This guide is for The Magic of Scheherazade for the Nintendo Entertainment
System. Everything in the guide is laid out pretty straightforward in the
table of contents. As of right now, the prices listed in the FAQ are for the
Fighter class (I will eventually add the prices for the Magician and Saint
classes). If you have any questions, go check out my e-mail address in
the "Contact Me" section. And without further ado, I present to you my first

*  1. The Story  *
******************

Here's some of the text from the opening sequence of the game. It is a
surprisingly good translation for a game made in 1990 that came from a
virtually unknown Japanese game studio that rarely made games for us North
American gamers (and yes, that was a great run-on sentence):

"One day peaceful Arabia was attacked by the demons. The evil magician
Sabaron summoned them from the dark world for his evil desire. One brave
magician attempted to fight him. But he failed, and his sweetheart was taken
and all his memories erased. He was even thrown into a different time period.
Do you remember this? The young magician is you. Only you can save Arabia.
Please fight Sabaron again!"

So basically, you (Isfa) tried to kill Sabaron, but you got majorly pwned
and Sabaron gave you a bad case of amnesia. You wake up on the other side of
Arabia (the side with lots of grass, in case you are wondering) with a pocket
full of change and a couple of extra lives. Coronya the fairy comes over to
you and says that you must rescue your girlfriend Scheherazade, her three hot
princess sisters, her father, and then you have to save the world. Of course,
she doesn't tell you that will have to fight through five monster-filled
worlds just to get your woman back. Luckily, you will have plenty of allies
join you on your quest, including a pair of genies, a wooden pumpkin doll, a
talking robot, a drum-playing rain god, and a monkey thief. Oh joy!

When you turn on the game, you will have the choice of changing the text
speed (Slow, Normal, Fast). Always put the speed on Fast unless you want to
waste your time waiting for the text to crawl onto the screen. To start a new
game, choose "START". To enter a password from the last time you played,
chooose "CONTINUE". After you begin, you will be asked to enter a name with
one to four letters. After that, the story will begin to unfold. When Coronya
asks for your help, answer "YES" (duh!). You will then be able to select your
Arabian class (don't worry- you can change your class in the game anytime you
want). I recommend that you choose the Fighter class to begin with.

FIGHTER: Your sword is the strongest weapon. Useful for regular fighting.
SAINT: Your sword and rod are weak. Lets you obtain Pukin in Chapter 3.
MAGICIAN: Your rod is the strongest weapon. Mostly used for bosses.

You begin the game with 50 Rupias and 2 extra lives. After you choose your
class, you will take your first trip through the time door and Chapter 1 will
begin.....

After listening to the priest's rantings, you'll begin in the town of
Meshudo. There is not much to do here, but you should at least visit the shop
before you leave. Pick up two or three bread loaves and two or three magic
carpets (the first listed price is the normal price, and the second one is
the discounted price; always ask for the discount if more than one price is
listed in the guide. Be careful- if you ask for too many discounts on one
item, the shopkeeper will take 10 Rupias and throw you out of the store.) You
can also borrow and repay money at the shop, but you don't need to do this.
Just ignore this function. You might also want to get acquainted with the how
hotels and mosques work. Staying the night at a hotel refills your HP and MP.
At a mosque, you can pay 20 Rupias to bring an ally back to life, you can ask
for a password, or you can change your class to any of the following:

     Changing your class...
                 to SAINT: 40 Rupias
                 to FIGHTER: 60 Rupias
                 to MAGICIAN: 100 Rupias

     R. Seed- 100/50 Rupias

Done in Meshudo? Good. Now leave town and head north to Rudoria. On the
way, you'll encounter some monsters for the first time. Keep some distance
between yourself and them and fight them off with your sword or rod. Try to
get up to at least level 3 before you get to Rudoria. Once you get there, use
the magic of OPRIN in the first screen and collect the money she gives you.
Now head over to Jad's place and he'll tell you about the time door. After
you are done, pick up a Rupia seed from the shop and whatever else you might
need. Now head off to Poponoll.

The game tells you to go to the time door, but instead, we will be taking
a brief detour to Poponoll. Go talk to Dogos the crazy lady, and then if you
want to, you can go play the roulette game at the casino. The game itself is
pretty simple, so you should be able to figure it out. I always have the most
luck with the penguin or the fox. If you have the ability to use save states
(heh heh), then this would be a great place to exploit their powers. Also
note that playing during a solar eclipse greatly increases your chance of
winning. After you have enough Rupias to satisfy yourself, go south to the
time door on the dock.

You should be on the dock now. Use OPRIN and open up the passage to the
time door. Coronya will tell you some useful information, and then you will
be taking your first real trip through time. After you arrive, head towards
Rudoria. If there happens to be a solar eclipse at the moment, go ahead and
plant a seed at the magic field (use OPRIN and talk to the nice lady) before
you go into town. If not, use a magic carpet to come back to this spot when
there is a solar eclipse. Planting Rupia seeds will get you a lot of money.

M: Mooroon Maze

You will find the first Magic University in Rudoria. Go there first and
pass all the classes and collect the upgrades for the sword and the rod. If
you fail the guy's exam (which is impossible if you have any basic reading
ability), you can pay 10 Rupias to take it again. If you fail twice (which
really is impossible unless you purposefully try to do it), you can bribe the
pirate dude with 20 Rupias and he'll automatically pass you. Wheee! Once you
are done at the university, you might want to stop by the shop if you are
running low on carpets or bread. Now you can begin the long trek to the town
of Horen.

     R. Seed- 100/50 Rupias

This is the first place you can buy troopers. I don't recommend buying
them unless you have plenty of money to burn. Every trooper shop in the game
sells them for the same price (100 Rupias for 4 of them). In the menu-based
battles, as many as four troopers will fight for you at the start of the
battle. They will automatically attack the enemies unless you use a group
magic attack. They have weak defense, so you'll probably lose a few of them
in some of the tougher battles. You can carry a maximum of 99 troopers at a
time. After you've done what you need to do, go to the shop and pick up a map
(and a carpet if you don't have any). Then go talk to Faruk and he'll join
your party. With your new, much stronger team, head to the Mooroon Maze.

This maze is very simple, so this will be easy. Go down, then take the

Monecom from the old man and then use a magic carpet to fly back to Rudoria.

L: The northern door of this room will lock once you leave the room. If you
want to go back, you will need a key.
H: Use a horn against one of the two statues.
B: Boss

This first palace is extremely easy. Follow the path on the map to get to
the boss. Near the beginning, you'll encounter an enemy that continuously
spawns from a little "house" in a narrow room. You can destroy its house with
your sword. Be careful not to fall in the water traps that lie around and
about. When you get to the room with the two statues, you can either hit one
of them with a horn to open the door, or you can kill them with your sword.
When you enter the boss room, 8 eyes will appear. They will slowly open
and close. To kill them, shoot each one twice with your rod while they are
wide open. Be careful- the eyes will occasionally use a thunder attack that
takes away 10 HP per hit. After you defeat the eyes, you will be transported
to another room. In this room, there are 3 big eyes. They shoot fireballs at
you. Each eye takes about 10 hits from your rod. Get up close and kill one
eye at a time. Gilga also uses something called "Stone Magic", but apparently
this is blocked by that Mirror Shield Kebabu gave to you. After you kill all
those stupid eyes, Chapter 1 is over ~_~

"I'm the Princess Ashelato. Thank you very much, Isfa. Please save my
father and my little sisters, too." [Lightning flashes]
"Ha,ha,ha- I am the great magician Sabaron. You defeated Gilga. I admire
you, kid. But you still have to fight many demons before me. You can
challenge me, but you will die. If you don't stay alert, your sweetheart the
Princess Scheherazade will fall victim to the demon. Ha,ha,ha..."

KEBABU: Where are we going next?
FARUK: Many fearful enemies are waiting for us.
CORONYA: There it is! The Desert World Alalart.

The town of Malart is your starting location in this world. Go into town,
stock up on items, and talk to everyone. This would also be a good time to
get a password if you are playing on the NES. Your next stop will be the town
of Copanes, but you need to make a stop at the old man's place first and get
the magic of Raincom. You'll take damage in the desert, so use PAMPOO once in
a while. This is a good place to level up a few times, but don't waste your
time attacking the jumping scorpions- they take too long to kill (you have to
hit them multiple times before they go back underground). Focus on attacking
the other enemies you find around and about. Get to around level 7 before you
enter Copanes.

eclipse is over so you don't have to come back here later on. Plant a seed
and then backtrack to Alart. Buy a map at the shop, attend the classes at the
university, and then go to Lah's place. Coronya will mention something about
a translator. Talk to Lah (you obviously won't understand him), and then
leave town. Go back to the time door and travel forward through time.

will give you the Magic Boots and then tell you that Supica is locked up in
the maze. Go south and use OPRIN to enter the Alalart Maze. Go up one screen.
From here, follow the path until you get to the lower area of the "1" screen.
There will be a big path heading up. This path is filled with many invisible
holes. Get on the right side of the path, walk up, and stop when you are
about two-thirds of the way up the screen (you should be lined up with the
paths on the left and right side of the screen). Now walk over to the left
wall and walk up to screen "2". This screen has holes in the exact same
places, so do the same thing as before. Hug the right wall, walk up to where
the second set of paths leave the screen, walk over to the left wall, and go
up. Once you get past these two screens, follow the path on the map to
Supica. Fly back to Alart and then head back to the present.

B: Boss

You'll notice some lava on the floor when you enter the palace. This will
hurt you- jump over it. Follow the path until you get to "1". Turn right here
and go to "P". Use OPRIN and get Epin. Now go back to "1" and take the path
up. At "H", there are three statues. Hit one of them with a horn. If they
wake up, kill them with your sword.
When you enter Curly's room, there will be a red statue in front of you.
Use FLAMOL1 about 8 times and she will die. Curly might use Star Magic in
between your attacks, but it just hurts you a little bit. When this part is
over, Epin will summon Curly's second form with his whistle. There are 6 arms
and you must shoot each one about 5 times with your rod to kill it. Curly
will occasionally use Restoration to heal her arms, so you need to be quick.
This part is very hard if you aren't a Magician because your rod is very slow
and Curly moves very fast. If you have plenty of Mashroob, you could use
FLAMOL1 to kill her arms. When you finally beat those damn arms (or you go
insane), Chapter 2 is over >_<

"I'm the Princess Ishutal. Thank you very much, Isfa. Please save my
father and my little sisters."

GUN MECA: Hey! Let's hurry up!
   SUPICA: Hah, hah! I'm faster.

   FARUK: Well, don't say so.
EPIN: Take it easy. It's a little rest before the fight.

Make your way to the entrance of the Samalkand Maze and open it with

M: Mardul (Going left to right)
W: There is a water trap right when you enter the room. Don't fall in.
B: Boss

I recommend that you change your class to Magician (fly back to Kasimeel)
before you enter this palace. The floor in this palace is very slippery. Be
careful not to slide into the water. Also, you will meet the first mini-
bosses, Changarl and Mardul, in this palace. If they transform you, stay away
from the other enemies in the room, or you will be eaten and lose a life.
Yum! When you are in a "dragon" room, you must kill the dragon to unlock the
door. Choose a path (either one is good) and work your way over to "1". The
second half of the palace is fairly straightforward, so just keep going until
you get to the boss.
When you get to the boss room, Mustafa will make the Demon Troll appear.
Stand in front of the middle troll and keep shooting. Each time you hit him,
the Troll will use Thunder and you will lose 10 HP. After about 8 hits, you
will fight the next form of the Troll. Quickly shoot him with your rod. If he
uses Shrink and you don't have any amulets, you must attack him with magic.
If you don't have any Mashroob and you run out of magic, you must use the
Ring to escape (or just reset the game). After you kill this relatively easy
boss, Chapter 3 is over o_O

"I'm the Princess Roxanne. Isfa, please find my father and Scheherazade
and save them. Remember, Scheherazade is waiting for you all the time."

PUKIN: Oh, this is the beginning of a new adventure.
MUSTAFA: I need 100 more Rupias.
KEBABU: Oh, boy! You always talk about money. Stop it!
SUPICA: You always make a big deal out of everything.
GUN MECA: Maybe she can talk Sabaron to death.

   EPIN: Yes.

You're still a Magician, right? Good, you should stay that way for a

the first fork and then west at the crossroads. Go around the north side of
the water and get the 50 Rupias from the woman. Head east from here and take

Chapter 3- so pick either one you want. Take the stairs at "1" to get to "2".
There is a shop in this area, but please be very careful when you exit the
shop- the game places you right next to the lava. Go 2S, 2W, and 2N. Use
OPRIN and get the sword upgrade. Now go 2E, 2S, 2W, and take the stairs
at "3" to get to "4". Follow the path on the map and pick up the magic of
Moscom, then backtrack and head to the boss. If you are using an emulator,
save state before you go in. If you are playing on the NES, cross your
fingers and do your best.
Reach level 19 before you even attempt to fight the boss (and you
absolutely must be a Magician). Make sure you have full bread, mashroobs,
etc. Once you get to Salamander, stand in the center and mash the B button
like crazy. If he slows down, move over to the area he is at and shoot his
nose. After a certain period of time, he will go back into the fire to
partially heal, so Rainy will have to draw him out again. Now repeat this
whole process a couple more times. Unfortunately, Rainy will eventually run
out of MP, so he can only draw Salamander out of the fire field a limited
number of times. After you (hopefully) beat Salamander, who is by far the
hardest boss in the game, Chapter 4 is over @_@

"I am the King Feisal. Isfa, how can I thank you. I've been locked up by
Sabaron in such a place. Let's go back to the present time. Your sweetheart

You should have used a key or two in Yufla Palace, so pick up some at the
shop in Pao. Go talk to Kaji and he'll tell you to bring him the LEGEND
sword, and he'll give you the Armor of Light. The Armor of Light is needed to
defeat Sabaron, so you'll have to agree to his demands. The next town is
Chigris, but on your way there, buy plenty of troopers (located at "T" on the
map).

people here, so talk to everybody. Buy a map at the shop and stay a night at
the hotel, and then you can leave. Travel east and get the magic of Libcom

This palace looks very complex, but it is quite simple if you have a map
in front of you (which you do). Explore the area and level up a few times if
you want to. Gradually make your way over to "J". When you get to this
screen, you can walk through part of the wall on the bottom-left side of the
barrier. Once you pass through the wall, you can explore the rest of the
palace. Get down to "L", unlock the door, and then go north two screens and
get the LEGEND sword from Isfa. Go back to the time door and travel forward
in time.

Fly or walk back to Pao and talk to Kaji again. Leave the town and go one
screen south. Stand between the two trees and a bridge will appear. Cross the
bridge, use OPRIN, and get the Light Armor. Before you continue, you should
max out all of your items, buy plenty of troopers, and level up to 24 or 25.
The best level-up spot is just a bit northwest of Chigris. A blue demon
almost always spawns here, and with a few shots from the rod, he can be taken
out. Repeat this a couple hundred times until you are satisfied with your
level. Now head back to the Fire Maze and follow the same directions as
before, but this time, you will be stopping at the door to Sabaron's Palace.
When you are ready, go inside.

From the first dragon room, go 2N, 1E, and 3N. Unlock the door and get the
50 Rupias. Go 1W, 2N, and 1W. Fight Mardul and then go 1W. From here, go 1S,
1W, 1N, unlock the door, and talk to Sabaron. Enter the name "CORONYA" and he
will give you the ISFA rod. Go 2S, 1W, and fill up your MP and HP at the
magic star. Go 1E, 1N, 1E, 1N, 1E, 1S, 1W, 1S, 1W, 3S, 1E, 1S, 1E, 1S, 1W,
and fight Barzil. You're almost there. Go 1W, 2N, 1W, and enter the door.
This part of the boss room is a maze. Go up, right, up, left, and then
keep going up until you get to the pillar room. Listen to Scheherazade's
message, and then stand on the red moon. Shoot the pillar wall with your rod
(listen for a beep), and then stand on the white sun. Shoot the pillar wall
again (and again, listen for a beep). Now go stand on the star that appears
in the center of the room and shoot the wall when the star turns blue. The
room will blow up, and then you'll be in a fire field for a few seconds.
While you're here, make sure you equip ISFA and BOLTTOR3.
When Goragora appears, immediately use BOLTTOR3 and keep using it until
he "dies" (it will take about 5 hits of the magic). Now two things will start
spinning around the room. Shoot the dark one with your rod. Goragora will
reappear after some time has passed, so you'll need to do the BOLTTOR3 thing
again. Keep attacking the dark spinning thing until it dies. Congratulations!
You have finally beaten The Magic of Scheherazade ^_^

SCHEHERAZADE: Thank you, Isfa. You have defeated the great demon Goragora,
the pure evil. Arabia will be a dream world again. Now, let's go and see the
King Feisal.
   ASHELATO: Thank you, Isfa.
   ISHUTAL: You have saved Arabia.
ROXANNE: Thanks to you, we are all in this palace together.
SCHEHERAZADE: Isfa, thank you so much.
FEISAL: The pure evil Goragora has been destroyed and the power of the
justice Airosche has recovered. I thank you very much on behalf of the
Arabian people. By the way, Isfa, what will you do from now?
ISFA: As long as the mysterious world calls me, I continue my journey.
FEISAL: I see. You don't stay in a same place long.
   ASHELATO: You are leaving, Isfa.
   ISHUTAL: We will miss you.
   ROXANNE: Sob.......
SCHEHERAZADE: I, I'll... Ah..., Isfa, always remember there will be
someone waiting for you.
   KEBABU: Let's go, Isfa.
FARUK: I'll go with you, too.
GUN MECA: Yes, you were born for the adventure.
   SUPICA: Let's go, Isfa.
EPIN: Scheherazade, don't worry about Isfa. He always has us!
   PUKIN: Let's go, Isfa.
   MUSTAFA: Let's go, Isfa.
GUBIBI: Scheherazade, don't worry about Isfa. He always has us!
RAINY: If we work together, there's nothing to be scared of.
   HASSAN: Let's go, Isfa.
FEISAL: Everyone, stay at Isfa's side.
SCHEHERAZADE: Take care of yourself. Good bye for now, Isfa.
ISFA: Scheherazade, I'll be back for you someday!

"Your journey will be halted for a while. But, somewhere, in some era,
someone is waiting for your help. With your courage against evil and your
love to long for peace, you will continue to fight. Well, the time door will
open again soon......"

*  6. Items and Spells  *
*************************

The number next to each item represents how many you can hold, while the
number next to each spell tells how much MP it takes to use that form of
magic.

     ITEMS:

->BREAD (10): Automatically restores 50 HP when you lose all of your HP.
->MASHROOB (10): Automatically restores 50 MP when you lose all of your MP.
->CARPET (15): Lets you warp to other cities and escape from palaces and
mazes. Magic carpets cannot be used in during boss battles.
->R.SEED (5): Abbreviation for Rupia seed. You can plant this in a magic
field during an Alalart Solar Eclipse, or you can eat it. If you plant it, a
Rupia Tree will grow and you'll get lots of money. If you eat it, you will
become invisible for a short period of time.
->MAP (1): A map for the palaces and mazes of a world. You can view it by
pressing Select. There is one to be found in every world.
->KEY (9): Lets you open locked doors in palaces. It is used automatically.
->HORN (5): A Kibra's Horn. Shoot it at the stone statues in palaces.
->HAMMER (5): Causes stars to fall from the sky. It's HammerTime!
->RING (1): You automatically get this when Kebabu joins your party. It can
be used during boss battles only. When you use it, Kebabu will carry you to
the previous room of the palace.
->AMULET (9): When a boss or mini-boss uses a transformation magic, the
Amulet makes you change back to your normal form faster. It is used
automatically.

     SPELLS:

->OPRIN (5 MP): Causes a secret stairway to appear on some screens.
->PAMPOO (2 MP): Restores 10 HP.
->BOLTTOR1 (4 MP): A lightning bolt hits one enemy on-screen.
->BOLTTOR2 (15 MP): [Replaces BOLTTOR1]
->BOLTTOR3 (20 MP): [Replaces BOLTTOR2]
->DEFENEE (2 MP): Raises your defense temporarily.
->FLAMOL1 (20 MP): A wave of fire hits all enemies on-screen.
->FLAMOL2 (25 MP): [Replaces FLAMOL1]
->FLAMOL3 (30 MP): [Replaces FLAMOL2]
->CORBOCK (2 MP): Temporarily changes all enemies on-screen into tiny people.
->SHRINK (2 MP): [Replaces CORBOCK]
->CARABA (20 MP): [Replaces SHRINK]
->RAMIPAS (10 MP): You won't encounter enemies for a while.
->MARITA (4 MP): Restores 50 HP.
->MONECOM: Monecom can be used in any world during an Alalart Solar Eclipse,
but you can only use it once in the game. It gives you 999 Rupias and the
maximum amount of each item.
->RAINCOM: Raincom can be used in world 2 or 4 during an Alalart Solar
Eclipse, but once you use it you can never use it again. It stops you from
taking damage caused by the desert and makes grass grow over the sand. It
also fills up your HP and ends the current solar eclipse. Plus, it stops
random on-screen enemy encounters (but there are still random RPG battles).
->SPRICOM: Spricom can only be used in the future of world 3 during an
Alalart Solar Eclipse, and it can only be used once. It stops you from taking
damage in the snow and causes winter to change into spring. It also fills up
your HP and ends the current solar eclipse. Plus, it stops random on-screen
enemy encounters (but there are still random RPG battles).
->MOSCOM: Moscom can be used in world 4 or 5 during an Alalart Solar Eclipse.
It allows one-time instant access to a mosque, but this mosque can only be
used to change your class. But, this service is free. This is very useful if
you need to change your class before you fight Salamander.
->LIBCOM: Libcom can only be used in world 5 during an Alalart Solar Eclipse.
It brings all your allies back to life and fills everyone's HP and MP.

*********************************************
* 7. Magic Field and Magic Star Locations *
*********************************************

MAGIC FIELDS:
In The Magic of Scheherazade, there are secret areas called magic fields.
They are usually accessed by using the magic spell, OPRIN (not to be confused
with Oprah- Oprah! Oprah! Come in, Oprah!). During an Alalart Solar Eclipse,
you can plant a Rupia seed at these places. When you go back to the area in
the future, you can harvest the Rupias from the Rupia tree. Here are the
planting and harvesting magic field locations:

CHAPTER 1: Planting area is 1E of Rudoria (past).
Harvest area is 1E of Rudoria (present).
CHAPTER 2: Planting area is 1W and 5S of Alart (past).
Harvest area is 1W and 3S of Copanes (present).
CHAPTER 3: Planting area is 1S and 1W of Passora (present).
Harvest area is 1W of Kasimeel (future).
   CHAPTER 4: Planting area is 3W, 2N, 2E, 1N, and 1W of Farvil (past).
              Harvest area is 2W, 1N, 1E, 1N, and 1E of Chigris (present).
   CHAPTER 5: --None--

MAGIC STARS:
In this game, there are mysterious gold screens that have a picture of a
star in the center. I believe they are hexagrams. I will call these "Magic
Stars" (ohh, I'm getting imaginative now). If you stand on the star, your MP
is completely refilled. This is an excellent way to refill HP, too. Just use
PAMPOO or MARITA to fill up your HP, and then fill up your MP by stepping on
the star. You can fill your MP as many times as you want- just leave the
screen and go back to star.

   CHAPTER 1: --None--
CHAPTER 2: In the past, go 1E and 1N of the time door.
   CHAPTER 3: In the present, go 2S, 1W, 2S, 2W, 1S, 1W, and 1N of Kasimeel.
CHAPTER 4: In the past, go 1S, 2W, and 2N of Yufla Palace.
CHAPTER 5: In the present, you can find it in Sabaron's Palace.

***********************
*  8. Level-Up Chart  *
***********************

Throughout the game, whenever you kill an enemy in the overworld or in the
menu-based battles, you get experience points (EP). When you reach a certain
number, you level up. When you level up, your maximum health points (HP) and
maximum magic points (MP) go up, and you sometimes might learn a new magic
spell. Also, the power of your rod or sword may go up depending on what level
you are at. In each Chapter, there is a maximum level that you can reach.
Also, if you do not reach that maximum level before the end of the Chapter,
you will automatically level up after you beat the boss of that Chapter. Here
is a table that shows what you get when you level up:

LEVEL EP HP MP SPELL WEAPON INCREASE CHAPTER

   1 0 50 16 OPRIN 1
   2 20 58 20 PAMPOO 1
