The Addams Family: Pugsley's Scavenger Hunt
Review by Hanyousama
"SNES' Addams Family for the NES, anybody?"
In a last ditch attempt, Ocean, on the verge of dying, desperately makes Pugsley's Scavenger Hunt, which came out for both the Super NES and the NES. This one is based more on the Saturday Morning (used to be on Saturdays) cartoon show, which I pretty much liked in terms of artsyle. A very fitting cartoon for everybody's favorite obscure family. But rather than making a game from scratch, they 8-bit graphic'ed the Super NES version of the Addams Family, reduce the colors, and replace all the treasures you collect, and call it ''Pugsley's Scavenger Hunt.''
If you've played the SNES version of the Addams Family, then this game is exactly the same. EXACTLY the same... except you're Pugsley instead of Gomez. I suppose that the game provided me with some decent entertainment... for a while. But I knew that this game was exactly the same as the SNES version, so I didn't enjoy it for too long.
The story is, someone has abducted all of the Addams but Pugsley, and it's up to the doofus to save them, while collecting sweets, one ups, shoes, and other goodies... um, yeah.
[-Graphics-][5]
The graphics are just plain bland. There are no backgrounds in the various areas within the game. It's all just one plain color. There's not much animation either... and although it's all colorful, that's not enough to really save this game's graphics.
[-Sound-][1]
Sound? What sound? Other than the sound effects, there's NO music whatsoever in the game... except for the title screen, when you die, when you beat a boss, and a couple others for a screen after you beat the boss and the game's ending... but they also sound really horrible! That is creepy.
[-Control-][7]
The control is responsive and everything, but moving Pugsley around can be like moving on ice. You can tap the d-pad and stuff and he'll move an inch or so, but if you hold it down and then come to a stop he skids a bit. But the jumping, at times, is difficult to control... and I couldn't have a whole lot of fun with it. But it's good control nonetheless.
[-Gameplay-][4]
Um, well... you do EXACTLY what you do in the Super NES' version of the Addams Family... jump on enemies to kill them. Pick up tons of sweets to increase not only your lives, but to replinish your life. Win additional health by beating bosses. Get killed by annoying enemies... um. That's not a whole lot of fun to me.
[-Replay Value-][4]
Well, if you find all the tedious gameplay and platform hopping enjoyable, then this game isn't the most horrible. But still... I mean... come on... Ocean could have just made it an entirely different game than base it exactly like the SNES Addams Family...
-BOTTOM LINE-
If you are a die-hard Addamsaniac, then get Pugsley's Scavenger Hunt... but I'd much rather prefer the SNES verion, as it seems to be more original than this rip-off of one of Ocean's own games! Shame on you, Ocean...who did you think you were fooling?
