Introduction MK001

Hello! One of the greatest mysteries of Kingdom Hearts II is the tiny mouse
king, Mickey! Being one of the most (if not THE most) well known fictional
characters there is, not to mention Disney's mascot, you'd expect that there
would be plenty of people who know everything about Mickey, from who his very
first voice actor was to how much MP his Pearl attack consumes. Sadly, although
you'd expect there to be plenty of these people, there are in actuality very
few, and while although I won't delve into voice actors and things like that,
technical info, such as the amount of MP his attacks consume and how much
damage they deal, when and more importantly how you get to play as him, and the
like will be covered in this FAQ.
Now, on to more legal-ey stuff, this FAQ was written by me. Other sources
contributed information, and they will be thanked in the "Closing Statements"
section. This FAQ may only be posted on GameFAQs unless you have my permission.
This FAQ and no part of it may be copied or altered. The most you may take from

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) MK002

Q: Oh no! I got a game over! Wait a minute? What's happening?
A: Congratulations, you were just saved by Mickey.
Q: So I can really play as him?
A: Yes.
Q: Does this happen all the time?
A: In certain battles, there is a chance that Mickey will save you if you die.
Q: Can I play as him outside of these "certain battles"?
A: Without a cheating device, no, you cannot. Sorry to disappoint.
Q: So dying in a certain battle is the only way to play as him?
A: Yes.
Q: But I heard that if you beat the game under the right conditions you get a
secret mode that lets you play through the game as him!
A: Sorry, but whoever told you that was lying. As much as it hurts, dying in a
few handpicked battles is the only way you're going to play as him without
buying a Game Shark, Action Replay, or Code Breaker.
Q: Aw man, that sucks!
A: Yes, yes it does.
Q: Ok, so how is playing as Mickey different from playing as Sora?
A: Well, Mickey relies a lot more on his speed and agility to avoid attacks,
whereas Sora relies more on his brute strength and defensive abilities to take
the hits and shrug them off.
Q: So Mickey's only good for dodging things?
A: Not entirely, Mickey does have extremely ruthless combos, both in the land
and in the air, but you'll want to dodge attacks more because he has such low
health.
Q: So what am I supposed to do when I'm playing as Mickey?
A: If Mickey's HP is reduced to 0, Sora and all your party members will be
revived with 1/2 their full HP.
Q: Only 1/2?
A: Yes, but that's if you let Mickey die. If you use his D-Charge by pressing
the 'Triangle' button to fill up Mickey's Drive Gauge, you can use Healing
Light, which will revive Sora and his comrades with full HP.
Q: So Mickey's a sort of extra-life?
A: Exactly.
Q: Why don't I just kill the boss with Mickey? He seems strong enough.
A: Unfortunately, Mickey cannot kill bosses.
Q: Why not?
A: To deal the finishing hit to a boss, you must use an attack that counts as a
Finisher, and Mickey has none.
Q: Why'd they do that?
A: The developers wanted to show that Mickey didn't fight Sora's battles for
him, he only gave Sora the little extra help when he needed it. That would be
my guess at least.
Q: Is there anything else I need to know?
A: Everything else is explained in later sections.

When Can I Play as Mickey? MK003
===============================================================================
In certain boss battles, if you die there is a chance that rather than going to
the black Game Over screen that shows Sora floating on his back, you'll be
taken to a white screen with two options. These options are:
"I Won't Give Up!"
--Selecting this causes the battle to continue with you in control of Mickey.
"It's All Over..."
--Selecting this is the equivalent of getting a Game Over and takes you to the
regular Game Over screen (the one with Sora floating on his back.)
As for which battles actually have a chance of causing Mickey to appear, there
are 10 battles in which he comes to save you. These battles will be numbered
from 1-10 to make it easier in future sections when referencing the battles he
appears in. These 10 boss battles are:
01-Shan-Yu
02-Thresholder and Possessor
03-Shadow Stalker/Dark Thorn
04-Cerberus (First Battle with Auron)
05-The Hydra
06-Volcanic Lord and Blizzard Lord
07-Storm Rider
08-Xaldin
09-Grim Reaper (First Battle)
10-Xemnas (First Armored Battle)
Keep in mind that if Mickey's saved you before, he might not save you again if
you die on another of these battles. As for the exact chances that he'll
appear, well...

Chances of Obtaining Mickey MK004
===============================================================================
There is a set percent chance that Mickey will come to save you if you die in
one of the 10 battles listed above. These chances are:

There are two things you must keep in mind. The first is that the last
statistic (Fourth and after) means that from the fourth time Mickey saves you
and all other times after that, there will only be a 50% chance that he'll
come.
The second thing to keep in mind is that the game keeps track of how many times
he has saved you and even shows you the total number at the end of the game on
the "Battle Records" screen. The number of times he's saved you is kept
throughout the entire game, so if you die on 01, there is a 100% chance that
he'll save you and with his help you're able to beat the boss without his help
again. Then, later in the game, if you die on 08, there will only be an 80%
chance that he'll save you because he already saved you once earlier in the
game. This means that if you constantly die in the 10 selected battles, than
things will get harder as the game goes on!

What to do When Playing as Mickey MK005
===============================================================================
When you gain control of Mickey in battle, your first priority should be
filling up his Drive Gauge with the D-Charge ability. Unfortunately, your
enemies won't stand there and let you fill up your Drive Gauge. Use Mickey's
fast attacks to knock your enemies back and use D-Charge as much as possible
before they come back at you. Alternatively, you can use Mickey's incredible
jumping ability to get away from your opponent's attacks and use the D-Charge
while they're catching up to you. Keep in mind that Mickey's Drive Gauge still
charges from hitting enemies like Sora's does, but with no abilities to boost
up the speed, the D-Charge will still be your best plan to charge the Drive
Gauge.
If you do plan to fight the opponent, one tip is to try and stay in the air.
While in the air, Mickey has access to more powerful abilities and longer
combos, thus giving him an edge he wouldn't have elsewhere. Here is Mickey's

Take note that the Healing Light Reaction Command can only be used if Mickey's
Drive Gauge has been filled. Other than that, Mickey has no Reaction Commands
including one's triggered by enemies for cinematic attacks.

Mickey's Stats and Levels MK006

Like Sora and all your party members, Mickey gains experience and levels up as
well. Mickey gains the same amount of experience as you do in the same way that
party members of worlds that you currently aren't in do: The experience you
earn is given to him as well but the game doesn't inform you of when he levels

Although Mickey's HP stays at it's relatively low amount throughout the course
of the game, his Defense will get high enough to make up for it (a level 66
Mickey has higher Defense than a level 99 Sora) so he won't be taking as much
damage as Sora does and hopefully will survive longer.

Mickey doesn't have many abilities, but here's a complete list of them.

Due to the fact that Mickey has an Air Combo Plus equipped, it would be best to
try and remain in the air for the majority of the time you're playing as him,
to increase the amount of damage dealt. With Scan, you can see your opponent's
health to know when the best time to change back to Sora would be.

Mickey in Combat MK008
===============================================================================
Mickey has fast attacks, long combos, and great agility, giving him more of an
edge than Sora in combat. His Pearl attack shoots a ball of light that deals
high damage and has significant knock back, yet you can't use it infinitely due
to its MP cost. However, Mickey has no Finishers. (An example of a Finisher is
Sora's move Guard Break.) Finishers are important because, just as the name
implies, they are required to finish boss enemies (meaning that a Finisher move
must be used to deal the killing blow to a boss.) Because Mickey has no
Finishers, he can't kill a boss and you can only get them down to 1 HP at the
lowest before Mickey's attacks start doing no damage (but don't be confused,
they still hit, just the boss's health bar won't go down.) For a complete list
of Mickey's attacks, here's a chart of them.

Note: In they "Type" column, this determines the element of the attack. There
are six total:
W=Weapon, F=Fire, B=Blizzard, T=Thunder, D=Dark, O=Other
This is used to determine what attacks will be stronger or weaker, depending on
the enemy's stats. For example, Sephiroth has a x0 modifier for F, B, T, and D
elements, making all Fire, Blizzard, Thunder, and Dark attacks useless, whereas
Yuffie has a x1.5 modifier for W, so all Weapon attacks will deal 150% of their
normal damage on her. By knowing an enemy's stats and the elements of your
attacks, you can strategize on the best way to deal damage.
