"Avengers...Assemble! Oh wait, you're kidnapped!"
Graphics: Captain American and the Avengers had very colorful graphics for it's time. The outdoor areas were beautifully shaded, and the indoor areas were done very well. There are times when you will notice that the same areas are reused over again, just with different colors, but that's how thing were done during the NES time. The cartridges couldn't handle 15 different level layouts. Still, the game was very nicely done, in terms of graphics. The character sprites were also, very detailed.
8/10
Game Play: Captain America has a few extra moves that Hawk-Eye doesn't have. Hawk-eye has the ability to shoot over the entire screen at just about any angle needed. Captain America...does not. However, he has this sheild thingy that he throws and comes back to him...I think that counts for something. I'm not sure. I prefered playing Hawk-Eye a lot more than I liked playing Captain America. Mind you it's been about 15 years since I played the game, but I remember it being fun :)
The enemies weren't overally difficult. Nothing that you couldn't handle. There weren't even any powerups in the game. The versus mode, more on that later, was very unbalanced. Still, for the time that the game came out, the game play worked.
6/10
Sound: I remember the sound to be very repetitive. There were very few sound effects, like "splsh" every time you touched water, a Tch! every time you jumped and landed, and so forth and so forth. The music was nothing worth remembering.
4/10
Replayability: I'm sure you might want to go back and play it for old time's sake, but otherwise, there is little replayability. There was a versus mode added to the game, where you can pick from Hawk-Eye and Captain America, along with a few bosses from the game. However, the bosses had the ability to fly, and on top of that, they could shoot straight down as they flew. This made the versus mode very unbalanced, as all you had to do is fly over your friend's character repeatedly, sending a shower of shots down at him while he could do very little do defend or come back for an attack. The versus sucked.
2/10
Rent/Buy
The game is old, you will probably never find it, except Ebay or something. If you are into playing old games, I would recommend picking the game up. There is no story to it basically, just pick a fighter and go for it. If you can find it for under 2 bucks, I would recommend buying Captain America and the Avengers.
Final score 6/10
