Captain Tsubasa II: Super Striker

Review by SantaBla

"The king of all nes games"

Short description of the game: This game is based on an anime named Captain Tsubasa which was popular in the 1980s and 1990s in latin america, europe and in asia. The game inspired players such as Zidane to play football/soccer. The game is a very good one for a Nintendo console. It is in fact the original version of tecmo soccer cup but this one is the second one, so it's much better than tecmo soccer cup with loads of improvements. This game is better than most popular nes games out there such as megaman and zelda. Toss those aside.

Story: There's nothing much to say here, you start playing in Sao Paulo with your best football player, Tsubasa. Then, you switch to national Japanese tournament, then international. I won't go into further details because it's a soccer rpg game.

Graphics: Undoubtedly, this game has the best graphics for nes I've ever seen in my entire life.

Music/Sound: Again, the music and sound excels. The sound effects are really nice for a nes and it has the best music I ever heard. I can say it's as good as the music in megaman 2 or maybe even better.

Gameplay: The gameplay is really simple. It might be complicated at first because everything is in Japanese, but after you take some time on it, it's easy as hell. For example. You press up and a button to dribble, right to shoot, left to pass, down to do combinations… However… the game can only be played one player… The best part of it are supershots which some characters can perform. The gameplay is truely unique. Where will you find a game again where RPG and football is combined?????

Replay Value: Since it takes really long to finish that game, you might not want to play that game again. You will have to lose many matches to level up your players.

Story 7/10
Graphics 10/10
Music/Sound 10/10
Gameplay 10/10
Replay Value: 7/10
Overall: 10/10 The king of all nes games.

Pros: Nice graphics, nice gameplay, nice music

Cons: Story is not great and the difficulty of the game is very high and you might not be playing it again when you finish it.

Conclusion: I'm really impressed with that game and I have first played it when I was four. I still play it from time to time. I suggest to everyone to try this game not the tecmo soccer cup one. Get a nes emulator, grab the rom and start playing. Even though you never watched the anime, the game stands alone on itself, (of course, tecmo is a genius) therefore, anyone can enjoy it!!!
The net have very few screenshots for this game because it was never released outside of Japan. Only in the form of tecmo soccer cup which is rubbish.

I think this is the best nes game I ever played! I'll exchange FF and megaman for that game because it's the most brilliant thing I ever saw on nes. The sad truth is that this game IS REALLY UNKNOWN to loads of people. Loads of people talk about ff, megaman, super mario, zelda on nes, but never this one!! This game beats all of them. A true masterpiece.
