In this guide for Killzone, I hope to give players a better insight into
the vehicles used by the Helghan armies and give them some tactics for
fighting them. I have included levels the vehicles are encountered on,
weapons that are useful for fighting them and also my own tactics that I use
that will help you to fight them should you decide to use them.

-------------
1. Jet bike
-------------

Encountered on levels -
Helghast assault
Vekta evacuates

Useful weapons -
ISA Assault Rifle - A fairly rapid and accurate weapon, useful for getting
some hits in against the jet bikes

Helghast Assault Rifle - Again, a rapid but slightly less accurate weapon,
a hit is likely since you fire a wall of bullets in their direction

Light Machine Gun (LMG) - Slightly more accurate and faster then the
previous 2 weapons, a recommended weapon to use, it also has a larger
clip size so you can fire for longer before needing to reload

Chain Gun - Very fast, almost guarantees you a hit by firing over a hundred
bullets in 6 seconds at any target you aim at and is quite powerful

The Helghast jetbike is a very light, but very fast and agile one-man craft. It
is used mainly for identifying and intercepting ground troops. The craft is
armed with a single, fixed machinegun at the front of the craft, allowing it
to strafe enemy troops is may spot as it flies around.

This craft is lot deadlier then you may think. Thankfully it does not appear
very often throughout the game. It flies exceptionally fast, making it very
difficult for it to be shot at and usually flies past on a single run and
doesn’t return when you then may be prepared for it so be on guard.
They have a very unique sound so if you hear its distinct buzz, get
into any cover you can find.
Although it may be possible to shoot one down, I have never
been able to return fire accurately enough to prove this apart from
the level where you are required to shoot one down. If it were possible,
I would seriously recommend getting into some very good cover and using a
very rapid weapon to do this. The ISA assault rifle and the Helghast
Light Assault Rifle are both good guns and although inaccurate with
constant firing, the sheer amount of rounds you can get off into a
single direction before needing to reload, (especially with the Helghast rifle)
make these guns the most suited to downing one of these craft.
There is a level where you have to destroy some to proceed
and there a mounted machine gun that can be effectively utilized to
deliver a constant stream of fire at them and they are soon destroyed,
allowing you to proceed.

-------------
2. Dropship
-------------

Encountered on levels -
Hidden pasts
Onwards and upwards

Useful weapons -
Battle pistol - Explosive with a fair range, however it needs to be
reloaded in between every shot so not recommended

Grenade launcher - A better range and more rapid then the battle pistol
makes this a very useful weapon and causes heavy damage to its target

Helghast rocket launcher - Very powerful and explosive, can fire 1 or 3
rockets so you can cause untold damage to any target. It needs to be
reloaded

ISA rocket launcher - Lighter then the Helghast version, it does need
reloading after every round. The advantage is that rockets can be guided
so they will go after your target making them as useful as the Helghan version.

The Helghast Dropship is an airborne vehicle used by the Helghan armies to
rapidly
drop troops into areas where they are needed the most.
These are armed with 2 machinegun turrets so you may be tracked as you run
about them making it difficult to find a weak spot without being vilnerable
yourself.

This craft is extremely slow but not completely immobile. They are not built
for fire fights however so they do not employ the deadliest weaponry avaailble.
They do however, rely on their extremely heavy armour and the fact they drop
troops to provide the best protection. So watch out for any Helghast troops
that it may be dropping that could easily kill you.
If you do decide to fight a dropship, get yourself the heaviest
weapons that you can find. Both the ISA and Helghast rocket launchers are
excellent for dealing with this craft providing you have a few rockets.
The chain gun rockets are also effective as the squad cannon, delivering
explosive shells to its targets.
From my combat experience, the armour is the same on all sides of
the drop ship so a few well aimed shots at any points will most likely
blow it out the sky, it looks pretty spectacular when you do so you feel
satisfied shooting the equivalent of a flying whale out the sky.

--------------------------------------
3. APCS (Armoured Personnel Carriers)
--------------------------------------

Encountered on levels -
Helghast assault
Escape
Hunting the traitor
Forging a path

The advantage is that rockets can be guided
so they will go after your target making them as useful as the Helghan version

The Helghast APC travels on Anti-Grav engines allowing traversing land
very quickly. The APC is used to deliver squads of Helghan troops to
areas where they are needed and are capable of defending themselves
long after the troops have disembarked.
There are 3 types of APC in the game all adapted to different
battlefield rolls. The first and most common is the heavy machine gun
APCS that has a turret mounted heavy machine gun, capable of delivering
hundreds of rounds at any threats that it may spot, take care with these
APC, however good use of cover can easily make the heavy mgs useless.
The second type is equipped with a quad-barrelled Helghast AA turret,
these turrets can more often then not be aimed at you and your buddies
so take cover when they point in your direction. The final and thankfully,
least common type of APC is armed with a Multiple rocket launcher (MLR),
capable of firing 16 rockets from a roof mounted pack.

Fighting these beasts is a fairly simple business, dangerous though they
are, a few simple steps can be taken to halt them in their tracks.
The first and most important tactic is to get some very good
cover to stop you taking damage from their weapons. Get some distance
and cover if fighting the MLR version of this APC as well, the rockets
are highly explosive and will damage you form the blasts.
The second tactic would be to get a gun such as a chain gun or
a light machine gun (LMG) and wait for the troops to disembark from them,
when they are all safely out, simply step out and gun the fresh troops down,
so the ACP is left on its own.
Finally get an accurate weapon with a scope, i.e., Sniper rifle,
ISA rifle or Shadow Marshall SMG. Step out of cover momentarily and use
the scope and zoom in on the turret and try and get a few rounds off at
the gunner, chances are you will hit them in the head or not at all. If
you hit them in the head you will not be fired back at and you will hear
a scream from the enemy gunner. However if you miss, simply step back into
cover for a while as they return fire and step back out and repeat as necessary
until they are dead.
Once the gunner and troops are dead, the APC is just a shell and can
simply be left or destroyed at your leisure.

The MLR and AA APCS require complete destruction to them or they will remain
a threat to you as a remote gunner controls the guns from within, meaning he
cant be sniped. Use rocket launchers, squad cannons and grenades to destroy
these types. Running extremely close to them so you could hit them and
crouching puts you out of firing positions of them so you can simply throw
grenades to the other side of them and destroy them. The number one rule is
stay out of line of fire. Circling is a good technique to destroy them while
firing. Circling allows you to constantly fire but doesn't allow them to be
able to fire at you due to the fact that they will not be able to get a target
lock on you unless they happen to get a lucky shot.

--------------
4. Heavy Tank
--------------

Encountered on levels -
Escape
Onwards and upwards
Forging a path

Useful weapons -
Battle pistol - Explosive with a fair range, however it needs to be
reloaded in between every shot so not recommended

Grenade launcher - A better range and more rapid then the battle pistol
makes this a very useful weapon and causes heavy damage to its target

Helghast rocket launcher - Very powerful and explosive, can fire 1 or 3
rockets so you can cause untold damage to any target. It needs to be
reloaded

ISA rocket launcher - Lighter then the Helghast version, it does need
reloading after every round. The advantage is that rockets can be guided
so they will go after your target making them as useful as the Helghan version

Laser designator - Although you only get this for a very brief period of time,
if used correctly, it can be an invaluable tool, calling in air strikes in on
tanks that are sure to halt your advance

Sniper rifle - Surprising useful as it allows you to take out the gunner and
reduce the lethality or the battle tank

The Helghast heavy tank is the mother of all vehicles in this
game and is not to be underestimated in the slightest bit. It is heavily armed
and heavily armoured making it a force to be reckoned with. However it moves
extremely slowly due to its extreme weight and this can be used against it.
It is armed with a heavy explosive cannon that will deliver
extremely powerful shells to your position, killing you or causing extreme
damage in the process. It is also armed with a co-axial machine gun that can be
fired in tandem with the cannon to lay down a large barrage of fire,
halting anyone in their tracks.
As is with the APC, it is also armed with a turret mounted heavy
machine gun to further halt you. While playing on Easy mode, I was instantly
killed from a hit from the main cannon so the power of this tank is almost
certainly not a power to be shrugged off.

These monstrosities are more difficult to destroy then the APCS, however,
they are also a lot less common. To destroy them, you need explosive weapons;
the ISA and Helghast Rockets launchers are invaluable to taking them out.
The chain gun rocket launcher and squad cannon are both useful and if needs
be, grenades, grenade launcher and even the battle pistol can be used to
destroy one.
On one level where you encounter these, you will come equipped with
a laser designator so you can call air strikes on the first few you encounter
and simply take them out, however, the air strikes are limited so sooner or
later, you will have to get down to destroying one with guns and wits. Make
sure you have lots of grenades and at least 1 weapon capable of firing
explosive rounds.
Begin by getting a good distance away from it and sniping the
driver/turret operator as discussed with the APC to take a third of its
armament away from it.
Next, work your way up to it, utilizing all the cover you can find
to stay out of harms way. Sprint over open areas to keep ahead of its guns
to get into better cover. When you’re close enough to throw grenades at it,
stay in cover and throw your grenades over the cover and cook them so they
explode as they hit it, if you’re lucky, you can take one out with only
grenades,
however, this may not happen so simply nip out of cover for a few seconds fire
one of your explosive weapons at it. Carry on like this and it will soon
be destroyed.
For those of you without grenades, get 3-4 Helghast rocket shells and
fire at it from afar until it is destroyed, being a good distance away will
allow you to get back into cover before it will return fire at you, so this
is the easier method of the two.

----------------
5. Assault boat
----------------

Encountered on levels -
Escape
Misty waters

Useful weapons - N/A, the craft cannot be destroyed, kill the troops
in any way you see fit.

The assault boat is used for waterborne invasions, quickly
delivering squads of troops to areas that are vulnerable and
dispersing them from a ramp into the thick of the combat.
It is very heavily armoured and armed with twin heavy
machine guns to protect its troops before they disembark into combat.
The boat usually carries a variety of Helghast Light Soldiers and
Helghast Elite Soliders into battle so the variety of weapons you will face
must not be forgotten. Helghast Rifles, LMGs and possibly Shotguns are the
main threat form these particular troops so take care.

These boats cannot be destroyed so there are no tactics for fighting them.
However, there only threat is the troops that they carry on
board. Being prepared with a machine gun and some cover is probably the
best way to deal with these troops, simply gun them down as they come out, as
they will be tightly packed as soon as the ramp lowers. It’s like shooting
fish in a barrel. The best weapons for destroying these troops would be use
the ISA rifle, the chaingun, the Helghast LMG and possibly the grenade launcher
as the explosion in the small spaces will cause havoc among the troops and will
kill several of them per shell. The grenade launcher is probably the most useful
of all the recommended weapons for a quick kill.
I have never yet seen these craft ever actually use the machine guns
mounted on them and I can only assume that they are merely in place to look
somewhat threatening rather then actually causing any damage to you and
your team.
These craft are extremely uncommon and are not honestly
worth worrying about.

6. Fast Assault Boat
---------------------

Encountered on levels -
Escape
Misty waters

Useful weapons -
ISA Assault Rifle - A fairly rapid and accurate weapon, useful for getting
some hits in against the fast assault boats

Helghast Assault Rifle - Again, a rapid but slightly less accurate weapon,
a hit is likely since you fire a wall of bullets in their direction

Light Machine Gun (LMG) - Slightly more accurate and faster then the
previous 2 weapons, a recommended weapon to use, it also has a larger
clip size so you can fire for longer before needing to reload

Chain Gun - Very fast, almost guarantees you a hit by firing over a hundred
bullets in 6 seconds will reduce the assault boat to a flaming wreck in a few
short seconds.

The fast assault boat is the aquatic answer to the Helghan Jetbike.
It is very fast and mainly used for scouting ahead of assault boats
and recon missions.
It is armed with 2 machine guns, one of these is fixed forwards
and is controlled by the pilot. The other is turret mounted and can be
rotated to face threats from all directions; it is located toward
the rear of the boat.

These craft are extremely lightly armoured and extremely vulnerable
to any small arms fire. Simply getting a few good shots from any weapons
is likely to destroy one of these. The ISA and Helghast rifles are both
perfectly suitable for fighting these, as any weapon will penetrate their
weak armour. Players controlling Rico will have a very fun time fighting
these, as his chain gun will destroy them in seconds.
The machine guns that they are armed with are the same as the
Helghast LMG
