Tecmo Super Bowl
Review by Jarsfan1997
"Red 44, Blue 32! This game shows why Tecmo is a big player."
Tecmo Super Bowl is the younger brother of the original Tecmo Bowl. Honestly I can say that even after all this time, it remains my favorite football game of all time.
Graphics 9/10
The sprites are well animated, and are even the color they were supposed to be! The first Tecmo had a problem at times distinguishing between black and white players. The colors of the teams are great (because of the NFL license) and the fans and field look good as well. The only setback? The characters are twice as small as they were in the previous game. I believe this to be due to slowdown factors in the NES's hardware. Overall the graphics are top notch.
Sound 8/10
The music and sound effects in this game fit the game perfectly. Gone is the loud ''hut!hut!hut!'' of the first game, but it is replaced by a softer, easier sounding call. The announcer's Touchdown sounds almost the same as the first, which isn't a bad thing. Tecmo did a great job.
Control 10/10
There are 8 plays! Count it 8! The first only had four plays to choose from, so it was always easy to bust your buddies chops. The control is precise, which you need in this game. One false move could result in a tackle or sack, or even worse an interception for a touchdown. Timing is the law of this game, and the control waits as you wait, no longer, no less. Kudos to Tecmo for the great control of this game.
Replay value 10/10
As long as you have human opponents you will never tire of this game. It is simple to set up a season with some buddies and sit back and watch as each person controls their respective teams in quest for the Lombardi Trophy. The game is so well versed in each teams' abilities, so you will never tire of playing with any of the teams. The CPU can be a good opponent at times, although the AI isn't that great at times. I promise you won't get tired of this great game.
Overall 10/10
Tecmo has proved from even the time of this game's release that they have what it takes to be on top. Tecmo Super Bowl will never disappoint fans of nostalgic football. The glory days of the New York Giants, and the beginning of the Dallas dynasty. This is a great trip down the hallowed halls of NES fame, and it is one that I will never forget.
