Review by J J N
"Boring and horrible."
Introduction
This is yet another dire attempt to engender a game that some what has a vague theme of martial arts in it. This game, Karate Champ is without story line and so-below-the-average graphics and monotonous music that makes you want to tear your hair out. So therefore I'll give you a quick review for this game to save yourself from spending money or your time playing this game.
Game Play
At the beginning of the game when you boot up the system, you’ll hear this oriental music with the picture of karate kid and his master in front of the screen. Oh wow. You have the option of playing one player, two player and that is about it. The game is actually set in a tournament place with cheering crowds and you’re fighting an opponent. People are in karate uniform and there is a referee in the middle of the mat. So, what does Karate Champ knows after his extensive training with the old master? Quick a few moves, actually.
Karate Champ knows how to punch, which is basically a straight forward jab. He also knows the infamous crane kick, which he kicks with one leg and knocks out the opponent. He doesn’t know any other moves … oh wait, he also knows the foot sweep. An interesting note: Karate Champ is actually a “dirty” fighter. When his opponent does the flying kick, he kicks their groin with the foot sweep thus ending the match. The opponents in the game aren’t that difficult because they inherently know the same martial art moves as you do. They punch and kick and do the super flying kick.
Because this game is held in a tournament style, you have to defeat your opponents before becoming the champion. The game held in rounds and you have a limited number of loses before being excluded from the tournament.
Sounds boring? It is. I played this game for a few minutes before yawning and going to sleep because it didn’t grasp my attention I don’t like this game a bit because of its dire graphics and very, very annoying sound track that keeps looping over and over in the game.
Conclusion
This game has very little entertainment value in it. And like the many other garbage game translation out there, this game belongs in that pile of half attempt to engender something playable. But this game just end up being something you can beat in five minutes - ten minutes top.
