Advanced Dungeons & Dragons: Heroes of the Lance

Review by Arch Sorcerer

"*sarcasm*This is the best game in the universe*sarcasm*"

During the Nintendo era terrible games were released. Why Nintendo allowed this is beyond me. Games like this were probably made for money and rushed. Being in the Dungeons and Dragons franchise fans would by it allow though I've never seen it in a store when I was young. I played this game on a ROM to see how bad it was.

The game itself is based of the Dragonlance saga of books. There are about 4 different versions of this game that I have heard about. One is for Nintendo the one I am reviewing. The other three are for SMS(Best Version), MSX, and AMIGA. So steer clear of this one and play the SMS one.

The main problem with this game was it horrid control. When you press a button the hero your being wouldn't respond correctly. It's like you have no power over what they do. Even Atari games have better control than this. With this horrid control the game sank from a possible 6 to a very low 1.

The graphics were also god awful most of the area was grey making the dungeon ridiculously dull. The heroes were also badly made. The first character is just a blob of brown, flesh and yellow. The enemies look hideous as well dumb looking demons and naked dwarfs scare me by them looking stupid nothing else.

The gameplay is probably worse than anything I have ever seen. Due to the lack of control you can hardly play the game at all. You will usually get your ass kicked by the enemies quickly. If you don't fall into a pit or get killed by a trap first. If the control wasn't so bad the game would have been better.

The sound was god awful as well. It sounds really bad like it is grating on your ears. The music is placed in a loop and you hear the same music over and over again. I think there is only 2 different song. The sound effect are pretty crappy as well

If your thinking about playing this monstrosity please don't. It will probably save your eyes, ears, and sanity if you don't. If you see a cartridge at a game store. Do all that you can to destroy it. It is for the good of mankind.

Arch Sorcerers Table of Divinity
Control 1/10 Worst control ever
Graphics 3/10 Too much gray
Gameplay 1/10 Mainly because of the control
Sound 4/10 No originality what so ever
Difficulty-Frustrating
