"In my mind, this is Rush N' Attack 2"

Contra was the game that brought the famous Konami code into the limelight. It also was a fine action shooter that featured a non-stop enemy assault. As far as two-player action games go, Contra was a very good example of how they should be done. Some levels were side scrolling while others were a kind of 3-D thing that added some variety to the game.
CONTRArary (haha) to popular belief, this game is not that hard and can be beat without the 30 life code. The special weapons are cool ( my fav=the Spreader) and overall it is a pretty good looking game.

Graphics=8.7 Nice Konami style graphics. Your little commando guys are well animated and despite rather plain looking enemies, is still a good looking game. This game is an improved version of Rush N Attack.

Sound=7.0 Nothing really great, but gets the job done. Konami has better sounding games, but Contra doesn't have BAD music.

Play control=8.5 Smooth in the side scrolling areas, though the sections in 3-D have bad hit detection. And, in accordance to Nintendo logic, your guys do three flips everytime they jump ( just like real life commandos!)

Challenge=8.7 Without the thirty life code, Contra is a good test of your reflexes and memory. Any Joe Nintendo could play through this one with 30 lifes-- Boring!

Story=3.0 You and your buddy must defeat evil aliens taking over the world---*yawn*---

Overall=8.0 A very good game and a fun shooter. This is one of those games that is a blast to play. not a must have game, but a very good one if you like the old NES days.
