Captain Planet and the Planeteers
Review by Skarm
"Quickly! Save the planet!"
Captain Planet, a TV show in the 90's became popular enough to have its own game. First thing I thought was, ''OH NO!''. Well, after seeing the back of the box one day at a video store my reaction was somewhat knocked around. The game had decent graphics. Well, I picked it up one day, for like 5 bucks at a yard sale. I took it home and my reaction changed again.
The music, if you can call it music, was HORRIBLE. HORRIBLE Little beeps, boops and some weird other things make your ear drums wants to burst. So within the first half hour I had shut off the sound on my TV so my mind wouldn't be bouncing around.
Music 0/5
Next thing I thought about was the graphics. Hey, they weren't bad, and there were even some cool scenes like when Captain Planet is summoned. He was animated very well, and overall, the graphics were pretty good for a NES game.
Graphics 4/5
Then very quickly I realized that this game is VERY difficult. It certainly gave me a great challenge. Heck, I'm not even done it yet. I'd have to say the replay value is rather low but since it gives out passcodes for the completion of every level, you can play your favorites when you want, which is a plus.
Difficulty 5/5
The play control is nice and smooth, responsive and such. Its good considering how the action in this game goes, with lots of dodging of slime and enemy ships etc. However, the thing I noticed right away was that the controls barely respond when you try and input passwords. Maybe this was my controller, but everything else went fine. Bit of annoyance there.
Play Control 3/5
However, I wouldn't play this game too much, as its likely for it to fry your brain or something. This game isn't worth your money new, however NES games are rarely new anymore, but if you liked the Captain Planet TV Show, this game might be for you, since its a chance to play as Captain Planet and save the planet for yourself ;). If you didn't like the show, and think music means alot about the game, don't even think about it. This game is basically a special interest game, but remember, if the sound is getting to you, just turn off the sound, its peace to your ears.
So overall, I'd give this a 7/10, it's main drawback is the music of course, but its an extreme challenge even for better than average gamers like myself.
