Review by Ice Water

"This game is almost like the Arcade, heck, maybe even better!"

After buying this game in the hopes of it being as good as the Arcade version: it succeeded. The touch of Mario Bros. was brought to the NES at last, and even better because you didn't have to waste a quarter for your game each time!!

Gameplay (9/10)

Such a simple, yet hard, game! You go around knocking little turtle dudes/crab dudes/fly dudes off their feet, then kick their butts into the filthy sewer water below to make sure they don't go around and sneak up peoples plumbing! You also get a POW! block that allows you to make an earthquake to knock every enemy on the screen over! But be warned because if you hit the block under a fallen enemy, it gets back up! Sounds simple right? It is, but sometimes it gets really challenging when you have mysterious green and red fireballs flying after you, and little ice dudes freezing the ground that you are trying to walk on. There are also challenging bonus games that involve you grabbing coins out of mid-air so you can score the only extra life you can get in the game. If you could get more lives, that would make this a bit easier.

Controls

The controls are very easy to use! Just remember to use the left and right direction keys to be able to move about and the A button to jump! Unfortunately, in the NES, the jumping ability had to be timed in sync with the control. That means that you can't move around into another direction when you jumped, so if a fire ball lands under your feet while you are in the air then you are dead. Quite annoying after a while, but then again, it DOES follow the arcade's controls perfectly!

Music (3/10)

What music? You get two lousy clips then that's it, although they were pretty good for a first generation NES game.

Sound (5/10)

Same thing here. The only sounds were for the enemies coming out of the pipes, the coins coming out, the defeat sound, and the revive sound. That was it. Not much on sound for this game.

Replay (9/10)

There is no way to beat this game at all, so the fun factor kicks in! This game is REALLY fun! You can play all night to get your score up, then take a picture because the score won't keep unfortunately...Bring a friend for double fun!

Buy or rent?

Unless you have a time machine to go back to when NES games were new and in Blockbuster, you are going to have to buy it on Ebay. I got it for 10 bucks, so it might be a little expensive. Good luck getting a copy of this fun game!
