Wild Arms: Alter Code F
Walkthrough (for Japanese version) by Avantre
I have changed my email address from previous versions of the FAQ. You can
email me at - avantrefaq @ yahoo DOT com DOT au (after removing the spaces,
and replacing the the DOT with . ) Please ensure that you include "Wild
Arms" or "WACF FAQ" or something similar in the subject line, otherwise
I will not open or read the email (thanks to these spam/virus filled days
we live in).
This walkthrough contains shift-JIS characters to display Japanese words.
If you're seeing gibberish characters, you'll have to change your browser
so that it's compatible with this character system. If you're unsure how
to do this, a quick search of the web should give you the procedures for
your particular internet browser. NJstar is a good third-party system if
you cannot find particulars for your browser.
Please note:
I'll resist the temptation of renaming characters so they match the
old english version of Wild Arms. Instead, I'll use the official art's
English names for the major characters. Therefore it will be Rody,
not Rudy and Zack, not Jack. For characters without official English
names, I'll use the English equivalent if it's obvious. If I don't
see an obvious English equivalent, I'll just give a straight translation.

VERSION INFO
Version 1.00 - 01 March 2004. Okay, that so wasn't a week. Sorry about that.
Walkthrough is now complete in that you can play the game
from start to finish by using this FAQ. Therefore this is
version 1.00. The FAQ is not complete in the sense that some
of the extras/secrets are still being filled in, so expect at
least one more update for that. I have also changed my email
contact address, as I'm planning on changing ISPs in the
near future.
Version 0.60 - 28 Jan 2004. It's amazing how much time it takes to do
these FAQs. Walkthrough for Prologues is now complete.
Walkthrough for Volcannon Trap through to the End of the
game is complete - just have to add from End of Prologues
to Volcannon Trap (about 40% of the game). Have added info
on skills, guardians, magic, cartridges. Extra passwords
added. It'll probably be about a week (maybe two) before
version 1.0 (full walkthrough from start to finish) is done.
Version 0.25 - 19 Jan 2004. Posted early as a lot of people were having
trouble with the passwords and with recognising certain
items/skills - kana/kanji has been listed for the passwords
and a decent amount of the items. I've got the rest of
the walkthrough written out on paper, it just takes a while
to transfer due to the Japanese elements (and I must be a
slow typer).

3.0 MAIN STORYLINE
==--====--====--====--====--====--====--====--==
New Game:
Once you select New Game, you'll be given the option to change
your system settings. When you're ready to actually start the
proper game, press the START button.
You'll get a cutscene that's clearly from further on in the
game, so I won't spoil it by describing who the characters
are at this stage.
Once the cutscene ends, you'll get the title page for the first
prologue.
==--====--====--====--====--====--====--====--==
Prologue 1: ひとり旅の少年 (The lone journey of a young boy)
Town: Surf Village ( サーフ村 )
X: 16050 Y: 21625
The first prologue introduces you to your first character, a blue-haired
kid dressed in a sporting red denim jacket. Banborou ( バンボロー ), a
ranch worker, will approach him and compliment him on his work. As
the kid is a new hire for the ranch here, Banborou has been calling him
boy. Realising this, Banbarou asks the kid for his name. Once you've
either selected the default (Rody - ロディ ) or changed it, Banbarou
will say that it's a good name (no matter how silly it is). He'll give you:
5 Heal Berries ( ヒールベリー )
Banbarou will ask you to talk to the village chief, and then you'll get
control of Rody.
You'll see a double triangle on the upper-middle part of your screen -
this is your compass. Red points north, white points south. As you can
rotate this screen, the compass will be invaluable during this FAQ.
I'll try to give most directions using compass directions (South, N, etc).
If I say exit to the West, I mean exit to the West of the room, not to
the West of where you are in that room - if there are two exits in the
same direction (eg west) then I'll clarify by saying exit to the
North-East. Please remember to always use the compass to get your bearings.
The red bird on the perch to the South-East of your starting point is
a Memory Bird ( メモリーバード ). You can use these to save your progress.
A barrel in the walled alcove against the west side of the stable has
a heal berry. A barrel behind the fence which is above the horse also
has a heal berry. There is another heal berry in the small fence in the
NW. Finally, there is a heal berry in the 3 barrels on the verandah of
the large house. You might notice a couple of chests - behind the small
house and in the stable. Ignore them for now.
When you approach the large house, you'll be accosted by a kid, Tony
( トニー ), who will ask you if you know about Holy Berries. Choosing
the first option says you do know, the second option says you don't.
Select whichever you'd like. If you talk to Tony, you'll find that
he wants to get a holy berry to restore his father's strength.
When you enter the large house to the North-East, you'll see a woman.
Talking to her gives you the option to rest ( 休む ). If you go upstairs
and exit to the verandah, you can search the barrel to get:
Revive Fruit ( リヴァイブフルーツ )
Back on the first level of the house, enter the door to the North to
meet the village head, Tallman ( トールマン ). He thanks you for your hard
work and as a reward he tells you of the treasure filled Berry Cave
( ベリーケイブ ). Green text in a conversation is usually directions to a
town or dungeon.
Once Tallman finishes talking to you, there's a heal berry in the barrel
to the West.
Exit to the North-East.
Open the chest in this room to receive the Set Bomb - Tallman has offered
it to you to help you in the Berry Cave. Items like this are called Goods
in the game. Goods are tools which allow you to interact with the
environment (usally opening up new paths for you to take). Set Bombs allow
you to interact by blowing things up.
If you have more than one Goods, you can switch between them by pressing
the START button, and then selecting the relevant character/goods and
pressing Circle.
Goods can be used in towns and dungeons - they can't be used on the field
map. To use a good, press the square button. With Set Bomb you can set up
to 8 bombs at once - they have 3 second fuses. You can't be injured by them.
Exit to the West.
There's a bit of a ruckus. Tony, the kid who asked you about Holy Berries,
has snuck off to the monster-filled Berry Cave.
When you're ready to chase after him, exit the village.
==--====--====--====--==
FIELD MAP
You're now on the Field screen (the world map). In order to find new
towns and dungeons you have to use the Square button to search for them.
The Berry Cave is directly West of the village - it's not far at all.
When you reach the mountains you should see a little alcove - search there
to reveal the Berry Cave. Go up to it and press Circle to enter.
==--====--====--====--==
DUNGEON: Berry Cave ( ベリーケイブ )
X: 14850 Y: 21700
Cambell ( キャンベル ) will be guarding the entrance. You'll be given two
options - selecting the second will get you nowhere, so choose the
first to tell him you're goign to find Tony. He'll give you:
Nectar x 3 ( ネクタール )
Migrant Badge ( マイグラントバッジ )
Migrant Badges allow you to avoid encounters (if you wish). You'll now
have an ENC gauge in the top left of the screen. When a monster is about
to attack you, a white ! will appear above your head, and you'll see one
or more dots of the gauge go grey. If you press the X button, you'll avoid
the fight and you'll lose the grey dots from your ENC gauge. If you keep
doing this your gauge will empty and then you'll have no choice but to
fight.
You can get more migrant badges - essentially the stronger the
monster, the more ENC dots it will take to avoid fighting it. If you have
multiple migrant badges then it costs less dots. If your migrant badge
level is higher then the monsters, then your exclamation mark (!) will
be green instead of white. This means you can press X to let the monster
go without any penalty to your ENC gauge.
Finally if you get a red ! then that means you've been surprised and you'll
get no choice in fighting. There are skills which can negate the surprise
mode.
When you're ready, exit to the North.
==--==
You can use your Bomb to destroy the 4 large crates - you'll get a heal
berry if you do.
Go down the path and exit to the North.
==--==
Bomb the crates blocking the path. Pick up the recovery orbs if you want.
Recovery Orbs restore 10% of your VIT per orb. When you get damaged in a
fight, you lose HP. At the end of the fight the game uses the character's
VIT to recover their HP. If a character has 200 HP and they lose 50 HP in
a fight then it would take 25% of their VIT to recover.
Exit to the East.
==--==
There's a small path to the South of the entrance - you can spot it by
checking for the large crates. Follow it and drop down to the next ledge
(when your character is at the end of a ledge and starts flailing their
arms, you can use Circle to drop down). Bomb the crates, and drop down to
the next ledge. Open the chest to receive a heal berry. Drop down the 2
ledges to the East.
You'll spot a gate that is blocked by a sign (which tells you to go no
further). Engage in some property destruction and Bomb the sign. Once
the sign is gone and the path is open, exit to the South.
==--==
Take the ENC orbs if you want. ENC orbs restore the dots in your ENC gauge -
one for each orb.
Exit to the North-East.
==--==
Bomb the 2 crates to get a
Small Flower ( ちいさな花 )
Follow the ledge and use the ladder to climb down. Open the chest down there
to get
1 Gimel Coin x 10 ( 1ギミルコイン )
See the item description later in the FAQ about the Gimel Coins - they can
be useful.
Climb back up the ladder and head down the path.
Exit to the East.
==--==
Follow the path. Bomb the 2 crates and open the chest to get
Gyara Beetle ( ギャラコロガシ )
Exit to the North-West.
==--==
Take the path up and exit to the North-West
==--==
Open the chest to get a heal berry.
Exist to the South.
==--==
Take the path down and Bomb the 3 crates. Your path is blocked by the
ladder. It's pretty rickety, so face torwards it and hold down the
Circle button. You'll dash into it, knocking it over and making a bridge.
Exit to the South.
==--==
Bomb the crates to get a heal berry. Climb down the ladder. If you swing
the camera around, you'll see a hidden chest to the N of the ladder. Open
it to get some money:
200 Gyara ( ギャラ )
Exit to the West.
==--==
Head into the next cave to find Tony. He's not going anywhere without a
Holy Berry, but he can't go any further due to the huge boulder blocking
the path.
This thing is too massive to take out with single bombs. Stand next to it
and keep rapdily pressing the square button so that you drop 8 or so bombs.
That should be enough to get rid of the boulder. If not, try again and
drop them faster this time so they all blow at once.
Once the path is clear, exit to the North.
==--==
Tony thanks you for getting the berries, and wants to hurry back to his
father. The other villagers, who had formed a posse are a bit annoyed with
Tony but they're pleased with your success. Before you can start
celebrating, however, there are consequences to taking the holy berries.
==--====--==
Boss: Rotting Beast ( ロッティングビースト )
XP: 42
Gyara: 200
Items: None
Strategy:
Shoot him in the first round to build up your FP. You'll get a message
telling you to use your special ability (lock on - ロックオン). When you have
the 25 FP needed, do that - from the attack menu (from the first menu
press Circle while the central option is selected), press left and then
press Circle. Select the lock on skill. You'll then get the option to do
a normal attack or a special attack. Press right and then press Circle.
Rody has special bullet cartridges he can use for special attacks.
These bullets regenerate when you rest or level up. Pick the
only cartridge you have right now, Boosted Shell ( ブーステッドシェル ).
Using the lock on ability in conjunction with your special attack should
do some decent damage. Keep attacking the beast to build up your FP so
you can do another lock on attack. Remember to use heal berries to keep
your health up. If you run out of bullets, guard for a round so that Rody
reloads. This battle wont take long if you remember to do all this.
==--====--==
The villagers are angry as they realise you've been using an ARM -
forbidden technology as far as they're concerned, due to the damage caused
by wars using ARMS a thousand years ago.
You're give an option - choose the 1st to agree to leave the village - the
second option doesn't get you anywhere.
You'll be given a chance to save the game before the next prologue starts.
================================================================
Prologue 2: トレジャーハンター (Treasure Hunter)
DUNGEON: Memories' Ruins ( 記憶の遺跡 )
X: 19600 Y: 21200
You're introduced to your next character, a man in a brown duster coat
who's initially identified as the 'Treasure Hunter'. He has a companion,
Hanpen, a blue talking mouse. They've come to this dungeon, not
surprisingly, to loot it.
Once you have control of your character, approach the blue screen to the
North and use it with the Circle button.
As if talking wasn't impressive enough, it seems the mouse knows how to use
a computer. The computer asks you to enter a username, so the treasure
hunter decides to enter his own. You can take the default (Zack - ザック )
or change it to whatever you like.
It turns out that Zack's name isn't a valid password - surprising, that.
The dungeon's defences activate. While Zack is dodging boulders, the game
will give you a bit of a spiel about Zack, how he is known for his Quick
Draw abilities and for his Wind Mouse companion.
Eventually you'll regain control.
Before you start exploring, here's a word or two about Zack. Zack's FP
skill is Accelerator ( アクセラレイター ), which costs 25 FP. This skill allows
you to perform an action (attack, quick draw attack, use an item) before
everything else in a round. Zack's Original skills are called Quick Draws
( 早撃ち ) - these are special sword skills which cost MP to use.
Quick Draw skills can be levelled up - each skill starts at level 1, and
can go to a maximum of level 5. To level up a skill, you have to use it a
set number of times. The number of times needed to level up a skill depends
on the individual Quick Draw skill, and the level the skill is currently at.
When a skill levels up, it does not increase in power. Instead, the MP cost
of the skill reduces. This means that the more you level up your skills,
the more times you can use them before you run out of MP.
As a last note, using Accelerator with Quick Draw skills either increases
their power or turns them into a group attack (depending on the skill). For
example, if you use Accelerator, and then select Zack's starting Quick Draw
skill, Speed Fang ( スピードファング ), you'll do about one-third more damage then
you would with Speed Fang alone.
==--==
Starting floor:
Be careful of floor tiles where there are holes - these are spike traps
which activate about a half-second after you first step on them. If you're
quick, you can avoid getting hurt by them.
Exit to the North.
==--==
The game tells you about the function of R2+Circle. When you hold the R2
button down and also press the Circle button, you will see any useable
objects (such as chests or bookcases) highlighted with a yellow circle. If
you keep the R2 button down and tap the Circle button, you'll cycle through
a room's useable objects with each tap.
You can open the chest to get:
Nothing. Nada.
There's a sign behind the chest taunting you (complete with a french
'non non non') that you're too late to get the treasure.
Step on the blue switch to the West to open a door to the East. Exit to the
East.
==--==
There's no way you can reach that switch by yourself. Luckily, you already
have your first Goods - Hanpen. Hanpen can be used to activate switches and
open chests that you can't reach. It can leap gaps up to the width of a
large crate - so it couldn't make this jump if there wasn't a block in the
middle to break up the gap. Hanpen can also change direction in the middle
of its move - just use the left analogue stick to change the direction it
travels in.
Use Hanpen to leapfrog across the block in the middle of the gap and onto
the switch to open the door to the South-East. Climb the stairs and drop
off the ledge to the South-East (make sure you're near the wall so that
you drop onto solid ground).
Exit to the South-East.
==--==
Look closely at the archway - the top is shaped a bit like a guillotine
blade. Actually, it's shaped a lot like a guillotine blade. Most traps in
the game (such as the spiked floor) take 10% of your characters health.
These guillotine blades take something like 50-60%. Use your Circle button
to Dash (don't walk) through the archway to avoid getting hurt.
Once you're past the archway, there's a trapped chest to the West - you can
open it to get:
Heal Berry
The trap will take 10% of your maximum health (if your current health was
40, your maximum health was 70, it would take 7 health off, reducing you to
33HP) if you open it. You have another option though - use Hanpen to open
the chest while you stand at a safe distance. Hanpen can't be hurt by this,
and neither will you.
Exit to the South.
==--==
Pick up a crate by facing one and tapping the Circle button. You'll get a
message telling you that you can throw crates you're holding by pressing
the Circle button again.
You need to hit the blue/grey pyramid to the East with a crate, so practice
your throwing by tossing crates at this handy target. If you keep missing
and run out of crates, leave the room and re-enter to respawn the crates.
When you hit the pyramid switch, the door to the West will open.
Exit to the West.
==--==
Drop off the ledge to the South West (the part of the U shaped ledge that
faces North - the only portion without a low wall).
Use Hanpen to open the trap surrounded chest to pick up:
Gyara Beetle x 2
Exit to the West
==--==
Pick up a crate and throw it at the pyramid switch to open the door to the
North-West. Some crates contain items. You can throw the North and South
crates against a wall to pick up a Revive Fruit and Heal Berry.
Drop off the ledge to the North-West (make sure you're dropping onto solid
ground). Exit to the North-West.
==--==
The chest to the East has:
1 Gimel Coin
Dash through the trapped archway. Exit to the North.
==--==
Stand on the North switch (the one surrounded by traps). Use Hanpen to
activate the other switch while you're still standing on the North one, so
that both are (for a brief moment) activated at the same time. Remember
that you can change Hanpen's direction in mid-run - you'll have to do that
here to get it to hit the switch.
Once the path is open, exit to the East.
==--==
Pick up a crate and throw it at the pyramid switch to open the path.
Exit to the South.
==--==
Pick up some crates and activate the 2 Western most pyramid switches. Cross
the bridge (to the North, against the wall) and do the same on the two East
switches.
Exit to the East.
==--==
Use Hanpen to open the trapped chest to get:
200 Gyara
Exit to the West.
==--==
Exit to the West.
==--==
The crate has:
Heal Berry
Exit to the East.
==--==
Back to the room with the four pyramid switches. Drop off the ledge so
you're on the lower/central portion of the room. Touch the purple gem in
the centre of the room that was created by activating the surround switches.
==--====--==
Boss: Atorachnaka ( アトラクナクア )
XP: 64
Gyara: 200
Items: none
Strategy:
Attack it in the first round. It will counter-attack with Capture Web. To
avoid this counter-attack, build your FP to 25 and then use your FP
ability - Accelerator (preferably use it in conjunction with your Quick
Draw skill, Speed Fang, if you have the MP). If you've got the FP/MP for a
couple of Accelerator+Quick Draw attacks, then that's all it should take for
this spider to fall.
==--====--==
Touch the gem again to teleport.
==--==
Walk over to the console to the North West (to the West of the green light)
and use it with the Circle button.
Cutscene:
Zack applies the delicate computing skills of his boot to (accidentally)
activate a recorded hologram. Hanpen identifies the man in the hologram as
an Elw - a race that disappeared from Fargaia a millennium ago.
Using some sort of telepathic communication system, the Elw gives a recorded
message about Lilitia, "the ultimate strength", a weapon of last defence.
He also mentions a password you can use in this dungeon, should you come
back - search for [ pwdx1 ] to see these extra passwords. Zack's intrigued
by the Lilitia.
Once you're back in control, touch the gen to the South to exit. You'll be
able to save before starting the third prologue.
================================================================
Prologue 3: 修道院の少女 (The Abbey girl)
This prologue starts with a mysterious voice calling a young girl "the
Guardian's Priestess" and insisting she tell it her name.
The default name is Cecilia ( セシリア ).
While Cecilia keeps asking who the voice is, the voice essentially treats
her name and the title it's given her as one and the same, and repeatedly
calls her Priestess, and keeps calling her name. Segue to Holly, a student
of Curan Abbey, who is also calling Cecilia's name in an attempt to wake
her.
TOWN: Curan Abbey ( クラン修道院 )
X:17600 Y:16000
Welcome to Curan Abbey, Cecilia's home for the past few years as she learned
the magic arts. Think of it as a female-only magical boarding school.
Cecilia's just turned 17, and, by the way, she's the daughter of the King
of Adelhyde which of course makes her a princess.
Once you have control of Cecilia, exit to the South.
==--==
Exit to the East.
==--==
The girl here is called Blair. Talk to her if you want.
Exit to the North-West.
==--==
You're in the Abbey's courtyard. You cannot open the door to the West yet.
You can take the door to the East to talk to Logan, the cook. Choosing the
first option with him will heal you as if you'd gone to an inn.
Otherwise, exit the courtyard by the North door.
==--==
The nun, Lana, explains a little about how the magic system works in this
game, and the way it is broken down into 4 schools/elements. To learn more,
check out Cecilia's description in the appendices, which includes an
overview of her magic.
Along this corridor you can:
- Take the first door to the North-East, you'll meet Belila, the Scoop!
Scoop! girl (that's how she always starts her conversations). You can
come back later in the game and talk to her to get the location of an
optional dungeon.
- Take the most North-Eastern door to find a Memory Bird.
- Take the most South-Eastern door to enter the dining hall.
- Take the nearer North-West door to meet Suzanna. Talking to her (and
selecting the first option) allows you to play any music you've previously
heard in the game.
- Take the most Western North-West door to find an empty room (you can
read the book in the bookshelf, if you want).
- Take the South-West door to find Anjie's room (a teacher) - it is empty at
this stage.
Once you're ready, exit back to the courtyard.
==--==
Exit to the South-West.
==--==
Exit to the North-West (through the door).
==--==
Talk to the nun, Sister Mary ( シスター・マリー ). She'll talk about how it's
time for you to leave the Abbey. Cecilia will tell her about the strange
dream she had, but Sister Mary treats it as a case of nerves (due to
Cecilia's imminent departure).
Exit to the South.
==--==
Exit to the North-East.
==--==
Back in the courtyard. Exit to the North.
==--==
Exit to the South-West.
==--==
You'll know you're in the right room if there's a glowing orb of light
floating on the desk.
Talk to Anjie. She's been doing some research on leylines - there's a theory
that Guardian's draw their strength from them. Anjie wants you to use the
Tear's Fragment ( 涙のかけら ) on the globe. The Tear has a link between the
women of the royal family and the Guardians.
Face the light globe - make sure you're close to it. Press the Triangle
button to go into the menu. Press Circle on the first option ("Items" -
アイテム ). There are 3 pages in the Item List -
1 - your normal inventory (for common use items such as healing berries)
2 - Event Items (key items used for quests or to progress the game)
3 - Party Items (usually items which improve your abilities or interface
with the game, such as Migrant Badges)
Note the 3 diagonal bars above the item page. As you move through the 3
pages, the lit bar will change - match the lit bar to the 3 numbers above
to ascertain which item page you're on. You can use the L1 or R1 buttons to
cycle through the 3 pages.
Cycle to the Event Items page. There'll be one item there, with a blue
rectangular icon next to it. This is the Tear ( 涙のかけら ). It will be
automatically highlighted as it's the only item here - press Circle to use
it.
The voice returns and tells you to face Nergal. Anjie will wake you from
your trance, and then give you a Party Item, the Aiming Device
( エイミングデバイス ).
The Aiming Device performs the same function as using R2+Circle - it
highlights useable objects with a yellow dot. You need to be within about
a third of the screen's distance to a useable object in order to see the
yellow dot. You can turn the Aiming Device on/off by going to the Party
Items menu and using the Aiming Device item.
Exit to the North.
==--==
Exit to the courtyard.
==--==
Use your Tear on the large sitting statue (the central North statue). That
will unlock the door to the West.
Exit to the West.
==--==
Use the Tear on the North door to teleport to the library dungeon.

DUNGEON: Sealed Library ( 封印図書館 )
X: ?????? Y: ??????
Now that you're in a combat area, it's time for a word about Cecilia.
Cecilia is a magician, she is not a fighter. You will do minimal damage
to your opponents if you use her to physically attack her enemies. The only
good reason to have Cecilia physically attack an enemy is that if she hits,
she will automatically regenerate 1 MP each hit. MP is hard to regenerate
in this game - the only item that restores MP is Ambrosia, which is
ultra rare. The two best ways early in the game to regenerate MP are to
either rest at an inn, or to gain a level (HP/MP/VIT all go to max when
you level up). Therefore, it can be helpful to be able to regenerate
MP by physically attacking opponents.
At this stage of the game, Cecilia has no Force ability. This will change
soon enough.
Cecilia's strength (at this stage of the game) lies in her magic. While
Rody had Special Cartridges and Zack had Quick Draw skills, Cecilia's
Original skill is her magic. She starts with two abilities - Fire ( ファイア )
and Heal ( ヒール ) - they're in that order on the magic menu. Rather than
attack the creatures in this dungeon with your staff, use Fire to take them
out. You should be able to replenish your MP through levelling up quicker
than you can run out of MP at this stage.
Back to the dungeon -
You can use the Tear on the door straight ahead of you to return to the
Abbey.
Climb down the stairs and open the chest to receive:
Goods: Tinder Staff ( ティンダースタッフ )
The Tinder Staff will shoot a jet of flame when you use it. You can keep the
Square button down, rather then tapping it, to create a continual stream of
fire. While you're doing this, you can't move around but you can turn in
place, creating a 360 degree arc of flame.
Climb back up the stairs and use the Staff to light the unlit brazier to
the South. This will open the door to the North.
Exit to the North.
==--==
Exit to the East.
==--==
Open the chest to pick up:
Heal Berry x 2
Exit to the West.
==--==
Exit to the West.
==--==
Exit to the North.
==--==
Climb the stairs to the West. Hold down the Square button and rotate the
Left analogue stick to "burn and turn" (to shoot out flame while you're
spinning around in place). Light all 3 braziers to open a path.
Exit to the North.
==--==
Exit to the East.
==--==
Climb the ladder to the North (you may have to rotate the camera to see
the ladder).
If you exit to the North, you'll find a stone that gives you a hint on how
to light the five braziers in this room. You need to light the West, East
and North most braziers, while leaving the North-West and North-East ones
unlit. See the diagrams below if you're unsure:
Before:
North
O
O O
O O
After:
X

X X
O = unlit, X = lit
Once the 3 braziers are lit, the path will open. Exit to the East.
==--==
Exit to the South.
==--==
Climb the stairs and light all 5 braziers. They douse themselves pretty
quickly, so you'll definately have to do the burn and turn trick of keeping
the Square button down and revolving your character with the Left analogue
stick.
Once the path is open, exit to the South.
==--==
Exit to the West.
==--==
Use your Tear on the statue in front of you. Then, once that unblocks the
path, use your Tear on the other statue to the West. Climb the stairs and
exit to the North.
==--==
Climb the ladder, exit to the West.
==--==
Open the chest to get:
300 Gyara
Exit to the East.
==--==
Climb down the ladder. Stand in front of the wheel handle and hold down the
Circle button. Rotate the Left analogue stick clockwise until the ladder
moves all the way around to the East.
Climb the ladder, exit to the East.
==--==
There's a chest here:
1 Gimel Coin
Exit to the West.
==--==
Climb down the ladder. Use the wheel handle again (this time rotate the Left
analogue stick anti-clockwise) until the ladder is in the middle, pointing
North.
Climb the ladder. Climb the second ladder beyond it.
[ pwd01 ]
Use the blue stone - it will ask you for a password. The hints for this lie
in the books around you.
The password is in katakana: ガーディアンブレード
A note about passwords if you cannot read Japanese:
Japanese uses 3 lettering systems in its language - 4 if you count their
prevalent use of English. There are 3 letter systems you have to worry about
in this password system. At the bottom of the password screen, you'll see a
row of options. The first 3 are:
がな - hiragana
カナ - katakana
英語 - English
Selecting each of these options will give you a different character set to
use in entering the password.
I'll state with each password what writing system is used for the password.
Once you pick the correct writing system for that password, it'll be up to
you to then match the symbols. Make sure you don't forget the dashes in a
password, and note that some characters have two dots above them - this
makes it a different character to the same looking character without the
dots. Also note that for the Sealed Library password only, there is a small
character (this doesn't happen in the other passwords). Have a look at the
4th character - note how it's smaller then the rest - this makes it
different to a big version of the character. The small versions of the
character are over to the top right of each password screen.
Back to the game -
Once you correctly enter the password, the door to the North will open.
Climb down the ladder and use the nearby wheel handle to move the ladder to
the East or West (doesn't matter which you choose).
Climb the ladder, exit to the North.
==--==
Use the book on the table - this is Nergal's Book. Nergal can sense your
connection to a Guardian that he calls the Water's Whisper ( 水のささやき ). He
seems to take exception to this, and attacks.
==--====--==
Boss: Nergal
XP: 36
Gyara: 400
Items: Crest Graph, Water Gem x 4 (due to the Summon)
Strategy:
Build up your FP by attacking/healing. In the third round (or perhaps when
you reach 50 FP) Nergal will summon 3 mini Nergal. The Guardian who's been
talking to you since the start of this prologue will respond by giving you a
medium. Mediums are used as conduits to Summon Guardians - the mediums look
like rectangular stone blocks in cutscenes.
You now have a Force Skill.
Once you have 50 FP, use your Force Skill to Summon the Water Guardian. One
summon should win this.
Note that whenever you kill a monster with a Summon, you'll get an attack
gem of the same element as your Guardian. This is why you get 4 Water Gems -
because you Summoned your Water Guardian to kill Nergal and his 3
mini-clones.
==--====--==
The Guardian you just summoned, Shiturudark, will formally introduce
itself. He tells you to seek out Lilitia, giving you the same goal as Zack.
Exit to the South.
==--==
Cutscene:
Sister Mary greets you as you exit the Sealed Library. She reassures Cecilia
that she has the strength of heart needed to continue. Sister Mary also
suggests relying on the strength of friends to get through.
Cecilia, however, is a princess and doesn't really have any true friends.
She wonders how she'll find them.
Cut to Cecilia preparing to leave Curan Abbey. The other students gather to
say goodbye to her, and that's the end of the prologues.
You'll be able to save here.
================================================================
MAIN STORY - After the Prologues
================================================================
You'll start the main story with Rody, on the second floor of the headman's
house in Surf Village. When you make your way down the stairs you'll
interrupt a conversation (about you) and will be given a destination to
go now that you're homeless - the capital of this land, Adelhyde. Tony,
the kid, thanks you for helping him, and then you'll go to the Field Map.
==--====--====--====--==
FIELD MAP
Just a note here - you may be getting frustrated by the lack of a World
Map to help with navigating. You do get one, just not yet. You'll have
to be patient on that.
Head South through the forest. Once you're past the forest, immediately
head South. After a few moments you should see a grove of 8 individual
trees. Search there to reveal Adelhyde.
==--====--====--====--==
TOWN: Adelhyde Castle ( アーデルハイド )
X: 16000 Y:17500
Cutscene:
The two men carrying the third will talk about finding Ema before they race
off to the hospital.
Adelhyde consists of three main sections - the town (the first part you see
whenever you enter Adelhyde), the Castle (the North-West exit) and the
festival building (the North-East exit). You cannot enter the festival
area at this point in time.
The first building to the West is the Inn. North of that is a private
residence. North of that is the hospital. The first building to the East
is the shop. North of that (in a little booth) is the Magic Guild, where
you can buy spells for Cecilia. North of that is the ARM shop, where you
can upgrade ARMs (such as Rody's). North of that is the mayor's house, and
North of that is a house you cannot enter at this time.
For now, head to the ARM shop - the second house North-East of the entrance.
==--==
Once inside the ARM shop, you can talk to the man here to upgrade Rody's
ARM and special cartridges (see the Extras section for a description of
the ARM shop).
In the ARM shop, there is a set of stairs (leading down) in the North of
the shop. Climb down them. Once you're in the basement, talk to the green
haired woman, Ema.
Cutscene:
You'll get the location for Lilitia's Tomb. Ema's assistants are refusing
to help her explore the monster infested dungeon (as you'll remember, you
saw them carrying one of their party to the hospital when you first entered
the town). Being the nearest ARM wielding warm body, Ema offers the job of
exploring the dungeon to you for 5000 gyara. Select the first option to
accept the deal.
Ema introduces herself as the local Arm Meister. Arm Meisters are ARM
experts who (with the exception of Ema) can upgrade your ARMs strength and
the amount of bullets you have for a particular special cartridge. She
then finishes by telling you that she's heading off to Lilitia's Tomb
(giving you directions in the process).
Looks like you've got a job. But you'll never complete it on your own - you
need allies. Exit Ema's building.
==--==
Enter the Inn (the first building to the North-West of the town entrance)
and talk to Cecilia. As her Guardian told her to seek out Lilitia, she's
more than willing to join. She'll tell you her abilities as a Sorcerer, and
talk about Crest Graphs. In essence, in most towns there is a Magic Guild -
you can buy new magic spells at this shop for Cecilia. In order to buy a new
spell, you must have a free Crest Graph for each spell (as well as enough
Gyara as each spell also costs a different amount of money to buy).
After her introduction, Cecilia will join your party.
Exit the Inn.
==--==
You'll have a Crest Graph from your fight against the Boss creature in
Cecilia's prologue, so you can buy her a spell at the Magic Guild if you
want. As mentioned before, it's the booth that's between the first two
houses to the North-East of the entrance - it's easy to spot due its blue
crystal orb. Check Cecilia's information in the appendix for a description
of the spells she can get.
Out of all the spells, I found Devastate, Shield, Protect, Escape, Restore
and Resurrection to be the most useful early on. Re-enforce, Command
Replay, Permanence and Revive are very useful later on when you're up
against the tougher monsters in the game.
When you're ready, exit to the North-West.
==--==
You're now in the castlegrounds. To enter the castle, exit to the North.
==--==
Exit up the stairs to the North-West.
==--==
You'll see a guarded staircase in the centre of the room. Ignore it for
now, exit to the West.
==--==
Talk to Zack (he's in front of the orange door. These orange doors, by
the way, are Duplicator doors. They can be opened with Duplicators and
usually hold rare items). Again, mention of Lilitia is all that's needed
to get him interested. He'll introduce himself and Hanpen.
Zack will join your party.
When you're ready, exit Adelhyde.
==--====--====--====--==
FIELD MAP
Head directly North into an alcove in the mountains. Search near the
mountains to find the entrance to Lilitia's Tomb.
==--====--====--====--==
DUNGEON: Lilitia's Tomb ( リリティアの棺 )
X: 16000 Y: 19500
Take the exit that is down the stairs to the East.
==--==
Talk to Ema (you'll have to do it as Rody - change to him with the L2 or
START buttons if he's not the lead character). Select the first option to
gain access to the dungeon.
Exit to the South.
==--==
Take the central North exit.
==--==
Head down the stairs. Open the red chest to get:
Crest Graph
The other chest is a (rusty) brown. You'll see a few of these throughout
the game - they all contain items that Rody can use. To open them, you need
to set a Bomb near it and wait for it to explode. When it does, it'll break
the lock, and you'll be able to open it like any other chest. Bomb/open the
chest to get:
Cartridge: Snipe Barrett ( スナイプバレット )
The Snipe Barrett cartridge is highly accurate. Besides that there's nothing
remarkable about it. Use it against flying monsters and other types of
agile creatures.
Exit to the North.
==--==
You need to activate the two egg switches at the same time. To do this, lay
a line of 6 or so Bombs between the two switches. If you lay them before the
first one goes off, the bombs will go off in a chain reaction, activating
the switches and opening the path.
Exit to the North.
==--==

The light green blocks in this room are unstable. You need to tiptoe
(Shinobi walk) across them. Hold the X button down and use the directional
buttons to tiptoe. Make your way around to the jutting path to the West
and use Hanpen to activate the switch in the middle of the room.
Exit to the East.

blocks (remember that you can keep the flame going by holding down the
button, and that you can turn in place when you're doing that).
Exit to the East.
==--==
Climb the stairs. Exit to the East.
==--==
If you stand next to one of those big brown blocks and press the Circle
button, you'll grab onto the block. While keeping the Circle button down,
you'll be able to use the directional pad/left analogue stick to pull the
block towards you or push it away.
Use the two blocks to make bridges. You can reach the chests to get:
Alter Parts ( アルターパーツ )
Heal Berry x 3
Alter Parts are used to increase the amount of bullets you have in a special
cartridge - the Snipe Barrett cartridge for example. To upgrade your
special bullets, select the second option when speaking to an ARM shop
dealer.
Activate the white switch between the pillars.
Exit to the West.
==--==
Exit to the West.
==--==
Exit to the West.
==--==
Exit to the West.
==--==
You should be back in the area with the huge door. Now that you've activated
the two switches, you can use the lever to the West of the huge door to open
it.
Exit to the North.
==--==
Turn the wheel handle to the Left 2 times so that the spokes are in an X
pattern, all pointing towards the middle of the floor. Then step on the
plate of 4 tiles in the middle of the room to open the door.
Exit to the North.
==--====--==
The creature is eating energy to make itself stronger - you'll need to take
it out.
BOSS: Magni Tortoise ( マグニートータス )
XP: 100
Gyara: 300
Items: Potion Berry
Strategy:
He's weak against water. Don't use thunder attacks. If you see him cover
his head with his shell then guard - in the next round he'll do a group
lightning attack. Otherwise, he doesn't do much damage. He has around
500 HP. You can use Rody's new cartridge to whittle him down if you like.
==--====--==
Exit to the North.
==--==
So this is Lilitia.These robots are called Golems in the game - they were
created in the wars a thousand years ago. Zack's a bit annoyed because the
Golem's "ultimate strength" isn't something he can actually wield (like a
sword, for example).

Climb the stairs. Exit to the South.
==--==
Exit to Ema's room to the East.
==--==
Talk to Ema to tell her what you've found. She's planning on displaying the
Golem in the upcoming Exhibition at Adelhyde, so she's more than happy.
After her team retrieves Lilitia, you'll return to Adelhyde.
When you're ready to progress the story, go to the Inn and talk to the woman
behind the counter. To rest, select the first option twice.
Cecilia leaves the party as she's from this town and so she has a place to
sleep, so to speak. The others don't know she's a princess at this stage.
You'll wake on the morning of the Exhibition. When you're ready, take the
North-East exit in Adelhyde.
==--==
You're now in the exhibition grounds. Enter the building to the North.
==--==
Talk to Ema to get your 5000 gyara reward. If you take the East exit, then
exit North you'll see the King (with two guards). Talk to him. Inspect the
stone display before the Golem in this room and the other main rooms -
you'll get a brief cutscene showing you a full view of the Golems. Also
check the creature in the front room - it's a Dragon, not a Golem.
Talk to everyone, then leave the exhibition and go back to Adelhyde Town.
You'll see a kid with a red balloon standing near the ARM shop.
It's a really good time to save the game. Once you're ready, talk to the
balloon kid.
==--==
After the cutscene, you won't be able to save for a little while. Head
towards the North-West exit - at the top of the stairs you'll get into a
fight where Cecilia's already taking on a horde of enemies. Once you win
this fight, you'll see a 5 minute counter start.
The counter is how long you have to escape Adelhyde town by retreating to
the castle. If the time runs out, it's game over. Opening the menu pauses
the counter. Before you escape you can help rescue various citizens. To
rescue the people, just find them and talk to them:
Howard (man): North-East of town, near the exit to the exhibition hall.
Katory (woman): South-East of town, behind the ARM shop.
Spinel (kid): South of town, near Magic Guild.
Lisa (woman): West of town, behind the buildings, South of the hospital.
Dominic (kid): South of town, between the wall and the first building to
the East of the entrance.
Anderson (man): North of town. Won't join until you save Spinel.
When you're done, take the North-West exit and select the first option to
escape.
==--====--==
The handsome fellow is called Berserk ( ベルセルク ) and he's after the Tear
that Cecilia holds.
==--====--==
The king tells you of the Castle Sewers as a possible escape route. A guard
interrupts to tell the group that the monsters have said that they're after
the Tear. Cecilia decides to give it to them to save people's lives but the
king forbids her giving over the powerful object.
==--====--==
When you regain control you'll be in Cecilia's room. You can now save
again - there's a memory bird here.
Exit to the South.
==--==
Exit straight ahead (the South-West exit).
==--==
You'll see a statue (a bust, actually). Walk up to it and hold down the
Circle button to grab hold of it. While holding the Circle button, drag it
back one space towards the North. Then push (or pull) it either one space
to the East or West so it's out of the way of the jutting balcony that it
was on.
Drop off the jutting balcony.
Ignore the West exit for now. Take the stairs to the South - don't go too
far East or you'll alert the guard.
Exit to the South.
==--==
Head down the stairs and make your way East until you're about halfway
between the stairs you walked down and the middle stairs (the ones with
blue carpet). If you go too far East you'll alert the guards who are at
the top of the blue-carpeted stairs.
You have to use Hanpen to run up the blue-carpeted stairs so that he
distracts the guards up there. I suggest facing East, using Hanpen, and
then turning Hanpen North once he's on the blue carpet. If he doesn't go
far enough, then edge your character a bit more to the East and try again.
You'll know you've done it right when the guards have some dialogue and run
North, chasing Hanpen. While they're distracted, take the stairs to the
North-East and exit to the North-East.
==--==
Don't go to far West or you'll alert the guard. Exit to the East.
==--==
Head to the end of the corridor and exit through the last door to the
North.
==--==
Switch to Cecilia and talk to the armoured guard (Ozma) - he'll give you
an event item:
Event Item: Shield Emblem ( 盾の徴章 )
You can talk to the people that you saved here to get items:
Dominic - Revive Fruit
Howard - 1 Gimel Coin
Katory - Gyara Beetle
Lisa - Lucky Card
Spinel - Potion Berry
Anderson - Small Flower
Exit to the South.
==--==
Exit to the West.
==--==
Head West until the guard spots you. You'll move to the top of the stairs
when he does.
Exit to the North.
==--==
You should see 2 reliefs in the shape of swords to the West and East of the
North exit. Walk up to and face the North East relief. Open your menu,
select the first option (items) and go to your event items (with R1 or L1).
Select the Shield Emblem ( 盾の徴章 ), the item with a brown shield for an
icon, and press the Circle button to use it. The relief should disappear -
exit through the new entrance.
==--====--====--====--==
DUNGEON: Adelhyde Dungeons ( アーデルハイド地下道 )
X: ?????? Y: ??????
All right, you're now in the Adelhyde Dungeons/Sewers.
Exit to the South
==--==
Bomb the crates to clear the path. There's a Potion Berry in the South-West
crate.
Exit to the South.
==--==
Basically, the tutorial tells you that if you stand underneath a grate and
press the Circle button, you will jump up and grab hold of the grate. You
can then use the direction buttons to move your way underneath the grate.
You can use the X button to drop back to the floor (keep an eye on your
shadow to determine where you'll drop). If you're hanging at the edge of
a grate, you can press the Circle button to flip up on top of the grate so
that you can walk around on it.
Head as far West as you can and then jump up and grab the grating (with the
Circle button). Move to the West or South edge of the grate and then flip
on top (with the Circle button). Open the chest to get:
Heal Berry x 3
Drop off the South-West part of the grate.
Exit to the West.
==--==
You can bomb the crate to get an ENC orb if you want. As this dungeon has
no monsters, you won't need it. It's actually there for much later on in
the game when you can optionally return here.
Follow the path to the North. Jump up and grab the grate at the end. Flip
up on top of it.
Exit to the East.
==--==
Exit to the East.
==--==
Grab onto the grate. Make your way East and drop down when you're safely
across the gap. Follow the path South, then East and climb down the stairs.
Exit to the West.
==--==
Take the South-East exit.
==--==
Open the chests to get:
1000 Gyara
Event Item: Four Witches Chapter 2 ( 四人の魔女 第二章 )
( The Four Witches Chapters are a series of books that, when read together,
tell a mini-story. It's the same idea as the set of books in Wild Arms 3.
If you collect them all, you will receive an EX File key. These keys can
be used to view extras such as movies and art galleries, depending on the
key. To use/read the Books, talk to the librarian at Curan Abbey. )
Head over to the wheel handle to the East. Turn it clockwise (to the right)
until you get a message.
Exit to the West.
==--==
You can now head over the makeshift bridge straight ahead (west) of you.
Exit to the West.
==--==
Bomb the crates. The South-East one has a Heal Berry, the South-West one
has a Revive Fruit.
Exit to the South.
==--==
Climb the ladder to exit.
==--====--====--====--==
You're now back in Adelhyde Town. Jump off the ledge and make your way
around to the centre of town (you'll see a couple of figures waiting
there).
Cutscene:
Berserk promises to spare the townspeople if you give over the Tear. After
Cecilia does so, not surprisingly, Berserk fails to live up to his word.
==--====--==
Boss: Berserk ( ベルセルク )
XP: 716
Gyara: 500
Items: None
Strategy:
He's weak against thunder (electricity), if you happen to have the
lightning spell. He tends to attack once every 3 rounds (starting with
the 1st round) - when he does attack he'll probably kill one of you. Use
a Revive Fruit if this happens. Pound him with Zack's Quick Draw skill and
Rody's special cartridges. (Berserk will also notice and comment on Rody's
ARM the first time you attack with him). He has around 450 - 600 HP.
==--====--==
Once you win, Berserk will retreat, taking the Golems from the Exhibition
Hall as he does.
Back in the King's room, Cecilia apologises to her father for giving up the
Tear. While her father is forgiving, Yohan, the prime-minister, is
certainly not. Cecilia is calm about accepting her responsibilities -
she's going to retrieve the Tear, and so she asks for Rody and Zack to
lend her their strength.
Rody immediately accepts but Zack believes her responsibilities as a
princess precludes her from getting her hands dirty with adventure.
Cecilia, however, believes that it is her royal duty to protect Fargaia,
so she's determined to go.
When Cecilia holds out her hand, she's asking for Zack's sword.
Hair, especially long hair, as I understand it, has a fair bit of symbolism
in Japanese folklore. Cutting your hair (especially if you were a samurai)
could be a sign of punishment or penitence, for example. In this case,
Cecilia's act of cutting her hair is probably meant to show that she is
willing to journey with the party as a normal person without privilege,
rather than as a princess. The king gets to see this display of strength
from his daughter just before he dies.
And there we have it. Roll credits, we're done. Just kidding - the credits
in the funeral cutscene are to show that the real story of the game is only
just starting (just like how in TV shows there's a couple of minutes of
action before the start credits roll). As with all major breaks in the
story, you'll be able to save here.
==--====--====--====--==
You'll regain control of your party - minus Cecilia. Exit Adelhyde Castle
and go to Adelhyde Town.
==--==
What a mess. If you talk to Mayor Howard, the one on the right of the two
guys standing in the centre of town, he'll tell you of a fund he's running
to rebuild Adelhyde. It's only 600,000 Gyara - bargain!
Obviously it's going to take a large chunk of the game to raise that amount
of money. I'd suggest not making yourself too poor in trying to cover it -
the easiest way to pay out this fund is to wait. There are a couple of
skill items you can easily acquire late in the game which sell for
phenomenal amounts of money. I do suggest that you give him 12,000 Gyara
as quickly as you can afford, however, as once you do that, you'll be able
to get a useful item (the Item Checker - アイテムチェッカー ) from Howard the next
time you talk to him.
When you're ready, exit to the Exhibition hall to the North-East.
==--==
There's a chest to the West with a:
Crest Graph
Break the various crates (pick them up and throw them) to get:
Potion Berry
Revive Fruit
Heal Berry
Witch Medicine
Exit back to Adelhyde Town.
==--==
Enter the royal tomb in the North of the town (North of the two men).
==--==
Cutscene:
Essentially this whole conversation boils down to Cecilia saying she's
okay and the others promising to back her up.
When you exit, Cecilia will give you your next destination - east of
Adelhyde, the Mountain Pass.
She also gives the party a new Party Item that the royal family had - the
Field Viewer ( フィールドビュワー ). Finally! Those X/Y coordinates I've been
giving will start to make sense.
Cecilia joins your party.
When you're ready, exit Adelhyde to the Field Map.
==--====--====--====--==
FIELD MAP
The Field Viewer gives you access to the World Map. Press SELECT once to
get a small map in the lower-right corner. Press SELECT again to get a
full screen map. Note the X:/Y: coordinates - these are your current
location. You'll notice a menu on the right - this is a list of known
locations. If you select a location it will be highlighted with a green
box on the map. You can press the left and right buttons to cycle through
the various location types - towns, dungeons, and others that will be
revealed later.
Flashing squares are "activated" locations that you haven't revealed on the
Field yet by Searching them out with the Square button. Red squares are
dungeons, green squares are towns. If a location is not on the map, then
you haven't activated it yet - you can't find towns or dungeons until
they're activated (flashing). You may need to talk to certain people or
read certain signs in order to activate your next location. Once the puzzle
box dungeons sub-quest is available, you'll be able to Search for them
without them appearing on the map.
Press SELECT again to get an overlay map. Press SELECT again for no map.
Navigating on the field map just got 100 times easier.
The North-most of the 2 blinking dungeons (red squares) is Zack's prologue
dungeon. If you're feeling a bit cheap, you can go there now and enter a
couple of passwords to get a Migrant Badge, some money and some items.
See the Extra Passwords section of the Appendix for that.
Otherwise, head East to the other dungeon, the Mountain Pass.
==--====--====--====--==
DUNGEON: Mountain Pass ( マウンテンパス )
X: 20250 Y: 18150
The sign warns you watch out for Trolls. You should really heed this
warning. If you encounter a Troll (they're bigger than you and the other
monsters in this dungeon) it will probably wipe the floor with you at this
stage. They're a pretty rare encounter though - I only encountered one in
the four times I've gone through this dungeon.
Exit to the South.
==--==
Don't go too far South - the way is trapped by hidden vines. They rise up
and block the way when you get too close - hurting you in the process. Pick
up the crates and throw them at the plant bulb in the middle of the path.
You'll need to hit it with two crates to destroy it. Alternatively, if you
can get close enough, you can Bomb these things to destroy them.
Destroying the bulb will destroy the vines connected to it. Destroy the
bulb on the ledge with the next 2 crates to clear the exit.
Exit to the East.
==--==
See that glowing light with the sword in it? That's one of Zack's Quick
Draw skills. Make sure that Zack is your on-screen character, and then
use the glowing circle to get:
Quick Draw: Strike Buddy ( ストライクバディ )
Strike Buddy always hits, but doesn't do massive damage. It's especially
useful for quick/flying enemies. If you use Accelerator+this skill, you'll
perform an attack on 1 group.
Head South. Bomb the bulb to destroy it.
Exit to the West.
==--==
Use the crates to destroy the bulb.
Lay some bombs near the wall in between the 3 crates that form a triangle -
you'll blow open a hidden cave.
Exit East through the hidden entrance.
==--==
Open the chests to get:
Heal Berry x 3
Crest Graph
Exit to the East.
==--==
Use the crates to destroy the bulb to the South-East.
Exit to the South-East.
==--==
Climb the ledge and drop down to the two chests. Open them to get:
Migrant Badge
Earth Gem x 5 ( アースジェム )
Drop off the North-West ledge and open the chest to get:
Nectar
Exit to the West.
==--==
Exit to the West.
==--==
Exit to the South-East.
==--==
Climb the North-West ledge, exit through the upper North-West exit.
==--==
Exit to the West.
==--==
Open the chest to get:
Death's Door FP UP ( 瀕死時FPアップ )
This will be your first skill. Skills are extremely useful and shouldn't
be ignored. Depending on the skill, they have various effects - they may
increase your HP, decrease the damage you take from elemental attacks, or
give you other bonuses. Check the item list at the end of the FAQ for a
description of the skills.
Skills need to be equipped. If you want two people to have a certain
skill, you will need to own two of that skill. Each skill costs a certain
amount of Personal Skill points (PS points) to equip. Each character has
the same amount of PS points as their level. A level 12 character would
have 12 PS points, for example, allowing them to equip 3 skills which cost
4 PS points each.
To equip a skill, open your menu with the Triangle button. Select the
second option, skill ( スキル ). You will be given 3 options. The first
option equips a skill. The second option unequips a skill. The third
option cancels.
Select the first option to equip a skill. Select a person to equip a skill
to. Select a "slot" to equip the skill to. Select the skill - if it's
greyed out then you either have the maximum amount of that type of skill
equipped, or else you don't have enough PS points to equip it. The PS cost
of a skill is displayed in the top right.
I suggest equipping the skill you just acquired on Cecilia. If she's got
this skill equipped and gets hurt enough to go to critical health, there's
a chance her FP will rise to 100%. This is handiest for her, due to her
summoning ability.
When you're ready, exit to the South.
==--==
Use Hanpen to open the chest:
Gyara Beetle
Exit to the South.
==--==
Use the crates to destroy the closest bulb. Open the 3 chests to get:
Lucky Card
1500 Gyara
Revive Fruit
This bit is a bit tricky. There's a bulb to the East that you have to
destroy but there's a lot of vines around. You need to head East and South
from the entrance until you're close enough to destroy the bulb. The
diagram below gives you an idea of how you have to move to line up with
the bulb. Destroy the bulb with a couple of crates.
South
XXXX
X**X O
X
entrance
X= vine, O= bulb, * = throw crates from here.
Open the chest in the centre of the room to get:
1 Gimel Coin
Destroy the last bulb on the ledge to the South-East.
Exit to the South
==--==
Destroy the bulb to the East, then destroy the one to the South. Open the
two chests to get:
Skill: Defenser 1 ( ディフェンサー1 )
Skill: Blocker 1 ( ブロッカー1 )
Defenser gives the wearer a chance of taking of taking the damage from an
attack aimed at another person. If Zack was wearing one, for example, and
Cecilia was attacked, there would be a chance that Zack would protect
Cecilia (taking the damage that Cecilia would have taken). It has some
use in protecting your weaker characters, but it's not the best skill out
there.
Blocker, however, is one of your best friends. You should equip it on
someone right now. While wearing it there's a chance that the wearer will
block an oncoming (physical) attack against them and take no damage. This
even works against boss characters and can save your life a dozen times
over during the game.
Exit to the South.
==--==
Read the sign - it'll give you directions to your next location, Water Town
Mirama (south of the Mountain Pass).
Exit to the South.
==--====--====--====--==
FIELD MAP
Make your way to Mirama. Remember to use SELECT to see your maps if you
can't find it. If there's no blinking green square South of the Mountain
Pass on the map, then you need to go back and read that sign in the last
room of the Mountain Pass.
==--====--====--====--==
TOWN: Water Town Mirama ( 水の町ミラーマ )
X: 21050 Y: 11000
Enter the first house on the left and talk to the girl there, Sati ( サティ ).
Sati has lost her stuffed toy turtle - she thinks it might have been dropped
at Sand River (North-West of town) and she begs you to find it.
Exit the town.
==--====--====--====--==
FIELD MAP
A new dungeon will be blinking on your map to the North-West. Head there
and Search to reveal the dungeon.
==--====--====--====--==
DUNGEON: Sand River ( サンドリバー )
X: 20100 Y: 12300
Make your way North. Ignore the monkey for now.
Exit to the West.
==--==
Bomb and open the chest to get:
Goods: Detector ( ディテクター )
The Detector is one of Rody's Goods. You use it to reveal hidden items and
switches. It also shows you any "container" in a room - by that I mean any
chest or barrel you can use to get an item. Try it out in this room
(remember that you can switch Goods with START, using the up/down buttons to
change characters and the left/right buttons to change Goods, finishing by
pressing the Circle button to confirm). You should see the Detector
highlight the two (currently unobtainable) chests.
Exit to the East.
==--==
Exit Sand River to the South.
==--====--====--====--==
FIELD MAP
Return to Mirama.
==--====--====--====--==
TOWN: Water Town Mirama ( 水の町ミラーマ )
X: 21050 Y: 11000
Enter the first house to the West and use the Detector. You'll see that the
East bed is highlighted with a search diamond. Go over and use the bed
(from the side the diamond is on) to get:
Event Item: Stuffed Toy ( ぬいぐるみ )
Walk over to the girl in the same room, open your menu and go to your
Event Items. Use the ぬいぐるみ (it has a green turtle for an icon) to give
it to her. She'll be very happy to get it back, and points you towards
the innkeeper as a person who might know something about Guardian legends.
Exit the house. Enter the Inn (the building in the North of town with red
and white striped awnings).
Talk to the Innkeep, Montague ( モンターグ ), and select the third option
( 会話 ) to talk to him. He'll try to recall some of the legends of the
Guardian Shrine that were taught to him by his father. While they're
waiting, Cecilia orders enough dishes for 6 people (which is why everyone
acts shocked). It turns out that magic really burns up the calories.
Montague returns after Cecilia's snack with directions to the Guardian
Shrine - it's North of Mirama. You'll rest at the inn for the night. Do
any shopping you want.
When you're ready, exit Mirama.
==--====--====--====--==
FIELD MAP
Head North to the Guardian Shrine.
==--====--====--====--==
DUNGEON: Guardian Shrine ( 守護獣神殿 )
X: 21450 Y: 13950
You can get the answer for this puzzle from Montague back in Mirama. Note
the two wheel handles, one to either side of the clock. These control the
small/big hands on the clock.
Turn the East handle clockwise (to the right) so that the big hand points
downwards to 6 ( VI ). Then go over to the West handle and keep turning it
clockwise - you should activate the puzzle when you're about a third of
the way between 3 and 4 (making the time on the clock 3:30)
Once the path is open, exit to the North-East.
==--==
Use your Detector to reveal hidden exits. Note that these hidden exits only
work (you can only walk through them) while the Detector is going. So if
you wait a few seconds for the Detector to stop, and then try walking
through the hidden exits, you'll walk into solid rock. Once you go through
a hidden exit, it usually stays visible if you return to the room.
Exit through the central North exit.

Open the chest to get:
Revive Fruit
Exit to the South.
==--==
Use your Detector. Exit to the North-West.

Exit to the East.
==--==
Use your Detector. Exit to the North (behind the statues).
==--==
Approach the blue staff to the North and touch it. You'll be asked a
Point-of-no-Return question. If you have pressing unfinished business in
this part of the world, select the second option to abort. To continue,
select the first option. You will be able to return to this part of the
world, it just wont be for a few hours of gametime.
Once you decide to go forward, you'll have to face three Guardians (Earth,
Fire and Wind) one-on-one to prove your worth. You'll be asked to select
which of Rody, Zack and Cecilia will face each Guardian. In order, the
Guardians are:
First question - chosen person will face the Earth Guardian.
Second question - chosen person will face the Fire Guardian.
Last question - chosen person will face the Wind Guardian.
It really doesn't matter which character you choose for which Guardian - if
Cecilia has an opposite elemental spell (Vortex against Earth, Freeze
against Fire, Crush against Wind) then select the appropriate Guardian for
her. It's probably better if Rody goes up against the Fire Guardian, as it's
an aerial foe. But in the end it's up to you - I don't believe that these
fights can be lost.
Once you make your 3 selections you will get one more question - this one is
asking you if you're sure of the selections you made. If you want to change
your battle order, select the second option to rechoose your combatants. When
you're sure, select the first option to continue.
==--==
No matter who you selected to fight what Guardian, you'll start with Rody.
Each character has to negotiate a small dungeon before they have their boss
battle. Note that for simplicity's sake, I'll list the boss fights in the
order you'd take them if you just selected the defaults (Gurujief vs Rody,
Ma Garuto vs Zack, Fengaron vs Cecilia).
In Rody's first room, you need to bomb the 4 cat statues - bombing them will
sink them into the ground. If you wait too long, the statues will rise
again. Just walk to each of the statues, laying bombs near them as you walk,
and you should have enough time to get all 4 without even having to dash.
Once all four statues are down (at the same time) the North exit will open.
Exit to the North.
==--==
Bomb the 2 statues to open a passage in the wall. If you dally too long, the
passage will close again. To be sure, set the two bombs and then dash
through the maze while their fuses are burning - you'll easily be close
enough to the passage if you do that.
Exit to the North.
==--==
Start laying bombs at the North-West statue, then the South-West, then the
South-East, then the North-East. If you take the straightest path you can
between each statue (and dash where you can), you should be able to sink
all four statues before the first begins to rise again.
Once all 4 statues are down, a staff will appear to the North of the room.
Touch it.
==--====--==
Boss: Gurujief ( グルジエフ )
XP: Variable (depends on damage you cause. For example, I received 641)
Gyara: 200
Items: Skill: Earth Resistance 2 ( 地属性耐性 )
Strategy:
This is by no means hard. Pour your special cartridges into him to try and
get as much damage as possible (as noted above, the more damage you do, the
more XP you get). The battle ends after 3 rounds.
==--====--==
Cutscene:
Rody will have a vision of Tony (that kid from Surf Village) crying about
monsters. After Rody kills a monster that was behind him, he realises that
Tony (and the other villagers who appear and taunt him) meant him - it was
Rody that was the monster.
==--==
You'll now be in control of Zack. Make your way around the ledge and step on
one of the switches. While you stand on that switch, use Hanpen to activate
the other one to open the door.
Exit to the North.
==--==
Stand on the North switch, use Hanpen to activate the South switch.
Exit to the North.
==--==
Push the South block (by holding down Circle and using the direction
buttons) 2 spaces to the West. Climb the stairs and use Hanpen to hit the
South switch.
Now move the North block 1 space North, and move the South block 1 space to
the East and 3 spaces to the North (so the blocks form together into a
bridge halfway across the gap). Climb the stairs, cross the top of the
blocks as far as you can go, and face the North switch (you'll be facing
North-East). Use Hanpen to leap the gap and activate the switch.
Touch the staff that appears.
==--====--==
Boss: Ma Garuto ( ムァ・ガルト )
XP: Variable (depends on damage you do)
Gyara: 200
Items: Skill: Fire Resistance 2 ( 火属性耐性 )
Strategy:
The fight ends after 3 rounds. If you're facing Ma Garuto with Zack you'll
need to use your aerial attack (Speed Buddy) to hit.
==--====--==
Cutscene:
Zack obtains a sword with ultimate strength, but he's still not good enough
to save the people he had been seeking it for.
==--==
You'll now control Cecilia. Use the Tinder Staff to light the South-West
brazier to create a path. Cross it and light the North-East brazier to
complete the path.
Exit to the North.
==--==
Light the South-West brazier. Cross the path it creates. Light the East
brazier. Cross the path it creates. Light the North-East and North-West
braziers. Hurry across the path.
You don't have much time to make it across - make sure you hold down the
Square button so you can swing the Tinder Staff around to light the 2nd
brazier each time.
When you're across, touch the blue staff.
==--====--==
Boss: Fengaron ( フェンガロン )
XP: Variable (depends on the damage you do to it)
Gyara: 200
Items: Skill: Wind Resistance 2 ( 風属性耐性 )
Strategy:
Fight ends after 3 rounds. Cast Crush if you have it, or Devastate if you
don't have Crush. If you have neither of those spells, cast any offense
spell besides Vortex.
==--====--==
Cutscene:
Cecilia will be in Adelhyde Castle's throneroom. Her double wonders if she
cut her hair to escape the responsibilities of royalty, rather than from
any noble purpose. There is a freedom in being a normal person, after all.
==--==
Cutscene:
After this test of spiritual strength, the Guardians warn that the Tear can
end life on Fargaia in the hands of the demons and their leader, Mother
( マザー )
Cecilia, determined to become strong to help defend humanity, accepts the
Guardians' strength. They tell you that you must face Mother and her
second-in-command, Siegfried ( ジークフリード ), before it is too late.
==--==
Cutscene:
You'll cut to another shadowy area. Siegfried, the guy in dark armour,
senses the Guardians' gathering of power. Lady Harken ( レディ・ハーケン ), the
woman in red armour, isn't too worried about the humans teaming up with the
Guardians. Alhazard ( アルハザード ), the floating robed thing that teleports in,
is more interested in the Elw, an advanced race that disappeared from
Fargaia during the wars a thousand years ago.
Berserk joins them, saying he wants to play with the humans some more. These
4 are called the Quarter Knights ( ナイト・クォーターズ ), the four demon generals of
Mother.
==--==
Cutscene:
Back to your party. Cecilia receives:
Medium: Earth's Roar ( 大地の唸り )
Medium: Conflagration's Hatred ( 烈火の怒り )
Medium: Hurricane's Claw ( 疾風の爪 )
This means she can now summon the Earth, Fire and Wind Guardians (as well
as the Water one she already had). Remember that Mediums are what Cecilia
uses to access the Guardians power.
You'll receive directions to your next village, Baska.
==--====--====--====--==
FIELD MAP
Head North-West to Baska Village.
==--====--====--====--==
TOWN: Baska Village ( バスカー集落 )
X: 20000 Y: 3850
You can buy a Migrant Badge for 5000 Gyara off the man in the yellow hat
(to the West).
Enter the house to the East of the memory bird and talk to the Chief (the
old man standing next to the dog.) He'll know who you are before you tell
him thanks to spiritual powers. The chief will suggest you go to Sacred
Mount Zenom.
Back in the village, you can break the crates to the North-East (behind
the houses) to get some items including a Force Carrot ( フォースキャロット ).
Force Carrots, when used in battle, instantly raise the recipient's FP to
100%. They're semi-rare, so should normally be saved for boss battles.
When you're ready, exit the town.

Use your Tinder Staff to clear the sparkling icicles.
Exit to the East.
==--==
Take the South-East slope. There's a rock-bridge halfway along the path.
You need to Shinobi-walk (tiptoe) to cross it (hold down X and use the
direction buttons to tiptoe).
Exit to the North.
==--==
Lay some Bombs at the East wall (where the 3 ENC orbs form an arrow) to
reveal a hidden exit. Exit to the East.
==--==
Clear the icicles with the Tinder Staff. Open the North chest to get:

Open the South chest to get:
Lucky Card
Exit to the West.
==--==
Drop down to the small ledge with the 2 braziers. There's an invisible
path across the gap. To reveal it, use your Tinder Staff - the heat
will make the tiles visible for a moment. Memorise where the path is and
start crossing it (Tinder Staffing along the way so you don't fall off
into nothing). You can use Hanpen to open the chest:
Heal Berry x 3
Exit to the West.
==--==
Use Hanpen to open the chest.
Fire Gem x 5 ( ファイアジェム )
Clear the icicle blocking the North-West exit. Exit to the North-West.

After Cecilia thanks Rody, head up the previously blocked path.
Exit to the North-East.
==--==
Exit to the North-West.
==--==
Clear the icicles. Open the chests:
Skill: Critical 1 ( クリティカル )
Party Item: Route Conductor ( ルートコンダクター )
Finally! The Route Conductor tells you what floor you're on in dungeons
(check the lower right hand corner of the screen). It also marks exits
you have not yet gone through with a blue pyramid. It marks exits you have
used (or entered through) in yellow/orange. Directions in this FAQ will be
a lot easier to follow now that you have this thing.
The Critical skill is fairly straight-forward. Wearing it increases the
chances of performing a critical hit (extra damage) when using your normal
attacks (you can't get a critical when using Quick Draws or Special
Cartridges)
Exit to the East.
==--==
Floor 008
Head up the slope. Exit to the North-East.
==--==
Floor 009
Use your Tinder Staff to reveal the hidden path across the gap. If you go
to the East ledge, you can bomb the wall to reveal a hidden exit.
Exit to the East.
==--==
Floor 010
Open the red chest to get:
Duplicator x 3
The ornate orange chest is a duplicator chest. Just like the duplicator
door in Adelhyde Castle (the one Zack was examining when Rody recruited
him into the party) you need to use a Duplicator item to open it. Simply
face a duplicator chest/door (make sure you're close), then open your item
menu and use a duplicator to open it (duplicators are in your general
inventory, they have a key for an icon).
You can open the duplicator chest to get:
Skill: Initiative ( イニシアチブ )
Initiative increases the chances of you ambushing the enemy (getting a free
attack round at the start of combat).
Exit to the West.
==--==
Floor 009
Tinder Staff to see the hidden path. Exit to the North.
==--==
Floor 011
Tinder Staff the icy boulder to get rid of the ice. Then lay 4 or more

Floor ???
You'll face Berserk here.
==--====--==
Boss: Berserk ( ベルセルク )
XP: 1135 (may be variable - see below)
Gyara: 550
Items: None
Strategy:
Berserk is weak to thunder (electricity). He still only has one attack but
it still has a good chance of killing one of you if it hits. Luckily he
seems to only attack every second turn (giving you time to revive dead
companions). I believe this fight goes for 5 turns, rather than ending by
how much damage you do, so the XP you get may vary depending on how much
damage you do to Berserk.
==--====--==
Cutscene:
Well, you're in trouble. Luckily this dungeon had a teleporter trap set,
which catches Berserk before he could mince you.
==--==
Floor 012
Exit to the South.
==--==
Cutscene:
The thing in the jar is Mother, leader of the demons. The green-haired man
is Zet ( ゼト ) - the best way to describe him is that he's a wannabe. He's
a demon lieutenant who looks up to Siegfried and wants to be one of the
Quarter Knights.

Cutscene:
Ouch. This town's got a force field set up to protect it from monsters.
It looks like Hanpen set it off. Zack shows Hanpen to Larry ( ラリー ), the
guy who came to investigate, to show that the mouse is harmless. Hanpen
doesn't react well to Larry's question of whether he's a pet. After that,
Larry lets you through.
Enter the circular tower to the North and talk to the man there ( ヘネンロッター )
and select the first option when he asks you if you'd like to help the town.
He'll give you directions to the Caging Tower and give you a 2000 Gyara down
payment to clear it out.
When you're ready, exit the town.

Mother has sent Alhazard to take out the Guardian statue at Saint Central,
which he'll do once he's taken care of you. After your first meeting with
Alhazard, he summons a Night Gaunt to test you.
==--====--==
Boss: Night Gaunt ( ナイトゴーント )
XP: 260
Gyara: 3000
Items: None
Strategy:
It's weak against Earth and Light, so summon your Earth Guardian when you
can.Try not to use all your Special Cartridges and Zacks/Cecilias MP on
this one as you have to face another fight after this. You can afford to
fire off a couple of special bullets, though, to make it go quicker.
==--====--==
Cutscene:
Alhazard's impressed with your victory over the Night Gaunt. However,
turnabout is fair play and just like Berserk got caught in a trap at Mount
Zenom, Alhazard lures you into a trap here. It's not called the Caging
Tower for nothing.
Enter a young girl and her companion. She's after the treasure of the Night
Gaunt, but you're sure no Night Gaunt. She offers to release you for a fee.
Cecilia protests that they're trying to save Fargaia, but the girl cuts her
off with a "non non non" - the same words used in the taunting note next
to the empty treasure chest in Zack's prologue dungeon.
The girl refuses to hear your story - it's as simple as pay her or don't
get rescued. She asks for 5000 Gyara. You'll have two options - the first
pays the ransom. The second refuses. You can't get anywhere with the second
option if you've got the money.
Just grit your teeth and pay.
Interestingly, the girl is an ARM user as well. She introduces herself
as Jane Maxwell ( ジェーン・マックスウェル ), or Jane ( ジェーン ) to go by her first name.
The man, Magdalen ( マクダレン ) , notes that she's also known as Calamity Jane,
a name which the girl doesn't like at all.
When more monsters intervene, they leave. They're more interested in the
treasure then the monsters.
==--====--==
Boss: Night Gaunt x 3
XP: 780
Gyara: 900
Items: Skill: Sleep Resistance 2 ( 眠り耐性 )
Strategy:
I hope you didn't have too much trouble with the last Night Gaunt, as now
you're facing three. Concentrate Rody and Zack on one Night Gaunt while you
build Cecilia's FP to 50% so you can summon the Earth Guardian. You can also
try out Rody's third cartridge, with its group attack ability, but it often
misses.
==--====--==
Your party suggest returning to Saint Central. Sounds like a good idea.
==--====--====--====--==
FIELD MAP
Return to Saint Central.
==--====--====--====--==
TOWN: Saint Central ( セントセントール )
X: 13800 Y: 24600
Careful - the town's defenses are down and it has been overrun. You'll now
get random monster encounters here. With the townspeople fled (or worse),
there are now a few chests you can open.
Enter the South-West building and take the West exit. It's hard to see due
to the building getting in the way, but there's a chest to the West:
Force Carrot x 3
There's a chest behind the Magic Guild counter:
Migrant Badge
Take the Southern entrance to the East house (second from the South).
There's a chest here:
Skill: Sleep Resistance 2
Enter the central tower and read the book in the bookcase. You need to do
this to get the location of the next Elw teleporter. Exit the tower.
Climb the stairs to either side of the tower, then climb the slope up to
the broken statue. Use the statue. The statue was home to a Guardian -
it's why the town had a protection field, and why Mother sent Adelhyde to
destroy it.
Cecilia receives:
Medium: Saint's Sorrow ( 聖者の悲しみ )
Summoning this Guardian (for 25 FP) casts a protection field on your front
row, reducing damage.
Exit the town.
==--==
Cutscene:
Mother and Siegfried are certain they have Fargaia in the palm of their
hand. Alhazard acts as the voice of caution on the potential of the
strength caused by combining human and Guardian strength.
==--====--====--====--==
FIELD MAP
Back to your party. If you read the bookshelf in the central tower in Saint
Central, you'll have your next destination (the new Elw Shrine to the
South-West). If not, go read the book, then head for the new Elw Shrine.
==--====--====--====--==
SHRINE: Elw Shrine ( エルゥのほこら )

If you open the duplicator door, there are 2 chests in the room beyond.
They contain:
Potion Berry x 5
Crest Graph
Otherwise, head up and use the teleporter.
Once you teleport, exit South.
Behind the duplicator door here is 2 chests:
5000 Gyara
Skill: Amnesia Resistance 2 ( 忘却耐性 )
When you're ready, exit to the Field Map.
==--====--====--====--==
FIELD MAP
Head to the next location, Port Timony.
==--====--====--====--==
TOWN: Port Timony ( 港町ティムニー )
X: 9450 Y: 8200
Some of the large crates have holes in them (use R2+Circle to find them).
Bomb them to create an opening, and walk inside the crates to get:
Skill: Poison Resistance 2 ( 毒耐性 )
Skill: Defense Up 2 ( 防御アップ )
Enter the Inn (the house behind the memory bird). Talk to the man sitting
at the North-West table. This is Bartholomew ( バーソロミュー ). He'll ask if you
want to hear his tale. Select the first option to agree.
He's made a bet with a rival captain, Drake, that involves a special flower
and a ceremony. Unfortunately he doesn't have the flower - a legendary
beast of the dunes, the Phantom does. The interesting part of this is that
in this ceremony, he was going to show the flower to a Guardian on his ship
The Guardian bit piques your party's interest, so they agree to help.
There's a duplicator chest on the second floor - it only has 3 Revive
Fruits in it, though.
Exit the Inn. Climb up the stairs to the South of the Inn and cross the
bridge that goes to the West. Enter the house there (the house North-West
of the town's entrance). Talk to the man in a lab-coat, the monster
specialist Wilbur ( ウィルパー ). Talk to him a second time --you'll get two
options. The first gives you a showcase of special monsters that you've
fought. Select the second option - he'll give you the location of the
Phantom that has Bartholomew's flower.
Exit Port Timony.
==--====--====--====--==
FIELD MAP
Equip every status resistance skill you've got - especially versus sleep
and poison. Head to the dunes to the East (approximate co-ordinates of
X: 10500/Y:9000) and get into fights. If you've talked to Wilbur, it
shouldn't take more than a fight or two before you face the Phantom.
==--====--==
Boss: Phantom ( ファントム )
XP: 1125
Gyara: 750
Items: Crystal Flower ( 水晶の花 ), Potion Berry x 3
Strategy:
Phantom - Ghost who walks, man who cannot die. This guy is seriously
annoying - he uses a lot of status attacks. He's weak against Water and
Light. He can counter-attack. As mentioned above, make sure you've equipped
all the status resistance skills you've got before going into this battle.
He'll also use the Pressure attack a few rounds in, so any Water Resistance
helps as well.
You've got about 7 or 8 rounds before he retreats, so you have to take him
down quickly. If you're having trouble beating him with your special
attacks then use a Force Carrot on Cecilia and summon the Water Guardian
a couple of times. He has around 1500-2000 HP.
==--====--====--====--==
FIELD MAP
Return to Timony.
==--====--====--====--==
TOWN: Port Timony ( 港町ティムニー )
X: 9450 Y: 8200
Go to the Inn and use the Crystal Flower ( 水晶の花 ) on Bartholomew.
Bartholomew offers 3000 Gyara for it - you can select the second option
to haggle for a higher price, if you'd like, or select the first option
to accept the money.
A man in pink, Drake, will block Bartholomew's exit. Drake will start
taunting Bartholomew (to the amusement of his followers). Unfortunately
the ceremony that the flower is for is a wedding ceremony and Bartholomew
has no bride. It looks like Bartholomew was trying to prove to Drake he was
the lady's man, and it all went a bit too far. Stuck in a bind, Bartholomew
decides to use Cecilia to trick Drake into believing he has a willing bride.
Drake's not falling for it, however, so Bartholomew gets suckered into
getting married tomorrow to prove himself. Bartholomew invites you to
his ship, the Sweet Candy ( スイートキャンディ号 ), in preperation for the sham
wedding ceremony.
==--==
You'll regain control of your party on the Sweet Candy. You need to speak
with everyone on board so that you can get information on the ceremony
(as the ceremony is also a multiple-question exam). There are four people
to talk to:
1st cabin East of Bartholomew's cabin - Hershell ( ハーシェル )
2nd cabin East of Bartholomew's cabin - Gordon ( ゴードン )
Up the stairs - Louis ( ルイス )
The last person, the engineer Tom ( トム ), is behind a locked door to the
East of the cabins. In front of the door are three wheel handles. Turn
them like this to open the door:
Turn the Right (East-most) handle to the right.
Turn the middle handle to the left.
Turn the left handle to the right.
The door should now open. Enter and talk to Tom. Go back to the first cabin
and talk to Hershell again - you should now be given the option to rest for
the night. Select the first option to rest for the night and begin the
wedding.
==--==
The next day starts with the sham wedding between Cecilia and Bartholomew.
The Priest will ask you several questions - answering them correctly will
get you a reward a bit later on. There are twelve questions. The best
answers for the questions are:
Q12 - Option 1 or 2
After the ceremony, Zet makes his debut.
==--====--==
Boss: Zet ( ゼト )
XP: 1200
Gyara: 550
Items: None
Strategy:
He has no elemental weaknesses or strengths. He can sometimes counterattack.
Zet's not really that hard, unless your level is low. Hit him with special
attacks and use Cecilia to heal where need be. Zet's attacks don't really
do enough to get you into trouble, so this shouldn't be too hard. He's got
around 2000 HP.
==--====--==
CUTSCENE:
Looks like Zet was just a distraction. Zack uses his Quick Draw technique
on Lady Harken, but it looks like she's got similar techniques herself.
After destroying the guardian seal, Harken will tell you where she's from -
Artica Castle, and will tell you of the demon base, the Photosphere. After
all, it's clear you're not a threat to her, so if you go there you'll only
be going to your death.
Cecilia will receive a new Medium from the remains of the seal:
Medium: Thunder's Fang ( 雷鳴の牙 )
Cecilia now has the Thunder (electrical) Guardian at her call.
You'll return to Bartholomew's cabin. He declares you to be his heart's
amigos. He'll also reward you for the amount of right answers you gave in
the wedding ceremony (as the less wrong answers you gave, the less he would
have been embarassed in front of Drake). If you answered as noted above,
you'll get:
5000 Gyara
Ambrosia
Nectar
He'll also give you:
Goods: Magic Staff ( マジックスタッフ )
You can use Cecilia's Magic Staff on animals (you bop them on the head with
it) - it allows you to talk to them. Some animals have useful information
such as where to go next or other secrets you wouldn't otherwise find.
==--==
You'll regain control of your party on the docks of Port Timony. Use your
Magic Staff on the brown cat in the West area of the docks (near the exit).
It'll tell you the location of a new Elw Shrine. When you're ready, exit
the town.
==--==
CUTSCENE:
Mother emerges from her regeneration cocoon, and Siegfried talks of their
plans to take over this planet as their new homeworld. Mother seems more
interested in destroying the planet, however.
The Guardians can sense the danger to Fargaia, and warn Cecilia.

doing the attack to get you to 1 HP and then attacking you with a normal

lift certain large boxes with the Circle button, and punch other types of
large boxes with the Square button (moving them one or more squares,
depending on the box's weight). They also allow you to turn some handles
that are too stuck for normal strength - there's one in the pump station
at Water Town Mirama, for example.
Drop off the ledge and climb the stairs. Exit to the North-East.

Floor 002
Select your Might Gloves to wear them. Head West to the 2 crates.
Stand East of the West-most crate. Pick it up (with Circle). Note that you
can't walk around with these heavier crates, but you can change the
direction you're facing (and therefore the direction you can put the crate
down).
Place the crate to the East (onto the lower floor)
Stand East of the same block, pick it up and place it to the South.
Stand South of the same block, pick it up and place it East (onto the
switch).
Stand West of the other block. Pick it up and place it to the West.
Stand North of that block. Pick it up and place it West onto the higher
ledge.
Stand West of the block, pick it up and place it North onto the second
switch.
The North-West door will open. Exit North-West.

Stand West of the South-most crate. Use Square to punch it 1 square East.
Stand South of the same block and puch it 3 times to the North.
Punch it 1 block to the West so that it's on the switch.
Stand East of the other crate. Punch it 2 West, 2 South, 1 West, 1 South,
3 East onto the other switch.
The door will open. Exit to the North.

Boss: Captain Geist ( キャプテンガイスト )
XP: 2160 (may vary depending on how many Hatred Souls you destroy)
Gyara: 1100
Items: Event Item: Repair Toolbox ( 修理用工具箱 )
Strategy:
He can sometimes counterattack. He's weak against Light. Captain Geist will
summon Hatred Souls ( ヘイトリッドソウル ). If you don't destroy them, Geist will
use them in a super attack. I'd suggest ignoring them, though, and just
keeping your HP up so that the you can survive the occasional super attack.
Geist has around 2500 HP.

Floor 013
It seems that Captain Geist was the only thing keeping this ship floating.
You have 15 minutes to escape, or it's game over.
Climb the ladder to the South-West and down the one to the South-East.
Ignore the chests - you can get them after you leave the ship.
Exit down the stairs.

Floor 010
You'll be forced into an encounter here with 2 Helter Skelters (skeletons).
Defeat them as quickly as you can - use Rody's cartridges if you have to.
Climb the ladder to the North-East. Drop down to the lowest floor (to the
West or North). Climb the stairs (don't forget to use the medipack if you're
injured). Drop off the ledge to the West.
Exit to the South.

Floor 002
Another forced fight - 2 Helter Skelters and 1 Rachael.
After the fight, exit to the South-West.

Floor 001
Exit the dungeon down the stairs to the West.
==--====--====--====--==
CUTSCENE:
Well, that's one dungeon you won't be returning to. Bartholomew offers you
the services of his ship (the Sweet Candy) and Tom, one of the crew, leaves
with the Toolbox that you took off Captain Geist to help repair Adelhyde.
Once you have control, exit to the main section of the Ships Graveyard.
You'll see that those four chests from floor 013 of the Ghost Ship have
washed ashore here. Open the three green/blue chests to get:
Skill: Defense Up 2
Event Item: Blue Conscience ( 蒼い良心 )
Skill: Ice Resistance 2
Bomb and open the brown chest to get:
Cartridge: Gatling Raid ( ガトリングレイド )
Gatling Raid fires all the normal bullets you currently have loaded at one
target. The power of this shell corresponds to the amount of normal bullets
your ARM fires, along with the Attack level of your ARM. Potentially the
most powerful Cartridge in your arsenal, if you upgrade your ARM well. Its
disadvantage lies in your having to reload after using it before you can
use it again. You can, however, fire the other special cartridges while
your normal bullet clip is empty, so you can use this shell as an opening
salvo. If you want to use this cartridge I suggest upgrading your normal
bullet size to around 7 or 8, and putting a significant amount of the rest
of your upgrades into attack power.
Talk to the bald man halfway up the stairs towards the exit (Owen - オーウェン )
to get the location of the next town.
Exit the Ships Graveyard.

FIELD MAP
You now have access to the Sweet Candy, Bartholomew's ship. To board it,
walk up to it and press the Circle button. You can only disembark from the
ship at beaches. To disembark, touch a beach section of land and press the
X button. You can search at sea (although you'll need the Item Checker in
order to find anything - you get this item by donating 12000 Gyara to the
mayor in Adelhyde). You can sail on deep water with the ship, but cannot
cross shoals/fjords (light blue/green stretches of water). Lastly you can
press START while on the ship to explore the ship. You can then talk to
Bartholomew and select the first option to return to the world view.
Enter the ship and sail West past the mountains. Land at the beach at
X:12300/Y:12450, and walk South to Rosetta Town.
==--====--====--====--==
TOWN: Rosetta Town ( タウンロゼッタ )
X: 14300 Y: 11100
Enter the Inn and use Rody's detector. You'll see that there is something
in the North-East corner - use Hanpen to get it:
Skill: Support Attack ( サポートアタック )
This skill will become useful once you have a back row. I'll explain it
later. Exit the Inn.
Talk to Malchero ( マルチェロ ), the man on the stairs in the North of town to
get the location of the Giant's Cradle, a dungeon you'll be visiting later
on.
You can Bomb the cliff to the North-West of town (use R2+Circle to see the
spot - it's behind the first houses to the North-West) to find a small cave.
In that cave is a sleeping girl. If you Tinder Staff her, she'll wake up,
but she'll still be woozy from sleep. Set all (7 or 8 of) your bombs at her
feet to wake her up. The girl's name is Armengard ( アーメンガード ) - you can
talk to her to get trivia about whatever day your PS2's system clock is
set to.
Enter the very large house at the top of the North stairs. Once inside
you'll see two boys. Ignore them, and take the North-West door. Once in
the new room, head up to the second level of the room where the beds are.
Talk to the man in the last bed, Mayor Harvey ( 町長ハーベイ ).
Harvey believes that his illness is the result of an Elw curse coming from
the forest to the South-East, and asks you to help lift the curse.
Exit the town.
==--====--====--====--==
FIELD MAP
Head South-East into the nearby forest and Search for the Secret Garden.
==--====--====--====--==
TOWN: Secret Garden ( 秘密の花園 )
X: 15100 Y: 10200
CUTSCENE:
It seems that there are still some beautiful places left on this arid
planet. You meey the gardener who, logically, is too cute to be putting
curses on people. The girl is an Elw, a race which disappeared from Fargaia
during the wars a thousand years ago. She's quite worried that you'll react
badly to her non-humanness
Zack has a nice speech here about how everyone he knows is different, so
an Elw girl doesn't seem strange. Cecilia asks the girl where the Elw went
1000 years ago. The girl replies that she is the only Elw on Fargaia.
You're interrupted by Ses and Richard, the Mayor's bratty sons. Because the
girl isn't human, it looks like they've been bullying her and destroying
her flowers. When Zack walks up to them, they try to cow him by saying
that the Rosetta mayor is their daddy. It's clear that they think the Elw
girl cursed their father, causing his sickness.
Zack shows admirable restraint, and doesn't draw his sword. After the kids
run off, the girl gives her name - Marielle ( マリエル ).
You move into her house where she thanks you for protecting her and her
flowers from the boys. She pulls out a shard of something that belonged to
her brother. It is a piece broken from a larger blade. In order to use the
shard's secret and return to her brother, she needs to be strong. But
Marielle does not think she is strong.
Marielle tends to the flowers for more reasons than just their beauty. Many
of the flowers have healing properties, for example. She knows a plant that
can cure Mayor Harvey, but she was too afraid to get it.
You'll rest for the night.
Once you have control of your party, use Rody's Detector and use the barrel
it highlights to receive:
Skill: Flowering Love Sentiment ( 草花を慈しむ心 )
This skill is very useful. The character wearing it will get a double effect
from using berrys/other plant items. So if the character uses a Heal Berry,
it will heal 200 HP rather than 100 HP for example. I suggest equipping it
on Zack. Due to his accelerator skill, Zack should be your backup healer
(healing someone who was hurt in the previous round before they get hit
again the next round), and this will make his healing twice as effective.
Exit to the Field Map.
==--====--====--====--==
FIELD MAP
Head South to the other nearby forest and search for the Saint's Forest
Mound.
==--====--====--====--==
LOCATION: Saint's Forest Mound ( 聖森の塚 )
X: 14900 Y: 7550
Head North to the tree stump that has some flowers in front of it. Use the
tree stump.
CUTSCENE:
Marielle, who had accompanied you, tells you that these flowers will cure
the Mayor's sickness. The boys return (throwing around their daddy's name
again) but this time Marielle stands up to them and asks them to not destroy
the flowers.
Richard refuses to listen to an Elw, though, and pushes her back. Rody does
something that we probably all want to do to the kid, and Ses warns him that
he's going to tell his Daddy. Scary.
Zacl interrupts here, telling the kids that the flowers the party are
protecting can save the kids dad. Cecilia points out that humans and Elw
were both born from Fargaia, but then corrects herself. Everyone born under
the stars has the same thoughts and feelings, and so shouln't be treated
differently.
The boys essentially call the party bullys for using their strength like
this, before they run off. Rody is clearly affected by this claim, as he
looks at the hand he used to slap Richard.
You'll receive an event item:
Event Item: Hermit Gr
