Super Mario Bros. 3
Review by LightAngelTora
"Mario and Luigi are back in a whole new adventure!"
Introduction-
This game easily takes the title as the best game in history. Super Mario Bros 3 is one of the best selling games of all-time and it is the fastest selling game that was not bundled with a system. Super Mario Bros 3 was released in the U.S. in 1990. It was the sequel to a game that was quite a disappointment. Super Mario Bros. 3 has found itself remade several times due to the fact that it is very popular. It was released on the Super Nintendo Entertainment System as one of the games on Super Mario All-Stars, and it was also released on the Game Boy Advance as Super Mario Advance 4: Super Mario Bros 3.
The Nintendo Entertainment System was the system that redefined the gaming industry. Super Mario Bros 3 was the game that redefined the fun level contained in games. Shigeru Miyamoto made sure that this game was one of the best games that he ever made. He definitely succeeded with this game.
Gameplay-
Super Mario Bros 3 has an unbeatable gaming system. Regardless of how many times games have attempted to become a better game than this, they always fail. Featuring everything it could to make itself a good game, Super Mario Bros 3 does what no other game has.
Super Mario Bros 3 had very simple controls that were very easy to get used to. All of the controls were responsive, which helped this game excel, due to the fact that you wouldn't lose because of bad controls. Super Mario Bros 3 did a very good job with every control in the game.
Super Mario Bros 3 had a precise difficulty level that should satisfy everyone. It is a challenging game, but it is in no way undefeatable. You should find that the main bosses of each world are not too easy. I can't stand it when you go through an entire level that is extremely hard, and then you just destroy the boss like it is nothing. This is the quality that made me dislike that original Legend of Zelda.
This game is extremely fun to play through. If you find yourself saying that this game is not fun, then Nintendo gaming is not for you. Super Mario Bros 3 cannot be matched on this fun level very many times. Only two games can be as fun as this game, but neither of them actually best out the fun level of this game. Super Mario Bros 3 is a definite improvement over the lacking Super Mario Bros 2. Introducing new and unique power-ups, you can do various things that will leave you with the feeling that this game is the best!
Overall Gameplay: 40/40
Story-
I will never understand why so many people say that Mario games have no story. Though they are sometimes goofy or strange, Mario games always have a story. Super Mario Bros 3 has a unique story that is, in my opinion, very good. The story is as follows.
The lands surrounding the Mushroom Kingdom have been at peace ever since Mario and Luigi defeated the evil King of the Koopas, Bowser. However, evil has rose near the land around the Mushroom Kingdom yet again. The seven children of the evil Bowser are tormenting the lands and are turning the kings into various creatures. Mario and Luigi must stop the seven evil Koopalings and save the kings. But is there more to this evil plan than meets the eye?
Anyways, it is an overall good story for a very good game. Super Mario Bros 3 delivers something great yet again.
Overall Story: 19/20
Graphics/Sound-
Super Mario Bros 3 capitalized in this category more than any other Nintendo Entertainment System game ever did. It is a beauty compared to the other games of it's time, even though it was on an eight megabyte system.
Super Mario Bros 3 has better graphics than every other game on the Nintendo Entertainment System. It has great foregrounds and background, and wonderful sprites for each character. All of the Koopalings were very well animated, and so was every other enemy in the game. Mario and Luigi's many different costumes also looked very well.
The sound of the majority of the Nintendo Entertainment System games was very well developed, excluding a few games. Super Mario Bros 3 was no exception to the fantastic sound that many games featured. The music to every level was fitting and can be considered classic. In fact, the most used music in this game was remixed and used as a secret music theme in Super Smash Bros Melee, a game that is widely considered the best game that the Nintendo Gamecube has to offer. Super Mario Bros 3 does a brilliant job with it's music.
Overall Graphics/Sound: 20/20
Play Time/Lasting Appeal-
This game features a very good system for Play Time. It is not an extremely long game in length, but it is fairly long. It is good if you want to sit down and play a game for three or more hours, depending on how good you are at each and every stage. If you don't have time for that, you can use one of the several warp whistles to speed up the process. In other words, this game can adjust to your schedule, no matter what it is.
Many people define lasting appeal as what the game has to offer after you beat it. I disagree. I define lasting appeal as how much time a game can keep you interested. It is actually hard to find yourself bored when playing this game. If you are looking to play a game and not get addicted to it, don't play this game. If you want a game that you will find fun and interesting no matter how many times you beat it, this game is for you. Super Mario Bros 3 has to have the best lasting appeal of any game I have ever played.
Overall Play Time/Lasting Appeal: 20/20
Overall Score-
Gameplay: 40/40
Story: 19/20
Graphics/Sound: 20/20
Play Time/Lasting Appeal: 20/20
Total Score: 99/100 (about 10/10)
There you have it, the best of the best. No matter what you do, make sure you own at least one version of this game. If you do not own a copy of this near perfect game, you are missing out on one of the best experiences you could ever have in the world of gaming. Super Mario Bros 3 is the best you can get, so don't pass it up.
