I. The Object of the Game
===============================================================

Street Skate Session:

The object of the game is to maneuver your skateboarder through an obstacle
course in the time permitted. Colliding with obstacles or falling into openings
in the road cost you time and lives, if either run out, the game is over. As
the rounds progress, the course becomes longer and the starting lives are
fewer, thus adding to the challenge of survival.

Big Wave Encounter:

The object of the game is to ride the wave as long as you can, collecting
points and performing tricks until you either reach the pier or wipe-out. There
is no time limit, but you do have lives (similar to the Skate Session), and you
lose them if you crash into the wave or into any floating object that may cross
your path.

===============================================================

III. Street Skate Session
===============================================================

Introduction:

You control either the masked skateboarder (1P, select with B button) or the
shades-wearing skateboarder (2P, select with A button) and attempt to maneuver
them through an obstacle course, dodging projectiles such as baseballs and
frisbees, hopping over boxes in the road, and reaching the finish line within
one minute.

Scoring:

- Collect coins: You will see spinning coins of various colors on the ground.
Pick them up to gain points. If you pick up the same color coins in succession
(i.e. pick up a blue coin and then pick up another blue coin without picking up
other color coins in between) you get double points. The doubling continues
until you reach 8x the score (four same-color coins in a row), you pick up a
different color coin, you crash, or you reach the end of the course. The points
by color are as follows (the points by color are different depending on which
skateboarder you choose, the first color is for the masked skateboarder, the
second is for the shades-wearer):

Pink/Blue:   50 / 100 / 200 / 400
Blue/Green: 100 / 200 / 400 / 800
Red/Pink:   200 / 400 / 800 /1600
Green/Red:  300 / 600 /1200 /2400

- Perform tricks: You can perform various tricks to earn points. These include:

If you see an obstacle that looks like a closed gate with space underneath,
jump over it, letting your skateboard go under it, and gain 500 points.

There and certain moving objects that if you jump with your skateboard and,
when you're on your way back to the ground, your skateboard hits them, you gain
1000 points. These objects include remote control cars, turtles, and oil drums.

In front of all the openings in the ground on the course, you will see a launch
ramp. If you perform a jump with skateboard right when you are directly on the
ramp, you will fly high in the air, gaining 1000 points.

If you successfully reach the end of the course, you will receive 100 points
for each life remaining, and 10 points for each tenth of a second remaining on
the clock.

Gaining/Losing Lives:

In the beginning, the course is the shortest it will be and you have four
lives. As you navigate the course, you will gain a life approximately every six
seconds you go without crashing. When you get to eight lives, the timer will
freeze and you can keep going without the clock running. However, if you crash
and lose lives, the timer will resume after you start again.

As the rounds progress, the course gets longer and the number of lives you
begin with decreases. At round 12, the course is the longest and you only start
with one life, every round after that is the same.

Ways to crash include the following:

- Falling in an opening in the ground or off the far side of the course where
no railing exists. This costs you three lives and is the most costly penalty.

- Colliding with stationary objects, such as boxes on the road. This costs you
two lives.

- Colliding with moving objects, such as baseballs, frisbees, volleyballs, life
preservers, remote control cars, turtles, and oil drums. For the cars, turtles,
and oil drums, this is if you crash into them not jump on them (see Scoring
section). These cost you one or two lives, depending on the object.

Other things on the track to avoid:

- Sandy areas slow you down dramatically, jump with your skateboarder to avoid
them and keep your speed up.

- Oil slicks cause you to lose control for a few seconds, often causing you to
crash into an object. Dodge or jump over them.

- Sometimes the course may shrink from four lanes to three or even two lanes.
Make sure you're ready to move up or down quickly to stay on the course.

IV. Big Wave Encounter
===============================================================

Introduction:

You control either a cat wearing a suit (1P, select with B button) or a monkey
wearing shorts (2P, select with A button). This game mode is much less
controlled than the street skateboarders. These surfer dudes can hang ten as
long as you can keep them on the wave since there is no time limit. Given the
nature of the waves, you probably can't keep going forever, but the longer you
stay up, the more points you'll score. After you perform enough tricks, surf
all the way to the right and get to the pier to finish that wave and move on to
the next.

Scoring:

- Jump off the wave by holding up and B and you'll jump off the top of the wave
and land somewhere down the wave, gaining 300 points.

- Ride the wave by holding your position underneath the wave to gain 100 points
(500 points if you do it near the top of the wave).

- Occasionally, you'll see a banana in the water, grab it for 100 points.

- If you reach the pier, you gain 100 points per life remaining as well as a
1000 point bonus for reaching the pier.

(Note: I haven't found any other tricks, if there are more, please let me know.
The fact that I can't find anything for the A button to do leaves me curious.)

Gaining/Losing lives:

As in Street Skate Session, you start with four lives. You gain them by staying
on the wave without crashing. You lose them by crashing into the wave (either
by moving too far left, down, or up), or by colliding with other creatures
while on the wave (including birds, flying fish, or guys in inner tubes).

===============================================================
V. Wood and Water Rage
===============================================================

This mode allows you to get the best of both worlds. The odd rounds are Street
Skate Session stages, the even rounds are Big Wave Encounter stages. The rules
are the same as if you were playing them individually. Have fun!

===============================================================
VI. Strategies
===============================================================

Street Skate Session:

There are two different ways to approach the skateboarding: survival or point-
gathering. If you focus on survival, you can likely play forever. The pattern
of the course is easily recognizable, the only things that change are how high
or low the coins and moving obstacles are, and if you can get yourself into a
rhythm, the game becomes very easy.

However, even if you decide to gather as many points as you can in addition to
surviving, the game is not bad at all. You may run into trouble trying to catch
that elusive coin or missing a jump and landing in a hole in the road, but as
long as you don't miss too many times in a row, you'll be fine.

Big Wave Encounter:

Well, there's not much I can say about this mode, given my lack of mastery of
the waves. The only advice I can offer is to stay on the wave as long as
possible on your first go, then crash into the wave. On your second go, just
move to the right and hopefully you'll reach the pier.
