So What's New?
--------------
- 0.50 -- 03/10/03
- Added in more FAQs. Moved them to the top of this document, since
it seems most people can't be bothered to scroll down to read 'em.
- Completed through Chapter 4 of the Walkthrough. The Distilled
Georama should follow in the next day or two.
- Answered a bunch of e-mail. Altered the e-mail rules. If you've
e-mailed me and I haven't responded yet, and your question ISN'T
answered below or you haven't been sent a scathing e-mail by me for
exhibiting an inability to read this guide BEFORE you send said
e-mail, resend it. A lot of e-mails slipped through the cracks, and
I'm really sorry about that. :/

E-mail Rules/Translation Notes/Guide Notes -
AKA - the stuff no one ever reads unless they're really bored.
############################################################################
To maximize the odds of people actually heeding this request, I'm putting
this first off. If you want to e-mail me, do so at elainenara@yahoo.com
with Dark Cloud 2, Dark Chronicle, or some other derivation thereof in the
subject line so I know you're not trying to sell me porn or something.
Also, please demonstrate that you've at least read the guide before you
send me an e-mail begging for assistance.
I have moved up the FAQs - people have frequently asked me these questions
over and over, and I'm tired of reanswering them - it cuts into time I
could be enhancing the guide. After this, answers will no longer be
entertained to those questions unless you can demonstrate that my answer to
said question is insufficient. If you don't get a response from me, the
answer is probably already in the FAQ.
Since this guide is presently only up through Chapter 3, I will gladly do
my best to answer your questions (from memory) for any section afterwards,
as long they AREN'T in the Frequently Asked Questions below. I have
answered a couple of the tricky questions for later areas of the game in
the FAQ section, so it probably wouldn't hurt to check out that space down
there for additional advice. Questions on pictures are happily accepted,
especially as I'm still writing them all up <grumble>.
Do not ask me for a guide on a specific area of the game outside of
walkthrough type questions (read: on Inventions) if you don't see it here.
If it's not in the guide right now, it's not ready. I am not withholding
information from you folks for the sake of withholding information. I'm
not that cruel.
This guide is based on the Japanese version of Dark Cloud 2, Dark
Chronicle. Your mileage may vary, but considering the short turnaround
time on this game, the game versions should stay pretty much the same save
for tweaking and updating of signs. (They didn't screw up the voice
acting! HALLELUJAH!) I am slowly updating names for the U.S. version, but
for now please do NOT e-mail me about them if you see discrepancies! I
have friends who will be helping me out with that task.
The one exception to the mass U.S name updating is that the main character,
Maximillian, will be referred to as Yuris throughout this guide. Why? His
name is Yuris in Japan, and after knowing him as Yuris for forever, I am
too lazy to change my way of thinking to start calling him Max. Deal with
it. If you don't like it, write your own guide. :P
Wherever I could, I've attempted to match up my translations for item names
to translations used in the original English version of Dark Cloud. If an
item shows up with a different name than from Dark Cloud in those cases in
the Region 1 (American) version -- blame Sony. I have tried to be
consistent in naming standards within a given series. It's not my fault if
Sony doesn't follow suit!
For character names, attempting that trick was definitely unfeasible, since
(almost) all the characters in Dark Chronicle are brand new. What I have
done for those cases is look at the katakana and put down all of my best
guesses for possible anglicizations, so that I hopefully manage to nail it
SOMEHOW. Nonetheless, Sony's translation team has changed some of the
names significantly from those originals, and I swear they did it just to
make my life difficult. To help alleviate that, I've done my best to
describe the character's appearance/location as best as possible.
I have tried to avoid spoilers as much as possible. For that reason, names
of various personages may be deliberately obscured/ made misleading, and
descriptions of cutscenes have been totally deleted wherever it was
feasible to do so.
I have encoded this FAQ in Shift-JIS format, so that I can show you the
original Japanese for names and suchlike. To read the Japanese properly,
you will need to have Japanese language support for your browser. Since
this is a text document as opposed to HTML, you will need to force the
browser to recognize it. (For IE -- Go to view, then Encoding, then select
Japanese Shift-JIS; for Netscape 7.0 and above, go to View, Character
Coding, then select Japanese Shift-JIS.)
If you're playing Dark Chronicle without knowledge of katakana/hiragana,
you're absolutely crazy. This is an action *RPG*; it behooves you to
actually be able to read some of the text! Again, all translations/
spellings of the names are my own, unless noted otherwise, and may not be
the same for the Region 1 release of Dark Cloud 2.

| 1 | Miscellaneous Information about the Dark Cloud series |
\___/___________________________________________________________________/
Dark Chronicle is the second game in the Dark Cloud series, programmed by
Level 5 and published by Sony. Its predecessor in the series, Dark Cloud,
is widely regarded by most to be the first RPG (even though it should
properly be labeled as an action RPG) for the Sony Playstation 2 in the
United States. Dark Chronicle's sales as of the initial release of this
FAQ were over 200,000 units - a solid commercial success by anyone's
standard in Japan. It was originally released in Japan on November 28th,
2002, and was released in the United States as Dark Cloud 2 on February
19th, 2003.
The defining features of the Dark Cloud series are:
1) Combat. A trademark of the Dark Cloud series is the ability to switch
between multiple characters. While you only control one character at a
time, you get to push buttons and whack on enemies (hence the 'action'
element of this RPG series).
Unlike Dark Cloud, which had six characters you can fight with, this time
you have really only three - Yuris, the main hero; Monica, the main
heroine; and Steve the Ridepod. Each of them has multiple attacks, unlike
the original Dark Cloud where your character only had one type of attack.
Yuris and Monica both have a regular attack and a ranged attack (Wrench/Gun
and Sword/Magic respectively). Ridepod, Yuris's robot, only has one weapon
available to it at a time without diving into the item menu, but it is
EXTREMELY customizeable in its weaponry. Additionally, Monica also gains
the ability to transform into other monsters through the use of special
badges during Chapter 2.
2) Randomly Generated Dungeons. The dungeons in Dark Chronicle are divided
into floors. While the infamous "back rooms" of Dark Cloud, which were
filled with tons and tons of treasure, are notably absent, the dungeon size
this time around is notably larger. The other new feature is the ability
to play some mini-games for additional medals. When you reach chapter 2,
you will unlock the option to possibly fish in some areas, and in the
middle of chapter 3, you will learn the wonders of Spheeda, or Golfing!
3) The Georama System. One of the great innovations in Dark Cloud that has
faithfully been continued in Dark Chronicle is the Georama system. Your
task - recreate the world even bigger and better than when it was before it
was affected by (something that you'll find out during the course of the
game). Well, not much bigger, but you WILL make it better. You get to
place houses, people, rivers, and streets, to create the optimum happiness
among the inhabitants of the area. Mastering the Georama system is
essential for completion of Dark Chronicle.
4) Weapon Evolution. Your characters do not gain experience, per se - your
weapons do. While finding certain items during the course of the game does
allow you to improve your character's general defensive ability and hit
points, true strength comes to the warrior who uses his or her weapons on a
regular basis -- and keeps them repaired, too. Every attack causes your
weapons to become gradually more and more worn, until they ultimately
break. This is obviously a Bad Thing that you want to prevent if at all
possible.
Thankfully, they got rid of that pesky perma-breaking of weapons from the
original Dark Cloud, so you no longer have to worry about permanently
losing your weapon by accident. You are also able to superpowerup your
present weapon by a process called Spectralization. If you Spectralize
items and other weapons in your item menu, you can add those spectralized
parts to your other weapons. Just like in the first game, if you
spectralize a weapon, 3/5ths of its old stats carry into the
spectralization.
If that doesn't make sense now, don't worry. It will soon enough. :>
Dark Chronicle received a 35/40 rating by the Weekly Famitsu, Japan's
premier gaming magazine. What that means is that the Japanese critics
think this game is really good. You WILL agree with these critics when you
experience the graphics and gameplay yourself.
And now, onto the guide...

\___/____________________________________________________________________/
Warning - there are some small spoilers in this section.
======================================
General Queries about the Game & Guide
======================================
Q1) Is this game out yet?
A1) It is in Japan, and was released in the U.S. and Canada on February
19th, 2003. I have no idea when it will be released in Europe. Sony
excluded me at their last meeting, you see...<smirk>
Q2) Do I need to have played Dark Cloud I first?
A2) Nope. The references in Dark Cloud II to Dark Cloud I are much the
same as the references between Final Fantasy IV to Final Fantasy X -
recurring motifs like Atla and the cloaked lunar characters, familiar
enemies, and a VERY familiar boss or two.
Q3) How much memory space does this game take up?
A3) The game itself takes 499 KB per save file. An Omake Game Save File
takes up 129 KB, while an Album save file takes up 487 KB. It probably
wouldn't hurt to get an extra memory card just for this game.
Q4) You keep mentioning 'gaijin protection'. What's that?
A4) 'Gaijin protection' is the commonly accepted term for 'protecting' a
Japanese game from being played by a foreigner (gaijin) before its
stateside release. More specifically, it refers to a language barrier in
the game that would pose little problem for a native Japanese speaker, but
would be virtually impossible for a person with little to no knowledge of
Japanese to force their way through. The main instances are the three
times in the game where you have to enter passwords: to get Mayor Need,
Rosa, and to battle the 'final' boss at the end of chapter 7.
Q5) Have you beaten the game?
A5) Yes, I beat the game back in January. Therefore, it's very safe of me
to assume that I have more experience with this game than you do, despite
this guide not being done yet.
Q6) When are you going to finish the guide? Are you going to finish the
guide?
A6) Five seconds later from when I originally hoped to thanks to that
question. Thanks muchly. And yes, this guide WILL be finished. I'm
working on it as fast as I can. <g>
Q7) Did you make up these questions?
A7) A couple of them, but many of them were gleaned from the message boards
on GameFaqs and from various emails I've received.
===========================================
Mechanics & Bugs Frequently Asked Questions
===========================================
Q1) Do weapons still break?
A1) Yes, just not permanently as in Dark Cloud 1. Next question.
Q2) Can I change Yuris/Max's name?
A2) No. The game's VA depends on it your character having one name. Level
5 was kind enough not to pull a FFX-style Tidus on us.
Q3) How do I unlock the ??? marks that cover up some of the medal
conditions when you're examining a dungeon floor's information?
A3) The two conditions that are being covered up are Spheeda and Fishing,
which will be unlocked as you pass certain sections of the game
automatically.
Q4) My game screwed up! This floor genned without an exit!
A4) In that case, better pray that you have Escape Powder, because
otherwise you will be sacrificing half your gold to escape the dungeon via
the Move command in the Main Menu if you haven't cleared out all of the
enemies. :>
Q5) What do the little dots next to Monica's weapon stand for?
A5) Those dots stand for her Absorption Magic meter, and you begin getting
them after Monica's weapon reaches a certain strength (still working on the
precise formula for this being set into action...) If an enemy does a
ranged magic attack, like a fireball, have Monica block. The meter will go
up by one. While guarding, you can throw back at the enemy the magic
you've absorbed by tapping the L1 button. You can only store one elemental
type at a time. For example, if a holy attack comes your way after you've
absorbed four fireballs, if you guard, you will lose all of your fire
attacks and instead have one holy attack stored. The maximum number of
these dots that you can have, ever, is seven.
Q6) How should I level up my weapons?
A6) I hope to have a guide for those weapons up as soon as I have my weapon
chart complete to the point that I feel it is presentable. Until then, I
refer you to GameFAQs excellent Weaponry chart written up by Bansama.
Q7) If I have pictures saved in my Album, can I load them into another game
and avoid the trouble of having to get them as Scoops again?
A7) Yes, and no - you can load them into a new game for use in creating
Inventions, but they will not count towards your Photographing Skill score.
Thus, in each new game you still should take the photographs, but you can
get the jump on having weapons of awesome power for Ridepod and yourself
way earlier in the game than you rightfully should.
Q8) Why do the fish suddenly have passwords? Did the programmers screw up?
A8) Y...no! Much as I'd like to take a giggle at them, the Password
feature on fish shows up around chapter 4 or thereabouts, after the
activation of the Fish Races in the Omake (Bonus) menu on the main screen,
and is entirely intentional. That way, you can take fish data from your
main game and use them in the Omake (Omake is Japanese for 'Bonus') Fish
Races.
Q9) What are Scoops good for, anyways? Aren't they pretty pointless?
A9) Getting tons of cool items and the rarest and coolest Inventions.
Beyond that, nah, you don't need them. :P
Q10) How do I put stuff into the Gift Capsule? How do I get new monster
badges?
A10) Select the item that you want to stuff into the capsule, then press
Square. You should pick up the item. After that, move the item over the
gift capsule, then press Square or X (Circle for Japanese players) to
insert the item. If you've chosen the right stuff, when you toss the gift
capsule at a monster, it will have a musical note pop up above its head.
After that, whack the snot out of it, and if it's a member of a monster
family that you don't have a badge for, you'll get the monster.
Q11) How do I get <such and such> item for creating Georama parts? (ex.
Logs, any sort of Element, Clay, whatever)
A11) After the middle of Chapter II, Conda will join your group as an NPC.
Though he will not join your party if you ask him to (bugger them Elves),
he WILL sell you every single Georama part that you'll need to build the
Georama areas in the game. He's pretty spiffy like that.
================
Walkthrough FAQs
================
Q1) I missed Linda and Halloween's Scoops! Can I go back and get them?
A1) Nope. If you want the credit for the scoops, you will have to restart
the game. If you simply want the ideas for them for Inventions, you will
have to start a new game, get the pictures, get to Chapter 2, get the
Album, and then go back to your original game and load the ideas over.
Q2) How do I get past the fishing hole area in Chapter 2?
A2) First, you need to put an Rotting Apple at the end of your fishing
line, then fling it into the big lake in the middle. When you feel
tugging, gently push your Left Analog stick forward, and you'll
automatically catch a fish, Emperor Mardan. Afterwards, you'll wish you
hadn't. When you have done that, listen to it, then go fishing using the
Mimis you've gotten by this point (if you don't have any bait, re-go
through some of the earlier floors in the Seven-Colored Butterfly Forest
until you get some) for a small fish called a Haguhagu. Give this to
Emperor Mardan using the Square button. Tadaaa.
Q3) Where do I get a monster badge from?
A3) The first monster badge you can get, the Himarra badge, is sold at the
Tailor Shop. Complete the Georama in Chapter 2 as far as you can with the
clues given (or just glance up above at the Georama Chapter 2 section). It
will cost you 400 Gold to get one. To get others, look at the above
Mechanics Questions, #10.
Q4) How do I get Jurak's Branch to appear in Chapter 2's Georama?
A4) Plant at least 10 trees (the Jurak trees count), and build 15 units of
fencing around the house of the Little People. The ??? marks are
deliberately there at this point in the game in your Georama instruction
list - this is NOT an error. They are normally not visible until Chapter 6.
Q5)
Q5) How do I enter the room to the final boss in Chapter 7?
A5) For those of you playing the American version of the game, enter in
Emperor Griffon's name, which they will have told you over and over and
over again during the course of Chapter 7. In the English version, I
believe that the name is Sirus. For those of you playing the Japanese
version of the game, I can definitively tell you that Griffon's true name
is San, so enter that in katakana. For those of you are who are extremely
Japanese-challenged and cannot muster even that, when you're on the default
input screen and select first the first character on the third row, then
the sixth character on the fifth row to write the following (sans
brackets): 『サン』。
Q6) Why are bunnies in this series associated with being on the moon?
A6) Bunnies in Japanese culture have always been associated with the moon,
so Level 5 was just following suit. Whereas in western culture we have the
Man in the Moon, the Japanese have a Rabbit on the Moon making mochi, a
rice-based treat eaten around New Years'.

============================================================================
This story is translated from the first couple of pages of the Japanese
instruction booklet. Enjoy. :>
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
There once was a town, near a mine, named Palm Brinks. Within its closed
and hardened gates flows a calm air of peace and harmony. From here begins
the story of one boy and one young girl, spanning across the past and the
future.
Yuris, our hero who works at Cedric's Repair Shop in Palm Brinks, has never
set foot outside of town, but he someday wants to journey to the outside
world. His wish is about to be granted...
Outside of his town, Yuris meets our other hero, Monica. Thanks to a
mysterious being known only as Emperor Griffon, Monica's world, one hundred
years in the future, has been introduced to terrible weapons of destruction.
Monica, a member of the Resistance opposing Emperor Griffon, turned to
Yuris's age for a solution. Thus, they now go to change the flow of
history, in order to make a world that can fight off Emperor Griffon's
power.
Yuris and Monica, overlapping the past and future, shall begin to move the
world to a new history.
Yuris:
13 year old boy. The sole son of a wealthy millionaire, he has a genius
level IQ. He loves fixing EVERYTHING, and presently works at Cedric's shop.
Monica:
15 year old girl. She comes to Yuris's era from a world 100 years in the
future. She is masterful with a sword, and she also wields magical attacks.

Beginning the Game dc_start
============================================================================
At the Title screen, when you press the Start button, the Title Menu will
be displayed. Use the Direction Keypad to make a selection, then press the
Circle button to confirm it. Your options are:
******************
From the Beginning - This option starts your game from the beginning. After
****************** you choose Yuris's costume, the game begins. Note
that your choice of Yuris's costume has no impact on the game itself.
None. The temptation to start rumors otherwise is strong, but it really
has no effect except for subtly altering how you look at Yuris.
********
Continue - If you've previously saved a game on a PlayStation II 8MB Memory
******** Card, you can restart from that previous save by selecting this
option. You'll need 499 MB free on your memory card for a single game save
file.
*****
Omake - After you've advanced through the game, you can do assorted things
***** here, such as playing various minigames. The only mini-game that
you can do for a long time, and only after Chapter 4(?) or so, is
fish-racing; after Chapter 7, Spheeda is added.
*******
Options - Alters the various optional settings for the game:
*******
Cursor: Sets whether or not the Cursor recalls its last position.
Vibration: Turns the Analog Controller's vibration option on/off.
Message Speed: Select the message speed of your choice.
Sound: Toggles between Stereo and Mono Sound.
Time Passage: Controls how fast time passes in the game itself.
Map Display: Toggles between the three map options (none, small, full)
in the dungeons.
Damage Point: Toggles whether or not Damage numbers are shown.
Enemy HP Display: Toggles whether or not Enemy HP is shown.
Rage Counter: Toggles the display of an enemy's Rage Meter.
Name Display: Whether or not the character's name is shown.
Monster Name Display: Whether or not a monster's name is shown.
Fade Distance: Toggles something. <g>
Subtitles: Turns the subtitles on and off.
Pause Display: Toggles the darkening of the screen and display of "Pause"
when the game is paused.
*******
Install - If you happen to have a PlayStation 2 HDD, you can use this to
******* speed up the loadtimes of Dark Chronicle. According to people on
the GameFAQs message boards, the speed up is quite significant in cutting
down on floor loadtimes. If you don't have it, don't worry too much; the
only time it ever takes the game to really load anything is when it's
generating a given dungeon floor.
============================================================================
Controls dc_cont
============================================================================
In the Japanese version of the game, the Circle button is Confirm, the X
button is Cancel, and the Triangle button is 'menu.' In the United States,
the X button is Confirm, and the Circle button is Cancel. Why gaming
companies insist upon this continued flip-flop of commands is beyond me,
since the time could be better handled on other adjustments, but hey...
The control convention below is from the Japanese version of the game.
***************
Normal Commands
***************
Circle/X = Attack. The basic attack versus an enemy using your melee
weapon. Outside of dungeons, this button is used for opening doors,
talking to people, and in general confirming commands.
X/Circle = Target. Allows you to target an enemy. Pressing back and X
again will allow you to disengage from the target. Outside of dungeons,
this button is used to negate commands.
Square Button = Use the item selected on the upper left side of your screen
in a dungeon. If in a normal area, brings up the camera screen.
Triangle Button = Bring up the Main Menu.
L1 Button = Pressing and holding this allows you to use your ranged weapon.
While holding it down, press the Attack button to fire either Yuris's gun
or Monica's magic.
R1 Button = Guard. This allows you to guard yourself against your enemies.
While in guard mode, you can also go up to an enemy or object and, by
pressing the Attack button against them, lift them off of the ground.
L2 Button = Resets the camera's position to your Hero's POV.
R2 Button = Switches you to free view camera mode, allowing you to
panoramically look around the area.
L3 Button = Allows you to switch between Yuris and Monica without having to
go into the Character Menu.
R3 Button = Allows you to switch between Yuris and Ridepod, or Monica and
her last monster transformation. Cannot be used to switch between various
monster transformations, or between any other pairs other than those two,
as illustrated by the following diagram:
Yuris--------R3--------Ridepod
|
|
L3
|
|
Monica-------R3--------Monster
- Note: The L3 and R3 'buttons' are depressing the Left and Right Analog
sticks, respectively.
Direction Pad = Up/Down are not used. Left/Right switches which item the
Square button is selected to. To change what items are being used, go into
the Item Menu (Triangle for Menu, select Item, press Circle).
Left Analog Stick = Moves your character.
Right Analog Stick = Rotates the viewpoint around your main character.
Left turns the screen counterclockwise, while right turns it clockwise.
Start - Pauses the game.
Select - Only used in the dungeon to flip flop between the various maps.
********************
Special Combat Moves
********************
----------------------------
Consecutive Attacks (連続技)
----------------------------
Repeated presses of the Attack Button will allow you to do a string of
attacks upon a single enemy with your right hand weapon, getting
progressively more powerful. At the 5th or 6th attack, you will typically
do a finishing strike, knocking the enemy in question to the ground. The
style and number of slices in your consecutive attacks varies very slightly
with each individual weapon.
-------------------------
Charged Attack (ため攻撃)
-------------------------
If you hold your Attack button, be it with or without the L1 button, you
will start charging your power for a devastating attack. Note that you
cannot charge Yuris's projectile weapon.
---------------------
Final Blow (追い討ち)
---------------------
While locked on to an enemy, if you press towards the enemy and tap the
Attack button, you'll do a flying leap at them for an incredibly strong
attack.
--------------------
Back Flip (バック転)
--------------------
While locked on to an enemy, if you press away from the enemy and tap the
Attack button, you'll do a flying backflip, giving you some distance away
from the enemy. While airborne, you're immune to any sort of damage.
-----------------------------------
Absorption Magic Sword (吸収魔法剣)
-----------------------------------
This is the one ability that the instruction booklet doesn't mention, and
it's available to Monica only. "What is an absorption?" you may ask. An
absorption is where you successfully block a magical ranged attack from an
enemy, such as a fireball. As you progress through the game and level up
Monica, Monica's swords will start gaining little dots next to her sword
icon in the upper part of your screen when battling through dungeons.
These stand for the number of slots that she has available for Magic
Absorption. After you've successfully absorbed an attack by guarding with
the R1 button, continue to hold down the R1 button and tap the L1 button to
return the enemy's attack. The more of her magic absorption slots that are
filled, the stronger the attack.
The number of little dots next to her sword are solely dependent on the
strength of her weapon. The minimum number of dots once they start to
appear is one, and the maximum number of dots is seven.
Note that you can only absorb one 'type' of element at a time - otherwise
your absorption meter resets. For example, if you absorb five fireballs,
if an enemy with a holy attack hits you, you will lose all five fireballs
and have one holy absorbtion stored.

Pressing the Triangle Button when on the field map or in a dungeon will
bring up the Main Menu. It's incredibly straightforward, so I'm just going
to do quickie translations of everything:
アイテム - Item - Brings up the Item Menu
キャラクター - Character - Brings up the Character Selection Screen.
つくる - Make - Allows you to create inventions.
いどう - Move - Allows you to move to different areas, and between towns and
dungeons.
オプション - Options - Allows you to toggle through the Options listed above
in the Start Menu.
ヘルプ - Help - Allows you to access a number of movies explaining various
aspects of the game. As you progress through the game, more explanatory
movies are made available.

Yuris's or Monica's defense. If there's a small shield with 'core' (コア)
written next to it, then that indicates the defensive level of Ridepod's
core. If it has 'body' (ボディ) next to it, then it indicates Ridepod's
body's defense.
Most of the items have at least two options: Spectralize, or transforming
items into spectral items for weapon absorbtion, and Drop.
Weapons, on the other hand, have the following additions: Equip, Repair,
Status.

press the Confirm button. Ridepod will join your party halfway through
chapter one, and Monica will join your party at the beginning of chapter

============================================================================
The newest major addition to the Dark Cloud series, a feature that wasn't
available in Dark Cloud I, is the addition of the Invention system,
accessed by the 'Make' menu on your main screen. Yuris, being an
mechanical genius, has the ability to analyze ideas from pictures and to
come up with new and fantastic inventions. Via this system, you can create
upgrades for Ridepod, create rare and fantastic items, and even aquariums
to stick your favorite fish in for viewing at any time.
To come up with your blueprints for a given creation, you must do the
following four steps:
1) Take lots of pictures of stuff.
2) Enter the Creation Menu. Use the Square button to select three pictures
or ideas that you wish to use.
3) Press the Confirm button. Cross your fingers.
4) Hopefully, your idea will result in the blueprints for an item.
Otherwise, you'll be told by the game that your idea was totally wrong, or
that you got one part incorrect. In the latter case, you will be given a
hint as to what that remaining part could be. For example, if the one
remaining idea you need is a picture of a manhole, you will be a given a
clue something like "ma**ole".
A full invention list is in the process of being translated now from
Japanese from the Weekly Famitsu's January 31st issue.

Dungeons dc_fight
============================================================================
It should go without say that a role-playing game's dungeons are its bread
and butter, and Dark Cloud is no exception to this rule. Each dungeon in
Dark Cloud is randomly generated around the basic requirement of acquiring
an item, a "gate key", to move on to the next floor. What this gate key is
is dependent upon what dungeon you're in at the time. Regardless, the
method of getting it is the same - kill the enemies on the floor until one
of them drops the Gate Key. More often than not, the strongest sort of
enemy on that floor will have said Key.
As you work your way through the dungeon, the game automatically generates
a map for you. You can toggle through the various levels of this map
either in the Option menu (painful and laborious) or by pressing the Select
Button (nice and easy).
A general legend to your map:
Large Green Dot: Floor Entrance
Large Yellow Dot: Floor Exit
Yellow Dot: Treasure Chest/Mimic (you don't know which until you open it!)
Strong Yellow Dot: Coin Spot
Purple Dot: Geostone
Red Dot: Enemy
Question Mark: Healing Spring
For your reference, all floors are noted in the following format:
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Floor # (A) - Japanese Title (B) FLOOR TYPE (C)
Translation (D) dc_X-XX (E)
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Medal Conditions (F)
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Georama Supplies: (G)
Enemies: (H)
Spheeda Prizes: (J)
Geostone: (K)
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
A) Floor # = The Dungeon and Room Number. For dungeons with multiple
paths, the earlier room number is the one 'off the beaten path', so to
speak.
B) Japanese Title = The title of the floor in Japanese.
C) Floor Type = On about 60% of the floors, this space will be left blank.
The remaining 40% will have one of these notes about the floor:
1) RED SEAL - You cannot use Ridebot or Yuris on this floor. This
limitation is broken if you defeat all the enemies on the floor.
2) BLUE SEAL - You cannot use Monica or any of her transformations on
this floor. This limitation is broken if you defeat all the enemies on
the floor.
3) WHITE SEAL - You cannot use status recovery or healing items on this
floor. Note that you can, thankfully, repair your weapons, use healing
springs, and recover hit points via a weapon infused with Drain or Slow
Heal. This limitation is broken if you defeat all the enemies on the
floor.
4) SPECIAL - No enemies on this floor. You generally gain some sort of
item on this floor, though not always.
5) BOSS - There's a boss here. Duhhh.
6) FORK - This floor has two exits. The exits are typically marked by a
sign that notates where the exit leads to - a sun sign, a moon sign, or a
star sign. Star Sign paths are generally blocked until Chapter 6 in the
game. Any floor with a Star Sign Fork will have an * in front of the
word "FORK".
7) X-XX ???? FORK - This room forks from the room number listed in
front. For example, 8-18 SUN FORK means that this room is where you end
up if you take the Sun Exit at Floor 8-18.
D) Translation = Precisely what it says. For now, the floors are listed
with my translation of the Japanese floor title, which may or may not
correspond exactly with the English floor title.
E) dc_x-xx = The Find hotkey combination for that floor.
F) Medal Conditions = These are the things that you need to do in order to
get medals. Medals are your badge of honor to show that you are a great
player of Dark Chronicle. Beyond that, later in the game, you can exchange
the medals for special limited edition clothing that you can get nowhere
else. These are all the possible conditions (in translation):
1) Limit Time for killing all enemies - XX:XX minutes.
This means, naturally, that you have to defeat all the enemies, Mimics
and all. As soon as you defeat all the enemies, immediately after you
get the message on your screen stating, "Monster Annihilation!", you
will learn whether or not you made it within the time limit. You can
kill them via whatever method you see fit. Opening treasure chests will
count into your final time.
2) Spheeda (Sphere Golfing)
After you've killed off all enemies on a given floor, once you've passed
a certain point in the game, you will be able to play a game of Spheeda,
or Sphere Golfing. If you get rid of the Black Hole using the Spheroid
Shard (or, in normal English, whack the ball properly through the goal),
you will get good treasure (Gems, Level-up Powder, Stamina Potions)
in addition to getting a medal. What a deal! You will be able to start
playing Spheeda towards the end of Chapter 3. Before you get there,
though, all the Spheeda conditions will show up as ??? marks.
3) Fishing
After you've killed off all of the enemies, catch a fish on that floor
with a length greater than whatever length the floor statistic screen
specifies. Very straight forward. You will get your fishing pole to
fish in the middle of Chapter 2. Before you get there, all the fishing
conditions will show up as ??? marks.
4) Annihilate all enemies without healing yourself.
No using any curative items on yourself or on Ridepod. No having NPCs
heal you. Any HP you gain from Drain or Slow-Healing imbued weapons,
however, is a-ok and legal.
5) Annihilate all enemies with items.
Just what it says - kill all enemies by using items. You are not
permitted to use any weapon attacks from any of your characters
(Ridepod's attack does not count as an item attack, for instance),
but you are allowed to pick up crates/rocks and use those to kill
enemies.
Random Elf has contributed the following advice regarding defeating item
floors, which I shall paraphrase: Eric's bombs ROCK. To defeat one of
these floors, have him create 20 of his bombs (figure about one floor
per recharge of his skill points). Have him recharge once,
There is evidence out there Monica's Absorption Sword attack does not
count as any sort of attack type - item, sword, or otherwise. An enemy
killed with this attack produces general experience rather than
experience for either just your ranged or melee weapon for Monica.
6) Annihilate all enemies | with Yuris's gun.
| with Yuris's right hand weapon.
| with Monica's sword.
| with Monica's magic.
| with Ridepod.
| as a Monster.
You must defeat the enemies using only the above weapon/character. This
does not translate to merely do the last hit for each enemy with that
particular weapon - no, it means that EVERY SINGLE attack you do on that
floor to an enemy MUST be with that weapon. You are also prohibited
from using item attacks on any enemy.
G) Georama Supplies = All of the possible Georama Supplies that you can
obtain on this floor. You can obtain this information on a floor by
selecting the floor, pressing Circle (X in the U.S.), then pressing
Triangle. Note that some floors do not generate Georama supplies in
treasure chests, and hence do not have this feature.
H) Enemies = The enemies on the floor. Unlike the layout of floors, what
monsters are on a given floor are FIXED. Later versions of this guide may
go so far as to how many of each enemy are on each floor, since that also
seems to be predetermined.
I) Geostone = What the Geostone, if a floor actually has a Geostone,
provides you on that floor.
J) Known Spheeda Prizes = What prizes I've been able to pick up in Spheeda
games on that particular floor. The prizes are indeed from a predetermined
list, and are not random. Repeat instances of winning Spheeda on the same
floor result in a lesser prize.

========= Prologue ==========

========/ \=========
The game starts off with you choosing Yuris's clothing. Fiddle around with
it for a bit - you get an initial three choices for each of his clothes,
hats, and shoes. After you have done that, you will jump straight into
playing Monica for a short amount of time. If you peek on your subscreen
(by pressing Triangle), and go to the Character menu, you can read the
following info about Monica:
Monica: Princess of the Kingdom of Lebrante. Adept with swords.
Monica's initial equipment will be a Kingdom Sword and her Magic Armband.
It's a shame you lose the Kingdom Sword after this fight, though -- it's
nicer than what she'll eventually truly start out with.
The game will immediately explain in brief her controls. If you peeked
above at the explanation for the controls, you would've seen it, but if
not, here they are AGAIN:
Circle: Attack. Holding the button for a moment and releasing it will
perform a charged attack.
R1: Guard.
X: Lock-on command.
L1 + Circle: Magic Attack. You have to hold the L1 button. Note that you
will move around far more slowly while it's depressed.
You will have to immediately battle off four Griffon Army Soldiers. These
folks require no special strategy - just press the X button to lock on to
them, then whack them as quickly as possible. The only thing that you have
to watch out for is getting pincered by two or more of them.

Palm Brinks - Hot Circus Nights dc_cir
****************************************************************************
After this scene, you will switch to Yuris, and you'll immediately see that
Yuris is ready and raring to go to the Porcus Circus. First, though, you
need to do your day's work for Cedric. Before you sit down and get
started, go all the way to the bottom of the lab, and pick up the Memo Book
on top of the table. (You should see a big exclamation mark by Yuris's
head before you do so -- when that happens, that means that you can
investigate that area to do something.) Search the cabinet to get your
trusty Wrench.
Your inventory beyond those two items, incidentally, is as follows:
1 - Circus Ticket 3 - Gun Repair Powder
1 - Medal Holder 3 - Tasty Water
5 - Fluffy Bread 2 - Antidote Drink
3 - Repair Powder
Take a quick moment to go back upstairs to the big red sphere thing, and
save your game. Look at the object on the desk against the top wall on the
middle floor, select the first choice, then sit back and watch a few
scenarios.
When you once again can control Yuris, chew the fat with the clown. Press
the Square button when prompted, and then select the Circus Ticket (the
Grey rectangular item. If you haven't messed around with your inventory at
all yet, it will be the first item.) When you give it to him, a little
red-haired kid in rags will run by and steal it. Follow him, talking first
to the couple underneath the parasol, than the old lady in front of the
town hall. Remember, it's rude to talk to people from behind. (Hint,
hint.) Continue running counterclockwise, then talk to the little girl in
front of the lamppost. You'll get your ticket back afterwards. Go talk to
the clown, and give him your ticket for real.
After the next scenes, you will have to fight four Clowns. Come on, what
did you expect from a circus troupe that dubs themselves the Porcus Circus
-- good guys? (Well, you probably expected pigs...) Bash the Clowns with
your Wrench - they're pathetically easy - but be wary about letting them
corner you. After the fight is over, your Wrench will be confirmed to be a
"Battle Wrench", and you will be able to use it henceforth as a weapon
instead of a mere tool for fixing stuff. Feel powerful now, doncha? Sit
back, watch a few scenarios, and enjoy the formulaic opening song in
heavily accented English that signals that your adventure has begun. :>

Opening Theme: Time is changing - Short Version
-----------------------------------------------
Lyrics: Mike Reagan
Music: Tomohito Nishiura
Singer: Chidai Yano
I'll take my chances, racing time.
We're writing for the book for all to see.
On my own, I can ride the winds of the day.
To heal the broken time, broken world.
In the dark, a candle is the sun.
To light our way back home.
It's a dream, it's a hope, that one day we'll be free.
Give me strength to open up the door!
Only the strong ones can stand the test of time,
Falling between these two worlds, finding the way.
The sun will rise, to piece this hope,
When this wonderful world starts to shine.
When this wonderful world starts to shine...
After the sequence is over, save, then talk to Donny. Select the second
choice. Donny will give you the Help Receiver and your very first gun, the
Classic Shot. Thus ends the prologue, and now your adventure truly begins
- in the depths of the sewers beneath Palm Brinks.

then use that item by pressing the Square button when you reach the actual

When you're through, explore a bit. Go up against one of the crates, and
learn all about throwing them. Hold the R1 button, press the Attack button

When you are done with the area, you will see a short scenario about Yuris.
You may want to take a moment, rummage and admire your new things, then go

This floor also presents your very first Scoop Opportunity, though you
won't be able to get it until you get your Camera once you start the next
floor. If you were clever enough to buy a Scoop Book like I suggested
(hint hint), entry number seven the book mentions Nightstalkers, which you
initially encounter on this floor. If you take a picture of a Nightstalker
while it's performing its spinning attack, you will be able to show it to
Donny later in the game to get some awesome items.

Attack her once or twice, note that your attacks really have no effect,
then keep your distance until Yuris realizes that his moves had as much
effect as anyone trying to convince George Lucas to stop directing Star
Wars movies. You'll be thrust into a scenario where you will be introduced
to your Ridepod, Steve, built by Cedric. You'll get to return back to the
upper world of Palm Brinks at this point.
****************************************************************************
Palm Brinks w_palm
****************************************************************************
To repair Steve, you have to come up with a way to create a suitable power
pack. Cedric will give you the Camera, and will explain to you now about
the Hatsumei (発明), or Invention, system. (You can see a further
explanation in Section 6D of this guide, which discusses Inventions). When
he's done, go outside and take a snapshot of the following items:
ベルト = Belt. Take an extreme closeup of Sheriff Barker's belt
during the daytime.
牛乳缶 = Milk Cans. Located outside of the bakery, where Polly
works.
+ パイプ = Pipes. Take a picture of the pipes on top of Cedric's
Repair Shop.
---------------------------
バックパック = Backpack!
If after several photos you still cannot get the item created, go back to
Cedric's Shop and talk to Cedric again. He will show you the locations you
need to take shots at in order to create your backpack.
To actually make your backpack, you will need 20 Metal Scraps, 1 Thick
Leather, and 2 Copper Lumps. Since you will most likely not yet have 20
Metal Scraps, consider yourself fortunate in that you can also now access
several shops within Palm Brinks. Go to Mouton's shop, which is left of
Polly's Bakery and has the pumpkins in front of it, and plunk down 10 Gold
per piece of scrap metal, then go into the Make menu and finish it up.
Before you go back to talk to Cedric after you've built your backpack, go
back into the Entrance to the sewers where Donny is and look around the
center lever to find a small treasure chest containing a helpful Eden
Fruit. Eden Fruits are items that when used raise Yuris's or Monica's
maximum Hit Points by 8 - helpful things indeed!
You will learn here how to ride Steve -- to select Ridepod in the dungeons,
either go to the Character menu and select Steve, or press R3 (press in the
Right Analog Stick) as Yuris to switch over. When you're ready to go into
the dungeon, talk to Cedric one more time, and he'll ask if you're ready.
Say 'OK!' if you are, or select the bottom one if you aren't.

This boss is pathetically easy, but you need to do one thing before you
kill it - namely, get a picture of it for Donny's Scoops. The shot you
need to get of Linda is her lifting her front feet in preparation for her
stomp shock wave attack. Note that this is the ONLY CHANCE IN THE GAME (I
could probably emphasize that more, but you get the picture, no pun
intended...) to get that photo.
Oh, what the hell.

THIS IS THE ONLY CHANCE IN THE GAME

There. You've been warned. If you're a completionist and you missed this,
you can reset your game now, thx. However, you've read this guide, and now
you're definitely going to get it, right? Right.
When you've gotten your picture of Linda, switch to Ridepod and pound away
at Linda. There's no real strategy that can be written for this - because
you don't need a real strategy to defeat it! Linda will go down in only a
few hits, and she doesn't do damage to Ridepod fast enough for you to have
to worry about being killed.
After she's dead, go to the door directly opposite the stairs. When you
leave the area, you'll see a scenario of a discussion between the Mayor and
Cedric.

Enemies: Bat, Clown, Nightstalker, Mimic (ミミック), Vanguard (ヴァンガード)

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
This is the first floor where you'll experience the wonders of Mimics.
Mimics, as every veteran RPG player knows, are enemies that look like
treasure chests but really aren't. They are fairly easy to take out if you
run around behind them and whack them with your melee weapon repeatedly.
As long as you make sure that you aren't directly in front of them, they
and their larger cousins on the next floor, King Mimics, will be quite
simple to eliminate. Note that Mimics DO count into your medal enemy
annihilation requirements, so on any floors that have Mimics, do take a
moment to pop open every single chest.
The Vanguards on this floor and the next one have to be defeated by using
Ridepod's weapons. When Yuris is much much stronger, you won't have to
switch over, but for now you do. Note that the Vanguards have three
attacks: an attack where their pistons shoot at you, a spinning attack, and
an attack where they rise up on their pistons like stilts, then fall back
down for a slam. Take a picture of this last attack for the second and
last of the regular enemy-type scoops for this dungeon.
When this floor is completed, you will see the end of the conversation
between the Mayor and Cedric.

That's the last time I'll do that, I swear.
When you've got the photograph, switch to Ridepod, and clanker straight for

When you first get in this area, take a moment to take pictures of the

unique to this area that you'll want for future inventions.
And you finally get on the train. Thank goodness. Cedric will begin the
journey by telling you all about the status of the world, and the evil
Emperor Griffon.
You'll hear some banging outside the train. Save JUST IN CASE, then go
outside and fight the boss.
ARMED BUGGY 武装バギー

All you need to do is throw three bombs by pressing the Circle button at
the Armed Buggy to defeat it. To pick one up, turn around and face Cedric,
then while holding the R1 button, press the Circle button. Throw the bombs
at the Armed Buggy as if it was a stationary target, and you should have
absolutely no problems with this boss at all. Any sort of hit is a full
hit in this fight.
After this battle, Monica will join your party, and that more or less ends
the chapter. There's some other piddly minor stuff, but I'll just save it
for the beginning of the next chapter below.

/=======================================================\
========= Chapter 2 - よみがえる大長老 - The Reborn Great Elder ==========
\=======================================================/
/ \ dc_chap2
========/ \=========
This chapter starts out with - you guessed it - scenario sequences with
Monica explaining more about what's going on. When she's done talking, you
will get five Ring Repairs, and given instructions on how to switch to her
whenever you're going through the game. This is done by either going into
the Main Menu, selecting 'Character', then selecting Monica, or by pressing
the L3 'button' - pressing in the Left Analog Stick. Note that you can do
this WHENEVER Monica is with you, inside the dungeon or out.
When you stop outside of the train, you'll also gain the ability to put
NPCs into your party by just going up and talking to them. These NPCs are
further described in the NPC section, but suffice it to say that the only
decent one to take along with you for now is Cedric, as he possesses the
ability to repair Steve while you're journeying through the dungeon.
However, Eric is an incredibly worthwhile NPC thanks to his ability to
create bombs. Each use of his special ability allows you to create 3 Bombs
worth 500 Gold apiece. If you find yourself scrapped for cash at this
point in the game, have him join your party, use his abilities from the
character menu, then kick him out again for Cedric until some time has
elapsed. After a certain duration of time, his ability to affect your
weapons recharges.
You can go back to Palm Brinks at any time using the いどう (Move) command
on your main menu, except when you're in a dungeon. For now, though,
continue to the area just beyond the Save Sphere - Charlotte.

The only thing that you see in this town is...lo and behold... a house with
an Elf. After a short scenario, you will learn the objective for this
area, and, more importantly, gain the plot-advancing item known as Wine
from Conda, the Elder of the Fabreeze Elf Tribe. After you receive the
Wine, Conda will open the path into the Nanairocho no Mori, which is known
as the Rainbow Butterfly Forest in English and is more properly translated
as the Forest of the Seven-Colored Butterfly.
At this point, the drawbridge in Palm Brinks that was blocking your path
before will have been lowered, allowing you to go into eastern Palm Brinks.
You can also head through the arches that had been blocked by clowns
before during Chapter 1 into Palm Brinks' northwest areas. Take advantage
of this opportunity to pick up new photographs and new ideas for inventions
before moving onward.

This floor is the first of the 'sealed' floors that you will encounter
during the course of the game. As noted back in chapter 1, sealed floors
are special floors where part of your abilities are sealed. On this
particular floor, there's a Red Seal, which means anyone associated with
the Red Atlamillia (Yuris's) is unaccessible until the seal is broken. So
the only character you can use on this floor is Monica until you finish off
all of the enemies to destroy the seal. When the seal is destroyed for a
given floor in the game, it remains so on all subsequent visits to the
floor.

Floor 2-04 - 怪魚の沼 SPECIAL
Marsh of the Suspicious Fish dc_2-04
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
When you enter this area, go talk to the Elf sitting on top of the log
fishing in the marsh. He'll comment upon the fact that you have some
wonderful smelling object. Hand him the Wine. He'll give you the Fishing
Pole in return and a Mimi - an initial bit of bait.
The game will now prompt you on what to do to fish. First, find a lake.
Then, press your Action button to begin fishing. Move the Left stick
around to decide where you want to throw your line out to, then press the
Action button to throw out your line to that spot. When you feel a
vibration from your controller/ see an exclamation mark appear above
Yuris's head, move the Left Analog stick down to start reeling in the fish.
Use the Action button to reel your catch in.
Note that you can only fish as Yuris. Monica doesn't seem to appreciate
the simple pleasures of fishing.
Run past the Elves, across the bridge, past the Marsh, and make your way
towards Master Utan. Those of you who are fans of the original Dark Cloud
will recognize him well as one of the dungeon bosses from that game. After
you're done conversing with him, take a picture of him for your Scoops
(#30), and note the addition of four Rotton Apples in your inventory.
Do an abrupt about face, and then go BACK to the marsh pond in the center
(not the one where the Elves are at). Equip the Fishing Rod, select the
Rotten Apple as your bait, then throw the bait in and wait until you both
feel vibrations from your controller AND (more importantly) see an
Exclamation point next to Yuris's head. Pull down. When you get Emperor
Mardan to come out of the pond, since you can't really say you 'caught'
him, talk to him, then take a picture of him for Scoops (#33). Note that
this is your one and only opportunity to do so.
When Mardan is done, go back to the pond you were at with the Elves before,
then fish there until you catch a Haguhagu. The name will most likely
differ for the English version, but it doesn't matter - whatever type of
fish the Mardan asks for, fish until you get that sort of fish. If you run
out of bait, go back to the earlier floors of the dungeon until you garner
some more successfully, then come back and do more fishing. Yes, this is
the game's way of REALLY forcing you to experience the wonders of fishing.
:P
Once you've caught a Haguhagu, go talk to the Emperor Mardan once again.
He'll flirt, he'll blow kisses, and he'll thankfully go away for good,
releasing the remainder of the Elves. I have no idea how his voice is in
the American version, but his Japanese voice is anime-freakish. Go back to
the Elves, get re-grossed out at the thought that they were so thirsty they
drank SWAMP WATER, and exit the dungeon using the Movement command.

Head back into the Elves' House. After a brief celebratory party, you'll

what you will use to navigate the Georama System, though you won't get to
actually easy use it until you bring back a Geostone.
You can go 100 years into the future (Monica's era) by stepping into the
Red Timegate by the waterfall. There's not much there now, but you can
pick up a Potato Pie and an Eden Fruit. When you're done with that, return
to the Marsh of the Suspicious Fish (Floor 2-4) in the Seven-Colored
Butterfly Forest and talk with Master Utan. He'll lift up the stray
boulders and move them aside, enabling you to pass on to the next part of
the dungeon.

This floor is the first of many floors with Forks, or two possible exits to
leave the dungeon through. In front of each exit is a small symbol - a
moon, a star, or a sun - which indicates which exit this is. You don't
need an extra Gate Key to go through one of these gates - a normal Gate Key
will work just fine on any of them - with one exception. If the gate is
blocked by a Star Barrier, you have to destroy said barrier before heading
down a Star Fork. Guess what? This floor has a Star Fork with a Star
Barrier.
This is a slight spoiler, but I figure it's better to spare you about five
hours of grief and tell you this up front. NO, you are NOT supposed to be
able to go through the Star-Barriered gate at this point in the game! You
won't be able through for another four chapters.
After completing this floor, you can pop back to the future (maybe even
earlier than this) to get a Witch's Parfait for Monica.
After you upload the Georama reqs for this area and exit out of
Carpet-Lion, you are told to search for a person who is versed about trees.
Yuris mulls for a moment, and then remembers a person who works at his
house, Gordon (Green), a gardener. Go to Yuris's house in Parm Brinks and
give him Holy Water (聖水) to move on in the game. If you need more
details on how to do this, please refer to Green's notes in the NPC section.
After you recruit Green, you can recruit almost every other NPC in the game
freely, with about four or five exceptions. Given that there are 26 NPCs
and you only have four of them, that ain't half bad at all, Jeb. :D

Charlotte - Ai ai yi, Where's My Little Butterfly?! dc_charl3
****************************************************************************
At this time, if you haven't touched the Georama system yet, now is an
incredibly good time to do so, because you absolutely have to go through
Georama to get the item to get the Seven-Colored Butterfly to appear in the
next area of the game.
The benchmarks for the scenarios for plot advancement and events are as
follows:
Complete Condition #4 (= 40%) - Revive Jurak.
Complete Condition #2 (= 50%) - Jurak will give you two things. First, he
will give you the Rafresia Seed (ラフレシアの種), and tell you how to get the
Sun Dew (太陽のしずく). As you leave the area, Monica will tell you about
the Badge Box (バッジボックス), used to store badges for her transformations,
and present it to you. Four Wind Crystals are also available in a little
box lying around once you complete this step.
Complete Condition #3 (= 60%) - Recreate the Tailor Shop. You can buy the
Himarra Badge here, which will be Monica's first transformation technique.
This is as far as you need to complete the Georama to finish out the
chapter, but if you get 100% in Georama by reading the requirements below
in the Georama section, there will be one more special scene, where Jurak
will bestow upon you the Jurak Gun, a laser gun that can be powered up into
the Q-Shot.
To get the Sun Dew, take your Himarra badge and turn into a Himarra on a
floor that has Himarras on it -- 2-01, 2-03, or 2-06. The first Himarra
you talk to as a Himaara will give you the Sun Dew, regardless of which
floor you choose to go about your investigations on.
When you're done with all this, go on in the dungeon to floor 2-11...
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Floor 2-11 - 七色の滝 BOSS
Seven-Colored Waterfall dc_2-11
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
First, throw the Rafresia Seed into the pond, then toss in the Sun Dew. In
a growing spree that a Chia pet would envy, the Rafresia Flower will bloom
from the pond in a spectacular miniature earthquake. Take a picture of the
Stem (Scoop #34), then investigate the white thread hanging down from the
bloom to get to the boss:
Legendary Beast 伝説の魔物
Rainbow Butterfly 七色蝶 (Seven-colored Butterfly)
First things first. You aren't able to hit the boss just yet - you must
hit the filaments of the Rafresia flower (the tendril things, for those of
you who have forgotten basic botany) of the plant. There are six total -
one hit is all you need to convince the buggers to writhe upwards. When
you finish doing so, the Rafresia flower will release its pollen,
attracting the Butterfly to it and causing the beast to separate into its
seven component parts.
Typically, at this stage of the game Yuris's gun will not have homing
capabilities. Switch to Monica and cast a spell at a Butterfly.
Alternatively, you could Ridepod and his Barrel Cannon for this task. If
you want the Scoop (and you will), fire and hit any of the butterflies
OTHER than the red one. This will send all the butterflies back to above
the pistil to reunite. When they do so, take a picture of the Butterfly as
it's reforming (you have a pretty large amount of time to take the shot) to
get Scoop #53.
If you want to defeat the Butterfly, cause it to separate it into its
component parts as described, then channel your early science classes to
remember the order of colors in the rainbow. Good ol' Roy G. Biv: red,
orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and purple. It only takes one hit,
irregardless of what damage you do, to cause the part to be defeated, as
long as you hit it in the proper order.
When you defeat the Butterfly, you will get the Envelope, and prompted to
go to talk to Jurak. Go to Jurak in Charlotte (when you enter the town,
you'll get a note that the future has changed - when you're done talking
with Jurak, look around his ladder for a Garnet). After the scenario with
Jurak, talk to Cedric outside the train to head on to the next area,
Balance Valley.
When you arrive, get off the train, go across the bridge, then up the
staircase. Go inside the house you see ahead of you. When you're done in
there, go back to Palm Brinks briefly and head to Dr. Duck's house over by
the port. Talk to Dr. Duck and explain the situation, then once he's
joined, return back to the house in Balance Valley to end the chapter.

Golems and Statue Dogs. Take a picture as the Golems have their arms
raised in the air for their slam attack to get one of the Scoops for this
floor. To get the second Scoop available here, Lock On a Statue Dog as
it's still folded up, then inch closer and closer to it. The instant you
see it begin to unfold, snap a photograph. If you miss the scoop (you have
to catch it in the act of unfolding), don't worry - just back up far enough
away for it to go back into block form and try again.

said fork. To the right of the log that signifies the exit, you will see
either a sun or a moon symbol. The Moon Symbol will take you up on the
path to floor 3-06, while the Sun Symbol exit will take you to floor 3-12.
