I made the other 2 faqs for MH for a reason. I'm making this one because no one seems to understand the potential Dual Swords have. If you're new to dual swords or maybe you're just unsure about testing them out, try them. You might find it to be a weapon type worth sticking to. ----------------------------------Updates--------------------------------------- 8/23/05: N/A 8/25/05: Added a good 85% to the Faq and set it up to my liking. 8/26/05: Finished my elemental testing and finished 1.5 of this FAQ. 8/29/05: Removed Prices and Materials for Creation. Just listing paths now. Also added "descriptions". Added Plesioth... I forgot the big fishy... 8/30/05: Pondering: Adding "suggestions" against wyverns/bosses? 9/04/05: Corrected a typo 'loop' with Grad-U and DDU. 9/11/05: Added Damage % of each attack. Also added "Spin Cancels", to Attacks. -----------------------------Why A DS Faq?-------------------------------------- Well, like I said above. For one, no one seems to know what to do with them. For instance, people say "well, they have low attack, so they must SUCK!" Well, do me a favor, punt them in the balls. People also seem to abuse a certain move. Those of you who use DS' you know what I'm talkin about... Also, I did 95% of this all on memory, so if something's wrong (out side of elemental weakness/resistance, thats all fresh to me) then feel free to email me. I'll give you credit, UNLESS I was already correcting it in a future version Meh, I'd probably still give you credit anyway, just cuz you made the effort. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx 2. DS "Move List" xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx With Every weapon, certain movements with the R3 stick will cause you to use different attacks. This part of the guide will tell you the % of the attack and use of each attack and how to "start" them. Updated Info: I added damage %. I basically did some testing with non-elemented and 4 of the elemental duals. Not only does sharpness add as a factor, keep in mind that attacking certain parts of a wyvern's body affects damage percentages. Also, this isn't like "add 18% to 266 attack". To find out what you're REALLY doing with a SINGLE hit, take 18% and multiply by your attack power. Keep in mind that the area of a wyvern's body, again affects your attack and the element's damage too. Few Examples: Hitting Rathalos' head does more damage than hitting him on the foot. Hitting Gravios' in the stomach (after shell break #1), deals way more damage than hitting it anywhere else. ========================Quick Word About Sharpness============================== First off, if for some reason you don't know what sharpness is, or how to read the sharpness guage... There are 4 Colors. These colors tell you how sharp a weapon is and will indicate how well it can cut through monsters. Here's a break down of how they all work. Red: The worst sharpness reading. You deal .5 of your attack power. Orange: A poor sharpness reading. You deal .75 of your attack power. Yellow: An average sharpness reading. You deal 1.0 of your attack power. Green: The best sharpness reading. You deal 1.25 of your attack power. The "duller" a weapon is, the less likely it is to cut through thick hide. Weapons with green status only deflect on tough wyvern hide. Also, sharpness affects your ELEMENTAL damage as well... How to read the sharpness bar on the status screen: If a weapon has all 4 colors and completely fills the guage. It should look something like this: Red>Orange>Yellow>Green If a weapon doesn't use the entire guage, it'll look like this: Red>Orange>Yellow>Green>Black The black is just guage that isn't used. But I've ran into people asking me what blacksharpness does... So... there ya go... =================================Mode One: Normal=============================== Now, unlike every other weapon type, dual swords have 2 modes. Mode One "normal" and mode two "Fury". Its best NOT to rely on just one of the two modes and its best to know when to use each move in the right situation. Now, on to the move list. I'll state the name for the attack, how to do it and a description of it. --------------------------------------BOOT!------------------------------------- How to use: Press R3 inward Damage %: 1% Description: You can only use this "Attack" when your weapon is sheathed. Don't bother using it unless its to stall a kelbi or something.... -----------------------------------Blazing UpperCut----------------------------- How to use: Roll with O, then Up on R3 during roll. Damage %: 15% Description: ALOT of people don't even know about this attack. Infact, I've only seen 3 people other than myself EVER use it. And I've played since launch. This attack is great for evading and countering. So use it like that. Its even great to use this attack and then combo it with the 'Up7' combo. You can chain it again, so you can easily BUC into the Up7 until you can't roll or just stop wanting to use it. ----------------------------------Left Spin Slash------------------------------- How to use: Left on R3 Damage %: 10% then 8% then 6% Description: This attack is good for a three hit offensive. Its decent at breaking parts off, but it can leave you open to an attack. -----------------------------------Mode Change---------------------------------- How To Use: R1 Damage %: 0% Description: It changes you over to Mode Two: Fury. ---------------------------------Over-Head Slash-------------------------------- How to use: Up on R3 Damage %: 14% Description: This is a pretty basic attack. It can also combo up to seven times. This attack or its combos are good for getting quick hits in without worrying about taking damage. ----------------------------------Right Spin Slash------------------------------ How to use: Right on R3 Damage %: 10% then 8% then 6% Description: Like its brother "LSS", its only good for quick three hits. Its fairly decent for breaking parts off of bosses, but it can easilly leave you open. ----------------------------------Spin Cancel Alpha----------------------------- How to use: Up x2 on R3. If you do it right. You'll combo in 2 hits without spinning. (Yes, this attack isn't an 'official spin, but meh... its a cancel) Damage %: 8% then 7% Description: A quick combo cancel that you can pull off for some average damage or just to get away from a bad situation. -----------------------------------Spin Cancel Beta----------------------------- How to use: Up x3 on R3. If you pulled it off you swing twice and spin while attacking. Damage %: 10% then 9% then 8% Description: This is a great 3 hit combo/cancel. The spin seems to hit higher areas of a wyverns body (like its stomach) when used. Even better, is that there is very little recovery time. ----------------------------------Twin Scizzorz--------------------------------- How to use: Down on R3 Damage %: 12% then 6% Description: This move hits twice with one attack, simultaneously. This is the best single offensive attack that the DS has. Its best used as a combo STARTER or to simple go for a good solid hit on your foe. =================================Mode Two: Fury================================= This is the mode everyone seems to think is "BLOW MY GOD"(BMG!) goodness. Its easy to tell if you're in this mode, simply because you glow red and will constantly lose stamina. That's right, you CONSTANTLY lose stamina. However, in this mode, your attack is boosted by 5% and you can't be knocked down by "minor" blows. You also gain anti-wind while in this state. Needless to say, this mode requires mega juices, or power juices to unlock its FULL potential. --------------------------------------BOOT!------------------------------------- How to use: Press R3 inward Damage %: 2% Description: You can only use this "Attack" when your weapon is sheathed. EVEN in Fury Mode, Don't bother using it unless its to stall a kelbi or something.... -----------------------------------Blazing UpperCut----------------------------- How to use: Roll with O, then Up on R3 during roll. Damage %: 20% Description: This could easily be one of the best attacks FM(Fury Mode) has. Not only is it evasive, it deals more damage than Normal's BUC. Like its brother, it can EASILY be chained into a combo, making it very useful. --------------------------Fury Of A Million Dragons----------------------------- How to use: Down on R3 Damage %: 28% then 5% then 5% then 5% then 5% then 5% then 5% then 5% then 5% then 33%. (geez... thats a lot of "Then 5%"...) Description: Yeah, I know. The name sounds either A: Stupid. Or B: Awesome. No matter what you think of what I doub'd this attack, its actually a bad idea to abuse it. Its a toss up, really... I don't know whether or not to say "it sucks",or to go "YEAH BABY!" as it has so many ups and downs. Well, I guess I'll start with reasons to use it. For one, this attack can break a tail off with the least bit of effort, but that's only if you can get someone to distract the said tail's owner long enough to hit it... Another good reason to use it is to knock a wyvern down. In the "line" of weapon types, this is number two on the "easy knock down list". Now, for why to avoid it. Sharpness; it EATS sharpness like no bodies business. Not that Dual Swords are the pinacle of sharpness, but 6 FMD's and you're dull with Dual Dragon Ultimus. And DDU has some pretty decent sharpness for duals... Another reason, is because it leaves you OPEN. This attack is one of the ONLY reasons why people using Dual Swords get sacked by various attacks. And looking at the percentages... 5% Times 8... Give me a break. The attack's start and end deal more damage. But after some testing against Basarios... This isn't really that bad of an attack. Honestly, there WILL be times in which you MUST spam this attack. Gravios, Diablos, Monoblos... Are 3 key examples. Why? Grav's legs/head and tail (which you can easy cut off) all deflect. Diablos? Same thing, cept his head same thing with Monoblos. And unless you magically pull Dual Chrome Razors* or something else along those lines out of your ass, you're not getting ANYTHING in terms of reach. Does this mean its OK to spam it? Against situations like that, yeah. Or when you have yellow sharpness (the guage is a normal sword that DOESN'T glow at this point) and you're going to deflect a lot, use it... And often. (*note: For the new guy/girl reading this, or someone who can't detect anything 2 inches past their face... Dual Chromes don't and never will exist... I was refering to the range of a great sword.) -----------------------------Hyper Spin:Left Radius----------------------------- How to use: Left on R3 Damage %: 13% then 10% then 8%. (2nd set of spins) 13% then 10% then 8%. Description: You remember the left spin slash. This is LSS, on steriods. This attack hits up to SIX times and is good for breaking parts off of wyverns. It is however, slow on the dismount and may leave you open to a beating during certain fights. -----------------------------Hyper Spin: Right Radius--------------------------- How to use: Right on R3 Damage %: 13% then 10% then 8%. (2nd set of spins) 13% then 10% then 8%. Description: Right Spin Slash? Screw you. Like LSS, this is RSS on crack. This attack also hits up to SIX times and is excellent for breaking parts. However, like its opposite polarity, it can/will leave you open to a savage offensive if you're not careful. -----------------------------------Mode Change---------------------------------- How To Use: R1 Damage %: 0% Description: It changes you over to Mode One: Normal. ---------------------------------Over Head Hell--------------------------------- How to use: Up on R3 Damage %: 18% Description: This is the "advanced" basic attack for FM. Like NM, this attack is easy to combo or chain to other types of DS attacks. Pretty well rounded AND it can be combo'ed? I'd suggest learning how to use this attack well.... ------------------------------Spin Cancel Alpha Omega--------------------------- How to use: Up X2 on R3 Damage %: 10% then 9% Description: A slightly more powerful version of the SCA. Leave little room for error (or... Counter attacks from your target...) ------------------------------Spin Cancel Demon Beta---------------------------- How to use: Up X3 on R3 Damage %: 8% then 10% then 20% Description: Yeah, this one's LAST hit surprized the hell out of me. But believe it or not, this is ONE OF the best "attacks" a Dual Sword can have. For some reason, the last hit is surprizingly high on the damage spectrum. Use this offensively or offensive-defensive in case you need to pull away from your target(s). =====================================Combos===================================== This section is dedicated to SOME of various combos that Dual Sword users can use. I will NOT except your combos, save your emails. This is basically to start off new DS users on their way to mastering them. -----------------------------------Dragon Dive---------------------------------- How to pull off: Down on R3, wait until the animation finishes, Upx(up to 7). Difficulty: Moderate Mode: Normal Description: This attack is pretty good. It starts off with a TS, then blends into a UpX combo. This can hit up to 9 times. (2 for TS, 7 for UpX). This isn't the fastest/safest combo in the world, but it will deal some damage quickly. ---------------------------Fury of a Million Dragons:Remix---------------------- How to pull off: Up on R3 (one to three times works best), then down on R3. Difficulty: Easy Mode: Fury Description: A mixture of a solid combo with a confusing attack. This can hit anywhere from 3-13 times. This DOES leave you open to an attack, so use it when you KNOW you're in the clear. ------------------------------------Mode Cross---------------------------------- How to pull off: Up or Down on R3, R1, Up or Down on R3. Difficulty: Moderate-Hard Mode: Normal then Fury Description: This is debatable combo. Some say its too slow to be a combo, some say that its still a combo. Well, for the sake of "gaming" it IS a combo, as it depends on how quickly to press the "buttons". First off, it seems to work best in NM, so start there. Over Head Slash one or two times, then Mode Change and then QUICKLY hit up or down. (Left and Right works too, but seems to leave you pretty open to a beating.) If you did it right it should look like this: Slash(es)-> Arms in the air -> More slash(es) or FMDs. ---------------------------------------UpX-------------------------------------- How to pull off: Tap Up on R3 (up to) 7 times. Difficulty: Very Easy Mode: Both Description: Simple. Hit Up on R3 as many times as possible, or as you see fit. This is a pretty standard combo and will deal a good ammount of damage to your foes. ====================================Pros and Cons=============================== This is basically compairing the good and bad things about dual swords. This will be brief, but you'll get the point... Pros: +Fast Movements when drawn +Quick attacks +2nd Best knock down rate in the game +Excellent for combos and chains +Has two modes +Well balanced +Usable with Yellow sharpness +Nearly Unstagerable in Fury Mode. Cons: -Sharpness gets eaten away pretty fast -Can't block (mode trigger replaces block) -Most of the better attacks leave you open -Elemental Duals have LOW elemental attacks (Dual Dragon U. has the highest) -Generally LOW attack power -Bounces off heavy shells unless your using FM half the time -Unstable in Normal Mode xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx 3. Dual Sword Paths xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Alright. This is where I basically explain what you need to make the final versions of dual swords. You'll notice that I won't be doing every "series" as I don't see anyone seriously sticking with bone scythe+. However, I will not leave them out, as I'll have to show you what path everything comes from. ============================A Word About Elements=============================== Ok, elements are well, important. Elements can make a weapon with 80+ attack and make it cripple a wyvern. (You know what weapon I'm talking about folks) Elements can make or break a fight. Unfortunately for us in the US, MH doesn't have ANY kind of 2nd party elements (EX: STUN, POISON, SLEEP, KNOCK OUT), but there is a dual sword set for each of the main four elements. However, the actual elemental damage of these duals, suck. I will be using elemental status from MHG. These may or may not be correct for our version of MH, but it should give you a clue as to how elements are vs attack power. So, without further wait, on to the complete list of dual swords you can make. ===================================Cutlass+===================================== Path: Bone Scythe> Bone Scythe+> Cutlass> Cutlass+ HR: 0 -Bone Scythe Attack: 154 Element: N/A -Bone Scythe+ Attack: 168 Element: N/A -Cutlass Attack: 182 Element: 120 Water +1 Defense -Cutlass+ Attack: 210 Element: 210 Water + 3 Defense Description: The only Pre-HR13 water duals. Seeing as there are only two water duals in the entire game, it wouldn't be a bad idea to make these. With decent attack and decent water element, these things will rip things a new one. Just be careful, their green sharpness is very low... So you gotta bring a lot of whetstones... ====================================Cyclone===================================== Path: Twin Dagger> Twin Dagger +> Hurricane> Hurricane+> Cyclone HR: 0 -Twin Dagger Attack: 98 Element: N/A -Twin Dagger+ Attack: 112 Element: N/A -Hurricane Attack: 140 Element: N/A -Hurricane+ Attack: 182 Element: N/A -Cyclone Attack: 238 Element: N/A Description: The ONLY metal dual sword set. These can be a major pain to make at times, as alot of people don't mine. With decent attack and some pretty damn good sharpness, these can last you for a long time. It may not have an element, but that doesn't mean its a bad thing; nothing can resist it. ===================================Dual Diablo+================================= Path: Dual Diablo> Dual Diablo+ HR: 13+ -Dual Diablo Attack: 252 Element: Defense +4 -Dual Diablo+ Attack: 335 Element: Defense +5 Description: I've never seen anyone sport these. I don't know why. 300+ for a dual set with GREEN sharpness? Holy poopers batman! These have the HIGHEST attack for usable duals in the entire game. (Note: USABLE.) Now, their sharpness isn't exactly "WHOMG!", but these things are fairly easy to make. The only problem is the ONE Majestic Horn it needs down the road. Now you ask "is it worth the Diablos+ and Monoblos runs?" Yes. If you can, make these. Just bring some whetstones... And by some, I mean... A lot. ===============================Dual Dragon Ultimus============================== Path: Double Dragon> Dual Dragon Ultimus HR:17+ -Double Dragon Attack: 266 Element: 220 Dragon -Dual Dragon Ultimus Attack: 294 Element: 280 Dragon Description: I hear a lot of positive things about DDU. Like its dragon element and its sharpness and all this other good stuff... Well, its true. These have the best elemental number of all the dual swords. Not only is their attack up there on the scale (For duals, atleast), their element isn't too far behind. Sharpness? Their not the sharpest duals in the world, but their sharpness makes them more than usable... Hell, Double Dragon, its basic form is semi-usable too ....Could they make these a little more broken? ==================================Dual Tomahawk================================= Path: Dual Tomahawk> Dual Tomahawk+ Hr: 13+ -Dual Tomahawk Attack: 252 Element: N/A -Dual Tomahawk+ Attack: 350 Element: N/A Description: UGH! UGH! ...Yes, note the awesome attack power. Peachy. DT, the base form is used to make one of three duals. Unfortunately, its OWN final form, the DT+, sucks. Yes, 350 attack. Highest of all duals... I see that, thank you. However, its sharpness? NEVER touches green. What does this mean? It means, to use these, you must do the following: 1. Bring Mega Juices. 2. Bring Whetstones, for it will eventually get into orange sharpness. 3. Spam the 'FMD' attack over and over again. 4. Pray you don't die. That's right, these things are BARELY usable. .7 of your attack, yeah... I'd rather stick with Insector+ or Guild Saber, thank you very much... If its any consolation.... They are kinda cool looking.... ==================================Gradios Ultimus=============================== Path: Bone Scythe> Bone Scythe+> Gradios> Gradios+> Gradios Ultimus HR: 0 -Bone Scythe Attack: 154 Element: N/A -Bone Scythe+ Attack: 168 Element: N/A -Gradios Attack: 196 Element: 180 Fire -Gradios+ Attack: 224 Element: 220 Fire -Gradios Ultimus Attack: 252 Element: 250 Fire Description: The most under-rated duals in the game. I say this because of their sharpness. Yes, I MUST admit, their green sharpness... Well.... Sucks.... BUT, at least they have it, making them usable.... Believe it or not, if you don't use 'FMD', they'll last for a while before you have to sharpen/spam FMD. Their fire element is the 2nd highest element of the dual swords, and they waste Khezu (god I hate Khezu) pretty quickly. Make these, atleast for your collection they need a good home... After all, they are Rath duals... ===================================Guild Saber================================== Path: Dual Tomahawk> Guild Rapier> Guild Rapier+> Guild Saber HR: 13+ -Dual Tomahawk Attack: 252 Element: N/A -Guild Rapier Attack: 210 Element: 140 Water -Guild Rapier+ Attack: 224 Element: 190 Water -Guild Saber Attack: 238 Element: 230 Water Description: Ah the 2nd of the 2 water duals. These are better than Cutlass+, so if you're HR 13 and looking for better water duals, these are "it". With +10 water element, +38 attack, these are a worthy "upgrade" (remember, they come from DT...UGH....) from Cutlass+. Guild Sabers are a pain to make, with all the jewel and guild tickets needed, but they ARE worth it. These are well balanced and won't eat 20 of your whetstones... ===================================Guillotine=================================== Path: Prototype Saw Slicer> Guillotine HR: 13+ -Prototype Saw Slicer Attack: 224 Element: 120 Thunder -Guillotine Attack: 266 Element: 180 Thunder Description: Kirin duals. These obviously, are from the Kirin Event. You won't get these anywhere else, so I'd make them just for that, if anything... But, to tell you the truth, these are HIGHLY over-rated. I love the chain-saw theme, I really do. That's why its so hard to admit that they barely make a dent in things... Yes, the attack is nice, but DDU's BASE attack is 226. Ok, so its got nice attack? What about the sharpness? Its average. These are more than usable based on sharpness. So what's wrong with them? Their LOW element... Yeah, 180 element... That's REALLY low, even for dual swords. Not only is the element really low, but Guillotine seems to only make a dent in things weak vs thunder element anyway... ====================================Insector+=================================== Path: Dual Tomahawk> Insector> Insector+ Hr: 13+ -Dual Tomahawk Attack: 252 Element: N/A -Insector Attack: 252 Element: N/A -Insector+ Attack: 322 Element: N/A Description: Ah yes. The famed Insector+. These are pretty damn good. Not only is the attack pretty high, but its sharpness LAUGHS at every thing elses guages. Yes, these are some of the sharpness weapon's', if not duals, in MH. Does this mean you should make them? You bet your ass. They DON'T need an element either, due to its balance of sharpness and power... If you don't abuse FMD, these will probably last you the whole fight without needing a whetstone. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx 4. Wyvern Elemental Status xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx I've done alot of testing with the main stream wyverns. I know, I left out Velocidrome and Lao and what not, fear not, that's down in the *others* part of this section. The "guide" to each elemental status per wyvern will be "Scaled". Like this, Best To worse: Excellent, Great, Good, Normal, Poor, Negated The chart will be like this: Attribute: (what element(s) a wyvern is) Dragon: (how well does dragon work on it? You better hope so, DDU>you X3.) Fire: (Does fire burn your foe to cinders?) Thunder: (Shocking, isn't It? Lets hope so) Water: (FLOODING Wyverns is always fun... if they're weak vs water...) Rec: Recommended Duals for the job. Misc: Bonus info for the bored/unknowning. With testing, I've found that Negated elements deal NOTHING to the wyvern. So, if you can help it, don't use a Gradios Ultimus on a Rathalos or Gravios... Also keep in mind, I didn't have to go through all this trouble, so DON'T have the ignorance to tell me I'm wrong. Unless you spent the time I did testing, shut your pie hole and learn how to be greatful. This is here to aid Dual Sword users and everyone else. ==================================Basarios====================================== Basarios is a tricky wyvern. See, I USED to think he was weak vs water. Turns out that water is his attribute. Pretty surprizing eh? Throw on some Plesioth gear, you'll see that you take less damage. Thrown on Hornet+ eh? Notice that his rushes deal more damage? There you go. He's water elemented. Look at his status, you might be surprized to find that somehow a water attributed wyvern is least affected by Thunder, yet Dragon deals MORE damage... Yeah, they fixed that in MHG, so enjoy Dragon element for now X3. Attribute: Water/Poison Dragon: Excellent Fire: Normal Thunder: Poor Water: Poor Rec: Cyclone, Dual Dragon Ultimus, Insector+ Misc: -All 2nd party elements work on him and traps do too. -Basarios is water based, yet doesn't negate water element... =================================Cephadrome===================================== This is basically a Cephalos on steroids. Same Weakness, same attributes. Hell the thing is literally a mini-plesioth, as its resistances are nearly the same. Yes, like Basarios, he is WATER based. However, unlike Basarios... He's actually vulnerable to Fire/Thunder and even his OWN element. Yeah... When I ran up to Cephadrome with Plesioth Water Sword, I didn't expect it to die that quickly.... Attribute: Water Dragon: Negated Fire: Great Thunder: Excellent Water: Good Rec: Cyclone, Dual Diablo+, Gradios Ultimus, Guillotine, Insector+ Misc: -Sonic Bombs, Sm Barrel Bombs, Lg Barrel Bombs, and well timed blows will flush him out. -Ceph' is water based, yet water does a pretty decent chuck of damage to it... ====================================Diablos===================================== Ah yes, no one seems to like fighting Diablos anymore. Wanna know why? Because they either Head Lock, or they use Dragon element. That's right, Diablos laughs at Dragon element, so don't bring it. Unlike most other wyverns, Diablos doesn't have any form of Attribute, so, you don't have to worry about your own armor resistances. Just stress high defense and you'll be fine. Oddly enough, wait until you see what the test pounded out.... Diablos has no REAL weakness. He takes more damage from Water than anything else... Nice to know about the "tunneling tank", eh? Attribute: None Dragon: Poor Fire: Good Thunder: Good Water: Great Rec: Cutlass+, Cyclone, Dual Diablo+, Guild Saber, Insector+ Misc: -Diablos has no REAL weakness. -Poison lasts for exactly 1 minute. -Sonics flush Diablos out like a pit-fall trap, as well does well timed Crags. =====================================Gravios==================================== Gravios gives everyone trouble. Maybe more so than Diablos. That's debated. But I have pincered out his weaknesses and I'm shocked to find that Dragon element, like Basarios affects him the most out of the main stream elements. Hopefully, you're not packing fire/thunder based weapons (Guils and Grad. U) other wise you'll be in for a LONG fight. Gravios is known for his fire elemented beam, but few know that his attacks actually have fire element in them. Throw on Rathalos armor, and give Gravios a try. You'll notice a minor diffrence... Gravios is still a powerhouse, even with fireresistance or sleep prevention, so always keep on your toes. Attribute: Fire/Sleep Dragon: Excellent Fire: Negated Thunder: Poor Water: Great Rec: Cutlass+, Cyclone, Dual Diablo+, Guild Saber, Insector+ Misc: -Flashes are nearly useless to DS users, you can't block his screams. -Gravios can be "pincered" in area 4 of the Volcano, if you're fast enough. =====================================Gypceros=================================== Gyps, as well all know him as, is one of the easiest wyverns to beat. However, even this little bastard can throw in some sucker punches. Not only can he poison you with his breath, but he can knock you out with his light. Rookies always fall for his "special" attack, those of you who have beaten Gyps, know exactly what I'm talking about... As well all know, Gypie no likie fire... Attribute: Poison Dragon: Poor Fire: Excellent Thunder: Poor Water: Poor Rec: Cyclone, Dual Diablo+, Gradios Ultimus, Insector+ Misc: -You can block all of Gyps attacks, even the flash. -Gyps always runs in a set patturn. -He's obviously immune to flash, but CAN be poisoned. =====================================Khezu====================================== I've never once seen anyone go "I like Khezu". Never. Gunners know why. Blade Masters know why. No matter which way you slice it, Khezu sucks. His armor doesn't, but he does. Screw you Khezu.... Here's Khezu's Data... Now go away. Attribute: Thunder/Stun Dragon: Poor Fire: Great Thunder: Negated Water: Normal Rec: Cyclone, Dual Diablo+, Gradios Ultimus, Insector+ Misc: -Khezu is lame. -Khezu is blind. -ONE element does anything to it and it resists all 2nd party elements... -God, I hate Khezu... ====================================Monoblos==================================== Monoblos, like Diablos has no element. Meaning, stress HIGH defense when you run into him... Offline.... During his quest... In which he appears.... Yeah, it does SUCK that Monoblos is offline only. He's like Diablos, except for the amped super-mega-frenzy mode. (Ala 4 red dots on skull) Like Diablos, Poison hurts him something fierce, so don't be afraid to use it... Attribute: WHAT ATTRIBUTE? HE LEFT HIS HOME! (... None) Dragon: Normal Fire: Good Thunder: Good Water: Excellent Rec: Cutlass+, Cyclone, Dual Diablo+, Guild Saber, Insector+ Misc: -Monoblos takes more damage than Diablos does to water element. -Monoblos is very vulnerable to Poison, stun and sleep elements. -Sonics/well timed crags pop him out of the ground too. =====================================Plesioth=================================== I can't believe I completely forgot Plesioth in the 1st version of this Faq. Plesioth is obviously water based and being of the larger wyverns, packs a major punch. Attribute: Water/Sleep Dragon: Poor Fire: Great Thunder: Excellent Water: Negated Rec: Cyclone, Gradios Ultimus, Guillotine, Insector+ Misc: -Sonic bombs fish him out. -Flashes don't work. -Frogs can be used to fish him out. -I've killed Plesioth with a Frog before X3. -You can Kill, Poison, stun, and put Plesioth to sleep, while its under water. =====================================Rathalos=================================== Oh, the emails I'm going to get about this one. I can see it now.... "Akubarix, Rathalos is REALLY HURT by Thunder/Water elements, his armor says so." Yes, well sit down and drink bleach little Timmy, because hours of testing say otherwise. Not saying to leave T/W elements home, but don't think they deal "ZOMG! LEET|" damage because your BLADE MASTER armor tells you that....Rathalos, obviously negates Fire, so don't bring it to this fight. Attribute: Fire/Poison Dragon: Excellent Fire: Negated Thunder: Good Water: Good Rec: Cutlass+, Cyclone, Dual Dragon Ultimus, Guild Saber, Insector+ Misc: -Rathalos flies more than any other wyvern. -Flash bombs knock Rathalos out of the air, if timed right. -Rathalos' claw attack is leathal; Poison and Knock Out in ONE attack. -Rathalos flees back to area 5 when its weak enough to kill. -Rathalos will NOT attack you while it flees back to area 5. -Rathalos rarely sleeps when you're in the same area, unless it doesn't notice you. -Rathalos has the most Misc data on this Faq. ===================================Rathian====================================== OH SNAP! FEMALE RATHALOS! SHE IS HEWT! Well techinically, she is.. Like Rathalos, she's fire/poison based and she won't back down. Remember one thing when fighting Rathian... BACK FLIP, BACK FLIP, BACK FLIP. She also takes more water damage than Rathalos does, interesting eh? Attribute: Fire/Poison Dragon: Excellent Fire: Negated Thunder: Good Water: Great Rec: Cutlass+, Cyclone, Dual Dragon Ultimus, Guild Saber, Guillotine, Insector+ Misc: -Her back-flip has caused more deaths than ANY single attack of all the wyverns combined. -Rathian acts like Rathalos when weak. -Rathian rarely flies away. -Rathian's back flip ends in a stomp, so don't stand under her. -Rathian makes awesome cookies. ==================================Yian Kut Ku=================================== If I had to put money on which wyvern the others gather around and call "NOOB!" I'd beat it'd be Kut Ku. Kut Ku has crappy defenses and even the elements he resists, kick the crap out of it. Believe it or not, he was the hardest to get accurate elemental data on, because I kept killing it before I could make any definate note... I got some Giant Beaks though, so its win/win for everyone. Attribute: Fire Dragon: Poor Fire: Good Thunder: Great Water: Excellent Rec: Anything, it's so weak it doesn't matter... Misc: -Kut Ku has his own 'status effect' "daze". (Use a bomb or sonic on him) -Kut Ku gets laughed at by mosswine. -Kut Ku is gewd for making money. -Kut Ku takes a beating from the 2nd party status elements, so have fun. ===================================*Others*===================================== This is the "junk yard". Why? Because I didn't feel like grouping dragons with wyverns.... "BUT AKU! YOU PUT CEPHADROME IN THERE!"... He's both though... So meh. I'm also leaving out Fatalis, Kirin and Lao. Why? Because it'd cause alot of "ruckus" if I told you what they're weak vs and blah blah. So, here are the 3 missing dromes. Yes, their minions, like Cephadrome, share the same traits. -----------------------------------Gendrome------------------------------------- Attribute: Stun Dragon: Normal Fire: Good Thunder: Excellent Water: Good Misc: -You can stun these stupid things. -They're the coolest of the 3 boss raptors. -Any attack they use, can stun you. -----------------------------------Iodrome-------------------------------------- Attribute: Poison Dragon: Negated Fire: Poor Thunder: Normal Water: Excellent Misc: -I hate Iodrome. -They can only poison you with their 'spit'. -Good source of Poison Sacs. ---------------------------------Velocidrome------------------------------------ Attribute: Water (big surprize there) Dragon: Excellent Fire: Normal Thunder: Good Water: Poor Misc: -These are the only way to get Velocidrome Claws. -Yes, people actually didn't know this. -God I hate people. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx 5.
