Not unless you reset the game so that it's back to normal difficulty again. You'll lose the level select, but that's the only way to do it.

statushard mode meaning when you beat the game most of the enemies turn into those shell guys that are annoying? well assuming you are playing on an NES as the guy above said ur best bet is to reset the system if you are playing on SNES through mario all-star you may just need to make a new file or delete it and remake it I imagine it won't be a big deal anyways.
if u can specify what system that would help if that doesn't solve ur problem.
