Introduction
------------
This document is meant to be a definitive guide for the new item creation
feature introduced in Phantasy Star: Generation 2. Though I dislike making
huge charts for these sorts of things, I have received a lot of requests
for it. That said, the information presented here is based on an endless
array of chaotic and garbled notes I took back when I was playing the
game obsessively, so I cannot guarantee its complete accuracy.

When referring to the game characters in this guide, I will use their
names from the original game's translation, which should be familiar to
most players. However, when referring to the new items and such, I'll
use my own rough translations for them and assume that the reader has
enough knowledge of Japanese script to know what I'm talking about. Email
me if you require assistance in identifying an item.

--------
Overview
--------
Like many gimmicks inserted into games these days, there is no way for
the casual player to know how PSg2's item creation system actually works.
Fortunately it is fairly simple.

As you acquire new party members during the game, eventually you'll have
to leave some of them home. Unlike in the original game, they can actually
do something useful while sitting around at your place. When you enter
your home, as in the original game, you'll be asked if you want to stop
dilly-dallying and leave right away, so select gnoh to get to the menu.
You'll see the following options:

Storage
Create
Member Change
Leave

To set up party members to create items, first go to Member Change if
necessary to leave certain characters at home. Then select Create to open
a new window listing the party members and what they are doing. Characters
in the active party will be grayed out, and those at home will be listed
in white. Highlight a character at home and press Circle, then select
either Create (left option) or Train (right option). Training lets a
character earn experience points while at home and prevents them from
contributing to item creation.

Once you've selected which characters to contribute to item creation,
go out and fight battles! After a certain number of fights, your team
will have finished making something. Return home and you'll immediately
get a message about the item they made. The completed item will appear
in the Storage screen. You'll have to manually move it to your party's
inventory from there. (Remember that you can highlight any item and press
Triangle to see its description.) As soon as an item is made, the battle
counter resets and you have the start the process over again.

--------------
Who makes what
--------------
The item you get depends entirely on two factors: The characters at home
using the Create option, and how many battles you fight. As far as is
currently known, there are only six valid combinations of party members
for creating items. Each combination leads to one of six categories of
items (four for equipment, one for expendable items, and another for cake).
Here are the known combinations:

Item1	Item2	Item3	Item4	Meds	Cake
Rudo	Hugh	Amy	Rudo	Amy	Anna
Kain	Kain	Anna	Hugh	Hugh	Shir
-	-	Shir	Kain	-	-

Note: These combinations can and will overlap, and there will be multiple
possibilities for the kind of item you get. If you're going for a specific
item, only have the listed characters for that category do any creating.
If you were to put all 6 characters on item creation duty, they could
potentially create anything from the list, but it would be chosen at
random.

----------------
How many battles
----------------
To find out how many battles you have to fight to get an item, first find
the item in the charts below. (This would have been one chart, but it
wouldn't have fit into GameFaqs spacing requirements.) The number on the
left side of the chart is the number of battles it will take to make the
item. Make sure to scroll up and find out what category the item is so
you have the proper combination of characters working on it.

In general, the number of battles fought grounds downh to the previous
item. For example, if you were trying to make a SaberClaw, which takes
10 battles, and you only fought 9, you'd get a SteelScale instead. It
has been suggested that the ggradeh you receive after each battle may
make the battle count more or less towards your total, but this is hard
to confirm.

Also note that each category has an end point. Fighting more battles than
necessary after qualifying for the last item on the list will not get
you
anything new.

Recommendations
---------------
With only a few exceptions, the items made through item creation cannot
be bought or found anywhere else in the game. However, because you don't
have a complete party roster until almost halfway through the game, not
all of them are worth the trouble by the time you have access to them.
The following is a list of items that I personally recommend.

-Wind Dagger: Rudo + Kain, 23 battles
32 attack power, wind elemental, good bonuses to defense, dexterity, and
luck. A good mid/late game weapon for Shir.

-Flame Sword: Rudo + Kain, 25 battles
84 attack power, fire elemental; casts Foi when used. Good mid-game weapon
for Rolf.

-Silent Claw: Rudo + Kain, 27 battles
24 attack power, good bonuses to dexterity and luck; casts Vol when used.
Good mid-game weapon for Nei. Still useful later for its free insta-kill
tech.

-Napalm Shot: Rudo + Kain, 33 battles
60 attack power, fire elemental. The most powerful gun Kain can use. Highly
recommended.

-Ice Slicer: Rudo + Kain, 37 battles
40 attack power, good bonuses to dexterity and luck. Good late game weapon
for Anna. Highly recommended.

-Ice Staff: Rudo + Kain, 43 battles
38 attack power, water elemental, good bonuses to defense, dexterity,
and luck; casts Wat. Good late game weapon for Amy.

-Plasma Sword: Rudo + Kain, 53 battles
110 attack power, good all-around bonuses; casts Gigaj when used. Good
mid/late game weapon for Rolf.

-Lightning Whip: Rudo + Kain, 57 battles
48 attack power, thunder elemental, good bonuses to defense and dexterity;
casts Zonde when used. Most powerful whip for Anna.

-Wind Staff: Rudo + Kain, 63 battles
36 attack power, wind elemental, great bonuses to defense, dexterity,
and luck; casts Zan. Good late game weapon for Amy.

-Plasma Cannon: Rudo + Kain, 67 battles
80 attack power, good bonus to dexterity. Second most powerful single-hit
gun.

-ChainSawd: Rudo + Kain, 73 battles
138 attack power, good all-around bonuses. Second most powerful sword.

-Laser Shield: Hugh + Kain, 17 battles
44 defense power. Good mid-game protection for Hugh or Kain.

-Thunder Crown: Hugh + Kain, 33 battles
32 defense power, good bonuses; casts Zonde when used. Second most powerful
headgear for Nei and Amy. Highly recommended.

-Gale Bandana: Hugh + Kain, 37 battles
17 defense power, good bonuses; casts Shunera when used. Best headgear
for Shir.

-Zirconium Chest: Hugh + Kain, 57 battles
52 defense power, good bonuses. Best armor for Hugh and good mid-game
armor for Rolf.

-Luminous Emel: Amy, Anna, Shir, 31 battles
40 defense power, good bonuses; casts Fanbi when used. Good mid-game
protection for the ladies.

-Plasma Field: Amy, Anna, Shir, 37 battles
72 defense power, good bonuses; casts Sagaj when used. Second most powerful
cape, can be used by any of the female cast (and is the best armor some
of them can equip). Highly recommended.

-White Boots: Amy, Anna, Shir, 44 battles
10 defense power, good all-around bonuses. Arguably the best footwear
for the female party members.

-Wave Gun: Hugh, Rudo, Kain, 31 battles
48 attack power. One-handed, usable by any of the male cast. Recommended
for Hugh and Kain when facing high-defense enemies.

-Black Boots: Hugh, Rudo, Kain, 44 battles
10 defense power, good all-around bonuses. Arguably the best footwear
for the male party members.

-Trifluid: Amy + Hugh, 33 battles
These TP-restoring items cannot be bought anywhere and are a rare commodity.
Brew up a few for an emergency.

-StarMist: Amy + Hugh, 47 battles
Restores everyone's HP. Cannot be bought, but Shir can sometimes steal
them from stores. However you get them, they are definitely worth it.
The same goes for Sol Dew (cures status ailments) and Moon Dew (revives
one party member).

-Cakes (various): Anna + Shir
This is delicious cake; you must eat it! Cakes have various properties
that are listed below. They cannot be bought anywhere, so get your
women-folk in the kitchen if you want some.
-Shortcake: restores 80HP (5 battles)
-Monblanc Cake: restores all HP (13 battles)
-Fruit Tart: restores 80TP (20 battles)
-Chiffon Cake: restores all TP (27 battles)
-Naula Shortcake: restores all HP&TP (35 battles)

Tips
----
-Don't run away from a fight. It won't count towards making an item.
-The game doesn't care how strong the enemies are. Feel free to squash
bugs around Paseo all day if you like; they'll still count. For this reason,
you may want to do as much creating as possible before the biomonsters
are replaced by tougher robots.
-Save several battles before your goal! You might make a mistake in
counting fights, or it may end up that the game weighs each battle
differently based on your grade. If you save and reset, the number of
battles you won will be retained.
-Category 3 and 4 items are particularly difficult to get, because each
combination of three party members also counts for one or more combinations
of two party members. You might end up getting a Silent Claw when you're
going for a Wave Gun, or a Naula Cake when you're trying for a Plasma
Field. Because of this, it's especially important to save several battles
ahead in these situations.
-Some created items have a built-in elemental property. These can still
be changed at the upgrade station just like any other weapon! You can
make your Napalm Shot be ice elemental or non-elemental, for example.
