Pac-Land
Review by FamicomGuy
"Pac-Man's first side scroller."
Pac-Land was pac-man's first action/adventure game, released in arcade format in 1984, but for some reason it was ported to the Famicom, and many other systems but the NES. I bought a copy off an internet site for twenty some dollars and it was well worth it. you play as the world famous Pac-Man, going on various ''trips'' through towns, forests, mountains, deserts, and may other types of terrain. This game will definitly keep you entertained for hours at a time.
Story:6/10 As I have read, several fairies wondered off and got lost. They stumbled upon pac-man and asked him to take them back to Fairy Land. In return for him doing that, they present him with a pair of flying shoes so he can get home fast and save the next fairy. ( I think ) Some what more original than save the princess from the bad guy.
Graphics:7/10 the graphics in this game are well done cosidering it is an early Famicom game (1985). The background graphics are done extremely well, for example, ALL levels have colorful, different backgrounds not just your average black backgrounds with a bush here and there. the characters ar well done to; pac-man and the ghosts all look like they should, and the ghosts are each riding in their own little planes,UFO's, and even sometimes Pogo-Sticks.
Sound:7/10 The music in this game just has something about it that makes it good. The game only has three songs, but each one is nicely done. The songs tend to repeat every so often, but that isnt a problem. The sound effects are OK to, but can get annoying when you have those stupid UFO's on the screen.
Gameplay:9/10 This game is very fun and challenging. The controls are really the only tricky part... the reason I say this is because the controls are BACKWARDS! I dont know why this is... mabye it was the way the arcade version was set up? Anyway, you jump using the UP, DOWN, LEFT and RIGHT buttons,( by the way, it doesn't matter which one you use, theyall make him jump up) while A and B make him go left or right. Weird, huh? After you get used to the controls, this game gets A LOT easier. Playing it is just plain fun, as each trip introduces new and interesting things.
Replay Value:9/10 It will be a long time before you beat this game (I havent even gotten past level 10, and there are thirty levels!) Even if you do beat it, you'll come back just to find the hidden hats and flowers.
Overall: 8/10 This is one great Famicom game. If you have a Famicom or a Famicom to NES converter, go out and find this game. It is worth every bit of twenty dollars.
