Popeye
Review by sknmak
"What the....!"
Popeye. The stupid game, well not that stupid, but still stupid. In Popeye you play as Popeye himself, tring to rescue you beloved Olive Oil. But there are distractions along with Pluto. So basically you'll be tring to capture hearts or music notes (or whatever else flies down from the sky!), in order to save Olive Oil. But when Popeye is in his "weak" state, you can't attack Pluto. But when you get your healthy spinish you can attack Pluto for a short while. Pluto will run away, so you'll have to catch him. Well, the game does have a bit of concept and creativity. Some levels are interactive, which adds a little fun to the game. And some levels are just plain and dumb. So, level after level you'll be doing the same thing; Over and over and over again! Climbing a lot of latters, running from Pluto, and capturing hearts!
Popeye gets a 2 out of 10
Graphics: 2/10
This game is not very ugly, but it's THAT ugly. THAT ugly means this game looks like bread crumbs! The hearts even look a bit blocky! Popeye body is funny looking a he moves funny. Well I can understand that because it is on the NES, but there's no excuse for this messed up looking game! My eye's are burning!
Controls: 1/10
More like a 0.75 out of 10!!! The control responses way too SLOW. Mostly, when you press a button, Popeye reacts a few seconds late, and when he does react it's too late, because he's already dead! The controls makes this game too hard to complete. Stupid controls
Gameplay: 1/10
Now lets do math, No good Gameplay(1), minus(-), no good Controls(1), equals,(1-1=0)! ZERO is exactly what this game deserves. But I can't give it a Zero because the freaking game sprites move, so I had to give it something! Popeye moves slow, just like everything else in the game. So you'll have to be on point when making jumps that you think you will make, but suddenly die! Do you get the picture.
Fun Factor: 2.5/10
The Fun Factor kind of saved Popeye, and it kind of didn't. Fun Factor didn't save Popeye because of the weak-@ss gameplay, and too slow controls, AND stupid plain level design! But, however, Fun Factor saved Popeye because Popeye did have a lot of things from the cartoon, and I (along with other people) actually like Popeye. But this game does nothing good for Popeye.
