"A very solid NES platformer"

Looking for a certain Mario-esc game thats not on the beaten path? Felix the Cat has everything you're looking for. I first got a hold of this game when I was 6 trying to find something to play at Blockbuster. About a year later when they started selling all of their Nintendo games I went and found a copy of it and never regretted it. This game is far from perfect, but still worth hours of play.

CONTROLS: 8/10
The controls in this game are very good. Stable and lacking any goofs or tricks that might fool you. Felix jumps fairly high and the weapons is very precise. The water/air environments hnadle just lik a Maio game, so getting used to them shouldn't be difficult at all.

AUDIO: 7/10
The sounds in this game aen't something to gawk at, however they do they're job well. The sounds effects are pretty accurate as well. jumping on a spring sounds like it should and honking your horn sounds like a real car. Nothing outstanding but surely nothing to complain about. Then there's the music. I think the music is a little better then the sound. Most of the songs are catchy, and all of the songs fit the mood of the level being played. If you're in a dark, depressing, underwater level then the music exeplifies that. Happy tropical island levels have happy tropical island music with them. The music in the game is good.

STORY: 4/10
The story in Felix is almost non-existant and completely irrelevant. This is the games real low point. From the beginning you know that the Proffesor (Felix's arch enemy) has catnapped Kitty (Felix's girl) and wants Felix's Magis Bag as ransom. Of course Felix doesn't want to give up the bag, so he goes on a quest to save Kitty. Classic ''hero saves damzel in destress from evil guy'' story line. The few quotes the Proffesor gives every few worlds doesn't do anything to promote the soryline.

GAMEPLAY: 9/10
This is where the game really shines. Basically a complete rip off of Mario, the game pulls it off well. Defeating enemies is done solely by the works of the magic bag. Basic levels are very solid, but it's the different variety of levels that boosts the gameplay. Felix does everything from riding a dolphin to flying a space-ship. The longevity of the magic bag created gizmo you control is based off a number of hearts you have which is replenished by milk bottles recieved by collecting Felix heads. If you run out of hearts then you loose the gizmo, ultimatley going down to the orginal magic bag as your only weapon of defense. There are certain big bags hidden around all the levels which contain warps and numerous Felix heads. The bosses are on the easy side, as is the entire game, but the last boss may give you a little trouble.

BUY OR RENT: Buy
I really dont think you'll ever find a copy of but if you do spare the extra 50 cents to buy it. It will be well worth the money.
