Tiny Toon Adventures
Review by Videogamer
"Not a bad platformer from Konami"
I'm sure most of you have heard of the cartoon: Tiny Toon Adventures on the Kids WB, right. Well, this game came out in the early 90's when the NES was still popular and the show was airing weekday afternoons on Fox (at least I think it was Fox) so they just had to make a game based on it. It's mainly aimed at younger kids and isn't too challenging.
Story 5 out of 10
The story is that Montana Max has captured Buster's girlfriend (sort of) Babs and it's up to him to rescue her. This is pretty much a way of modernizing the basic save the princess plot, but it's still not very original.
Graphics: 9 out of 10
The graphics in this game are very good. Every character looks just like the one from the show and the use of color is very well done. There is also very little slowdown, overall a very good job by Konami.
Play control: 8 out of 10
Overall, the play control is tight and responsive. There are some minor problems though. When you use the spin attack as Dizzy, you can't jump or stop if you come upon a pit. Also, the attack that alll the characters can do underwater is very difficult to aim and often misses, so I took 2 pionts off for that.
Game play: 7 out of 10
The gameplay is pretty much basic platform action. You always have two characters avialable and can switch them if you find a star ball. You always have Buster and can choose either Plucky, Dizzy, or Furball at the beginning of each level and each of them has their special abilities. Plucky can glide in the air and swim very well. Dizzy can use his spin attack. Furball canclimb walls, and buster has no special ability at all.
Game challenge: 5 out of 10
This game is not very challenging to the experienced gamer, but will probably challenge younger players that this game is aimed at.
Replay value: 6 out of 10
I play this game again once or twice a year, but there isn't much to do except play the game again with diffferent characters.
Overall: 7 out of 10
This isn't a bad effort from Konami, but being aimed at younger gamers, it won't challenge experienced gamers for very long. You can play the game over a few times with the different characters so that kept me from giving this game a lower score, but it's still mostly a beginner's game.
