for it to jump, and then take a step or two so that
won’t take any damage - this is the key to winning. Try to stay in the middle
of the room, if you’re on the side you won’t be able to avoid taking hits. To
damage the boss you must fire in its mouth. You will know if you’ve damaged the
boss if it flashes red. It takes 15 shots to kill. Try to be accurate with your
shots. As always, if you think it will help don’t be shy about downing some
Ultra Food to help you and your little life bar out. Practice makes perfect.

*with upgrades*
Upgrades actually don’t help as much as they normally do in this boss battle.
Thundershot often misses and I find it harder to concentrate on dodging, which
is really the critical part. If you’re really struggling with this, get enough
force to be able to use the Hermit power "Energizer" or even "Karate Power".
With that and 3 Ultra Foods you should be able to come out on top. If you took
the time to be able to use Karate Power, it is still difficult to hit the boss,
and you probably won’t be able to finish it off before invincibility wears away
- but it helps nonetheless!

Leave the room and exit the stage to the right.

10) Take route 8. This may look familiar. It’s easiest to use Power Boots or a
Jet Pack to get across the gap. Continue to the left until you reach the exit,
do NOT go below ground. This will be the last time I will warn about any gaps.
I’m going to leave it up to you to do whatever it takes to manage through them.
Just as a general suggestion, if you haven’t found out already keeping a Jet
Pack on hand can make your life easier. Just don’t use them too much as it gets
expensive.

11) Take route 4.

12) Take route 2.

13) Take route 5. If you ever want to, near the beginning of this level is a
good place to farm for money and apples. There are several easy-to-kill
floating enemies that respawn as you move back and forth.

Climb up the wall and continue until you see a WELCOME sign walk across it to
call a shop. This is the only free shop in the game and is where you’ll need to
go if you ever run out of shop calls. After you use it, to access it again you
will need to exit the screen completely either through the water or to the
right and down again and come back.

Use an Aqua Lung to go underwater. Hold down and you’ll go to the next screen
that’s completely underwater. Time is money when you’re using any suit, so take
that into consideration. Sometimes, it pays to be reckless. >:) Actually, I
think you’ll find you might take less damage if you don’t fire at all. Find
what works for you. Try to use no more than half of your red bar while
underwater at this point. This way when you come back through you’ll have
enough left to make it back out, it’s possible to make a round trip with 1 Aqua
Lung here.

You’ll eventually come to the mines. Use your gun to shoot the walls and get
hearts. At the bottom, you’ll be at the gold mine. Blast away to uncover pieces
of Gold. You’ll be able to get money for this later. Every time you clear it
out you can go up one screen, then drop right back down to get more. Before too
long you can get the max of 99. Press SELECT at anytime to go to your inventory
screen and you’ll be able to see how much gold you currently have. Leave route
5 the way you entered when you’re done with everything.

14) Take route 11. Eventually, you’ll come to a door.

ROUTE 11 BOSS STRATEGY
At the beginning of the battle, be ready to jump over the boss quickly. It will
move back and forth without cease until you damage it. The boss takes no damage
if you hit it in the back.

*Without upgrades*
Try to hit the boss when it is far away from you. As soon your bullet meets its
face, it will not take too kindly to that. See the expression it makes when you
hit it? That’s the only time you’re actually doing damage. Kneeling and firing
will not work.

To return the favor it fires a barrage of fireballs at you. Remain calm and do
not jump. Fire straight ahead while standing to destroy the boss’s lowest
fireball. Then, duck under the one that’s above that and try to damage it again
as soon as it lands. As the boss comes back down to the ground, you will need
to duck under its lowest fireball. The boss does not fire the really low one on
its way down so there’s no need to blast any out of the way.

After this, the boss goes into the routine of going back and forth until you
hit it in the face. If you can master this pattern, you’ll be able to take out
the boss after several shots. Try to give yourself as much room as necessary.
Don’t forget you can use Ultra Food to recover some health. If you struggle,
it’s OK, this isn’t exactly a walk in the park. It’s also possible to run under
the boss as it’s coming back down, but it’s harder to do than jumping over the
boss when it’s not firing.

*With Barrier and Thundershot*
If you’re having trouble taking down bosses, Barrier and Thundershot are your
friends. In this battle, Thundershot will eliminate most of its fire and clear
the way. Your main concern is to jump over the boss when needed. With
Thundershot, you can’t really tell how much damage your doing. But, after using
up about a full round the boss should be about dead if it isn’t already. If you
really want to show what Bang’s made of or if you can’t win any other way,
Karate Power works well. Keep the pressure on and try to damage the boss as
soon as it lands.

Leave the room and use the exit just to the right.

15) Take route 9.

16) Take route 12.

17) Take route 20.

18) Take route 18.

19) Take route 16.

ROUTE 16 BOSS STRATEGY
Heh, there’s a preliminary match. Stand at the VERY left-end of the screen and
you will be free from incoming fire.

*without upgrades*
Once the battle begins, you’re in a familiar scenario - the boss is pretty tame
until you damage it. Fire at its cap and it will be used as a projectile to
come after you! Damaging the cap is the only way to end the battle.

Fire from far away and try to get in hits as it comes towards you. When it’s at
ground level kneel and try to pile on at least 3-5 shots. Once it gets close,
jump to the right and over it. Walk to the right until a barrage of bombs is
dropped behind you. Then, immediately walk to the left and the boss will drop a
second barrage of bombs where you just were and you won’t take any damage.

In this battle if you can put the heat on, you’ll be able to kill the boss
before it can kill you even if you’re not good at avoiding its attack. All in
all, it shouldn’t be too difficult. Upgrades aren’t necessary, but some Ultra
Food could come in handy!

*with upgrades*
The only extra help you may need is a dose of Energizer or Karate Power.
Anything else isn’t worth it, don’t use Thundershot. For this battle your focus
should really be doing the most damage you can.

Once the boss is defeated, exit the route to the right.

*NOTE*
STEPS 20-24 ARE OPTIONAL BUT HIGHLY RECOMMENDED, ESPECIALLY IF THIS IS YOUR
FIRST TIME PLAYING. THEY PROVIDE SOME EXTRA CONTENT TO FLESH OUT THE STORY, AS
WELL AS SOME ITEMS! IF YOU ARE SKIPPING OUT ON THIS, HEAD TO STEP 25 OF THE
WALKTHROUGH.

20) Take route 25.

21) Take route 32. You’ll eventually reach a dead end. Exit the way you came
through the ceiling, but immediately go back to check on your friend. Repeat
this 2 more times. You just received one of every item!

22) Take route 36.

23) Take route 31. Eventually you will reach the end of the route. BEFORE
PROCEEDING make sure you have either Power Boots, a Jet Pack, or Thundershot.

ROUTE 31 BOSS STRATEGY
For the first part of the battle, don’t use any upgrades. Mash the fire button
while standing against your first target to prevent any fire from hitting you.
You should win out soon, triggering the second part.

*without upgrades*
You’ll need to use the Power Boots, Jet Pack, or Thundershot to damage either
of the targets up on the ledges. You can stand just to the right of the left
enemy and unload on it. If instead you have Thundershot, stand in the corner of
the screen, jump and fire a few times. Before long it will take a different
form.

Hmm... it’s just standing there. Oh yeah, you gotta damage it, right? Do so,
and try to get in 4-5 shots all together. Damaging the body is the only way to
kill the boss. You will need to immediately try to fire a barrage of bullets
right above the head to clear out some more heads. Try to destroy the bottom 2
that spawn and then walk to the right so the rest of the heads go above you and
bomb to the left. Repeat this until you destroy the boss.

*with upgrades*
With Barrier and Thundershot, stand at the left edge of the screen and fire
constantly, hopping some helps too! The wide range of your fire will both take
out the boss heads and damage the body. You should destroy the boss no problem.
Don’t kneel to fire, otherwise most of your Thundershot will fire low, not
destroying the heads. With Karate Power you can kick like Bruce Lee and it
still may not go down before 30 seconds runs out, but it will be on the verge
of death. Fire quickly to finish it off if that happens.

Exit route 31 the way you came in.

24) Make your way back to the top of Route 16 so you can take route 23. If
you’ll look at the overworld, you’ll see a route that runs straight up and down
in the middle of the screen. That’s Route 16. You want to be at the junction
that’s at the top of it. Route 23 runs left and up just a bit over a river.
Teleport there or travel on foot.

Take note that if you decide to take route 29 to work your way there, you’ll
have to get through route 27 as well - in which case you’ll need a Supersuit to
travel past a pool of lava.

25) Take route 23.

26) Take route 24.

27) Take route 22. Time to exchange all of your gold! In the middle of the
route there will be a building to enter. BUT - before entering, try to spend
all of the cash you have on hand, otherwise the money you’re about to get may
flow over the maximum you can carry... and that would be a bit of a waste. You
also want to make sure you have more than 1 shop call before entering. It costs
one shop call to exchange gold, so if you only have one you’ll be left without
means to shop again unless you backtrack to route 5!

Once inside, you’ll have the option of choosing the left or right panel. If you
get a $1,000 - congratulations! That’s the best you can do, and with 99 gold
you’ll max out on money even if you came in broke. You may only get $100, $300,
or $500 per nugget, and that’s OK too. This event takes all of your gold, so
you can’t participate again until you come back with more. Oh well, it was fun
while it lasted.

Proceed through the rest of the route.

28) Take route 28. Near the beginning, you’ll see something protruding at the
surface of the water. You might want to have 2 Aqua Lungs on hand before
plunging down in case your first one doesn’t last long enough. You want to go
to the screen that is directly below the protrusion you see in the water. Down
we go!

ROUTE 28 BOSS STRATEGY
*without upgrades*
Stay at the left edge of the screen, and relentlessly fire towards the boss. As
long as you stay firing, you should be able to take out most of the projectiles.
If the boss gets near you, fire quickly as that’s your chance to do a lot of
damage. If the Aqua Lung you’re wearing wears off, be sure to suit up with
another one!

*with upgrades*
With Thundershot, this battle is even easier. Stay near the bottom left and
keep firing. The boss will go down before long. Karate Power works pretty good,
just be aggressive and damage as much as possible, it is possible to defeat the
boss before your invincibility time wears off but not really recommended.

29) Now you need to get to route 15. If you’ll open up your overworld map by
pressing START, notice just to the right-center of the map there is a circular
pool of water with a route that stops in the middle of that circle. That’s
route 15. Head there by foot or teleport to the base of the route. Near the end
of route 15 you will go through an event where a character tells you to get the
Magic Stone. It is in route 27!

30) Take route 27 entering from the south side, as there will be an event
there. This can be accessed at the top of route 16, the same place you took
route 23. Remember, route 16 is the route that is straight up and down in the
middle of the overworld map. Again, teleport there or make the trek on foot.

So, once you’re there put on the Supersuit, this may be the only time you’ll
ever use it. You’ll get to an area full of glowing lava. Know that while you’re
wading/swimming in lava it drains away from your Supersuit, so don’t let the
suit fade away while you’re in the lava, otherwise you will die. Go the far
right of the lava pool and dive down to a screen below. Grab the Magic Stone!
2 more additional life bars, woohoo! Continue through the rest of the route,
leaving the lava from the right side until you exit. We’re doing this so that
you can teleport to this juncture again (it joins route 27, 37, and 29) in the
future if you haven’t been there already.

31) Teleport to route 15 again (same place you were told to get the magic
stone) and go down the second well. Fall to the bottom and go through the door
just to the right. Notice the water. Continue down this path until you reach a
point where you can use the magic stone. Go into your inventory screen to use
it. The gateway must be in full view for the Magic Stone to work. Go inside.

32) After that event, head back to where the water was at the bottom of the
pit. Use an Aqua Lung. Continue through until you get to what appears to be a
desert.

33) Head to the right until you see a building. Go through some dialogue and
leave. Continue to the right to see a familiar face. You now need to go see the
hermit on route 6 again. Exit to the right to ensure that this junction will be
available for teleportation in the future.

34) The easiest way to get where you need to go is to teleport to the very
bottom right juncture, it looks like it’s where the right angle is of a
triangle made by routes. From there, take route 6 where you will immediately
fall down to where the statue is that takes you on the path that eventually
leads to the hermit. If money isn’t a problem for you, use Power Boots, Jet
Packs, anything to make the journey there a little shorter. After talking with
the hermit, you’ll find out you need to go to route 40.

35) Teleport to the top of route 27 if you’re able to, or whatever’s the
northernmost point of your teleportation abilities (unless you’ve already been
near the top of the mountain, we don’t want to go there). On the overworld map,
near the base of the mountain in the top-center you’ll see a ring of water.
Route 40 is the short route that runs from the center of that water ring and up
just a bit. If that doesn’t make sense, take the following routes: 27 -> 37 ->
40.

If you’ve been following my walkthrough it’s likely you’ll have to travel
through route 37. In that case, an Aqua Lung will be needed. It’s a relatively
long route, but once you’re through you’re able to access 40!

* * * * * * * * * *
WARNING!
DO NOT GO DOWN THE RED-RIMMED WELL ON ROUTE 40 BEFORE GETTING THE SWORD! IT
LEADS DIRECTLY TO THE GATEWAY THAT MUST BE OPENED WITH THE MAGIC STONE WHICH
REQUIRES YOU TO DO A LOT OF BACKTRACKING TO GET BACK TO ROUTE 40!
* * * * * * * * * *

36) On route 40, ignore said red-rimmed well for now and notice the heart
that’s on the strange structure. It’s a bit tricky but get to where the heart’s
located. Try getting near the top and then kneel-walking towards the center.
Use the Magic Stone and the Sword of Apollo will appear. Grab it and enjoy a
sweet health upgrade and refill.

37) Head to route 39. Where’s that? Look at the overworld map and the desert
area near the top-right. It’s the path on the right side of the triangle formed
by those routes. BEFORE PROCEEDING, HAVE A JET PACK ON HAND!

Once you’re there, go to the top and down inside the well that is there. It’s
kind of hard to see, but it’s there. You’re now underground. Continue on
until...

ROUTE UNKNOWN BOSS STRATEGY
Upgrades won’t help you here. The Karate Power Hermit ability doesn’t work
either, normally rendering you invincible. But, if you’ve got enough Force
points, Energizer is your best resource.

As soon as you enter the door, go into your inventory and use THE SWORD OF
APOLLO. It will be your weapon for this boss.

First and foremost, avoid jumping into the boss, it causes a ton of damage to
you and it’s usually avoidable. The boss’s projectiles are what you have to
worry the most about. I find it best to actually stay below the boss and run
back and forth moderate lengths to weave under projectiles.

If you try and run away from one end to the other you usually end up getting
cornered, and the boss will stay right on your tail. Try to attack as often as
you can when the coast is clear, quickly jump as the boss is circling away in
the opposite direction. It takes a handful of clean hits to come out on top,
but due to the firepower of your opposition it is difficult. It IS possible to
destroy the boss’s projectiles, so if there’s one on its way to you and you’re
able to quickly fire towards it, do so.

If you’re really struggling with this, make sure you’re coming in with full
health, 3 Ultra Foods and lots of force points. It may take some grinding but
if you’ve got the resources to use Energizer 1-3 times, you should be able to
come out on top. Don’t give up!

38) Continue on down, destroying all of the stationary "objects" so that you
can continue. You’ll reach a point where you’ll need to jetpack up. If you have
no jetpack, you’ll either have to die or teleport if you can.

Once you exit and are back to normal scenery, it looks like you just came out
of the gold exchange building! But, you’re actually on route 38 which you can
see if you pause the game. Go up, not down, continue until you reach the exit.

39) Take route 30. If you got sidetracked and weren’t able to follow my
walkthrough through route 38 and then to route 30, your real goal is to get to
route 21. It is the short route just above route 40. If that doesn’t make
sense, open up your overworld map: near the top there is a ring of water at the
base of the mountain. Route 40 is the short one that runs from the center of
that ring and straight up. Route 21 is the short one just above that.

40) Take route 21. It’s an ideal route to use Barrier. Soon...

ROUTE 21 BOSS
*without upgrades*
You’ve been doing great if you’ve gotten this far! You can definitely take this
boss out. Use all of your classic dodging skills, take out projectiles before
they hit you, heal if needed, etc. It moves in a diamond pattern around the
screen.

*with upgrades*
With Thundershot, this is a piece of cake. Stay at the left side of the screen
and try to make sure every shot hits the boss. I took the boss out with exactly
one round of Thundershot ammo. Using a Supersuit or Barrier will absorb enemy
fire. If you really want to overkill - yes, Karate Power works here.

41) Take route 30.

42) Take route 42. There is actually another route 42, the other long path
running up to the top of the mountain. But, if you try and take it you’ll find
that you’ll reach a point you can no longer progress past - it’s a dead end.

YOU WILL NEED AT LEAST ONE JET PACK AND ONE THUNDERSHOT BEFORE PROCEEDING. I
RECOMMEND HAVING AT LEAST 2 OF EACH. IF YOU’VE GOT THE MONEY, PICK UP A COUPLE
OF BARRIERS AS WELL. OH, AND A MICRORECORDER! :D

There are lots of ledges here, and it’s a possibility that you may have trouble
scaling up or dealing with all of the cluttered enemies. If you want to use a
jet pack here, use it on the right edge of the screen, you won’t get hit until
perhaps the very top. An extra barrier paired with a Jet Pack makes it a cinch
as you can just bulldoze through.

Eventually, you’ll be at a screen where you can see scrolling clouds. Bang will
say, "Maybe there is no camp at the top." Use your jet pack to go up, up, and
away! You’ll soon see a door.

43) Welcome to route 43. You’re on the home stretch!

ROUTE 43 BOSS 1
*without upgrades*
Try to take cover behind the structure in the middle. Fire away. Pretty
standard stuff, but there are a lot of bullets headed your way. If you have an
extra Supersuit, it will soak up bullets, but don’t expect it to last long.
Barrier works great and is recommended but not totally necessary.

*with upgrades*
Again, Barrier is very helpful here, but not as much as Thundershot. But, DON’T
USE THUNDERSHOT IF YOU ONLY HAVE ONE LEFT! Blast away and the boss will go down
no problem. This is the last good time to use Karate Power, think Jackie Chan
and let the boss have it.

Once that’s over, if you have no Thundershot you can go down the well that’s in
this boss room and do what you need to do to get your hands on one.

Continue on farther up through the stage until...

ROUTE 43 BOSS 2
As far as I know, you need Thundershot for this battle. Without it, you’ll be
able to destroy the left orb but not the one on the right. The only ways to
destroy the one on the right is to either use Thundershot (recommended) or use
a Jet Pack or Power Boots to get you up high enough to damage it. Fortunately
they don’t have much health.

After they’re both destroyed, take out the gun in the middle. If all you have
left is your standard gun, climb up on the left and have at it from there.

Once that boss is destroyed, YOU MIGHT WANT TO USE THE MICRORECORDER TO GET A
PASSWORD. That’s because there are actually 2 endings to this game. Using the
microrecorder you can come back and see the other scenario. Once one of the
endings begins, you cannot return to normal gameplay without turning off/on or
resetting.

FYI, if you use a password, you’ll still have to defeat the boss you just
finished off.

Here’s some help for the ending sequence - if you want help before attempting
it, read ahead - otherwise proceed on your own. It is definitely possible to
figure it out without any outside assistance and I personally you suggest
trying it at least once. But, if you need help, here’s the deal:

At the very end of the game there is a puzzle involving 6 medallions. You have
5 tries to put each one in its correct slot. After each attempt, any medallions
that were put in the correct place will continue to stay there. The correct
order is random with each game.

The strategy is to try and not ever put a medallion in the same place more than
once, otherwise you will waste attempts that way.

I recommend beginning by putting them in the order they start - 1, 2, 3, 4, 5,
6. See what happens. More than likely at least one will be right. After that,
shift one position to the right and put them sequence again by continuing to
tap "A" for any that you have left to use. Repeat this process and you should
solve the puzzle. You can also use a more conscious and logical approach which
may prove to be more satisfying - that’s probably the better way to do it.

Try not to panic, you actually have a lot of time to work with even though it
appears to be ticking fast - almost a full minute. If you do not complete this
part successfully it will almost certainly because you used too many tries, not
because the time ran out.

If it doesn’t work out, no biggie. You’ll get to see the "bad ending" (which I
find entertaining) but you can go back and try again with a password. If you
didn’t get a password or the one you wrote down isn’t working - play through
Clash at Demonhead again! ^_^

I hope you enjoyed this game. I think anyone who gives it a shot won’t be
disappointed. I hope you found this guide helpful. Thank you.
