1.0 Author's Note
Thank you for reading my FAQ. I hope it
will help you get through the Dark Tournament
mode. Also don't expect a huge summary
for every episode. For most of the time you need
skill to beat episodes. In those cases nothing
I tell you can help. This is my first FAQ so it
may not be perfect. So give me a break okay?
I have given Neoseeker.com my permission
to use this FAQ in it's 100% original format
on their site.
2.0 Controls
2.1 Health
Don't overestimate the length of your health
bar. In this fighting game, your health bar
can drop to near zero with a single combo.
Yes I'm serious. So never simply alow your
opponet to hit you for any reason. If you
give your opponet one single opening you could
lose the match from one combo. Even
the weakest of combos can drain 25% of your health.
Beware.
2.2 Spirit Energy
Combos alone will not help you win a match.
You must use your spirit energy to help
drop your enemy's health to zero. Your
spirit energy is the row of blue bars beneath your
health bar. Always keep an eye on your energy
meter. You can use spirit moves by
following set commands you can find on
your pause menu. Simple as that.
2.3 Combo System
I'm not going to lie. The combo system in
this game is rather...bland. All of your
combos are listed on your pause screen.
And each character only has a few
combos to dish out. The commands
for these combos makes button
mashing impossible. But I guess thats a
good thing. You can't create your own
combos at all. What you see is what you
get. Butthis system at least simplifies
the fighting. however many, including
myself, think the combos are the
weak point in the game.
3.0 Episode 1: Introduction
Episode Difficulty: 0/10
Don't sweat it. You do nothing in this
episode but watch a storyline. So relax and enjoy
the movie.
4.0 Episode 2: Toguro Returns
Episode Difficulty: 10/10
No more messing around now. It's time for a
real fight. It is you, as Yusuke, versus the
unstoppable Toguro. If this is your first
time in battle than enjoy getting pounded into
the cement. Toguro will most likely beat
you in five seconds. No joke. Redo this
episode when you get better at the game.
Once Toguro beats you to a pulp you
will advance to the next episode.
Now if you intend to actually beat him
it will NOT be easy. You have no access
to spirit energy. Making this fight much
more difficult. At the beginning of the
fight immediatly crouch and guard.
This is very important. I'm even going
to refer to this as CAG since
you will be doing it so much. When you
crouch and guard you are invulnerable to all
attacks except ones from straight above you.
Also throws can still get you while CAGing.
Once the fight starts he will most likely just
stand there and flick "finger flip bullets" at you
until all his energy is gone. Once this happens
he will charge you like a bull. Don't panic
and continue CAGing. If he starts doing a
combo wait until he finishes and uppercut him.
There isn't much else I can say. After this point
he is very unpredictable. So use your skills
and combo him to death.
5.0 Episode 3: Hero In The Making
Episode Difficulty: 1/10
This is easy. Yusuke is back training with
Genkai and you must pass her training. Genkai
will fire Spirit Gun bullets at you while
shouting commands. They also appear on the screen.
Simple, jump, guard, or strafe when Genkai
tells you to to easily pass this episode.
6.0 Episode 4: Genkai's Fighting Technique
Episode Difficulty: 1/10
Another easy episode. Simply enter the
on-screen commands. You will be testing
all of Yusuke's attacks on the Masked Fighter.
So take this training seriously. You need to get
good at using all of these attacks quickly if you
want to stand a chance later.
7.0 Episode 5: Of Rocks And Spirit
Episode Difficulty: 1/10
This is the last of your training. And
man is it easy! Simply shoot your spirit gun at Genkai,
shattering rocks behind her when she
dodges. Thats all there is to it.
8.0 Episode 6: Walk The Plank
Episode Difficulty: 2/10
Finally, its time to get back to fighting. You
will be controlling the Masked Fighter in
this fight against three demons. This is
much easier than it sounds. The demons are defeated
in only one spirit gun shot so go ahead
and blast them. If they keep guarding to protect
themselves from the shot, simply sprint
up to them, and jump doing a spirit gun in mid air
directly above their heads. This will get by
their guard and kill them in the process. Now
onto the next episode.
9.0 Episode 7: Mass Slaughter
Episode Difficulty: 2/10
This time, its you as Kuwabara, Kurama, and
Hiei, versus three demons. You can tag in
your parter with the R3 button if you get low
in health. As Kuwabara, use your spirit sword.
Do jumping "sword get longer attacks" over
and over. With his spirit sword he can rip
through a demon or two all by himself
without tagging in your allies. When Hiei, use his
jumping kicks and his simple combos to
get used to him. Also use "the fist of the mortal
flame" when in trouble. As Kurama use your
jumping rose whip attack. Also transform into
Yoko Kurama and do his energy blast. If you
dont know how to do any of these attacks
simple pause the game and look at your move set.
This episode is easy, it shouldn't give you
too much trouble.
10. Episode 8: First Contact
Episode Difficulty: 5/10
If your new to this game this episode will probably
give you a little trouble. You control
Kuwabara, going one on one with the child
like Rinku. You must defeat him in two rounds
to advance to the next episode. Don't
under-estimate this kid, if you do he'll beat you
into
the ground just like Toguro did. When not
attacking always CAG to avoid his attacks. His
various yo-yo attacks can slowly take you apart if
your not careful. Use Kuwabara's shrapnel
sword if you get desperate, you might just hit him.
The "jumping sword get longer" attack
seems to work well against Rinku. Choose
your attacks carefuly and always anticipate his
yo-yos. If the kid starts to glow blue than use
your shrapnel sword on him fast! He is
recovering his health when glowing blue and
is wide open attack. The shrapnel sword is
perfect to attack his with when he is doing that.
Now beat the kid in the ground and let's
move on.
11. Episode 9: Soul Assassins
Episode Difficulty: 6/10
This episode is rather odd. It is you as Kurama
versus Roto. However a spirit is flying
around the ring and will attack you at times.
You know what this means? It means Roto
is being very defensive. Which means you must
be very offensive. Do your jumping rose
whip attacks and Yoko's energy blast. You will
have to attack him full force to defeat him
before that spirit kills you. You must beat
Roto in two rounds to put him away for good.
Roto will block your combos most of the
time so rip him apart with strategically used
spirit attacks. Don't be reckless and you will
beat him just fine.
12. Episode 10: Fight Fire With Fire
Episode Difficulty: 4/10
It is you as Hiei versus Zeru. You cannot harm
Zeru, AT ALL unless you use the Dragon of
the Darkness Flame on him. This will kill him
instantly and you only have to beat him once
with it. If he blocks your darkness flame it
will return and kill you instead. Don't be
intimidated by Zeru's fire. Simply guard to
deflect the attack harmlessly off of you. Try
firing the flame when he jumps in the air.
He usually takes a second to shoot fire at you
and that is all the time you need. If that doesn't
work just fire the flame the moment the
fight begins and you'll get him eventually.
13. Episode 11: Drunken Master
Episode Difficulty: 6/10
Finally a fight with no special rules to it. Its
you as Yusuke against Chu. All you have to do
to pass the episode is defeat Chu in two rounds.
Chu seems to middle in offense and
defense. So you do the same. Whenever the see
him doing his ogre killer, ogre boulder, or
ogre drink, blast him with you shotgun!
Those attacks are so slow you can use that attack
on him. Remember to always CAG
(crouch and guard). If your at a distance when he uses
his ogre moves fire a spirit gun double.
Besides that, use your favorite combos until Chu
falls.
14. Episode 12: Knife-Edge Death Match
Episode Difficulty: 1/10 (if you know the pattern)
Episode Difficulty: 8/10 (if you don't know the pattern)
Wait! Chu hasn't lost yet! Now to finish Chu
off for good you must beat him in a knife
edge death match. You can hit circle, square,
or triangle to hit him. Certain attacks only
work if Chu is doing a certain attack of his own.
That decides who's punch lands. But
instead of getting complicated, use this
pattern and you'll win without getting touched.
Hit circle, square, than triangle, than repeat until
Chu is done.
15. Episode 13: Need a Hand?
Episode Difficulty: 6/10
Hiei is severely injured from using the dragon
of the darkness flame from before. Now he
wants to prove to Kuwabara that he can still
fight. But the downside is you can't punch, or
use any spirit move that involves you hands at
all. All that means you must defeat Kuwabara
with kicks. Kuwabara puts up a surprisingly
good fight, he'll be coming at you full force.
Use rapid-fire kicks, sweeps, jumping kicks,
anything like that to slowly drain Kuwabara's
health. You must defeat Kuwabara in two
rounds to pass the episode.
16. Episode 14: Ambush
Episode Difficulty: 5/10
This time it is you controling Hiei and Kurama
in a tag team fight against two demons.
These demons also tend to put up a good fight
as well. You start the fight as Hiei. You can
punch with Hiei again but he is still rather weak.
You may want to tag in Kurama right
away and use him. As Kurama use any of your
favorite moves or Yoko Kurama's energy
blast if you must. Defeat the demons twice to advance.
17. Episode 15: The Evil Within
Episode Difficulty: 6/10
It's a massive three and three fight this time. You
control Yusuke, Kuwabara, and the
Masked Fighter against M1, M2, and M3. You
start the fight as Yusuke against M1. Don't
worry about his angel blades yet. He can only
throw them when he draws them out. That
lets you get prepared for him to throw them.
Simply guard or jump over his angel blades
and use a jumping spirit attack. When M2
comes in you can beat him easy if you know what
your doing. When M2 draws his spirit sword he is
completely defenseless. He can't block
any of your spirit attacks. So blast him with
the shotgun and shrapnel sword attacks to put
him down quickly. If there's anyone on that team
that will beat you it's M3. I suggest you
use the Masked Fighter on this guy. Whenever
the screen turns red use the spirit reflecting
blast to reflect his nasty projectiles back at him.
Also CAG and use the combo Mentors
Focus when you find an opening. Once you
master this combo you could beat anyone easily.
Beat the team in two rounds to advance.
18. Episode 16: Leviathan-Ambition Destroyed
Episode Difficulty: 7/10
This will be your hardest fight yet as you fight Itchigaki.
You have two fighters, Yusuke and
Kuwabara to drain his health bar just once to advance.
The best time to attack him is when
he extends his arms at you. When you get used to the
noise he makes before he does the
attack you'll dodge it every time. After you jump
in the air use your jumping spirit attack.
CAG when not attacking and use your uppercuts
and sweeps to eventually bring Itchigaki
down. I believe you only need to beat him a
single time to advance.
19. Episode 17: No Rest For Painting
Episode Difficulty: 6/10
Things are really starting to get harder as Kurama
takes on Gama one-on-one. There are no
special rules to this match except you only start
with half of a life bar. So if you ever let
Gama combo you, your pretty much beaten.
Keep a steady distance from Gama and you
won't have to worry about his spirit moves.
Except when he turns invisible. If he does this,
there are a number of things you can do. You
only need to hit him once to make him visible
again. You can throw a rose dart to find him,
use various whip attacks, or Yoko's energy
blast and death tree. Using all these attacks you
should find Gama eventually. When he is
visible you must be agressive since your life bar
is so small. Use the simple combos to wear
him down. Beat him twice to get this overwith.
20. Episode 18: Kurama's Stand
Episode Difficulty: 8/10
I gave this one a real high difficulty setting since
I heard there are alot of people who have
trouble with this episode. Its you controling
Kurama at full health versus Touya. The only
stipulation there is, is that you can't use any of
your spirit attacks. So you must beat him the
old fashioned way with combos. Your going to
have to be skillful to defeat Touya twice in
a row. Nothing I can tell you with make this
any easier. Well, maybe a little, you can try to
give Touya a ring out if your desperate. But thats
rather risky.
21. Episode 19: The Wind Master
Episode Difficulty: 5/10
Nothing special here, you control Yusuke against
Jin. Use the best of your skills to do rapid
fire punches and kicks to get quick hits in.
Mix it up with spirit gun attacks when he makes
a tornado fist. He is wide open when he does that.
Remember to always CAG when not
attacking, than counter with an uppercut. If you have
lots of trouble you can try ringing him
out. But you could be a real fighter and take him
head on. Beat him twice to advance. Use
the combos your best with to finish him quickly.
22. Episode 20: Spirit of Love
Episode Difficulty: 8/10
This is a very difficult episode. As Kuwabara you
must defeat Risho at only a quarter of
your health. I'm pretty sure you only have to beat him
once. But that is not easy. There are
two ways to take this fight, very offensive, or very
defensive. Either way this wont be easy.
You must hold out until Yukina arrives, than you can
recover your health and energy with
the power of love. If your being defensive Risho may
do the earthquake attack. This cant be
guarded against and will kill you instantly so jump in
the air and do the sword get longer
attack. He will also do his stalagmite attacks often.
When Risho does his armor of clay
moves, he is wide open to any attack. So don't waste
it! Do a shrapnel sword or your favorite
combo while he's wide open. Persevere and you will
beat him eventualy. If your being
offensive never stop attacking, if you do he'll
defeat you with a single combo.
23. Episode 21: Genkai's Last Trial
Episode Difficulty: N/A
How good you are at button mashing determines
how hard this is. Genkai will be shooting
you with her spirit gun over and over. Draining
your health and you must mash X to get your
health back. You must hold out until the time
limit is up. This can be really hard or really
easy.
24. Episode 22: Blades
Episode Difficulty: 5/10
This time you as Hiei must defeat Makintaro
in two out of three rounds. You can't use any
of your spirit attacks. Use simple combos and
CAG when not attacking and you should beat
Makintaro without too much trouble. Don't
forget to use Hiei's sword if punching him isn't
working for you. Makintaro always stays in
your face and attacks very aggresively, so CAG
carefully and counter attack.
25. Episode 23: Mightier Than The Sword
Episode Difficulty: 5/10
Again, your Hiei versus Kuro Momotaro. This
time you can use any spirit attack you want
but Hiei can't use his sword. Well you CAN
use his sword, but it wont do any damage. If you
always CAG he'll never be able to do good
damage to you. Use Hiei's kick out combo and
the fist of the mortal flame to wear him down.
Beat him twice to advance. Fight intelligently
and you'll beat him in no time.
26. Episode 24: Genkai's Strength
Episode Difficulty: 4/10
Now you control the Masked Fighter and must
defeat Shishi twice in three rounds. The trick
to make this really easy is to use the spirit reflection
blast. This will make his chorus of a
thousand skulls useless. And do even more damage
to him. Besides that use jumping spirit
gun attacks and the combo Mentor's Focus and this
episode will be done and overwith soon.
27. Episode 25: Suzuka's Challenge
Episode Difficulty: 5/10
Again, your the Masked Fighter, meaning Genkai
now versus Suzuka the clown. He puts up
a better fight than Shishi, but not by much.
Use spirit reflection blast to easily beat him.
Look out for his energy blast, it can't be
relected back at him and is almost impossible to see
coming. Be very defensive. If he uses any spirit
attack other than energy blast, then reflect it
back at him. CAG when not reflecting attacks.
When he decides to fight you head to head
CAG than when he finishes a combo, use
Mentor's Focus. Show that clown he doesn't
belong in this tournament twice and you will
pass this episode.
28. Episode 26: Death Of A Great Warrior
Episode Difficulty: 10/10
You control Genkai and you will face Toguro once
again. This is a one round fight. There is
very little chance you will win the first time.
You can't use a single engergy move. The key is
to CAG at ALL times, than when he gives you
an opening use Mentor's Focus. Even then
this isn't easy. You will most likely lose in a
single combo. But that's okay, your supposed
to lose this fight anyway.
29. Episode 27: Flowers Of Blood
Episode Difficulty: 7/10
This time as Kurama you must beat Karasu.
You can only harm Karasu in your Yoko form.
As soon as the fight begins take a step back and
stand there. Most likely Karasu will do the
chamber of ammunition move. This is when
he floats in the air putting out green electricity.
When this happens immediatly throw a seed of
the death plant. This will freeze him in mid
air. Now transform into Yoko and either blast
him, use the death tree, or combo him quickly
while he is still frozen. Now he can move again.
So take this fight normally again and lay
into him as Yoko. If Karasu keeps beating you
abuse the energy blast and you will eventually
win. CAG when not attacking and make sure he
never steals your energy or else his spirit
attacks will take you apart. Beat him twice to
end this episode.
30. Episode 28: Wielder Of The Dragon
Episode Difficulty: 6/10
As Hiei you must simply wear down Bui until
his health is around a quarter and the episode
will end. Thats all there is to it. When at a distance
guard against his ax throws until he gives
up. Then let him come to you. From here on stay
in his face and he wont throw his ax
anymore. Attack him with whatever you please,
including the darkness flame. But always
CAG to keep Bui from beating you like Toguro
has done quite a few times before.
31. Episode 29: Beneath The Armor
Episode Difficulty: 7/10
It's time for the real fight now. You as Hiei
must beat the unmasked Bui in two rounds.
Use the same fighting strategy that you did
before and this fight will be over soon. If your
feeling daring try to hit him with the darkness
flame for an easy win. Other than that use
your rapid fire attacks and the combos your
best with combined with CAGing.
32. Episode 30: The Shadow Of Elder Toguro
Episode Difficulty: 9/10
This is a very difficult fight. You are Kuwabara
and you must beat Elder Toguro. Elder's
special abilty for this fight is he can only be
damaged where he is glowing. On his mid,
upper, or lower body. Where you can harm
him will change often. To easily hit his weak spot
use the spirit sword than use the down and triangle
attack. This will hit his weak spot no
matter where it is. I assure you Elder won't just
let you attack his weak spot. He will be
using all his combos and abusing his finger spine
moves. CAG when your at a distance
from him. When he glows purple he is reviving his
health. So use the shrapnel sword to
finish him off! If all else fails throw him out
of the ring.
33. Episode 31: When Spirits Collide
Episode Difficulty: 10/10
This is it, you as Yusuke must actually defeat
Toguro to complete the game. Not just that,
when you drop Toguro's health to zero he
completely heals himself and grows stronger!
This means you must drop both of his health
bars in a single round. If you can do that just
once, you'll have finally beaten him! At the
beginning of the fight just wait, stand there.
When he starts shooting spirit attacks at you
leap in the air and shoot him with your spirit
gun. Repeat this until he starts to attack you
physically. When this happens CAG and do not
stop CAGing until he is completely done with
his combo. Then you can uppercut him or
leap in the air shooting him again. With some
practice and repeating the CAG then counter
attack technique you should beat him eventually.
Actually trying to hit a combo is suicide I
assure you. So take your time and slowly
tick away at his health and the big man will
eventuall fall.
34. A little trick
Ever wanted to use alternate clothing for any fighter?
Well now you can! Sort of, first select to make a
tag-team fight in skirmish mode. Next select the
fighter(s) you want player 1 to use. Now move over
the fighter you want to have alternate fighting
attire for BEFORE hitting "start" to select your
CPU opponets. When you hit "start," you
should now have to choose your CPU opponets.
Now move back over the character you hit start over.
He now has alternate colors for his attire.
