  +--------------------+
--| 1.2 - Introduction |-------------------------------------------------------
  +--------------------+

For many people, Xenosaga is not their first foray into the Xeno-world. It all
began when many years ago, a little known game known as Xenogears was released
upon the world by Squaresoft (now Square-Enix). Hailed by some as one of the
best roleplaying games of all time, Xenogears had a deep engrossing religious
story with memorable characters and interesting gameplay. A true classic with
a distinct cult following.

Xenosaga is a game by the same team that made Xenogears, but contrary to what
most people believe, it is not a sequel or prequel to Xenogears at all. The
Xenosaga game is based on a series of books that tell the story of the Xeno
universe. The game that is currently known as Xenosaga: Episode 1, is actually
the first part of a 6-part series that will encompass the entire Xenosaga story
(or a bit part of it anyway).

Xenogears was based on the original Xeno universe that the authors had in mind,
but after Xenogears was produced, the authors of the story were not content
with what had been produced (both story and gamewise), and decided to rewrite
the Xeno story into an "alternate universe" as opposed to Xenogears' universe
(or perhaps the Xenogears universe is the alternate one, as Xenosaga is how
the authors envisioned it).

Although there are some distinct similarities between the two stories - there
are some familiar faces, names, and others - the main story of Xenosaga should
be seen as a separate story completely unrelated to Xenogears. Time (and the
other five games-to-be) will tell what the authors have in store for us...

The intention of this guide is to help you make your way throughout the game,
past the difficult points and with all the extras that have been hidden all
throughout the game.

If you do not want the game spoiled for you in any way, do not use the guide
until you have finished the game at least once. Although spoilers are being
kept to a minimum, it is impossible to ensure that they will not ruin your
gaming experience. If you have no qualms about that, you should find the
walkthrough a useful assistant to get you through the game with as many of the
secrets as possible.

  +-------------------+
--| 1.3 - Conventions |--------------------------------------------------------
  +-------------------+

In this guide several conventions are used so that the reader/player can find
his/her way through the game with the help of this guide.

Directions are described as the four compass directions (or a combination
thereof). Assuming the character is in the middle of your screen, north means
pushing the directional button (or left analog stick) upwards so that the the
character will walk further into the background. South means pushing the pad or
stick downwards, causing the character to approach the front and bottom of the
screen. West and east are synonyms for the left and right side of the screen
respectively.

The four buttons are described by the image on top of them, i.e. TRIANGLE,
CIRCLE, X and SQUARE. They will always be capitalized to avoid confusion. The
same for the START and SELECT buttons, or the R1, R2 and L1 buttons.

The guide is divided into several main sections, each of which are divided into
subsections and have been numbered to make locating a specific section much
easier.

--| 1.5 - Frequently Asked Questions |-----------------------------------------
  +----------------------------------+

NOTE: Questions directed to my e-mail address at the top of this guide will be
placed here in future versions of this FAQ/Guide.

--[Game Questions]--

Q: What will happen if I load the cleared game file in Episode 2?
A: Nothing official has been stated about this yet, but presumably your levels,
skills/techs/ethers and/or items will be carried over.

Q: What is the level cap for Tech Attack upgrades?
A: No one has mentioned having encountered a cap yet, so who knows? Is there
anyone willing to invest all tech points into one tech attack to find out?
   =)

Q: If I miss replying to certain emails on time, will I be unable to get the
   rewards later on?
A: Unfortunately, yes, you cannot get the rewards for emails that you have not
replied to within the allowed time limit. You should always reply to such
emails immediately, or before heading to the next area of the game.

Q: What does the Sprinkle Plug-in do?
A: The only thing the Sprinkle Plug-in does, is help you to get the F-SCYTHE in
the last phase of the game. It helps process some data that Miyuki needs to
complete the F-SCYTHE prototype. This is all part of the F-SCYTHE email
   sidequest.

--[Story Questions]--

This section MAY contain spoilers, so do not read them unless you have finished
the game at least once!

Q: How many episodes are there in the Xenosaga series?
A: According to the plans of the creators, there will be a total of 6 episodes.

Q: When can we expect Episode 2?
A: No official date has been announced yet, but most likely the Japanese
version will not come out until late 2003, or early 2004. After that, expect
another half year at the very least before a US release. If compared to the
time between the Episode 1 Japan and US releases, expect a full year between
the releases. Only time will tell really.

--| 1.7 - Thanks |-------------------------------------------------------------
  +--------------+

I would like to offer many thanks to the following people for (unknowingly)
assisting in the creation of this guide:

Monolith Soft for developing this great game and hopefully the many games to
come. They can rest assured that for the coming decade they will have a very
solid fanbase. It takes guts to begin such a great undertaking, but all of us
are glad they did!

Namco for publishing Xenosaga and releasing it ouside of the niche market of
Japan. Thanks for recognizing that there is a market for games such as these
in the rest of the world as well. So when can we expect Xenosaga here in
Europe? ;)

The people at xenosaga.com for keeping us up to date on all the Xenosaga news
and providing us with lots of goodies to keep us interested during the long
wait.

The wonderful voice actors who made the characters really come to life and
thus made the story and game that much more enjoyable (okay, lots of people
will probably disagree here, but that's THEIR opinion).

Friedrich Nietzsche for writing his book that would give the inspiration for
the title of this game (and much, much more).

Sephiroth of the Gurus Network (http://www.thegurusnetwork.com/) for inciting
me to write this guide (I had plans to, but never really got around to it). Now
if he would just finish the game already, he could actually READ this without
having things spoiled for him! ;)

Jim/darkchoco of the Square Network (http://www.square-net.com/) for making his
Xenogears site many years ago (may it rest in peace). It was that which got me
interested in Xenogears and so indirectly in Xenosaga as well. This guide would
not have existed without him.

The people at Gamestop for actually getting this game to my house somewhere in
that distant continent known as Europe. Imports forever! Oh, and that KOS-MOS
T-shirt is awesome ;)

Phobia for mentioning that replying negatively to the man in the Zohar hangar
on the Woglinde, who offers to send you some secret emails MAY prevent you from
getting the first investment email. Also for helping out with the locations of
some of the accessories I have not been able to locate yet.

Aod9910 for helping out with the location of the Star Hat.

Wei Chou for helping out with the location of the Star Hat.

  +-----------------+

Thousands of years into the future, mankind has abandoned Earth and exists only
in deep space. Having used their advanced technology to unlock the secrets of
the universe, humanity hopes to do the same with the Zohar, a powerful and
mysterious artifact reputedly existing since the dawn of time. But a hostile
alien life form, the Gnosis, brutally attack at every turn. Why? Unbeknownst to
mankind, the race to unlock the final mystery, and to embrace an uncertain
destiny, has begun.

The Xenosaga story delivers the player a rich cast with colorful, lively and
diverse characters with backgrounds that will reach far beyond the scope of
just this first game. What does fate have in store for them?

  +---------------------+

Name: Shion Uzuki

Chief Engineer of the KOS-MOS Project General Operation System Research Center,
Vector Industries First R&D Division.

"Zohar Project" - a plan developed jointly between the government and private
industry - and to test KOS-MOS.

Gender: Female
Height: 167 cm (5'6")

Age: Looks about 18 years old
Weapon: Diverse weaponry created by Vector's Secondary R&D Division

A female, armored battle android developed by the intersteller conglomerate,
Vector Industries. She is comprised entirely of mechanical parts, a rarity in
an age of advanced Realian technology. "KOS-MOS" is not her personal name, but
rather the name of the complete battle system designed to combat Gnosis.

A combat cyborg assigned the task of recovering and protecting MOMO, the
prototype 100-Series Observational Realian.
Instead of embracing the fact that he was once human, Ziggy is constantly
tuning his body, eliminating his organic parts in order to erase his own
existence and reduce himself from a "person" to a mere "object."

observe and contact Gnosis, an alien life form that can only be detected by a
"special sense." MOMO is short for Multiple Observative Mimetic Organicus.
She was created by Joachim Mizrahi, a scientist renowned throughout the galaxy,
and his wife, Juli Mizrahi.

--| 2.3 - Gameplay |-----------------------------------------------------------
  +----------------+

Xenosaga is a single player role playing game that requires a memorycard to
save your progress. Although it is possible to finish the game without saving
even once, you will need to reload an old savegame when you die, and you will
most likely die at least once. Because the Xenosaga savegames take up
relatively little space, it is advisable to keep a few save files of specific
points in the game so that if for some reason you missed anything, you can
always fall back on your old savegame.

Once you turn on the console, you will arrive at the title screen where you can
select between a New Game, or Continue.

If this is your first time playing, choose New Game. You will proceed to the
opening cinematics and afterwards gain control of your first two characters.

If you have played the game before and have a Xenosaga savefile stored on a
memorycard in slot 1 or 2, you can choose Continue to load one of your old
save games. Select the correct memory slot and the appropriate save game and
you will be restored to the very instant when you saved.

  +-----------------+
--| 2.3.1 - Playing |----------------------------------------------------------
  +-----------------+

The game consists of three different modes (not including minigames), the
Quest Mode, Battles, and Cinematic Events.

Quest Mode is the part of the game where you will be able to use your on-screen
character to explore your surroundings, interact with NPCs, acquire items, save
and encounter enemies.

Battles will ensue once you encounter an enemy in Quest Mode or after specific
Cinematic Events. Here you will be able to use your three (or less) primary
characters to defeat the encountered enemies. The battle will end when either
all enemies are destroyed or all three of your characters have been taken out.
Finishing a battle will gain your characters experience points, as well as a
small number of Tech, Ether and Skill points. From some enemies you will also
receive money or items. Losing the battle will mean you have to restore a save
game that you created earlier.

Cinematic Events occur every now and then to progress the story. You will have
no direct control over these events as they play like a movie. Most of them
will appear after entering an area, defeating bosses or talking to people. They
can be skipped if you have seen them before by pressing the START button to
pause the cinematic, and then the TRIANGLE button to skip. Do not do this if
you have not seen the cinematic before, or you may miss important information
integral to the story.

  +-----------------------+
--| 2.3.2 - The Main Menu |----------------------------------------------------
  +-----------------------+

The Main Menu can be accessed at any time during Quest Mode by pressing the
TRIANGLE button. The menu will let you do all the important things such as
equipping and customizing your characters, browsing your inventory, changing
the game options and looking up information on the U.M.N.

Use the directional pad or left analog stick to move the cursor, and use the
CIRCLE button to confirm your selection, or the X button to cancel and/or
return to the previous menu.

  +------------------------+
--| 2.3.2.1 - The Overview |---------------------------------------------------
  +------------------------+

The first screen of the Main Menu shows your three active characters with their
basic stats and a list of menus that will be explained below. You can return to
Quest Mode by pressing the X button.

--[Character Stats]--

Each character has a number of stats displayed on the Overview screen which you
can use to quickly see their current status. Only the three characters that are
currently in your active party (the Combatants) will be displayed here.

Lv (LEVEL): The character's current level. You can use this as a guide to
                  determine your character's overall strength.
Hp (HIT POINTS): The character's hit points, which determine how much damage
he/she can take in combat. The character's current Hp is on
the left, the maximum Hp is on the right.
Ep (ETHER POWER): The character's ether power. Ether power is deducted whenever
the character uses an Ether, an ether subweapon or an
A.G.W.S. with an ether weapon. Current Ep is on the left, and
the maximum Ep on the right.
NextLv: The experience points still needed to progress to the next
                  level.
Exp: The character's total amount of experience points.

--[Menu]--

Items: View/sort/use the items in your inventory.
Ether: View/set/use/evolve/transfer ethers.
Tech Attack: View/set/upgrade Tech Attacks.
Skills: View/set/learn skills from items in your inventory.
Characters: View extended character stats and/or use Tech Points to
upgrade those stats. You can also equip armor/accessories on
                  this screen.
A.G.W.S.: View/equip your A.G.W.S. units.
Battle Formation: Change the formation that your Combatant characters will use
in combat. Combatants can be swapped with Reserves here.
U.M.N.: Access the Unus Mundus Network to look up information or
                  access your email.
Game Options: Set options that affect your game.

--[Reserve]--

The characters not in your active combat party (Combatants) are placed under
Reserve. The Reserve characters will earn experience from the battles won by
the Combatants, but the amount they earn will be lower. They will also NOT earn
any Tech, Ether or Skill Points, making them considerably weaker if you do not
put your Reserve characters in your combat party occasionally.

--[Time]--

The time that you have been playing the game will be shown here. The maximum of
this counter is 99 hours, 59 minutes and 59 seconds, so if you have been
playing for more than 100 hours, the counter will seem to be stuck at that
value.

--[Money]--

The amount of money that your party has. It can be used to buy items, weapons,
accessories and parts for your A.G.W.S. units. You will also need money to
participate in some of the minigames such as the Drilling and the Casino games.
Money is hard to come by until halfway through the game, so spend it wisely.

  +-----------------+
--| 2.3.2.2 - Items |----------------------------------------------------------
  +-----------------+

The Items menu will let you view and sort the items, special items, accessories
and A.G.W.S. parts that you currently have in your possession. You can also use
some of the consumable items such as Med Kits, Ether Packs and Bio Spheres to
heal yourself here.

Use the L1 and R1 buttons to cycle between the different item categories. The
TRIANGLE button will allow you to sort the items in the current menu by either
Category, Amount or Alphabet.

The window at the bottom of the screen will tell you more of the use that your
currently selected item has.

There are eight different categories that your items will be divided by:

Items: Recovery items, items that grant free Tech, Ether or
Skill points, and items that can be sold for money.
Special items: Items that have some importance to the plot or a quest.
You cannot actually use these items, but they will
usually trigger an event or allow you to access places.
Weapons: Character weapons that are not currently equipped.
Accessories: Armor, helmets and accessories that are not currently
                      equipped.
Ammo: Ammo for the character weapons that is not currently
                      being used by equipped weapons.
A.G.W.S. weapons: Weapons for A.G.W.S. units that are not currently
                      equipped on an A.G.W.S.
A.G.W.S. accessories: Accessories for A.G.W.S. units that are not currently
                      equipped on an A.G.W.S.
A.G.w.S. ammo: Ammo for A.G.w.S. weapons that is not currently being
                      used by equipped A.G.W.S. weapons.

  +-----------------+
--| 2.3.2.3 - Ether |----------------------------------------------------------
  +-----------------+

The Ether menu will let you use Ether spells, set Ethers for a character so the
character can use them, and allocate Ether Points (earned in battle) to learn
new Ethers or transfer them to another character.

--[Use]--

"Use" will let you select an Ether that has currently been set to the active
character. Most Ethers can only be used during battles, but healing Ethers can
be used from the menu as well. The Ep cost of the selected Ether is displayed
to the right. Ethers that cannot be used for any reason are grayed out.

To use an Ether, use the directional pad or left analog stick to select the
Ether of your choice. Confirm your selection with the CIRCLE button and then
select the character you want to use the Ether on. Confirm with the CIRCLE
button again.

--[Set]--

The "Set" menu will let you set and remove Ethers. All Ethers have a value that
is known as Ether Weight. Every character can set Ethers up to a total Ether
Weight of 12. This means that you can for instance set 6 Ethers with an Ether
Weight of 1, and 3 Ethers with an Ether Weight of 2. If you want to set another
Ether, you will have to remove one of the currently set Ethers first. The
current and maximum Ether Weight are shown above the list.

--[Use E.Pts]--

In this menu you can use Ether Points to either evolve your Ethers to learn new
ones, or to transfer an Ether to another character so that that character can
use the selected Ether as well (very useful for healing Ethers).

To evolve an Ether, select one that you can already use (it must be one unique
to this character). The Ether Points evolution cost will be displayed to the
right of each Ether on the list. If you have enough Ether Points, choose the
Evolve option and the new Ether that you want to learn. It will then become
available to that character and you can still use the old one. Do not forget to
set it in the Set menu, or you will not be able to use it during combat!

To transfer an Ether to another character, select one that has already been
learned and is unique to your current character. The cost to transfer an Ether
to another character is 50% of the evolution cost (a 300 Ether Points spell
will cost 150 to transfer). Select the character you want to transfer the Ether
to and that character will then be able to set it in the Set menu.

  +------------------------+
--| 2.3.2.4 - Tech Attacks |---------------------------------------------------
  +------------------------+

Throughout the game, your characters will learn powerful attacks known as Tech
Attacks as their levels increase. Only six Tech Attack can be set for active
use during combat, the others will remain unusuable until set.

Tech Attacks can be upgraded with Tech Points, allowing them to be used faster
(4AP instead of 6AP), more powerful, or with a shorter wait time after using
them.

Each character has 6 slots for Tech Attacks. Four of these are Low (LW) speed,
meaning they can only be used when the character has 6AP available. These are
activated by using a combination of the TRIANGLE and SQUARE buttons. There are
also two High (HI) speed slots, which can be used with only 4AP and either the
SQUARE or TRIANGLE button.

All existing and new Tech Attacks all start at Low (LW) speed and can therefore
only be assigned to one of the four LW slots. To use these Tech Attacks your
character MUST have 6AP, which means you can use them only once every two turns
at best.

Once you have upgraded a Tech Attack to High (HI) speed, you can put that Tech
Attack in a HI slot, allowing you to use that character's Tech Attack with only
4AP. This way you can use it every single turn and thus do considerably more
damage. High speed attacks can still be put in a Low speed slot though.

There are both short-range and long-range Tech Attacks. Short-range attacks
(attacks that require the enemy to be on the ground and not in the backrow) can
only be put into a slot with a SQUARE attack, whereas long-range attacks can
only be put into a slot with ONLY a TRIANGLE attack. Because of this you can
have only two long-range attacks available at all times. Choose wisely which
one you want to use. The only exception to this rule is Jr. who has only
long-range attacks and can therefore use all six slots for them.

--[Set]--

This menu allows you to set and remove Tech Attacks for a specific character.
Select the slot you want to put a Tech Attack in, and then select the Tech
Attack to use. Tech Attacks that cannot be used for that specific slot will be
grayed out. The number to the right of each Tech Attack is the amount of slots
that that specific attack is set to.

--[Use T.Pts]--

This menu will let you upgrade your Tech Attacks by allocating the Tech Points
that you have earned in battle. Your total amount of available Tech Points is
displayed at the top of the Tech Attack list. You can upgrade each Tech Attack
in three areas. Upgrading Tech will let you increase the damage dealt by the
attack, Speed will let you put the Tech Attack in a HI slot, and Wait will let
you decrease the time that you have to wait after using that Tech Attack. Lv is
the current level of that Tech Attack area, and T.Pts is the amount of Tech
Points required to upgrade it further.

  +------------------+
--| 2.3.2.5 - Skills |---------------------------------------------------------
  +------------------+

In the Skills menu you can extract Skills from armor, helmets and accessories
and assign these to a character. Each character can have a maximum of three
Skills set to him/her at any one time. This amount can be increased by having
the character equip accessories with needed skills if you need more than three.

In order to have Skills to set, a character must first extract a Skill from an
unequipped (!) accessory (or armor/helmet). Extracting a skill requires that
the character has enough Skill Points and a sufficient Skill Level. Skill
Points can be earned through combat or Skill Upgrade items, and Skill Levels
are gained by spending a certain amount of Skill Points on extracting Skills.

Skill Level 2 requires 200 Skill Points to be spent
Skill Level 3 requires 800 Skill Points to be spent
Skill Level 4 requires 1800 Skill Points to be spent
Skill Level 5 requires 4500 Skill Points to be spent

--[Extract]--

This menu will let you extract Skills from unequipped accessories using Skill
Points. Select the accessory you want to extract a Skill from. If your Skill
Level and Skill Points amount are sufficient, and you have not learned that
particular Skill yet, it will be colored white, indicating that it can be
extracted. Confirm your selection and you will then be able to set it to your
character using the Set menu.

--[Set]--

This menu will allow you to set up to three Skills for each of your characters.
A Skill that has already been set will be marked with a check mark. Use the
SQUARE button to cycle through set Skills, or use the CIRCLE button to set or
remove a Skill.

  +----------------------+
--| 2.3.2.6 - Characters |-----------------------------------------------------
  +----------------------+

The Characters menu will let you view the stats of all your characters, let you
equip weapons and accessories, and it will also let you increase the strength
of their attributes by spending Tech Points. When selecting a character, you
can press the SQUARE button to make that particular character the On-Screen
character during Quest Mode. Changing the On-Screen character will result in
alternate dialogues with some NPCs and will sometimes even let you find hidden
items that you could not before!

--[Character Status Screen]--

This screen displays the Points and attributes of a single character. You can
also equip, unequip or strengtehn your characters here. Use the L1 and R1
buttons to switch between characters.

Aside from the basic information also available on the Overview screen, the
following information is available for each character:

T.Pts: The amount of available Tech Points for upgrading Tech Attacks and
       character attributes.
E.Pts: The amount of available Ether Points for evolving and transferring
       Ethers.
S.Pts: The amount of available Skill points for extracting new Skills.
Str: The character's Strength, which determines the amount of physical damage
       dealt in combat.
Vit: The character's Vitality, which determines the amount of physical damage
you receive in combat when attacked.
Eatk: The character's Ether Attack, which determines the power of your Ether
       Attacks and Spells.
Edef: The character's Ether Defense, which determines the amount of damage you
take when attacked by an ether-based attack or spell during combat.
Dex: The character's Dexterity which determines the hit accuracy.
Eva: The character's Evasion, which determines the chance that your character
       can evade the enemy's attack.
Agl: The character's Agility, which determines when the character gets its
first turn, and how soon it will get its next turn.

--[Equip]--

In the Equip menu you can equip your characters with weapons and accessories.
Shion, MOMO, chaos and Jr. can equip weapons that increase their physical
attacks, while KOS-MOS and Ziggy can equip subweapons that can be used in
battle a limited amount of times. You can only equip one piece of armor and one
helmet at the same time.

--[Unequip]--

This menu lets you remove equipped accessories from one of your characters.

--[Use T.Pts]--

This menu lets you increase your character's attributes by allocating Tech
Points to them. Select the attribute to raise and increase the amount to
add using the directional pad or left analog control stick. Then confirm it
using the CIRCLE button.

You can raise Hp, Ep, Str, Vit, Eatk, Edef, Dex and Eva. Each of them has a
maximum value that they can be raised to, which is equal to the highest value
of that attribute owned by your characters. For instance, if KOS-MOS has an
Eatk value of 33 and everyone else has a value of 30 or lower, you cannot
increase this value anymore for KOS-MOS, but you can for instance raise Shion's
up to a maximum of 33.

Note that each gained experience level will add 1 point to each of the
attributes (except Agl) and a bit more for Hp/Ep. If there is a level
difference between the characters, do not spend Tech Points up to the maximum,
as the character attributes will raise to that maximum automatically once he or
she levels up and has the same level as the character with the highest value
for that attribute.

For instance if KOS-MOS is level 10 and has Eatk 33 (the highest of all the
characters) and Shion is level 9 with Eatk 32. Once Shion's level increases to
10, her Eatk will automatically increase by 1 point to the maximum of 33. If
you had increased her Eatk to 33 while she was level 9, you would have wasted
precious Tech Attack points.

  +--------------------+
--| 2.3.2.7 - A.G.W.S. |-------------------------------------------------------
  +--------------------+

The A.G.W.S. menu will let you equip and remove both weapons and accessories
for your A.G.W.S. units. It will also let you assign pilots to them. Each
A.G.W.S. has specific attributes that helps selecting the A.G.W.S. units and
their weapons for the optimal combinations.

FHP: The Frame Hit Points, which determine how much damage the A.G.W.S. can
      take before becoming inoperable.
DPOW: The Dynamic Power, which is the amount of physical offensive strength the
A.G.W.S. has, based upon the equipped weapons and power provided by the
      generator.
PARM: The Physical Armor, which determines the amount of damage the A.G.W.S.
takes from receiving a physical attack.
EARM: The Ether Armor, which determines the amount of damage the A.G.W.S. takes
from receiving Ether attacks. The VX-series have a basic EARM attribute
while the AG-series have none. EARM is based on the pilot's attributes,
therefore the EARM attribute can differ widely depending on the pilot.
AGL: Agility determines how long the A.G.W.S. has to wait between turns.
WAGL: The Weapon Agility increases the recovery time between turns (usually
the larger the weapon, the higher the WAGL and recovery time).

--[Equip]--

The Equip menu will let you equip the A.G.W.S. with weapons and accessories. Up
to three weapons and accessories can be equipped at any one time, although the
type of weapons equipped can decrease the amount of weapons that the A.G.W.S.
may equip at the same time.

For instance, the AG-02 can mount a Shield Beam Rifle on its left shoulder,
a weapon that functions both as a shield and rifle, but prevents any weapons
from being equipped in its left hand.

Large support weapons which are usually equipped in the R.Alt slot take up a
lot of space and usually decrease the total number of equipped weapons allowed
to 2 or even 1. Choose wisely when determining what weapons to equip on your
A.G.W.S.!

--[Unequip]--

This will let you remove weapons and accessories that are currently equipped on
your A.G.W.S.

--[Pilot]--

To use an A.G.W.S. in battle, it must be assigned to a pilot. Only Shion, MOMO,
chaos and Jr. can be selected as one. The choice of pilot will influence the
damage dealt by Ether weapons and the amount of damage taken by Ether attacks.
A pilot can be assigned only one A.G.W.S. at a time. If you wish to assign a
different A.G.W.S., either replace the current pilot with a free character, or
remove the pilot from his/her current A.G.W.S. and then assign the new A.G.W.S.

  +----------------------------+
--| 2.3.2.8 - Battle Formation |-----------------------------------------------
  +----------------------------+

The Battle Formation menu will let you change the formation that your party
uses during combat. It will also let you change the three members of your
battle party once you have at least four characters.

--[Formation]--

Use Formation to change the formation of your combat party. First select the
character that you want to move, and then the position to move them to. A
character in the front row can attack normally and use magic items and A.G.W.S.
units. A character in the back row will receive less damage from group attacks
and cannot be attacked with short-range attacks. The character will not be able
to attack however, and can only use Ethers and Items. Putting your character
behind another character will prevent the character in front from being pushed
into the back row. This is helpful in some battles where being pushed in the
back row would prevent the character from attacking.

--[Replace]--

The Replace command will let you swap your active battle party members for
Reserve characters.

  +------------------+
--| 2.3.2.9 - U.M.N. |---------------------------------------------------------
  +------------------+

The Unus Mundus Network will let you read and send email, check the Database to
lookup information on Gnosis and Keywords, and will also let you use the EVS
(Environmental Simulator) to access areas you have visited before.

--[Mail]--

Read emails you have received and reply to them if applicable. You can also
download the attachments that you receive with some emails. Some of them may
contain plug-ins, items, or even special subweapons for KOS-MOS.

--[Database]--

This will let you look up information on Gnosis that you have fought in battle,
as well as letting you look up information on technical terms and names you
have encountered throughout the game.

--[Plug-in Module]--

You can look through the downloaded plug-ins here. They are sent to you through
email and will provide extra functionality.

--[EVS]--

The EVS will let you revisit areas that you have visited previously. This way
you can get items that you missed on your first time through the area or level
up fighting simulated enemies to get extra experience or Tech/Ether/Skill
Points.

The EVS will become available after you have progressed in the game a bit. To
access it, find a golden U.M.N. pillar (the ones you use to save) with a blue
EVS plate on top of it. Wile standing there, open the Main Menu and proceed to
the U.M.N. and the EVS option. Select the area you want to access and you will
be taken there. You can explore the area and fight the enemies just like before
and get items that you missed before. Dying in battle in the EVS is just as
lethal as in real life, so be careful! To exit the EVS, locate an EVS plate and
choose the exit option.

  +-------------------------+
--| 2.3.2.10 - Game Options |--------------------------------------------------
  +-------------------------+

The Game Options menu will let you change your game configuration. Use the
directional pad or left analog stick to navigate the options and the CIRCLE
button to confirm your choices.

Sound Output: Sound Output can be switched between Stereo or Mono.
Cursor Location Memory: This will put the cursor at the same location as it was
at the last time a menu was accessed.
Vibration: Turns the controller vibration on or off.
Radar Display: Toggles the enemy radar on or off.
Monitor Settings: Adjust the position of the screen on your TV if it is
not properly centered. CIRCLE to confirm, SQUARE to
return it to its default setting and X to cancel.
Default: This will return all options to their default values.

  +--------------------+
--| 2.3.3 - Quest Mode |-------------------------------------------------------
  +--------------------+

A large part of the game is spent in Quest Mode, which will let you explore the
area you are in and interact with people and your surroundings. You can find
shops to buy items from and inns to rest at. You will also occasionally find
enemies which will attack you on sight. Depending on your actions in Quest Mode
the story will advance.

  +--------------------+
--| 2.3.3.1 - Movement |-------------------------------------------------------
  +--------------------+

To move around use the directional pad or left analog control stick. Depending
on how far you push the control stick, you can alternate between walking or
running. To walk really slow, keep the R2 button pressed while walking. This
will let you walk without producing too much noise. You can sneak past some
enemies this way.

  +-----------------------+
--| 2.3.3.2 - Interaction |----------------------------------------------------
  +-----------------------+

You can talk to NPCs (Non-Player Characters) by walking up to them and pressing
the CIRCLE button. Depending on who your On-Screen Character is, responses may
differ. Some NPCs will have helpful information that may help you in your quest
while others may have information that reveals more about the story.

You can operate doors by walking up to them and pressing the CIRCLE button. The
door should open automatically. Sometimes a door may be locked or cannot be
opened manually. In such a case, look for a control panel nearby that can be
used to operate the door. Sometimes you will need a key to operate the door or
control panel. Keep an eye out for these.

Occassionally you will find treasure chests which contain items, money and
accessories. Open these by walking up to them and pressing the CIRCLE button.
Once a chest has been opened, it will stay that way for the rest of the game.

  +-------------------+
--| 2.3.3.3 - Enemies |--------------------------------------------------------
  +-------------------+

In some areas you will encounter enemies that will attack you as soon as they
notice your presence. Battles in Xenosaga will only occur if an enemy touches
you. The enemies that roam the map will notice you when you approach and chase
after you to start a battle. This means that if you are fast enough, you can
outrun them to prevent a battle. Some battles cannot be avoided however.

If you enabled the radar in the Game Options menu, there will be a radar in the
bottom right of your screen which will make it easier for you to spot enemies
and evade them. The red icon in the center is you, while the yellow icons are
enemies. Any other red icons are enemies that have spotted you and will try
to attack you. Green icons are friendly NPCs. They will not attack you on sight
although they might if you talk to them.

  +------------------+
--| 2.3.3.4 - Saving |---------------------------------------------------------
  +------------------+

Occassionally you will stumble upon golden U.M.N. pillars. These will let you
save your game if you walk up to them (you should hear a chime if you are close
enough) and press the CIRCLE button. Select a memory card and slot to save to.

You can also use the U.M.N. pillars to heal up your characters completely by
using a Bio Sphere item. This will recover all Hp and Ep for all characters.

Once you have access to the EVS and minigames, look out for special U.M.N.
pillars that will let you access the Simulator and minigames.

  +------------------------------+
--| 2.3.3.5 - Vaporizing objects |---------------------------------------------
  +------------------------------+

Early in the game you will acquire a special item, the Vaporizer plug-in which
will let you blow up destroyable objects in Quest Mode. If you approach an
object that can be destroyed, it will be marked with a light blue cursor.
Pressing the SQUARE button will destroy it. If there are multiple targets that
can be destroyed, the targeted one will be colored with a light blue cursor,
the other ones will be colored with a dark blue cursor. You can switch between
the possible targets using the L1 and R1 buttons.

Some objects need to be blown up because they are blocking your path, but most
of them should be blown up because they may be concealing items or treasure
chests with helpful items. If you encounter something that can be destroyed, go
ahead and do so. Some objects also conceal special doors known as Segment
Addresses, which conceal powerful items. You will also need keys to unlock
these doors however. See the Segment Address section for more information.

Sometimes you will find a destroyable object that conceals an enemy. In such a
case you will end up fighting that enemy. Do not blow up any objects if you are
really low on health!

Lastly there are the so-called colored cannisters (yellow, red and purple). If
you blow these up while an enemy is nearby, the enemy will be caught up in the
blast and receive several disadvantages that should make it easier for you to
win the battle.

  +------------------+
--| 2.3.3.6 - Stores |---------------------------------------------------------
  +------------------+

Throughout the game you will often find people that sell you items, equipment
and gear parts. You will usually find these people in non-combat areas such as
spaceships, stations and cities. Talking to them will bring up a menu that will
let you buy or sell items as you see fit (providing you have enough money). At
some locations you will find silver U.M.N. plates which function as a store.

Select an item to buy or sell with the directional pad or left analog stick,
confirm, then choose the amount to buy/sell and confirm once again with the
CIRCLE button. You cannot sell weapons or accessories that are equipped.

Some places also sell A.G.W.S. upgrades aside from parts. You can upgrade the
frame (which increases FHP and PARM) and the generator (which increases DPOW).
These stores will also let you restore your A.G.W.S.'s FHP for a small fee.

  +-----------------+
--| 2.3.4 - Battles |----------------------------------------------------------
  +-----------------+

When you come into contact with an enemy in Quest Mode or after specific
events, you will end up fighting a battle. There are no random battles in this
game, meaning that you can see all enemies walking around in Quest Mode. This
makes it possible to sneak past some enemies if you make sure they do not see
you.

--| 2.3.4.1 - Battle Screen |--------------------------------------------------

The Battle Screen provides a lot of information which when used properly will
make winning the battle much easier.

+------------------------------------+-------------+

The top part of the screen shows the stats for the three characters of your
battle party:
Hp: The amount of Hp your character has left, and the maximum amount.
Ep: The amount of Ep your character has left, and the maximum amount.
Ap: The current amount of Action Points (0-6 AP)
Bg: The Boost Gauge. If it fills completely, you can Boost to use your
character's turn prematurely. The number next to it is the amount of full
Boost Gauges which can be used to Boost.

Underneath, one will find the name of the current enemy. To the bottom left is
the attack menu, which will let you select which attacks to use by either
pressing the SQUARE or TRIANGLE buttons. Pressing X will access the menu which
will let you use Items, Ethers, A.G.W.S. units, Move, or Guard.

Next is the Boost panel. If you press the R1/R2 button during battle, the Boost
panel will appear. If a character has the ability to Boost at that point, an
icon of that character will appear next to it (left for character one, above
for character 2 and to the right for character 3). While you keep the R2 button
pressed, you can choose the character to perform the boost with the SQUARE,
TRIANGLE or CIRCLE button respectively.

Next is the Event Slot, which can display one of four icons. The event slot
will grant a bonus to the attacker during that turn.

Last is the Group Turn Window. In the middle are displayed the characters with
upcoming turns. The leftmost person will be the one with the current turn.
Underneath are three icons which signify the position of your group members
(front or back row). Above are icons which signify the position of the enemies.
The currently targeted enemy will have a line running to the number above the
Group Turn Window, which shows the enemy's current amount of health and his
type (Biological, Mechanical or Gnosis). You need a skill or accessory that
will display an enemy's HP to use this.

--| 2.3.4.2 - Battle Basics |--------------------------------------------------

=AP (Action Points) and Actions=

All combat actions (attacking, using Ethers, using Items, etc.) require the use
of AP (Action Points). Every action uses a specific number of AP, which will
be deducted from your AP bar (which can have 0 to 6 AP at any time). If you
have insufficient AP at the given time, you cannot perform that specific action
and will need to do something else. Every turn you will receive 4AP, which will
be added to your AP bar. It will be added to any AP that was left from the
previous turn.

=Normal Attacks=

When it is your character's turn to attack, you can perform normal attacks
with the SQUARE and TRIANGLE buttons. Each normal attack will use 2 AP. The
screen will display what attack will be performed by pressing each button. A
blue background means that that attack will do physical damage, while a red
background means that the attack will deal ether damage. Keep this in mind when
fighting enemies that are resistant against one type and weak against the
other!

=Tech Attacks=

Tech Attacks are far more powerful than Normal Attacks but need to be primed
by using normal attacks first. Each Tech Attack is activated by performing
a sequence of Normal Attacks, followed by the CIRCLE button which will activate
the Tech Attack.

The Tech Attacks with a Low Speed will need 6 AP to perform and consist of one
of the following four combinations followed by the CIRCLE button:
  SQUARE, SQUARE
  SQUARE, TRIANGLE
  TRIANGLE, SQUARE
  TRIANGLE, TRIANGLE
To gain 6 AP for these attacks, you will need to carry over at least 2 AP from
the previous turn!

If a Tech Attack has a High Speed, it will need only 4 AP to perform and can be
activated either with the SQUARE or TRIANGLE button, followed by the CIRCLE
button. This attack can be used every single turn!

You can use the Tech Attacks menu in the Main Menu to determine which Tech
Attack is performed with which combination.

=Positioning/Formation=

Using the Move command, a character can go into the front or back row. In the
front, a character can use all commands fully but is more open to attacks. In
the back row a character can only use Ether and Item commands, but receives
less damage from attacks. Putting a character right behind another one will
prevent the character in front from being pushed into the back row by an enemy.

=Boarding an A.G.W.S.=

Characters assigned as the pilot of an A.G.W.S. can call upon that machine to
assist them in battle. Although the A.G.W.S. units are much slower than your
normal characters, they pack some very powerful weapons that may turn the tide
of the battle.

=Sub-weapon=

The two characters that cannot pilot an A.G.W.S. have a sub-weapon available
(which can be equipped at the Character menu). This weapon can be used by
pressing the circle button when the character has 6 AP available (BEFORE using
a normal attack!). Assuming the weapon has any ammo left and does not require
more Ep than is available, your character will use the weapon.

=Defense=

Characters have a chance of defending against an enemy attack, thus decreasing
the damage dealt to them. By using the Guard command, the chance of defending
is increased considerably. Because it uses 2 AP, this is also a good way of
charging up AP for a 6 AP attack.

=Escape=

When in combat with non-boss and non-event enemies, it is usually possible to
escape from the battle using the Escape Pack item or the Ether Goodbye.

  +--------------------------+
--| 2.3.4.3 - Status Effects |-------------------------------------------------
  +--------------------------+

Some attacks and Ethers do not just deal damage, but can afflict a character or
A.G.W.S. with a so-called status effect. This will affect the battle
performance of the affected character, so you should pay attention which
status effect was inflicted.

=Negative Character Status Effects (Status Abnormalities)=

  +----------------------+
--| 2.3.4.4 - Event Slot |-----------------------------------------------------
  +----------------------+

All damage dealt to and by characters is influenced by an effect that is
determined by the so-called Event Slot (located just to the left of the Group
Turn Window). Every turn, the Event Slot will rotate to the next effect and
influence the attack of the character attacking in that turn, be it friend or
foe. The starting effect is determined at random at the beginning of the
battle.

1. NO EFFECT
2. CRITICAL HIT RATE UP: The attacking character has a considerable chance of
                         causing critical damage.
3. BG INCREASE RATE UP: The attacking character's boost gauge will fill faster
                         than normally.
4. POINT BONUS: For every enemy defeated in the current turn, the
Tech/Ether/Skill Points earned will be multipled by
                         2, 4 or 10!
-> Back to 1

Learning to use the Event Slots to your advantage can seriously turn the tide
of battle. You should also make a habit out of it to kill enemies while the
Point Bonus slot is active, as this can considerably increase the amount of
Points you get from a fight.

  +--------------------+
--| 2.3.4.5 - Boosting |-------------------------------------------------------
  +--------------------+

Each character and enemy has a Boost Gauge that fills whenever that character
attacks an enemy. When a Boost Gauge is completely, filled, the character will
have the ability to do a Boost, which well let him/her interrupt the current
turn queue (as displayed in the Group Turn Window) and get the next turn. One
can boost both during an enemy's or friendly's turn. Only one character can
boost at a time however, so if an enemy has already boosted into the next turn,
you will have to wait until the next turn until you can Boost yourself. A
character can also NOT Boost if he/she is already in the Group Turn Window, nor
can a character Boost in his/her own turn. Keep this in mind. Using Boosting
effectively, it should be much easier to finish off enemies in Point Bonus
slots.

There are two types of Boosts, Normal Boost and Counter Boost. If a Normal
Boost is active, and a Counter Boost occurs, the Counter Boost will have a
higher priority.

=Normal Boost=

Pressing R1/R2 during battle will bring up the Boost panel. The face icons of
the characters that can Boost in the current turn will appear. Keep R1/R2
pressed while you use the SQUARE, TRIANGLE or CIRCLE button respectively to
select the character that you want to Boost.

=Counter Boost=

Some enemies and characters (with the right skills) will perform a Counter
Boost if they are attacked (with a certain probability). They will cut in line
for the next turn and override any Boosts that were already active.

  +-----------------------+
--| 2.3.4.6 - Battle Menu |----------------------------------------------------
  +-----------------------+

Pressing the X button in a character's turn will bring up the battle menu,
which differs depending on whether or not you are currently in an A.G.W.S. You
can use this menu to use special abilities, Items, Ethers and board an A.G.W.S.

--[Character Battles]--

During character battles the menu will contain the commands below. All commands
will use AP, just like attacks. The A.G.W.S. command will be unavailable for
those who cannot pilot or have not been assigned an A.G.W.S.

=Ether=

Requires 4 AP. This command will let you use one of the Ethers that you set in
the Ether Menu. The amount of Ep needed will differ per Ether.

=Item=

Requires 3 AP. This command will let you use any consumable items in your
possession.

=Move=

Requires 2 AP. This command will let you change the position of your character.

=A.G.W.S.=

Requires 4 AP. This command will let you board the assigned A.G.W.S. You will
need to choose a location where you want the A.G.W.S. to appear.

=Guard=

Requires 2 AP. This will decrease the damage received from enemy attacks and
charge up the AP bar to 6.

--[A.G.W.S. Battles]--

The menu options for an A.G.W.S. are considerably different and do not allow
the use of Items or Ethers. The considerably Hp bonus that the A.G.W.S. gives
you should more than make up for this.

=W-ACT=

Requires 6 AP. This special attack is possible when the A.G.W.S. has the same
weapon in both left and right hand and will let you attack with both weapons at
once, dealing considerable damage. Unavailable if the weapons do not support
W-ACT.

=ITEM=

Cannot be used.

=MOVE=

Requires 2 AP. This will let you relocate your A.G.W.S. to a different position
on the battlefield.

=A.G.W.S.=

Requires 4 AP. This will let you disembark from the A.G.W.S. Choose the place
where you want the pilot to appear.

=Guard=

Requires 2 AP. This will decrease the damage inflicted by enemies and charge up
the AP bar to 6.

  +-----------------------------+
--| 2.3.4.7 - Victory or Defeat |----------------------------------------------
  +-----------------------------+

If you win the battle, you will be shown the Victory Screen which will display
the rewards you have earned with this battle.

Clear Time: The time needed to win the battle.
Money: The money earned with this battle.
Exp: The experience points earned with this battle.
T.Pts: The Tech Points earned with this battle.
E.Pts: The Ether Points earned with this battle.
S.Pts: The Skill Points earned with this battle.
Items: Any items recovered from the enemies at the end of this battle.

Note that the total amount of Tech/Ether/Skill Points earned is divided by the
number of surviving characters in your battle party.

If you lose the battle, you will return to the Title Screen and have the option
to load a previously saved game. You DID save, right?

--| 3.1 - The Woglinde |-------------------------------------------------------
  +--------------------+

This part of the game focuses mainly on introducing the main character Shion
Uzuki and the battle android KOS-MOS. All of the action takes place on the
spaceship Woglinde that is on its way home after recovering a mysterious object
from space.

  +----------------------------+
--| 3.1.1 - KOS-MOS Simulation |-----------------------------------------------
  +----------------------------+

"Morning, KOS-MOS. How do you feel?" --Shion Uzuki

After the opening cinematics, you find yourself in a simple tutorial. If you
want to, you can go through it by talking to KOS-MOS and selecting one of the
first three options. After you finish those three tutorials, or if you wish to
skip them, choose "Switch to real combat". You will fight your first real
battle against simulated opponents. Defeat them to continue on to the next
simulation.

Before facing the drones patrolling the streets, notice that ladder on the
left? Climb it all the way to the top, blast the door open with your Vaporizer
and kill the soldiers. In the treasure chest you should find 2x Med Kit S.

Go down the ladder, and walk down the slope on the right to the remains of
a red car. Blow it up and walk past it to the south, up the raised ledge. Blow
up the door and go inside for another Med Kit.

Go back down again, and face the spiderlike drone next. If you want to make the
battle a little easier, wait until it is close to that yellow canister below,
and then blow it up. If you then run into the enemy while it is still under the
influence of the explosion, it will be severely handicapped (in this case, the
enemies will be slowed by the "Slow" field, and your own characters have a
higher chance of getting in critical hits).

Also, VERY important, try to kill enemies while the slot is in "point bonus"
(see the Battle section) as much as possible. This will give you 2, 4 or some-
times even 10 times the tech/ether/skill points that you would normally have
gotten from the kill! And since these points are in such a short supply
throughout the game, you should start gathering them as early as possible. It
might be a bit of an effort at first, but in the end it will really pay off. To
make it a little easier, equip the F-MSHOT on KOS-MOS. This will allow her to
hit all enemies at once with her subweapon (this is the only attack able to do
this, this early in the game). Note however, that the total points you get are
divided by the number of characters in your party!

Progress past the next enemy as well, and enter the building. Behind the closed
gate you will see your mission objective (the red box). You will need to find
the Mission Key to get it. Go up the stairs, if necessary blow up the red can-
nister to weaken the soldiers before fighting them. That will bring up a "Stop"
field and raise your Boost level by 1 at the start of the battle. Unfortunate-
ly, the door to the control room holding the Mission Key is locked. You will
have to go the long way around.

Instead of going through the door on the left, go south first, blowing up the
crates that are blocking your path. You will find yourself outside again. Blow
up the crate there to find a Revive. Then go back inside and into the door on
the left.

In the next area, an A.G.W.S., the first boss, will appear and you will get a
short tutorial on how to use your A.G.W.S.

You can use Shion's A.G.W.S. to kill the boss, but KOS-MOS can trash it just
as easily with her ranged attacks. Your choice. Attack once with KOS-MOS, then
end the turn so you will have 6 AP in the next turn. Because Shion is slower
in her A.G.W.S., KOS-MOS will get another turn. Use R-Cannon to do some major
damage. Shion should be able to use her A.G.W.S.'s sword to finish off the boss
in the next turn. Since this enemy gives a high amount of Tech & Skill points,
I suggest you make sure to kill it in a Point Bonus turn.
==============================

As part of the test simulation, the enemies will now be replaced by Gnosis type
enemies. Save your progress at the save point. Your HP/EP will also be re-
stored. Climb down the ladder and go south into a crowded storage room. Go
ahead and blast away at the crates, but be careful as some of them contain
enemies! Naturally, Allen warns you of this AFTER you find out. In the other
crates you should find an Ether Pack and 2x Med Kit S.

At this point you may have accumulated enough Ether points for Shion to get a
new Ether. I suggest getting Goodbye first, because this early in the game that
is the only means you have of escaping from battle. Although you should not
need it in this area of the game, you might in the next area, so get it anyway.
After that, you should go with Analyze, because that will give you access to
Ether Medica All, which is definitely a useful spell to have as early as pos-
sible. Also, do not forget to "Set" the new Ether spell, or you will not be
able to use it!

Continue further east, blow away the wreckage, and you will find Segment
Address No. 10. Walk up to it and try to open it. You cannot get in right now,
because you do not have the proper key for it yet, but its location will be
stored. You will get an item later on that will keep track of all the doors and
keys you have found. Once you have found the appropriate key, you can come back
here to get the treasure waiting inside. Some of the best items in the game are
found this way!

Go back into the previous room, climb up the ladder and go east into the con-
trol room. Get the Mission Key from the panel and blast away the cabinet in the
back to get to the door. Go down the stairs and eliminate any enemies on the
way. Before opening the gate with the Mission Key, heal up. Although the next
boss should not pose much of a problem, now would be the time to fight some
more enemies outside to level up some more. Level 3 or 4 should be enough to
take him on. Save if necessary.

Enter the unlocked room when you are ready. The Encephalon will experience some
problems, but Shion pushes on.

For this battle, Shion should use her A.G.W.S. on the first turn. Have KOS-MOS
attack once with Punch, and then end the turn to charge up her AP. On the next
turn, go all out at the boss with Punch, S-Sault and then R-Blade. This should
deal a whopping 200 damage or so. Having Shion attack the boss with her sword
should finish him up. As usual, try to kill him in a Point Bonus turn.

--| 3.1.2 - Exploring the Woglinde |-------------------------------------------
  +--------------------------------+

"Just remember, don't expect me to take you in when you're old, senile, and all
alone." --Shion Uzuki

After a long series of cinematic sequences, you find yourself in the lab. The
first thing you should do, is speak to the guy standing next to the red dive
seat to go back in. Afterall, you never did get a chance to get the contents
of that mysterious red box in the simulation! You can get some more experience
too, although you should have enough to last you through the next few fights.

Once you have entered the simulation, you will find yourself in a familiar
spot. There is a new save point at your location which you can use to exit the
simulator. Go back to the building to the north and get the contents from the
red box in the boss room: a Battle Passport which will allow you to play the
A.G.W.S. Battling minigame at any EVS save point (you will recognize these by
the EVS sign on top of the normal save point sign). You can leave the simulator
after that, since you already have all the items that were stored in this area.

At this point, you should use the save point in the lab before you go out,
since you will be walking around for quite a while. When you are ready, leave
the lab through the door on the eastern side.

In the hall before the corner, you will see a big map of the ship's layout. You
should take a good look at it so you will not get lost later on. Head south to-
wards the large hangar. While walking, you will receive a few emails. If this
is your first time playing the game, you should read them. The tutorial should
guide you through. You will receive more of these emails at specific places and
times. See the Email Section for more information.

When you enter the hangar, you will see a whole series of cinematic sequences.
After they are done, speak to the guy standing near the eastern exit. He wants
to tell you something secret. If you give him your email address, he will send
you emails with Namco advertisements throughout the game. There seems to be
an (unconfirmed) possibility that choosing 'No' here will prevent you from
receiving your first investment email, so just humor the man and choose 'Yes'.

In the next hallway, Allen will catch up with you and hand Shion the data she
forgot. She will also receive a message that her help is needed with some main-
tenance in the Realians lab. Shion will remember that she needs to get some
data from her room before going there. Just continue north through the corridor
and activate Segment Address 18 on the way. If you want to have some fun, play
with the red button in the control room next to the bulkheads after talking to
the guard standing between them. Calm indeed.

Next up is Shion's room. Get the Maintenance Data from the table. Rest up and
save if you need to. You should receive an email from Miyuki on the way out.

The northern route to the elevator is closed off for now, so you will need to
go the long way around. Head south again and then go west at the T-split. You
will end up in the Realian lab. After the cutscene, talk to all the Realians in
the lab to continue. Congratulations, you have just acquainted yourself with
the charismatic Lieutenant Virgil.

Go back into the lab to receive a special email from Vector. They need your
help to catch a hacker. Offer to help them. This well net you a 200,000 G
prize later on in the game.

In the next room, speak to Mr. Holgar (or Mr. Driller as he prefers to be cal-
led) and use the drill to remove all the obstacles on the walkway. This will
get you the Drilling Passport. You can use that at EVS points to play the
Drilling minigame. See the Drilling minigame section for more information. He
will also give you a Med Kit S as an extra, or a Med Kit if you needed more
than one try to destroy all targets.

Once you pass that spot, you will get an email about the activation of the
Database feature of the U.M.N. You can now look up terms and names in a huge
glossary, as well as data on the Gnosis you have fought. The Gnosis data is
more extensive if you used Analyze on them before, so you might want to use
Analyze on any new Gnosis you may encounter.

In the next area, you can go into the first room on your left for a save point
and a guy who really needs to brush up on his sayings. The second room is lock-
ed for now, as the guy standing next to it lost his key! A little further down
the hall, go west into a lounge area and you will get another email from Miyuki
that asks you to participate in a secret project. Reply positively, as this
will get you KOS-MOS's strongest subweapon, the F-SCYTHE later in the game.

Proceed to the next area where Sergeant Swaine will tell you all about the
Segment Addresses and the Decoder Keys. He will also hand you a useful item,
the Segment File, that you can use to keep track of the Addresses and Keys that
you have found. Segment Address 7 is right next to him. If you go east, you
will get an email with an advertisement for Ninja Assault (if you gave the guy
in the hangar your email address).

Although it is possible to go north to the A.G.W.S. hangar now, you should go
to the bridge first. Head east and take the elevator to the bridge. A cutscene
with the bridge crew will appear.

As you leave the bridge, you will receive another email from Miyuki. Download
the plugin to help out with the testing. You will reap the fruits of this much
later.

Before going back to your room, it is time to explore the rest of the Woglinde.
You will receive a message to come pick up a package in the hangar, so your
next destination is set. Leave through the western exit and head north. You
will come across two A.G.W.S. pilots who want to play a game of tag with you.
Play along and evade them by running around the block to the north and back to
the south. Remember this for later, it will come in handy. You will also get a
Med Kit for your trouble.

Head northwest to the A.G.W.S. hangar. Ignore the treasure box near the entran-
ce for now. You cannot get it until later. Speak to the guy at the desk on the
left to receive your package: an actual M.W.S.! You can talk to the engineer on
the right to buy some items. Make sure you leave at least 500 G in your account
for an investment opportunity that will come up shortly. In the back of the
hangar is a guy who will let you fight a simulated battle against a Drone SPX.
This is a good place to get lots of Tech and Skill points if you keep fighting
without your A.G.W.S. (since you cannot heal it yet, but Shion on the other
hand will get her HP restored afterwards).

Shion will complain about being tired, so it is time to head back. Take the
long way around by leaving through the eastern exit past the airlock. You will
come across Segment Address 16 on the way. Also note the small command center
located here. You will come back here later. There is a save point in there,
but you can ignore that for now.

Go further south and you will pass a holographic show. The button on the right
switches it on and off. Remember this. Walk past the left side of the holo-
graphic plant display to the south to get another email. Invest 500 G in a
company of your choice to get the following later on:

Hasegawa Biochemical: 5x Med Kit S + 10% discount (??)
Vector-Tenan Pharmaceuticals: 5x Ether Pack S + 10% discount (??)
Dawson Pharmaceuticals: 5x Revive + 10% discount (??)

NOTE: I still need to try all three options. If anyone who has tried the other
two options could tell me what the results are, that will help a lot.
Supposedly, choosing Vector here will ensure that you get the F-BSHOT
much sooner. Can someone confirm this?

Continue south, around the corner and back into the elevator room. You can now
use the door to the south to reach the corridor to your room. If you want, you
can go back to the KOS-MOS lab to get another Namco advertisement email by wal-
king along the left wall of the lab, but since it is fairly useless, you might
just as well go to your room.

You will see a few cutscenes when you enter your room. Save the game before you
go to sleep.

  +---------------------------+
--| 3.1.3 - The Gnosis Attack |------------------------------------------------
  +---------------------------+

"Shion. You forget, I am not human. I am merely a weapon." --KOS-MOS

As you wake up, all hell is breaking loose. Not only is KOS-MOS about to wake
up by herself, but the Gnosis have appeared and are attacking the ship! Because
of their trans-dimensional property, the Gnosis have immaterial bodies and are
invulnerable to normal weapons.

Find out for yourself by approaching the first Gnosis and attack it. Shion will
notice that it is completely useless and escapes. Because you cannot attack the
Gnosis with normal weapons at this point, you will have to sneak by them. Do
NOT get into a fight with them, because they will kill you with a single hit,
meaning instant game over! If you are lucky, you might be able to escape from
them with the Ether Goodbye or with Escape Packs.

To slip past the Gnosis in the elevator room, you can only go east. As luck has
it, the second Gnosis notices you however and pursues. Run past the bulkhead
and press the button on the other side to close it just before the Gnosis
reaches you.

Continue on and you will encounter another Gnosis. To evade this one, quickly
run to the right and press the button on the panel to switch the holograms on.
That should distract the Gnosis long enough for you to get past him.

You will encounter another Gnosis just beyond Cherenkov's little control room.
It will follow you quickly, so the best way to evade it is to hide in the con-
trol room until it passes by. Save here if you deem it necessary.

When you leave the room, you will see a cool cinematic of KOS-MOS waking up.
After that, head past the Segment Address to the northwest. There will be
another Gnosis blocking the way. Climb the ladder and press the button to solve
that particular problem.

Now head south. Or try to anyway. A car is blocking the way, and the pilot
nearby tells you to get the Vaporizer Plug-in from the A.G.W.S. Hangar to get
past it. So head northwest to the hangar and talk to the mechanic that sold you
items earlier. He will give you the Vaporizer.

Use the Vaporizer with the Square button to blow up the crates and the panel in
the back of the hangar. You should get 2x Frame Repair A, an Escape Pack and 2x
Frame Repair Z.

Go back outside. Walk to the western side of the Gnoses and lure one of them to
the chest you are standing behind. This will cause it to destroy it. Then run
back to the northern side and lure the two Gnoses into the yellow fences. They
will be trapped in their position, which will let you grab 200G from the crate
and 2x Veil from the chest.

Head east to the big crate blocking the ladder. Blow it up, climb up and blow
up the two small crates to get a Revive DX and 200 G. Now head south and blow
up the car. You will encounter two more Gnoses that will immediately pursue
you, Use the trick you learned earlier in the tag game to shake them off. If
you forgot, it means run around that big block in the back while they follow
you.

You will encounter a dying Sergeant Swain. Looks like he needs a successor for
his legacy. Will you take it upon you to find all the remaining Segment
Addresses?! Of course you will. As a gift to remember him by, he will give you
the Decoder Key to Segment Address 7 (the one next to his body). Open the door
to find your first reward: the Robot Part Right Arm. You will find out much
later what exactly this is for.

Go back outside, destroy the object in the middle of the corridor to the left
for a Bio Sphere. You can also destroy the plant in the upper left for an Ether
Pack. Now go through the door to the south. You will meet that nice Lieutenant
Virgil again. After some more cutscenes, get the Crewman's Key from the dead
body, and use it to open the door right next to him. In his room you will find
an SMP53AG, a missile pod for your A.G.W.S. Save in the next room.

Also, if you have enough Tech Points to do so, you should upgrade Lightning
Blast and Spell Ray's speed to HI so you can put them in a fast slot. If you
have more Tech points to spare, spend some on leveling up Spell Ray. Although
you could upgrade Lightning Blast as well, Shion's Physical Attack power is too
low to make it worth it in the long run. On the other hand, you will need it in
the next fight because that boss counters Ether attacks. Decide for yourself
whether you should do it or not.

Continue south and you will see a whole series of cutscenes. Now you will be
glad that you saved your game, because you will definitely want to see that
last cinematic again ;)

Once the cutscenes are all over with, you will be facing another boss.

==============================
BOSS 03: Cyclops
HP: 560
EXP: 560
TPoints: 30
EPoints: 16
SPoints: 24
Money: 800
Weakness: Thunder
Item: SMG99AG
Rare item: -

Because this boss counters all ether attacks, make sure you attack with physi-
cal attacks only. Knuckle, Power Kick and Lightning Blast for Shion, Punch,
S-Sault and R-Blade for KOS-MOS and Rush for Virgil. As usual, try to kill the
boss in the Points Bonus turn. He should not pose much of a problem if you do
not use ether attacks.
==============================

After the battle, you will finally be able to fight with the Gnosis properly!
Now is the right time to get the items you missed out on before. Head east and
then north, fighting any Gnoses along the way. Make sure to blow up the canis-
ters before fighting them if you need an advantage.

Also, you should equip the SMP53AG on Shion's VX-10000's shoulder and the
SMG99AG instead of the sword, because you will now be able to use the handy
W-ACT ability if your A.G.W.S. has 6 AP. You will learn to love it ;)

Use the red button in the control room to open the bulkheads so you have
access to Shion's room. Use the opportunity to rest up and save. Back in the
corridor, blow up the object in the middle for a Bio Sphere. Head further
north past the fire.

In the elevator room, blow up the object in the center for 2x Revive. Head east
past the bulkheads. Get a Med Kit S and an Ether Pack S by destroying the ob-
jects next to the hologram control panel.

Enter the control room to the north, blow up the glass protection screen and
fight the Gnosis. Pick up Decoder Key 18 from the treasure chest afterwards.
Save if you want to. Now that you have the Decoder, you can either continue
northwest for a full circle to get any items you might have missed earlier, or
backtrack to your quarters to open Segment Address 18 where you will find a
Coat-Lightning. The long way around is a good idea if you are still a bit low
on levels. Stock up on some healing items in the A.G.W.S. hangar if you need
them. Also, try to get KOS-MOS's R-Cannon Tech Attack to HI speed, because you
will need it in the next boss fight.

Once you have the Coat-Lightning from Segment Address 18, equip it on KOS-MOS.
Save in Shion's room and go south. Go past the three Gnoses eating the A.G.W.S.
or fight them if you want. Further down, use the red canister to weaken the
Gnosis. On the left, destroy the crates to find 2x Escape Pack. Further south,
go onto the platform and lure the Gnosis to the red canister if you wish. The
panels further south contain 3 Revives total, so make sure you get them. When
you are ready, go through the door for another cutscene and a boss fight.

==============================
BOSS 04: Minotaur + Sky Fish 2x

Money: 0 0
Weakness: Beam Pierce
Item: Skl Upg S Escape Pack
Rare item: Skl Upg Z -

For this boss fight, fall back on Shion's Spell Ray and KOS-MOS' R-Cannon. Be-
cause all enemies are flying, you cannot use near attacks. Use Spell Ray to
take out one of the Sky Fishes, and damage the second one. Finish off the se-
cond one with KOS-MOS after Shion has had a chance to enter her A.G.W.S. As
soon as both Sky Fishes are dead, the Minotaur will start doing a Gravity
Pulse (?) attack every other turn that can do between 50-110 damage to your
characters. Finish him off quickly with W-ACT and R-Cannon.
==============================

After the boss fight, there will be some more cutscenes. Eventually, you will
be asked whether you wish to save. Do so.

There will be a series of cutscenes where the party gets picked up by the
freighter "Elsa". You will also get to meet the crew, including grouchy Captain
Matthews, dorky Hammer, ladies' man Tony and the mysterious chaos. After that,
you will be asked to save again. Do so. That ends this part of the story.

  +------------------------+
--| 3.2 - Asteroid Pleroma |---------------------------------------------------
  +------------------------+

This part of the game focuses on the battle cyborg Ziggurat 8 and his mission
to rescue the Realian MOMO from the clutches of the evil U-TIC organization.

  +------------------------+
--| 3.2.1 - Rescue Mission |---------------------------------------------------
  +------------------------+

"I know! How about I call you Ziggy instead?" --MOMO

The next chapter starts with an introduction to the ambitious and evil
Margulis, as well as the Federation Council. You will also meet Ziggurat 8 and
the cute child-Realian MOMO whom he needs to rescue. Ziggurat 8 soon after
infiltrates the U-TIC Asteroid base. That is where the next part of the game
begins.

Walk up the ramp in the back, avoiding the guards as much as possible (thank-
fully, you are invisible). On the right, blow up the crates to get a Scope and
2x Ether Upgrade S. Head to the ramp and Ziggurat 8 will place some explosive
charges. Unfortunately as soon as he heads in, his invisibily module fails.
After a flashback, it is your turn again.

The first thing you should do is use the an Ether Upgrade S item so you can
learn the Recharge ether. This will let you heal yourself (definitely no
luxury until you get MOMO).

Since you will want to save up your healing items as much as possible at this
point, avoid detection by sneaking around using the R2 button. To determine
the walking patterns of the guards, you can sneak up the stairs in the back to
take an overhead look at the area. Use this knowledge to get past them. The
treasure chest (T) you can see from here, you cannot get from this point.

The best way to get past them is to sneak behind (2) the guard patrolling the
first block as he goes east, then as soon as he turns south (3), head southeast
towards the bottom of the second block (4). This should keep you from being no-
ticed by the guard coming around the corner. Unfortunately, the stretch to the
east is too long to walk before the guard catches up, so wait for him to pass
just behind the corner (5). Then follow him until he goes north around the cor-
ner (6), and continue on (7) to the back of the easternmost wall (8). Stop
there for a bit or you might walk straight into the guards of the second area.

IMPORTANT: Do not move even an INCH without holding the R2 button while you are
on the tiled floor, as the guards will easily hear you!

======================================

From your starting position (1), first walk north and destroy the two walls
(WW). This will lead to a secret stairway to the treasure chest from Area 1,
which contains a Snake Hunter. The wall behind it is the location of Segment
Address 4. You will find the Decoder Key for this later in this level. Go back
to the starting position (1) and destroy the other wall (W) for 2x Revive.

Now move behind the guard (3) patrolling block A, and from there on go straight
past block C (4) to block E (5). Go on past block H (6) to the end (7). It all
seems much harder than it actually is.

Continue past the church-like area. In the next area you will encounter an
A.G.W.S. To get past it, operate the crane with the nearby controls to draw
its attention away from the ladder. Go through the door.

You will see another cutscene and then end up fighting MOMO's guards. Now you
need to find the key to her cell. Use the exit at the lower left. It will lead
you to the bottom of the previous room. Follow the crab-like robot with R2 and
do not draw its attention. Go through the door in the lower right part of the
room.

On the left you will find 6 crates. All of them contain items, except the one
at the bottom-left, which contains one of the crab-like robots. If you want to
fight it, you can lure it to the yellow canister for an advantage during battle
or you can just take it straight on. You can use the experience at this point,
so go ahead and kill it, since you need to heal up for the next fight anyway.
The crates should give you an Ether Pack S, a Bio Sphere, 100 G, a Med Kit S
and a Revive.

Go to the room to the right. The key is here, but a boss is guarding it. Heal
up and walk up to it.

Rare item: - -

For this fight, stick to your ether attacks only. Keep using Laser Blade/Swing
to take out the Gardis F10 units that keep popping up. They will get you some
extra needed Tech/Skill points. When there are none present, use your Laser
Blade against the Gardis M1 and keep killing any F10 units that pop up. Try
to keep your AP at 6 so that you can use Ziggurat 8's subweapon to hit all
enemies if you happen to get a Bonus Points turn. The enemy's Mental Incapa-
citator attack should not pose a problem, since it will be almost dead by the
time it is used. You should be able to get between 25-150 Tech Points if you
get lucky.
==============================

Get the Master Key from the chest and sneak past the crabs to get back to
MOMO's cell. Open up all three cells to get a Speed Stim, a save point and MOMO
added to your party. Use your Ether points to get the Bodyguard spell and put
MOMO directly behind Ziggurat 8 in the Battle Formation. This will allow him to
use Bodugard to increase his Physical Attack and Defense. Save before you head
out through the door on the upper left.

You can now either fight the A.G.W.S. for the Decoder 4, or leave it alone and
fight it in the EVS simulator later in the game. Although fighting it is not
easy at this point, it is definitely worth it.

hits. Have Ziggurat 8 guard one turn, then have him use Bodyguard to boost his
Attack and Defense. On his next turn, hit the enemy with Lightning Fist. Then
have MOMO cast Sheep Beam on him again. Repeat the cycle again and again,
using HP and EP items whenever necessary. Use Bodyguard again if it wears out.
When the enemy does its Absolute Defense skill, you will have to attack it once
doing 0 damage, and it will automatically counter attack you. Bear with it, and
just put it to sleep again in the next turn.
==============================

Although it takes a while, taking this boss out should not be a problem. Go
back to the save point to heal up and save. Then go out through the door on the
lower left.

Head down the stairs and follow the soldier around to get to the treasure chest
you revealed earlier for 2x Veil. Now follow the crab again (or fight it) to
reach the door at the lower right. You will be followed, so hide in the Moni-
toring Room until the guards leave. MOMO decides to call Ziggurat 8 "Ziggy"
from now on. Use the button in the room to open up an escape route in the
corridor.

Go to the door you just unlocked and climb down the ladder. You will be pursued
now, so keep running. Avoid the mud as it will really slow you down. Just keep
moving and go around any obstacles you come across. You will come across a door
in the northern wall. Blow up the container next to it for a Med Kit, then head
inside. You will end up in the church-like room from before. Open the chest for
an Ether Upgrade Z. You can also get 2x Ether Pack and an Ether Pack S from the
pedestals to the left and right of the altar.

Go back to the tunnel and head left again. Destroy the nearby canister for a
"Revive". When you get to the pipes, walk across them slowly (use R2) so you do
not fall off. Continue going left, destroying a canister with an Ether Pack S
on the way. Before you go up the ladder, heal up for a (not too difficult) boss
fight. Then go up.

You will see some cutscenes and enter a fight with 3 A.G.W.S. units.

==============================
BOSS 06: Zolfo Mercurio x2
HP: 820 ?
EXP: 200 ?
TPoints: 22 ?
EPoints: 50 ?
SPoints: 16 ?
Money: 200 ?
Weakness: - - (Sheep Beam ;)
Item: - -
Rare item: - -

Although this fight might seem insanely hard, this is one of those battles in
which MOMO can show her potential. You can use the very useful Sheep Beam to
put the two Mercurio units to sleep. The amusing thing is, that the Zolfo will
shoot them to wake them up after a few turns, doing around 150 damage. This way
you can quickly get both of them down to around 150 HP or so, after which Ziggy
can finish them with a Lightning Fist. Just use Lightning Fist to finish off
the Zolfo. Also, remember NOT to attack when the enemy is guarding, because
they will counterattack!
==============================

After the fight, blow up the truck and the two crates in the back for 2x Bio
Sphere and 8x Medi Kit S. Now proceed to the door in the back and save in the
U-TIC control room.

If you got the Decoder 4 earlier, proceed east past the guards to the archway,
and use the secret entrance in the wall that you uncovered earlier to get to
Segment Address 4. You will get the very useful Thief Ring.

If Ziggy has somewhere between 160-200 Tech Points, fight a few more battles so
you can put his Cyber Kick in a Fast slot. That will make the boss fight a lot
easier.

Also, if you are strong enough, need the experience or just feel lucky, go into
area 2 of the hallway and blow up the statue in the center (the one that all
the soldiers are patrolling around). The chest that appears afterwards contains
Decoder 11.

Now go back to the control room, heal up completely, save and then head back
out, slipping past the guards to the west and back to the dock. Where you will
meet the next boss...

==============================
BOSS 07: Margulis
HP: 820
EXP: 2400
TPoints: 58
EPoints: 60
SPoints: 26
Money: 3000
Weakness: Changes during battle
Item: Purple Ring
Rare item: Red Ring

Make sure that MOMO is directly behind Ziggy during this fight. This will pre-
vent Ziggy from being pushed into the back row. During this battle, have MOMO
do nothing but guard and heal. Ziggy should use Bodyguard whenever necessary to
boost his Attack and Defense. In the meantime, have Ziggy repeatedly Guard and
then use Cyber Kick, or if you were able to put Cyber Kick in a Fast slot, have
him use Cyber Kick every turn. The only exception is during turns where
Margulis uses the Spirit Rain ethers. They will absorb the Cyber Kick damage,
so guard or heal instead.
If you have Ziggy at about level 8 with Cyber Kick in the Fast slot, you most
likely will not even need to use a single item to win this battle. And if you
equipped the Thief Ring from before, there is a good chance that you will
receive the Red Ring instead of the plain Purple Ring.
==============================

After the boss fight, Ziggy and MOMO will flee using a spaceship. With several
ships in pursuit, they disappear into hyperspace, ending this part of the
story...

  +------------------------+

This part of the game focuses on the background of the characters, meeting up
with Ziggy and MOMO in space, and some new unanswered mysteries.

  +------------------------------------+
--| Section 3.3.1 - Exploring the Elsa |---------------------------------------
  +------------------------------------+

"So... we finally meet. Now, where does the real you exist?" --chaos

After the cutscene of the whole Elsa crew eating dinner in the restaurant, and
some discussions between Shion and Allen, you find yourself with a plate of hot
food, looking for Commander Cherenkov who did not show up for dinner.

As you leave the kitchen, you will receive an email telling you about the EVS
Plu-in. You can now use the simulator any EVS savepoint to revisit previous
levels.

Go along the right side of the passenger cabins and you will receive an email
telling you about the success of the company you invested in during your stay
on the Woglinde. Depending on whom you invested in, your reward will vary. See
the Email Section for details. Regardless, you will always get a 10% discount
on items! Do not forget to download the attachment, or you will not get the
actual items.

Head to the southern exit into the restaurant. Talk to the robot to get the
Card Passport, which will allow you to play the Xenocard minigame at any EVS
point. Go back to the passenger cabins and enter the bottom one. Look around
on the couch for a Disarm Key which you will need later.

Now go all the way north to the exit of the passenger cabins area. To the west
you will find an airlock, to the north is the bridge, and to the east is a save
point with a U.M.N. Shop. You can use that to shop anytime you need to. Use the
save point.

Use the elevator near the passenger cabins to go to level B1 and view some cut-
scenes.

Shion will arrive on level B1 of the Elsa. There are a lot of items to be found
hidden underneath destroyable objects, so blast around to your heart's content.
There's an Ether Pack behind the wall panel directly north of the elevator.
Continue east past the cargo door, and you should receive another email, de-
tailing the continued search for the hacker (assuming you agreet to help out in
a previous email).

At the T-split, continue south through the narrow passage, and blast the panels
on the western wall. A secret passage will be revealed, which leads to a number
of crates containing an Ether Upgrade A and 50G. Return to the large room and
go down the stairs to the southeast. Destroy the crates for 150 and 200 G.

chaos can be found in the next room. Talk to him if you wish for some informa-
tion on Cherenkov's whereabouts. Save here if you wish, then leave through the
southern exit.

Go down the small elevator to arrive in the A.G.W.S. hangar of the Elsa. Exit
through the southern door and go down the stairs to the southern tip of the
room. Open the chest here to discover a Coat-Beam. Now return to the hangar and
talk to the robot at the northern wall to upgrade Shion's A.G.W.S.

Upgrade the frame and generator of the A.G.W.S. You should also get some new
weapons for your A.G.W.S. since you will probably be using it in the next boss
fight. If the weapon is W-ACT supporting, make sure to always buy two of them,
so that you can use the W-ACT ability during battle. The best idea is probably
to get 2x SMG32VX for Shion's VX-10000, because the beam rifles' strength are
based on the pilot's EATK, which most likely is not that great yet for Shion
at this point in the game. You may also want to get a missile pod or beam pod
if you do not have one yet. Try not to spend all your gold if you do not have
to. Keep about 1000 G in reserve for another of those investment emails. Or
you can go back into the simulator to earn some more gold.

When you are done, take the left elevator to go to KOS-MOS' room and initiate
some more cutscenes.

Once you regain control, exit the room. Captain Matthews will ask you to come
to the bridge through the ship's intercom. Before you go there however, there
are a few more things to do.

In the hangar, talk to Tony who appears to be looking for something. Offer to
help him out by finding the Hazardous Area Map. Take the right elevator, and
go through the northern exit. Time for some more blasting.

First blow up the panels on the western wall to find Segment Door 8. Then use
the Disarm Key that you found earlier to operate the Slide Deck. Go west into
the next room and blow up the crates to find a Spirit Pendant, 50 G and a Bio
Sphere. Open the chest to get Decoder 10.

Go back up and blow up the crate near the eastern wall for 200 G. Go northwest
and blow up the crates for 5x Ether Upgrade A, a Med Kit and a Bio Sphere. Now
go further north, along the eastern wall, past the door and then west. Go down
the stairs to find yourself at the Catapult Deck.

Go a bit north and destroy the first wall panel on the western wall to reveal
Segment Address 14. Destroy the rest of the panels on both walls for a Fiber
Suit, 150 G, an Ether Upgrade S and 100 G. Now leave the Catapult Deck, back up
the stairs and enter the door to the east that you passed by earlier.

Climb up the ladder and blow up the crates to find 2x Ether Upgrade S and a Med
Kit. The big crate near the door contains another Med Kit. Now leave through
that door and head back to the main deck. Go into the cabin at the bottom and
approach the northern side of the table to get an email with an advertisement
for Shion. Then go outside again and enter the Dining Hall to receive another
Namco advertisement.

NOTE: I at this point got a Tekken 4 ad, disguised as a letter from Kazuya. On
the other hands, some people have mentioned receiving a letter from
Klonoa instead. There is a possibility that the contents of this email
is selected from a number of Namco games.

Go north to the save point and save your game. Buy some items from the U.M.N.
shop if you need to. As you might have noticed, the save point now has the EVS
sign on it. This means that you can use the Simulator option in the U.M.N.
screen at this save point to visit previous areas. This is usually the only way
for you to level your characters up some more, or get extra gold. If you do not
have 1000 G at this point, go into the simulator and defeat enemies until you
do. Note however that Gnosis enemies almost never carry gold, so your best bet
is to go to Pleroma. You may want to use the skill Poison Guard so the Poison
does not kill you.

You may also want to go back to the KOS-MOS simulator to open Segment Address
10 now that you have the Decoder for it. Enter the building to the north, go up
the stairs, through the control room which is now unlocked. Then go down the
ladder, south into the large room, and then east, behind the crates. You will
get 2x Booster Pack.

NOTE: It seems that there may be a bug when it comes to the contents of the
chest behind Segment Address No. 10. The chest is SUPPOSED to contain
a Boost Pack (accessory), but instead it contains 2x Booster Pack
(item). Has someone else had this problem? Note however, that a boss
later in the game has the Boost Pack as well, so you can still get it.

When you have 1000 G, go to the bridge for another cutscene. After that, talk
to Captain Matthews to receive the Hazardous Area Map. Leave the bridge and go
to the save area. You will receive another investment email. Invest in Venture
Links for the best result. See the Email section for more details.

Go down the elevator to the lower floor, then past the cargo elevator to the
T-split. Go south here, down the stairs and to the A.G.W.S. Hangar to return
the Hazardous Area Map to Tony for a reward: a Med Kit DX. Now go up the ele-
vator again, and exit through the northern door, then walk all the way to the
door in the northwest, down the stairs and onto the Catapult Deck. Go all the
way to the northern end and check the machinery there.

After another cutscene, leave the Catapult Deck. You will receive another email
if you accepted the hacker case on the Woglinde. The second email you get will
give you three choices where the hacker may be hiding out. The correct choice
here is the Cargo ship. Reply to the email with the answer. Then head back to
the bridge. You may want to save before going in because you will get to see a
large number of cutscenes again.

--| 3.3.2 - Attack in Hyperspace |---------------------------------------------
  +------------------------------+

"I'm built a lot tougher than I look." --MOMO

Once you regain control, it is time to meet up with Ziggy and MOMO. Exit the
bridge and save if you want to. You may want to get KOS-MOS's D-UNIT V2 armor
from the U.M.N. shop if you want to use her against the boss. You might also
want to bring an extra Fiber Suit for MOMO if you plan to user her.

If you need some extra money, use the EVS to go through the Pleroma level again
with your current characters. Since only human and some mechanical enemies give
you gold, that is the only accessible level to do right now. If you need some
extra Tech/Ether/Skill points, go do either the Woglinde or the KOS-MOS simula-
tor for now. Another thing that will help out considerably, is to have Shion
transfer Medica and Medica All (if she has it) to KOS-MOS. Because of her
higher Ether ability, KOS-MOS will heal far more hit points than Shion will.
When you're done, you can rest up in the passenger cabin. Go down the elevator.

The nice thing about this part is that all the crates in the Elsa have been re-
stocked with items, so blast away to your heart's content! The wallpanel next
to the elevator contains an Ether Pack. At the T-split, your main character
will activate the floor defenses. To get further down into the Elsa, you will
have to use the northern entrance. Blast the first crate you encounter for an
Ether Pack. The other crates contain a Bio Sphere and an Escape Pack.

Now go down the ladder and exit the room. The action will shift back to Ziggy
and MOMO. If you have enough Tech Points, make sure to put a Tech Attack in
MOMO's Fast slot so she can be more helpful during the fighting. The mechanical
enemies here can give you lots of Tech/Ether/Skill points, so if you can handle
them, take them head on. The wall panels on the Catapult Deck contain: an
Antidote, 5x Skill Upgrade A, an Ether Upgrade S and an Ether Upgrade A. The
two crates at the bottom contain an Ether Upgrade S and an Antidote.

Exit the Catapult Deck and go up the stairs where you will meet up with the
others. You now have to choose 3 characters to make up your party. At this
point you can choose whomever you want to. They should all be strong enough to
get past the enemies here without too much problems. Go south and then west
around the corner. Blow up the crates for a Skill Upgrade S, a Frame Repair A
and an Antidote. On the right side of the Slide Deck platform is a Bio Sphere
hidden in the crate. Go to the western stairs and blow up all the crates there.
You should find a Frame Repair A, an Ether Pack, an Antidote and a Med Kit S.

Go south into the familiar save room. If you need some more experience or
points, you can use the eastern door to go to the area where the floor has been
magnetized. You will be severely slowed here, but so will the enemies. You can
fight or evade them. In the crates at the bottom east, near the stairs, you
will find an Escape Pack and 2x Skill Upgrade A. The crate at the top of the
stairs contains a Med Kit S. The panel on the western wall hides an Escape Pack
and the crates at the end of the hidden passage, contain an Ether Upgrade S and
an Escape Pack. Once you have taken care of this, go back to the save room,
heal up if necessary and save (IMPORTANT!).

Go through the A.G.W.S. hangar, take out the enemies if you want. On the
western wall, behind the A.G.W.S. pods, are a number of crates. One of them
contains 5x Ether Upgrade A. Now go through the southern door. You will see the
next boss. Now decide on your boss fighting party. Unless your characters have
lots of health, it is adviseable to have two A.G.W.S. pilots in your party,
together with either Ziggy or KOS-MOS. Ziggy can take more damage, but
KOS-MOS's R-Cannon does more damage to the boss. As for the pilots, Shion and
chaos are a good choice, although you can have MOMO pilot one of the two
A.G.W.S. units too. When you have decided, restore some FHP on your A.G.W.S.
units if necessary, and walk to the boss to begin the fight.

BOSS 08: DOMO Carrier
HP: 1800
EXP: 4500

EPoints: 20
SPoints: 40
Money: 0
Weakness: Thunder
Item: Anti-Beam Armor
Rare item: -

In the first turn of the boss, it will analyze the current event slot. It will
lock its strong "Tremor P" Attack to this slot, meaning that if it ever gets a
turn in that particular event slot type, it will do that attack. If you have
3 or more turns before the DOMO Carrier and it becomes apparent that it will
either get the Critical Attack Up or Boost Gauge Rate Up slot, you can use a
Booster Pack (the ones you found in the KOS-MOS Simulator behind Segment
Address 10) to boost your character into the boss's turn. Most likely this will
not happen however, unless you have MOMO and no Ziggy in your party, so you
have to depend on luck. If the boss analyzes either of those slots, it would
probably be wise to reload your last save.
Once the boss has analyzed the slot and you can continue, have the two pilots
get into their A.G.W.S. units (do Guard and then W-ACT for the best damage
results). The remaining character (Ziggy or KOS-MOS) should heal and attack
using Lightning Fist or R-Cannon respectively. If possible, use Boost to pre-
vent the boss from getting his "Tremor P" event slot. And if you want to try
finishing him off in a Point Bonus slot, save at least one boost.
Unfortunately, once you damage the boss enough to have less than 900 HP, he
will soon after begin healing himself for 600 HP each turn. Try to kill it be-
fore that happens. If he does, save up your W-ACTs to use them both in one turn
to kill him. Because after healing about 3 teams, he will self destruct. This
will damage your character somewhat, but for less than 100 damage, so you
should survive if you are not too heavily damaged, and you will still get your
experience.
==============================

After the battle, everyone will relax a little in the restaurant. Captain
Matthews suggests that Shion should give MOMO and Ziggy a tour of the ship.
First, go to the kitchen for a little scene, then to the passenger cabin. Do
not go to sleep yet. Instead, go to the other cabin, then the bridge. After
that, take the elevator to level B1. Head to the save room. If you go north
in the room, you will get another email with the dividend from your last
investment. If you invested in Venture Link like suggested, you should get
4000 G and a 10% discount on A.G.W.S. weapons. See the Email Section for the
other rewards.

Now go to the A.G.W.S. hangar, KOS-MOS's room, and the room where you fought
the DOMO Carrier for some more scenes. Then go all the way over to the Catapult
Deck for one more scene. Go to the control panel that Shion checked out earlier
for Captain Matthews for another one of those investment emails. Invest in
Vector for the best results.

Now that you have shown them around, return to the passenger cabin and go to
sleep. You will be asked to save. Do so.
