Will update it theres anything new. -------------- - Background - -------------- Name: Xu Chu Style Name: Zhongkang DW Name: Xu Zhu Xu Chu style Zhongkang was a man from Qiao of the Qiao state. He was over eight chi’s in height, his waist was round. His appearance was firm and manly. His courage and strength was above ordinary men. During the end of the Han, at a young age [Xu Chu] and his family clan numbering a thousand held strong and defended against bandits. At the time the Ru Nan thieves numbered over ten thousands that attack Xu Chu’s walls. The crowd with Xu Chu didn’t have enough to resist, the battle was extremely exhausting. When the defenders ran out of arrows, [Xu Chu] gave out orders to the men and women to place rocks on the four walls. Xu Chu hurled the rocks injuring those down below. The thieves dared not to advance. Provisions were lacking, so a truce was called with the thieves. Oxens were exchanged for food from the thieves. When the thieves came to collect the oxen, the oxen fled. Xu Chu came out and with one hand grabbed onto the oxen’s tail, dragging it over one hundred steps. The thieves were frightened and didn’t dare to get the oxen back, so they left. His name was then feared throughout Huai, Ru, Chen and Liang. When Tai Zu [Cao Cao] got Huai and Ru, Xu Chu and his followers submitted to him. Upon seeing him, [Cao Cao] spoke: This is my Fan Kuai. (I) Xu Chu was then promptly promoted to Chief Commandant (du wei) and made a Commandant of the Palace (su wei). Various people saw him as a chivalrous person and all commented him as a tiger soldier (hu shi). (I): Cao Cao was making a comparison between Xu Chu and Fan Kuai of the Former Han dynasty. Fan Kuai was Liu Bang’s personal guards, who saved the latter at the Hong Men banquet. A ‘friendly’ swordplay was planned to execute Liu Bang by Xiang Yu. Thanks to Fan Kuai’s intervention, Liu Bang was able to escape unscathed. This later became the Hong Men banquet scheme, in which it is mentioned in San Guo Yuan Yi a few times. When the attack on Zhang Xiu was made, [Xu Chu] led the attack; it was calculated that he beheaded ten thousand men. Xu Chu was then transferred to be a Colonel (xiao wei). An attack was made on Yuan Shao at Guan Du. At the time, there were some soldiers that planned to mutiny. Xu Chu was usually around in attendance [protecting Cao Cao], thus they didn’t dare stike. They waited until Xu Chu was resting later on in the day before they concealed a dagger to enter. Xu Chu had a suspicious feeling so he returned to duty. They didn’t know this so they entered the tent and saw Xu Chu there. They were startled upon seeing him and their complexions changed. Xu Chu noticing this, quickly killed them. Xu Chu got [Cao Cao’s] personal trust and always accompanied him, never leaving his sight. When attacking Ye, [Xu Chu] had many merits in battle and was bestowed as Marquis of Guan Nei. Afterwards Xu Chu was there for the battle at Tong Gate against Ma Chao and Han Sui. [Cao Cao] went north and crossed the river, first sending the troops. Along with Xu Chu and over one hundred tiger soldiers, they stayed on the southern banks. Ma Chao rushed at [Cao Cao’s] army with over ten thousand cavalry; shooting arrows like it was raining. Xu Chu reported to [Cao Cao] that the traitors were many. And since they ferried many troops across the river it was best for them to depart. Xu Chu helped [Cao Cao] onto a ship. The traitors continued to pour on the pressure. The troops didn’t want to drown and strived to get across. Xu Chu killed those troops on the ship; with his left hand he raised the horse saddle to cover [Cao Cao]. The ship workers were killed by the falling arrows. With his right hand Xu Chu helped ensured the boat to make it across the river. Indeed what a perilous situation they were in that day. Afterwards, [Cao Cao] met up with Han Sui and Ma Chao’s troops on horseback alone to talk. All around there was no one, except General Xu Chu. Ma Chao wanted to secretly attack [Cao Cao] unexpectedly. But he had heard of Xu Chu’s bravery and stayed his hand in doubt on his horse. He asked [Cao Cao]: The Duke has a Tiger Marquis, where is he? [Cao Cao] looked and pointed Xu Chu out. Xu Chu glared angrily with his eyes. Ma Chao dared not to make a move. Many days after, a battle between the two armies clashed with Ma Chao’s alliance suffering defeat. For his merits of beheading many enemies, Xu Chu was made General of the Gentleman of the Household of the Martial Commandant (wu wei zhong lang jiang). The marital guard’s name was started from this. In the army, Xu Chu’s might was like that of a tiger, thus the name ‘tiger’. From when Ma Chao asked for the ‘tiger marquis’; All under Heaven to this day referred to him as this name. Xu Chu’s nature was one that was prudent and cautious; he respected the laws, and was a man of few words. One time Cao Ren came from Jing Zhou to pay respects at court. [Cao Cao] had not came out yet, so he went to see Xu Chu outside the palace. Cao Ren called out to Xu Chu to come sit down and talk. Xu Chu only said these words: The royal general comes, and returned inside the palace. Cao Ren resented this and said to him: why does the gentleman leave then? Xu Chu replied: Even though you are a relative, you are still external [of the palace]. I am an internal officer, talking with the crowd is enough, what private business do you have inside? [Cao Cao] heard of this incident and loved [Xu Chu] the more for it, making him General of Central Firmness (zhong jian jiang jun). With the collapse of [Cao Cao], Xu Chu wept and coughed out blood. The Literary Emperor [Cao Pi] advanced his promotion to Marquis of Wan Sui Ting, changed his ranked to General of Martial Commandant (wu wei jiang jun); Chief Controller of the Central Army (du du zhong jun). Earlier, all of Xu Chu’s tiger troops followed to attack Fa, [Cao Cao] thought they were followers of his. On the same day promoted [Xu Chu] to become a general. Afterwards due to the merits promoted to general with additional Marquis status, with several tens of people. Chief Commandant (du wei), Colonel (xiao wei) over a hundred people. When the Illustrious Emperor (Cao Rui) assumed the throne he further added the title of Marquis of Mou Xiang. An addition of seven hundred households was added to the fiefdom. The son was bestowed a feudal rank of Marquis of Guan Nei. When Xu Chu died, he was given a posthumously title of Marquis of Zhuang. His son Xu Yi inherited [his father’s titles]. Xu Chu’s brother, Xu Ding also had military merits was bestowed General who Raises Might (zhen wei jiang jun), Chief Controller (du du) jiao dao hu bi. In the middle of Tai He (II), the Emperor thought of Xu Chu’s loyalty and obedience thus issued an imperial decree of praises and support. He again bestowed upon [Xu Chu’s] son and grandson feudal rank of Marquis of Guan Nei. Xu Yi was killed by Zhong Hui. In the beginning of Tai Shi, [Xu Yi’s] son, Xu Zong inherited his father’s titles. (II): The reign year for Tai He started in AD 227 and ending in AD 233 Thus it would place the event somewhere between AD 229-231 ^^thanks to Kongming.net for Xu Chu's SGZ above. ----------------- - Pros and Cons - ----------------- - Pros - - Great attack power - Great defense - Great health - Powerful - Make a great baseball player >.> - Cons - - Slow - Slow attack speed ------------- - Unlocking - ------------- Xu Chu is unlockable in DW4 XL when you turn on your game. --------- - Moves - --------- Running Attack: Xu Chu gets a running(wading) start, then does a continuous tumble roll along the ground. It does meager damage, but knocks enemies off guard and can be sustained by rapidly tapping Square. If you are forced to hoof it, Xu Chu moves significantly faster during this attack. Basic square combo: Xu Chu does two horizontal swings, two diagonal swings, a 360 degree swing, and ends with a vertical swing. It does nice damage, and covers all sides pretty well. It's a bit slow though, and doesn't excel in any category. Stick to charge moves and use this sparingly. C1: Xu Chu grabs an enemy and swats them away onto the horizon. This move is actually decent for crowd clearing. When he swings after the initial grab, it is a 360 degree swing and he's invulnerable once he grabs the enemy. This can be used to dispatch surrounding enemies. It does nice damage too. C2: The slow and terrible 1st launcher, never use it...ever! C3: Xu Chu smashes his weapon to the ground several times then one final time with greater force. It is great against duels and one enemy, and does nice damage. It's also pretty quick, but avoid in crowds or you'll get interrupted 90% of the time. C4: Xu Chu does a 270 degree baseball swing, launching anyone hit into space. With an orb you can use this move to inflict many enemies with it's status. It does very nice damage, and comes off relatively quickly. The recovery time isn't all that bad either. Overall, this is Xu Chu's best move. Use it often. C5: The typical 2nd launcher, use sparingly, not worth the effort. C6: Xu Chu hops forward several times(press triangle repeatedly), then causes a shock wave. This may seem terrible at first glance, but with the rigth orb it has it's uses. Every part of this move uses your element. So rushing into a crowd with a lvl 4 ice orb using this can set up for a devestating musou. Use sparingly, but do not ignore it if you have the right orb. Does OK damage, but nothing special. Musou: Xu Chu spins around several times, knocking anyone nearby into the stratosphere. It does excellent damage hit for hit, and since he falls over at the end, you are safe during the recovery time. Overall, use this move often, especially when an officer is frozen. True musou: The regular musou with fire and several big spins at the end. It becomes a juggling musou and thus loses it's usefulness. Avoid it, unless you have no choice. --------------------- - 10th level weapon - --------------------- From DW4 (recommended): Xu Chu Zhong Kang Attack = +59 Stage = Battle of Tong Gate Method = Defeat Pang De and Ma Dai in any order, don't fight any of Han Sui's troops, wait for the Cao Cao meet with Han Sui event, Cao Cao orders to lower Han Sui's morale message, defeat Han Sui's sub-generals and soldiers to lower his morale, Han Sui defect message, Shu troops attack message -> Xu Chu earns Lv10 weapon message. Muni Comment = The enticing Han Sui to defect sequence of messages will begin 7:00 into the battle, and the Cao Cao meet with Han Sui event approximately 1 minute later. You can use this time to defeat other enemy generals on the map to your pleasure as long as you don't touch any of Han Sui's troops. Here's a step by step 1) Defeat Ma dai and Pang De 2) Wait for Han Sui to meet with Cao Cao 3) Defeat all his sub generals (3 or more) to lower his morale, this will make him defect 4) Han Sui defect, weapon message 5) Defeat Ma Chao and end the stage DW4 XL: Xu Chu Zhong Kang Weapon : Stone Crusher Attack : +59 Method : Defeat Dian Wei twice. Dian Wei appears for the 3rd time. Learned Stone Crusher message. Muni Comment : Eliminating enemy Supply Troops is not required for unlocking the weapon, but you still should get rid of them for the good of the battle. --------------------- - 11th level weapon - --------------------- From Muni Shinobu's FAQ: Xu Chu Zhong Kang Added Items : Peacock Urn (HP) Lv14 Speed Scroll (Speed) Lv20 Wing Boots (Jump) Lv19 Seven Star Sash (Luck) Lv16 Method : Defeat Yu Jin. Defeat Li Dian. Defeat Yue Jin. Defeat Man Chong. Defeat Dian Wei twice. Do not allow the Farmland Damage Spread message to appear. Do not allow the Ally Guard Team Destroyed message to appear. Do not allow enemy Supply Troops to successfully deliver their supplies for more than 3 times. Achieve 80 KO Count. For each time a "Farmland Damage Spread", "Ally Guard Team Destroyed", or "Supply Troop Supply Successfully Delivered" message appears, add 10 more KO Counts. Learned Lv11 weapon message. Muni Comment : Here's a step by step sequence. Defeat Yu Jin before defeating his Supply Troop Captain. Defeat Dian Wei's 3 Supply Troop Captains. Defeat Dian Wei. Defeat Li Dian before defeating his Supply Troop Captain. Defeat Dian Wei for the 2nd time, it's acceptable to ignore his 3 Supply Troop Captains this time. Encounter Dian Wei for the 3rd time. Defeat Yue Jin after he appears (approximately 4 minutes into stage at map East), before defeating his Supply Troop Captain. Defeat Man Chong after he appears (approximately 6 minutes into stage at map Southwest), before defeating his Supply Troop Captain. You should receive a Precious Item Report together with the weapon learned message, the Meat Bun Sack. Defeating the enemy generals' Supply Troop Captains (after defeating the respective enemy generals) is not necessary for unlocking the weapon, but is nevertheless recommended. It is acceptable if enemies start pillaging. It is only unacceptable when the message tells you that farmland damage has spread. The "add 10 more KO Counts" thing is only conjecture based on my various tests. There might be a limit to how many messages could appear before the weapon is lost, but I never tested the limits. So just keep the message appearances to a minimum and hope for the best. Or just keep them from appearing altogether. From TLW's FAQ: === Xu Zhu === Name: Earth Shaker Map: Jie Ting Restrictions: No bodyguards 1. Defeat Yu Jin and his supply troop captain. 2. Defeat Li Dian and his supply troop captain. 3. Defeat Dian Wei's three supply troop captains, defeat Dian Wei. 4. Defeat Yue Jin before the disaster spreads, defeat his supply troop captain. 5. Defeat Dian Wei's three supply troop captains, then defeat Dian Wei for a second time. 6. Defeat Man Chong and his supply troop captain before the disaster spreads. 7. Level 11 message. Note: It's okay to let them start plundering. Just make sure you kill the officer and his supply captain before the disaster spreads. Note: It's okay to let the three supply captains who appear with the third Dian Wei flee. Just make sure you kill Man Chong. Weapon Stats: lv 14 peacock urn, lv 20 speed scroll (!!!), lv 19 jump scroll, lv 16 SSS ------------ - Costumes - ------------ Costume 1: Xu Chu's basic costume, a tiny purple vest and big baggy pants. The vest is open and his hair is in a bun. Keep in mind, his hair is in a bun for every costume. Costume 2: A palette swap of number 1. Much lighter purple colors for all parts of clothing. Costume 3: Costume 1 except the vest is replaced by a larger brown furry one. This is my favorite. Costume 4: Costume 2 except with a larger light purple vest. Copstume 5: His costume from DW3. He has a cross strap across his chest. Costume 6: Costume 5 with brighter colors. ---------------- - Orbs and You - ---------------- Some good orbs to equip Xu Chu are: Vorpal - His C4 is killer, with a lvl. 4 vorpal, the damage with the orb will cause some major damamge. Lighting - Same as what i said with vorpal, only with the lightning orb, it will help you when your in a siege. Ice - i like to use this with C4 and C3. The other 2 orbs is just useless IMO. -------------------------- - Recommended Equipments - -------------------------- Saddles Red Hare/Shadow Runner - no comment, you all already know what it does so i'll just leave it to you to figure it out :D Orbs Read the Orbs and You section to know which orbs to use. You might not agree with me. Items Peacock Urn - Raises Health. ALWAYS EQUIP!! Tiger Amulet - Raises attack power. ALWAYS EQUIP!! Turtoise Amulet - Raises defense power. ALWAYS EQUIP!! Wind Scroll - Raises reach power. OPTIONAL. ------------------------- - Xu Chu's Legend Stage - ------------------------- The only restriction in Xu Chu legend stage is not being able to bring your bodyguard along with you, but you get to equip items :D. Before starting, make sure his stats are maxed out. Now that you know what to do, lets get started and get you that Xu Chu's 11th already. Also, i recommend playing two players, since Xu Chu attack speed is very slow it can be a problem when playing on expert with the enemies A.I so high i suggest bringing along a friend. while 2nd is out getting your weapon, you can guard the north entrance so that the enemies supply captains wont escape, or you can select 2 player and choose second player as whomever you want (i recommend Ma Chao, great on a horse, makes the level seem like a piece of cake) you can leave your first player at a place where the enemies cant find you and have 2nd player (you) head out and do all the requirements. First off head towards Yu Jin and defeat him and his supply captains, save if you want, just in case you might have mess up later in the stage. After you defeated Yu Jin, find and defeat Li Dian and his supply captains. After defeating Li Dian, save, find and defeat Dian Wei and his supply captains. Then, save, find and defeat Yue Jin and his supply captain, if you cant find where the enemies are, press start and select unit info to see where is who on the map, makes it easier so you know where to go after doing something. After defeating Yue Jin, go where dian wei was the first time he appeared and head up into that fortress where Ma Su was hold, once your there, Dian Wei will appears for the 2nd time, go ahead and defeat him. after doing that, save, and if Man Chong appeared defeat him and you should get a precious item report along with the weapon message. If he doesnt appeared then wait (he appears about 6:00 minutes into the stage). Once you defeated him, head to the fortress where Dian Wei appeared the second time and head north, there Dian Wei and his supply captains should make their appearances for the 3rd time, defeat him for the 3rd time thus ending the stage. ----------------- - Miscellaneous - ----------------- 1. Start a game on Expert difficulty. 2. Save mid-game. 3. Change the game difficulty to Novice. 4. Do not re-start the saved mid-game. 5. Start a new game. 6. Soft reset in-game (Select+Start). 7. Re-start the saved mid-game. This is a convenient trick for unlocking Lv11 weapons. ---------- - Thanks - ---------- Here are the people who i would like to give thanks to, they are listed below: Thanks to CjayC for making this awesome site and posting my FAQ up of course.
