Review by Dane Martin

"Looking for a simple NES platformer? Felix has you covered!"

I have really fond memories of this game. I owned it when I was five years old or so, and played it frequently. After replaying it at my current age, it wasn't nearly as fun and addicting as it was those few years ago, but I had a warm feeling for this game that couldn't really make me dislike it. It's simple, rather short, and not very innovative at all, but I had so much fun with it as a five year old that I couldn't simply call it your everyday side-scroller, and end the review.

STORY
Basically, you must save your girlfriend. Nothing to it; nothing wrong with that. This is a mere NES platformer, where story means nothing. Therefore, I didn't bother to score it. N/A

GAMEPLAY
Playing as Felix the Cat, you must find your way through nine different worlds, with three stages in each. Using your magic bag of tricks, several power ups are available. Although these aren't necessary to complete particular stages, they help, and are a lot of fun to use. Sure, the concept is simple, but it's a fun game, apparently aimed towards children. Although some of the Adventure Island games, designed by the same developer (Hudson Soft), are a bit more well-designed than this game, the clever level design really adds to the game's fun factor. 8/10

GRAPHICS
The game's graphics are surprisingly decent! The backgrounds are colorful, and fit the game's mood well. Felix, as well as the enemies, looks good, and doesn't clash with the backgrounds. Although the enemies aren't as well-rendered as Felix, they're still pretty nice. 7/10

SOUND
The background music is typical NES fare, and has a very Adventure Island-sounding style. That's not a bad thing, though, as it's pretty catchy. The sound effects are another story, though... I can't stand them, for some reason. They have a rather irritating ''beep, boop'' sound to them that really got to me about halfway through the game. The music makes up for the sound effects, though, I suppose. 7/10

REPLAY VALUE
This an NES platformer, so naturally, it doesn't have much replay value. Unless you really, really enjoy replaying the levels, there's not really much of anything to do once the game's completed. I suppose that's fine, though, since the game is aimed towards children, anyway. Chances are the game is challenging enough for its intended audience that they probably wouldn't finish it, thus making replay value pretty much non-existent. 4/10

IN CONCLUSION...
This game is fun. It's not the best game ever, not by a long shot, but it's fun to play, and that's what I like to base my video games on. Pick this up if you see it in a discount bin or something, but don't go out of your way to get your hands on a copy. 7/10
