Airwolf

Review by Dragon

"Shoot this helicopter down"

If you think about Airwolf, one word will come to mind: pathetic. Airwolf was a really bad attempt at a flight simulator. You might even have fun for the first five minutes, but you won't be playing this again. It is pretty much the same over and over again. It is pretty much the same over and over again. Even if you tried your best, you would not find two things that was fun about this game. Here, I will tell you all the terrible things about the game. Lets start with gameplay.

You are a chopper, who has to save hostages and destroy as many airplanes as you can, while trying not to get hit by the missiles and stuff. That is it. This will remind you of Xenophobe. It never ends. Nope, no matter how long you play, you will keep killing airplanes and saving hostages. If that is not boring, I don't know what is.

Most of the game is flying around while shooting other planes and saving hostages. You need to get the planes in the middle of the screen and shoot them to kill them. Sure, there's a mini game that involves landing the chopper, but it's short, and it's boring. Each mission is practically the same, every enemy is practically the same, and landing is practically the same. Basically, it's one horrible game that never ends, yes it goes on and on my friends...

The controls are kind of easy to figure out, but pretty slow and sometimes unresponsive. You have to move the plane so you can shoot the enemies, but sometimes, you have homing missiles so you don't need this unneeded task. Top Gun was an example of a game with good controls, but looking further into the game, you find the controls are slow, and a litter unresponsive at times. When you move up or down to shoot an enemy, it usually takes a couple seconds to be able to shoot a plane, and by then, the plane is either gone, or has already shot at you, then you have to shoot the middle, and by the time you reach it, the missile has already hit you.

The backgrounds of the game are terrible. It looks like something made inside Paint. There are two colors. One plain blue for the sky and one plain green for the ground. This is one of the most pathetic backgrounds I have ever seen for a game. If you get this, you will agree. The game shows the cockpit interior, which isn't horrible, but it is pretty bad. At least you can distinguish a few things. There is a screen on it which tells you what is happening to you, with messages like ''Critical Damage''. The planes have nearly zero animation, it only comes to you like when a sign on the side of the road. Distant at first, but when it gets close it gets bigger. However there is no animation to it. The missiles that are fired at you are very unimpressive too. Just like 1942, it is just an orange circle which you have to shoot to keep from getting hit. None ever miss. Your bullets are white circles also. There are a few mission briefings that were done at best decent, but this does not really make up for the awfulness of the game.

The sounds are just as bad as the graphics. There is only one track for the background, but it is only okay at best. Nothing impressed. The effects are pretty dull. One where you shoot, get hit, etc. Nothing to get excited about at all. Turn the sound off. Now.

Overall, this is probably one of the worst flight simulators ever. Bad gameplay, horrible sounds, graphics, and controls, I can't even start to explain to you how horrible this is. Unless you are trying to collect every NES game ever made, this is a must avoid.
