1.1 Introduction
-------------------
Especially if you already got yourself a strategy guide for this game, you'd
think you are already well informed of everything there is to know. Still,
>90% of the time when you fuse, you're only interested raising the Equip %
of your items; and >90% of those times, you are only working on 1 stat.
Considering that, it must be awfully inconvenient to have to open a .pdf and
constantly scroll up and down (and left and right, unless you have a 27"
monitor) 27 pages (if DoubleJump books is the one you are using) and still
not have all the numbers you need in front of you.
So this guide aims to present information the way you are most likely to
need it = the order you want to fuse your items = the order of their Equip %.
1.2 What is Fusion?
----------------------
Fusion is the act of merging 2 items together. You can also fuse 2 characters
together, or 1 item with 1 character. It is extremely important for boosting
the power of your characters an items.
** In this guide I will call the item/character you keep after fusion (the **
** first one) the subject, and the item/character you lose (the second **
** one) the material. **
In any case the subject remains largely unchanged but the material disappears
completely. It's possible for the subject to gain other properties the
materials has had.
If you have come across the term before in La Pucelle Tactics, know that
fusion in the 2 games are rather different and share only the name and the
general purpose.
1.3 How can I Fuse?
----------------------
First, you will need to defeat a fusionist in battle. That will unlock the
Fusionist class for you to create fusionist characters (you only really need
1). You will find one in the opposite corner of the map in the first battle
of the second episode. It's also possible to find one in random dungeons.
Further, there's also an alternative species of fusionists you can unlock for
the same function.
Next, of course, you will create a fusionist. The cost to fuse things is
sometimes affected by the level of the fusionist. So it can be a good idea to
include the fusionist in your fighting plans to keep her level up. For a
ultility character the fusionist's fighting potential is not too shabby.
Should you go this course it's not a bad idea to invest in the fusionist's
experience.
Lastly, talk to Marona to summon the fusionist onto your island. You can now
fuse by talking to your fusionist! (even if she's level 1)
1.3.1 Why Fuse?
----------------
Well obviously, fusion (when done correctly) gives your characters and items
all kinds of boosts so the next time you go into battle you hit so much
harder it's easier for you to tell yourself you're playing like a pro.
** In this guide I will call the item/character you keep after fusion (the **
** first one) the subject, and the item/character you lose (the second **
** one) the material. **
As long as you have the items and characters to fuse and they have mana, you
can have lots of options to what you can get out of fusion:
Fusion:
- is the only way to increase the max. lvl of your items and characters
- adds the material's mana to the subject
- at a cost of mana, lets the subject gain any skill the material has had
(the following only applies to item-item fusion)
- can increase the base stats of the subject item
- can increase the equip rate of the subject item
(the following only applies to character-character fusion)
- can increase the amount of SP of the subject character
1.4 A Few Fusion Tips
------------------------
Here are a few tips fusion tips that weren't covered or explicit even in the
DoubleJump guide. Some should be obvious and some are quite trivial, but
they all can make a big difference considering how they come into almost
every item you work on, so just in case you don't know already:
(1) This game doesn't show you the Equip % of your items that often.
A quick way to check it is simply choose that item for fusion and choose
The item right next to it as material and you will be shown your % in
less than 1 second.
(2) You only need to fuse a material of EQUAL % to raise the subject by 5%.
(3) What directly follows (2) is that fusing 2 copies of the exact same item
will raise all Equip % by 5. A very good choice for first fusion for
every item. Of course, if you have a Combo one, it raises by 10.
But before you blow all your Combos on first fusions, here's a better idea,
for those who are trying to raise their Equip % by more than 10% (which I
think is all of you):
(4) Of course, if you fuse the exact same item to your subject a second time,
e.g. (Trolly + Trolly) + Trolly
It won't do anything as your subject already has a higher % all over; but
(Trolly + Trolly) + (Trolly + Trolly) = Trolly10%
Where Trolly#% means # extra on all stats
etc.
And so on, it will take 8 Trollies (or 7 extra in addition to the one you
want to keep) to raise it by 15%, 15 extra to raise it by 20%.
But since using a Combo will raise 10%,
e.g. (Trolly + Trolly) + (Combo Trolly + Trolly) = Trolly20%
using ONE Combo in the right place will cut the number you need by half!
(Your Trolly + Trolly) + (Trolly + Trolly) +
(Combo Trolly + Trolly) + (Trolly + Trolly)
=
(Your Trolly5% + Trolly5%) + (Combo Trolly5% + Trolly5%)
=
(Your Trolly10% + Combo Trolly10%)
=
Your Trolly20%
Saving you 8 Trollies in this case. If you had a 2nd Combo Trolly to
throw into this operation, you will save another 4 Trollies.
Wow! This looks even better once I typed it out than it sounded in my
head. I think I will start saving all my Combos now, except things like
Combo Dead Trees, of course, their Equip % are so flat you won't be
needing them for anything important. Fuse away to make room for more!
(5) If you go into a random dungeon, confine and take some item home and
leave the dungeon in the same level, you will not advance in the dungeon
at all. Combine this with the fact that you are allowed so many
random dungeons, you can simply preserve 6 random dungeons, 1 for each
common item for each of the stat you want to boost (trolley, Rock, etc)
to make sure you never run out of materials!
Better yet, there's no reason why any of these 6 shouldn't be high
levelled or deep (or both) to also provide you with all your title and
mana needs!
Just make a note somewhere for reference so you don't accidentally
lose these dungeons.
(6) One of the biggest downgrade in this game, compared to La Pucelle
Tactics and Disgaea, is that all your items appear on 1 list. Not only
is 120 a very small capacity and there's no way to store any more,
every sort also sorts all your items, making it very hard to keep track
of items. And you cannot rename your items. All of these make it very
tedious to keep track of the ingredient of your fusion plans.
You can, however,
i. Create some extra characters
ii. (Re)name your characters
iii. Equip those items to these characters
Since most of the time when you see an item, you will also be shown the
name of the character using it. A name like "SPDto95Starfish" can go a
long way to remind you what you wanted to do!
1.5 The Tables by Stat Type

That's enough nonsense out of me. Onward to what this guide is really about!

Due to the large volume of emails I receive, the best way to contact me
is to make a thread in one of the major gaming forums for my attention.
If you don't catch me on one site. Try another. For best results,
include something along the lines of "Zubbus is the God of FAQs!",
"Zubbus's stuff is the best!", etc, in the thread title.
