Review by StarGlider
"An easy, fun game that's amazingly enjoyable and satisfying to beat."
The reason I rate this game low is because it's so easy. I wish it was longer and harder, because believe it or not, this is a very fun game. It's for kids really, but it's fun for anyone if your in the mood to play a cutsey 8-bit Disney platformer.
So, on to the review...
~Gameplay: 9/10~
The gameplay in this game leaves little to be desired when it comes to controls. It's fun to control Ariel once you get to moves down. You use bubbles to catch enemies and throw them to kill other enemies. Actually, this is pretty fun. The game it basic and simple but it flows and is a fun, easy play. The biggest complaint is how incredibly EASY this game is. Oh, well.
~Story: 7/10~
Well, it's The Little Mermaid. What more can I say? The plot as been altered somewhat for video game purposes, and it's kinda dull if you know what I mean, but I don't really care. I just like to whip Ursula's fat octo-butt. Isn't that all we need from a Little Mermaid game?
~Audio/Video: 10/10~
Okay, okay, I admit it. The songs from this game have kind of grown on me. No, they are not music from the movie like you'd expect, but instead they are original, and might I add, very catchy. It's almost like you could make up your own words to them. The music is good for and NES game.
Graphics. Hmm. Yeah, they are pretty good, believe it or not. The undersea scenes are nice and beautiful, reminicent of the movie, and yet, it's not too much like the movie. The 'cinema' scenes totally suck, but the actual gameplay graphics are very nice.
~Replayability:7/10~
Once you beat this incredibly easy game, I guess it's fun to go back and play it again sometimes, but not really that fun. I mean, once you beat it, it's mostly over. But if you ever feel discouraged from another game, and you feel like you ultimately suck, play this game and you'll beat it so fast, it'll really bring up your self esteem. =) I've beaten this game in about 20 minutes, and it's fun to play when you just want to wind down and do something that's not too challenging. You'll get some satisfaction from beating it again and again, though.
So, the lowdown: should you buy this game? Well, my advice to you is that you should borrow it first and see it you like it before buying. But I think it's a game worth owning.
