"Well..."
Intro
Ok, Felix the Cat is probably one of those games meant more for younger generations...at least that's the feeling I get from the story. I didn't spend too much time on it because it's one of those games that if I play too long I start to get bored.
Gameplay 7-10. It's your average NES Platformer....starring a cat. Well, obviously, since it's called Felix the Cat. Think of it as kinda Mario Bros. with a cat as the main hero and another cat as the captured damsel.
Control ? Well, apart from the D-pad, there's just A and B for jumping and firing weapons. As far as it goes it seems to work, but since I wasn't entirely sure what I was supposed to be doing, I decided not to give a definite score. The next category's quite another matter though.
Audio 6-10. The music's got kinda an upbeat feel to it like a lot of adventure games. The intro theme sounds kinda jazzy, and that's not really my thing. There seem to be songs for everything, and the SFX are average. When you jump and fire your weapon it sounds almost like Felix's meowing. Well, he's a cat after all, so meowing would not be out of character for him. Granted, it's just a NES meow and nothing to get excited about since we've all heard cats meow at least once, but it's a meow nonetheless. Then there's the usual die sound and game over sound, and I'd imagine an ending song as well, though from what I've heard the ending's nothing special. I won't spoil it though. You'll just have to find out yourself. Now, let's look at...
The story is just your average save the lady from the villain. Kitty Cat (how very original), has been kidnapped by the Professor (at least it's better than Mad Mizer). The evil Professor demands that Felix give him the Bag of Tricks if he ever wants to see his girlfriend alive again. Felix has said Bag of Tricks of course, but it's gonna be a cold day somewhere pretty damn hot before he gives in without a fight! Felix must therefore fight his way through....I forgot how many stages, until he reaches his final confrontation with the Professor and the rescue (hopefully anyways), of his girlfriend Kitty. I still think that's so very original, giving a cat equivalent of a princess the name Kitty. You can just sense the sarcasm. At least the villain got a better name than the one in Castlequest. Professor isn't a whole lot better than Mad Mizer, but it is a definite improvement.
Challenge 10-10. It seems to me that dying is fairly easy to do in this game. Of course you can use a Game Genie and give Felix nine lives...you know, that saying about a cat having nine lives? Hahahahahahaha!!!! Anyway, this game might be fairly easy to some of you and less so for others. It all depends on you. Give it a try. Though not great by any means, it's not a horrible piece of crap like...say...Hydlide or Fist of the North Star.
