Tag Team Wrestling
Review by Captain J Whoosh
"It isn't that bad, if you remember how old it is."
Yeah look at the other reviews, scores of 1 and 2 I believe. That isn't saying much for this game is it? Well I thought I might as well try to give it SOME saving grace before all of the cartridges are burned. Now, yes it is a wrestling game and yes it is old and yes there are only two teams but remember, a game boils down to one thing... gameplay. Gameplay is what makes all NES games shine and this one is not an exception. So read on before you judge this game too harshly.
STORY: N/A
You're a wrestler. You beat up another wrestler. This isn't a Lunar folks, there isn't any story.
GRAPHICS: 5/10
Well, of course if you compare them to today's high tech games, they blow. But if you compare them to the games they were up against when it used to be on the shelf of K-Mart, then you'll realize that they're only a little below average. The ring is NOT bright green as another review said but yes, it is green. A regular shade of green. It isn't that ugly. You can tell the wrestlers apart easy and the move's look ok. (except for the backdrop and shoulder block.) So there's no eye candy but the graphics are good enough for me so they should be good enough for you.
SOUND: 4/10
Kind of sucks in this area too. The bell sounds move like some one tapping a window with a pencil and the crowd sounds like Godzilla. The grunts and slams however, are done nicely. It sounds like you're hitting the mat (or the concrete) and your little guy go's ''Ugh'' or whatever. It's simple and it works.... except for the bell.
GAMEPLAY: 8/10
Yep... an 8. After those other two scores, you really wouldn't expect me to put down an 8 would you? Well, like I said before, NES games are made by their gameplay and this game is no exception. You hit ''A'' and your little dude throws a punch. If he connects, you have about 4.5 seconds to perform one of 6 moves. You pick what move you want by pressing ''B'' and then hitting ''A''. ''A'' also pins the guy when you want to. The controls are very simple, easy to learn, and easy to kick the crap out of the Strong Bads with. So this really is the shining point of the game. Also, when you see the bell outside the ring, simply hit ''A'' to pick it up and clobber a Strong Bad with it.
OVERALL: 6/10
Most people are going to think I'm nuts and I might even get some hate mail but that's the price you pay for being honest and an NES fanatic. This game is simple and fun but the replay value stinks. I like to play it to pass time or just to remember the good old days of two button games. Do yourself a favor and give this game a chance. It isn't bad at all, but just don't think that you're getting a classic either.
Final Word: You've got to love the names Ricky Fighters and Strong Bads.
