////////////////////////////////////////////////////      I. INTRODUCTION
===============================================================================

Road Trip a Racing/RPG/Adventure for the Playstation 2. Road Trip is part of
a popular game series in Japan known as Choro Q. Over twenty of these games
have been made and sadly, only a few have left Japan. Road Trip in Japan is
Choro Q HG 2 and is not only one of the best localized Choro Q games, but one
of the best games for PS2. Despite this, Road Trip will more than likely be
overlooked because of it's cover, which leads you to believe it's just
another cutesy racing game. So go on and convince your friends to buy Road
Trip. Hopefully it sells well enough for them to bring another one overseas!

                                   Controls
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

These are the default game controls for Road Trip.
Controls may be changed in the menu.

Car Controls:

Steer: Directional Buttons or Left Analog Stick
   Accelerate: X
   Brake: Square
   Reverse: Circle
   Change View: Triangle
Start: Menu (Pauses game during race)
   Select: Zoom in/out Radar Display
   Wing Up: L1
   Wing Down: L2

=========================================================================[@004]
                                Screen Display
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Map Radar: Located on the bottom-left part of the screen. Part of the Map
Radar will flash green when you have a new email. Here's how to read it:

  -Green Dots: Other Vehicles
  -Black Dots: Quick Pic Shops
  -Brown Dots: Houses
  -Blue Dots: Q's Factory

Dashboard: Located in the bottom right part of the screen. Depending on
which "Meter" item you're using, the layout will vary. This is for the
  default meter.

-RPMs: The numbers around the outside of the dashboard display your RPMs.

-Fuel: On the right side is the fuel display. It'll decrease as you drive
and eventually blink and run out, making your car drive very slowly.
Entering any building will fill up your tank again automatically. Engines
with a higher energy rating eat up fuel quickly.

-Gear: On the left of the fuel display is a number that displays your
   current gear.

-Speed: The large number on the bottom next to "mph" is your speedometer.
This displays your current speed in Miles Per Hour (mph).

-Time: At the very bottom of the speedometer is a clock. The number shows
what time it is using 24-hour time. The picture on the left is a visual
   display of the time.

=========================================================================[@005]
                                 Game Modes
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

From the title screen when you turn on your game you have 5 Choices:

Adventure: This is the primary single player mode in Road Trip. You can choose
New Game to start a new save, or Continue to resume from a previous save.

Quick Race: Like it sounds- pick a course a race.

2 Player: Only appears if two controllers are plugged in to the PS2. If you
and a friend both have saves on separate memory cards, you can pit your
custom rides against each other in a number of different race types.

Options: Change Vibration, Speaker and Sound Settings.

Results: Check your standings in a variety of different races such as
Endurance Run and Tin Raceway. Not really useful unless you want to see your
  times without entering the game.

=========================================================================[@006]
                                    Menu
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Pressing START during regular play will bring up the main menu. This menu will
not appear while inside a building or during a race.

Warp: Choose a city from the list and you'll instantly be warped to the Q's
  Factory in that city.

Notebook: Contains information on everything you've completed. The Notebook's
appearance will change as you gain different licenses.

-Stamps: Stamps are given when you complete certain tasks. There are 100 in
all. See Chapter VI for more details.

-Pictures: This is an album of all the pictures you have taken at the 100
Quick-Pic Shops around the world. See Chapter VII for more details.

-Results: This is a log of all the race results for you and your teammates.
It also includes your scores on some mini-games.

Radio: Choose from two available radio stations. Channel 1 is Peach FM and has
songs with vocals. Station 2 is E-Radio which is just music and I this is
what I have mine set to. You can choose off if you don't wish to listen to
music. Pressing Up on the D-Pad increases the volume and pressing Down on
  the D-Pad decreases the volume.

Items: In the upper-right corner is your money display. Below that are some
important stats including mileage and Choro Q Coins collected. Also listed
are Advertisements, which I will explain later in this chapter. In the sky
blue box on the left is your current list of items and below that is a
description of the item currently highlighted.

Settings: Here you can change the default controls. Highlight the one you
want and press left or right to pick a new button setting. Press Apply to
save changes. To revert to the default controls, press enter on Initial
  Settings.

Map: This option displays the entire world map. Your current position is the
  blinking red car icon.

                                    Shops
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q's Factory: There's one in every town. You can do a variety of things here:

-Change Parts: Choose which Tires, Engine, Chassis, Transmission, Steering,
Brake, Wheel, Lights, Wing Set, Special Parts, Options, Sticker, Horn, Meter
and Body you want for you and your teammates.

-World Grand Prix: This appears when you have completed every A-License race.
   It's a six round championship.

-Race: Choose from the city's current race list. You can only compete in
races you have a license for.

-Save Data: Save your game here. I recommend you do so often.

-Quit Game: Quits the current game and brings you back to the title screen.

-Drive Around Town: Exits the Q's Factory.

Parts Shop: Buy various parts for your car. Some items are town-exclusive.

Body Shop: Buy different bodies for your car. For aesthetics only. You can't
  change teammates' bodies.

Paint Shop: Change the color of your car or your teammates'. Choose from one
or two colors. You can paint the rims at an additional cost.

Recycle Shop: Sell your unwanted and/or outdated parts here.

Bar: Get tips on Choro Q Coin locations from the bartender.

Local Businesses: Give you billboards that earn you money per mile you drive
with them. Be sure to stop back at the business to collect your cash.

Quick-Pic Shop: Make memories by having your picture taken at one of the
100 Quick-Pic Shops around the world.

[@008]=========================================================================
/////////////////////////////////////////////////////      III. LOCATIONS
===============================================================================

Hierarchy: Where a location appears on your Warp list in the menu.

Peach Town
----------

"Town full of peach trees"
Hierarchy: 2
Races: Peach Raceway, Peach Raceway II

Description: Peach Town is the city you'll start your game in. It offers a
limited selection of parts, but the races here are the fastest way to make
money in the first half of the game. Peach Town also has a large number of
good teammates to choose from, which will be invaluable early on.

Fuji City
---------

"City has a big castle"
Hierarchy: 3
Races: Ninja Temple Raceway, Temple Raceway

Fuji City is by far my favorite city to look at, especially from the
mountaintop viewpoint. It has a decent selection of parts, some excellent
teammates and a variety of things to do. Fuji City also contains one of the
most frustrating aspects in the game: The Dreaded Maze. You may make it
through once, but under 3 minutes is near impossible without a guide.
Luckily for you, I sat down with some graph paper and mapped out the maze.
Here's the link:

http://db.gamefaqs.com/console/ps2/file/road_trip_fuji_treasure_maze.gif

My City
-------

"Your own city to develop"
Hierarchy: 10
Races: Endurance Run, Q's Rally

My City is the most useful and complete city in the game. Basically, you
tell people about your town, and they'll move there and open up all kinds of
houses and shops. It has everything you'll need and will eventually become
the hub for all activities and purchases in the game. It contains My Garage
and innumerable mini-games and teammates. Plus, it's fun to watch your town
grow and develop.

My City Inhabitants:
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Name | Where They're Found
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Corban | Peach Town
Flower | Peach Town
Q's Factory | Gonzo in Peach Town
Body Shop | Ramsy in Peach Town
Accel | Peach Town
Brian | Fuji City
Coine | Fuji City
Gichi | Fuji City
Ryoji | Sandpolis
Akiban | Sandpolis
Roberts | Sandpolis
Dayan | Sandpolis
George | Sandpolis
Kuwano | Chestnut Canyon
Saucy | Chestnut Canyon
Sally | White Mountain
Manei | White Mountain
Parts Shop | Suess in White Mountain
Mien | Papaya Island (Water Skiing)
Paint Shop | Nouri in Papaya Island
Velvet | Automatic After Brian
Gump | Automatic After Ryoji
Sylvester | Automatic After Dayan
Arnold | Automatic After Roberts
Rally Center | Automatic
Recycle Shop | Automatic

My Garage
---------

"Warp to your garage anytime"
Hierarchy: 1

While your garage isn't a city, it's a very important location that you'll no
doubt visit very often. It contains your email, wall patterns and lets you
pick from a list of minigames you've encountered during your adventure.

Sandpolis
---------

"City of glaring neon lights"
Hierarchy: 4
Races: Desert Raceway, Night Glow Raceway

Sandpolis is the first big city you'll find on your adventure. It's packed
with places to see and things to do, most importantly of which is the soccer
mini-game. While you may find it easy to beat the computer, playing soccer
against your friends is a blast. It can't be overstated; this is a big city.
It may take you a while to find all of the houses here.

Chestnut Canyon
---------------

"City of steep rocky valleys"
Hierarchy: 5
Races: Miner 49er Raceway, Lava Run Raceway

Chestnut Canyon is a small village built on a range of mountain cliffs.
There's not much to do here, but you can create a personal greeting that the
townspeople here will use, which is kind of cool. Mine was "sup".

Mushroom Road
-------------

"Mushroom grows around the road"
Hierarchy: 6
Races: River Raceway, Slick Track, Oval Raceway

This small niche city contains only a few things, namely golf and a lake
goddess, but no cars! Maybe it's just me, but the goddess reminds me of the
waterfall fairy in Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past. Anyways, the parts
shop sells good tires, and there are three different races, but other than
that, there's not much to do here.

White Mountain
--------------

"Mountain covered with snow"
Hierarchy: 7
Races: Snow Mountain Raceway

White Mountain is another large city that will take you quite a while to see.
Marvel at the ski jump, practice curling and don't forget to be good for
Santa. Yes, White Mountain has it all and a bag of chips. Here you'll find
a plethora of teammates and useful parts, as well as some useful items such
as the invaluable Coin Radar.

Papaya Island
-------------

"Island with natural beauty"
Hierarchy: 8
Races: Sunny Beach Raceway, Lagoon Raceway

When you're all stressed out from racing, take a relaxing vacation on the
beaches of beautiful Papaya Island. Here you'll find exotic locales, as well
as special parts and mini-games. Enjoy waterskiing and fishing in this
island paradise. And when you're all rested up, catch a rainbow to Cloud
Hill, the home of the president.

Cloud Hill
----------

"Floating island with rainbow"
Hierarchy: 9
Races: Tin Raceway

Cloud Hill feels like an exclusive member's club in the sky. Certain items
and areas won't be available until you complete almost everything in the
game. But available right off the bat are some excellent teammates, great
parts and cool bodies.

Other Locations
---------------

Windmills, Underwater Ruins, Grand Ocean

These locations are more scenic than anything, but they do provide you with a
few stamps. I've explored the ocean for hours and found no hidden secrets.

#1- The fastest way through this stretch is to disregard the winding road and
plow straight through to the first turn. With some skill, you can remain on
the road the entire time with some very slight moves. This is a great place
to take the lead on the first lap.

If open-ended gameplay scares you, here's a mini-walkthrough to get on you on
your feet, pick up some important items and start raking in the cash.

Start up a new game. Enter your name and your currency. I picked:

Name: Steven
Currency: $

After listening to the president talk, leave the Q's Factory and enter the
Parts Shop, left of the factory. You have $1000 to spend. Buy the Quick
Steering Wheel and the Panther Engine. These are the best parts you can get
right now.

Once you buy the parts, leave the shop, head southeast until you
see a house on your left with a Coffee sign. Enter the building and accept
the offer. You now earn $10 for every mile you drive. To claim your money,
simply return to the coffee shop. Go back to the Q's Factory and equip the
parts.

Now enter the Peach Raceway race and win 1st place two times, for a
total of $600. Now head southeast following the signs that say Next City.
Eventually you'll cross a bridge. Now you're in Fuji City

Enter the Q's Factory on the left side of the road (allowing you to warp
between the two towns). Exit the factory and go to the parts shop. Buy a
Light Chassis. Now find the Noodle Shop where you'll get a new billboard.
Go back to the Q's Factory and equip it and your chassis.

Enter the Ninja Temple Raceway race and win it. Once again, follow the Next
City signs and get on the freeway. Take off on the My City exit on the left.

Drive into the black and white building that says Wonder Realty. Answer yes,
and you're now given a garage and the task of building a city. By talking to
certain cars, you can send them to this city and they'll build houses in it.
You'll also have a fan club. (If not, warp to Peach Town and win another
race) Now by talking to the cars listed in the Teammates section of this
guide, you can recruit cars to your racing team.

I suggest you warp back to Peach Town, recruit two teammates, and then do
whatever you want from here on out! The sky's the limit and you've only just
begun your grand journey!

What, you still want guidance? Here's a few ideas/playstyles to try:

 - Mixed Bag
Don't spend too much time doing one thing. Vary your gameplay to keep from
getting bored. This is the most enjoyable way to play. Just have fun, race a
little bit, do some adventuring, take some pictures. Move on to the next town
when you get tired of the one you're in. It should feel natural to you.

 - Coin Crazy
If you want coins and nothing but, here's a suggestion: begin following the
Choro Q coin guide and find as many as you can as early as you can. You'll get
the great Big Tires after only 50 coins giving you a big head start on races.

 - Adventurer
Forget racing, you want to see the world! Journey around and complete stamps
and build a good collection of parts from gifts. This can be very beneficial
earlier in the game. Refer to the Stamps part of this walkthrough for help on
adventuring.

 - Speed Demon
Adventuring is tedious and boring to you. You just wanna race. My suggestion
is to spend more money on upgrade parts and less on looks.

 - Scrapbooking
You can go to almost every Quick-Pic from the very start of the game. It's
almost useless to do them all early on, considering there's no reward besides
a single stamp for getting all 100, but if you just like to kick back and
travel, this is the playstyle for you.

Money-Making
------------

I really only suggest a serious money-making plan for after you've beat the
game once. Sometimes having all the best stuff right away takes the fun out
of things. Also, by that time you should have a good idea how do it. Here's
a strategy that everyone should use, regardless of how much they've played.

 - Sign Bearer
Wear billboards everywhere you go and start building some revenue. I wear
billboards throughout the entire game. They don't look good, but they provide
a constant stream of cash.

approach them. Whoever stops closest to the edge is the winner! You won't
see the goal until the door slides open!

all the dead-ends. Use this link:

easily. Find the route you can climb. Climb in 2 minutes.

Rules: There are a total of 9 holes. Hit the ball by bumping into it, and try
to knock it into the hole. All you have to do is drop the ball into each
hole. Try to finish the course within or under the par. Par is a certain
number of golf strokes for each hole.

Roulette

 within their time limit. Concentrate!

Volcano Course

Tip: You need some of the best brakes and a lot of patience to complete this.

I can say except practice, and if you're getting frustrated, take a break and
 come back to it later.

You can slide three times, and the total of those slides will be your score.

                         Using & Upgrading Teammates
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In Road Trip, once you've won enough races, you'll gain a fan club, from which
you'll receive emails at your garage in My City. The real benefit of earning
a fan club, however, is the ability to pick teammates from around the world
to race with you!

At any time, you can have up to two teammates. They'll race with you, and if
they place high enough, you'll earn extra winnings!

Your teammates can be upgraded and modified with whatever extra parts you may
have lying around. But Beware! Every time you change their parts, they need
a few races to adjust to them. Over time, they'll become more proficient with
the parts and begin to race faster and smarter. Don't be surprised if you
give them a better engine and they end up placing last, this is normal! Take
them to a few easy races to increase their driving skills before tackling a
tough race with their new parts.

This isn't to say you should keep older parts on your teammates, just because
they're used to them. Don't be lazy! When you find some great new parts, be
sure to upgrade your teammates. A few Peach Raceway runs should only take a
few minutes and your teammates will be better off in the long run.

Skillful teammates have another useful benefit: they give your opponents some
fierce competition and keep the heat off of you!

////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////      VI. FAQ
===============================================================================

Q: Where does ______ My City inhabitant live?
A: See My City in Section III, "Locations" [@008].

Q: How do I get the devil parts?
A: You need to collect all 100 stamps and talk to the car near the Rainbow
   Jump in Could Hill.

Q: I can't beat the Fuji City maze! What should I do?
A: You could use the map I made or just enter the rooms with green grass/moss
on them. Once again, the map's URL is:
   http://db.gamefaqs.com/console/ps2/file/road_trip_fuji_treasure_maze.gif

Q: How do I beat the Volcano Course?
A: There's no "trick" to beating it. You'll need good brake parts and a bit of
   practice to beat the clock.

Q: The correct number of windmills is 22!
A: That's not a question, but those emails haunt my dreams. Thank you for the
correction, everyone that sent it. There are too many people to list them
   all here.

Q: Are you alive?
A: Yes. I'm sorry I haven't updated the guide in a couple years, but I also
haven't played the game in several years.

Q: Why aren't you responding to my emails?
A: One of two reasons: either my flaky email address didn't get it or your
question's already been answered by this guide. I now have a new email
address, so hopefully I won't lose any more emails.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Andrew Lesh
- Found most of the car body's real-life model. One of the biggest
contributors to this guide. I'm terrible at recognizing car models and he
nearly found them all. Thanks a million!

Bkelly
- Thanks for My City inhabitants help!

cheap_scape
- Thanks for stamps 65 & 83!

Duel guy
- Thank you very much for stamps 2, 26, 62 and 65!

Everyone!
- For submitting the correct number of windmills. I've received 32 emails
about this, so thanks to everyone, sorry for the delay of getting this fixed.

Falconer
- This guide update wouldn't be possible without his help. I encountered
some crazy formatting errors that I wasn't able to fix, and this guy
made it happen. He volunteered immediately and made numerous changes
to the format of the guide. I greatly appreciate the help. Thanks so much!

Greg Hardwick
- Special Thanks for addressing the most pressing question about My City
inhabitant locations. Thank you sooooo much!

KaiLastOfTheBrunnenG
- Big thanks for the curling and maze tips! Way to go! (I never would have
  found this stuff)

Kye Bracey
- Thanks to you and your cousin for stamp 62!

Reverend Jim * * *
- Special thanks for his numerous contributions, including nearly all of the
teammate section, for continued support of the guide and for his tireless
efforts on the Road Trip Message Boards. His support is greatly appreciated
and I can honestly say he shaved about 3 weeks off the production time of
  this guide.

RPGamer
- I made the guide so shouldn't I get at least a little credit?

Spider Like Person
- For "Gave a Magazine" stamp.

Tareim
- Thanks for several additions and corrections to the body list. His effort
inspired me to make the first guide update in years, so please give him a
round of applause. Also, for Stamp 74!

Vicente Carro
- Thanks for stamps 64 and 84!

Vivian Makin
- Told me what the ocean's name is. Thanks!
