Ultima: Exodus

"This game is FAR from Ultimate..."

Ultima: Exodus is a very terrible game, quite possibly the worst that I have ever played. I see no redeeming qualities to this game whatsoever, other than the fact it is part of a series that has been described by many to be legendary in status. However, I see nothing legendary about this game. In fact, this is one of the worst games I have ever played, if not the worst. I am sure the other Ultima series games are good (I have even played a few), but it is safe to say that this is a terrible, terrible game.

Not only is this a terrible game, it also has a lot of terrible points. Let me run down the list of categories real quick and let you see why I hate this game as much as I do.

Storyline (0.8/10): This has got to be the worst storyline I have ever seen in a role playing game, as it is horribly described, and the character development is the worst I have ever seen. I really did not like the storyline in this game much at all.

Graphics (1.2/10): The graphics in the game are pretty horrible, to say the least. I really did not like the graphics in the game much at all, because of the simple fact that they were rather plain and basic. Adding to the misery of the game is the world map graphics, which look like absolute crap.

Music and Sound Effects (0.3/10): The music and sound effects in the game are rather terrible, as I did not like the music in the game at all. The music was really crappy, especially the battle theme of the game. I think it is safe to say that the battle theme in the game is the worst ever. Sound effects in the game are rather crappy, as well, and that’s that.

Gameplay and Control (0.7/10): The battle system in this game is reminiscent of a strategy game rather than a role playing game. You move around the characters on a grid, and you have to aim the enemies at a certain point. I really got fed up with the battle system rather quickly. Exploring through the dungeons was a hassle, as well. The control in the game absolutely sucked, and I got fed up with the control rather quickly.

Replay Value (Below Average): I got fed up with this game rather quickly, as the replay value suffered a lot. I did not want to play this game much at all, after a while. And that was absolute crap as well, because I wanted to get into this game, but I just couldn’t.

Challenge (Above Average): This is one of the most challenging games ever made, simply because the battle system is so horrible, and you will never really figure out how to play the game so quickly. This is a very challenging game, and I did not like the challenge level of the game, at all.

Overall (0.6/10): This is one of the worst NES games I have ever played, and it is one of the worst role playing games yet. Stay away from this game, because it is a big pile of crap.
