First, I would like to let you know that this is my first submission to
GameFaqs and I hope you find it informative.
Special thanks to Keoni4842 for suggesting that I write this.

This guide is relatively short, so I will omit a table of contents.

---------------------------.-----------------------.---------------------------
===========================|        ENEMIES        |===========================
---------------------------'-----------------------'---------------------------
       (The following descriptions are from http://www.coldfeargame.com)

-======================-
Mercenaries (unaffected)
-======================-
Hired to protect the mysterious oil rig, these former soldiers shoot on sight
and shoot to kill. But nothing they've seen or done has prepared them for what
they're about to face.

My Opinion:
These are the first enemies you will encounter in the game and the least of
your worries. They will go down with only one or two shots of your pistol. They
do not move around much and are slow and inaccurate at shooting. However, you
will usually encounter them in pairs so it is likely you will take a hit or
two.

-===================-
Exo-M 1.1 "ExoMutant"
-===================-
No longer human, these creatures are savage, mindless and hungry. Blessed with
inhuman strength and cursed with a hunger for flesh, they attack relentlessly.

My Opinion:
These will make up the vast majority of enemies you will face throughout the
game. They resemble zombies in appearance but behave much differently. Usually
wielding a bloody meat-cleaver or monkey-wrench, they will often surprise you
by jumping out from behind an object, crashing down from the ceiling, or
busting up through the floor. Sometimes they will make a mad dash at you, so
you do not have much time to start shooting. They will fall down after a few
shots to the body, but are quick to get back up until the brain is destroyed,
so always aim for the head. If they get too close to you, hitting B to perform
a melee attack will knock them back and give you a chance to take aim and fire.

-====================-
Exo-ME 2.0 "ExoMutant"
-====================-
Not all mutants are created equal. These are smarter, stronger, and faster than
their counterparts - making them that much more dangerous. The only way to
permanently get rid of them is to kill the parasite that resides in their
craniums.

My Opinion:
These are almost identical to the previous enemies, except for the exocel that
pops out after you blow their head off. They may be more aggressive, but I
usually did not realize they were the "upgraded" type until they were already
dead. Some of these will eventually wield an automatic weapon, but behave just
like the mercenaries, so they are not too difficult.

-=================-
Exo-CL 3.0 "ExoCel"
-=================-
Contaminator exocels live to spread their infection. Fast and agile, they seek
weak or dying prey to serve as hosts for their parasitic needs. If they can't
find a suitable victim, they'll be happy to make one.

My Opinion:
These creatures are small and can be hard to hit. They will move from the floor
to the ceiling and back and can attack from either position. They are not very
fast, but not very noticeable either. One shot will cause them to curl into a
ball, at which point a second bullet will dispatch them, but alternatively you
can walk over them and press B to stomp them into non-existence.

-=================-
Exo-N 3.5 "ExoNest"
-=================-
These shapeless monstrosities exist only to breed. Mother to the contaminators,
they send their children out into the world to seek new victims.

My Opinion:
These ugly things are always affixed to a wall close to the ceiling. Bullets
will not harm them and actually cause them to spit out more exocels. They can
only be killed with fire or explosions, but fortunately, they are often
conveniently located near a fuel barrel.

*Note: the following enemies are only encountered on the oilrig.

-==================-
Exo-S 5.2 "ExoShade"
-==================-
There are plenty of reasons to be afraid of the dark, and this creature's the
biggest one. Able to see perfectly in darkness, it hunts from the shadows and
attacks without mercy.

My Opinion:
These are the first of the new enemies you will face and are quite formidable
indeed. They remind me of the gargoyles from the movie "GhostBusters". Running
on all fours, they are extremely fast and agile, can climb on the wall or
ceiling, and take advantage of air-ducts to move around. They will usually make
a quick swipe at you and then retreat, only to appear from a different
direction ready to strike again. Sometimes they will jump on you, making you
fall onto your back, at which point you have to tap B quickly to fill up the
gauge on screen and kick them off. They are very resilient to bullets and hard
to hit, so it is easy to use all 150 rounds from your AK-47 and still be unable
to drop it. Keep an eye out for their eyes, which glow a faint green color and
leave trails in the dark.

-=================-
Exo-B 7.0 "ExoMass"
-=================-
Not all experiments go as planned. Deformed and mutated, this creature has
uncanny strength and an undying rage. Willing and able to punch through steel
doors to seek its prey, this creature will never abandon the hunt.

My Opinion:
These big bastards charge at you like a bull, are mostly bulletproof and
flameproof, and seem to loathe anything that moves. Their weak-spot is their
enlarged left arm, which can be a very difficult target to hit when it is
pummeling you into the ground. The shotgun is the best weapon to use, three or
four shots to the arm will put one down and even if you hit the body instead,
the creature will get stunned and step back for a second, giving you a second
chance.

-====================-
Exo-G 4.3 "ExoSpectre"
-====================-
What you can't see can hurt you.
Able to blend in perfectly with its surroundings, this escaped experiment has a
killer's instincts.

My Opinion:
These baddies are skinny and resemble Roswell-type aliens, but do not let this
fool you into thinking they are wimps. Shooting one will cause it to become
briefly visible, but look for things like steam and water that work better for
revealing their position. Like the ExoShades, they will hit you then quickly
retreat, usually to cover or somewhere behind you. Either way, the next time
you see it will probably be when it is slashing chunks of your flesh off your
body. It is easy to become paranoid and waste whole clips of ammo shooting at
nothing but shadows, so try to knock it down and finish it off before it has a
chance to get up and hide.

===========================|        WEAPONS        |===========================
---------------------------'-----------------------'---------------------------

All the weapons that reload do it extremely fast and you can switch between
them instantly.
You begin with just the pistol, but you will come across other weapons as you
progress through the game. Use the white/black buttons to cycle through them.
The d-pad works as a weapon selection shortcut that will assign guns to one of
four directions. To customize this, simply press and hold up, down, left, or
right on the d-pad to assign the currently equipped weapon to that direction.

-================-
.45 Caliber Pistol
-================-
Aiming Aides: Flashlight + Lasersight
Clip Size: 7
Max Ammo: 42
You start out with this and will probably always have it equipped because the
flashlight is your friend. One to two shots will put down a mercenary,
depending where you hit them. It has a slow rate of fire, so it is not the
ideal weapon to use when facing multiple foes.
Rate of Fire: 7 rounds in 3.98s (app. 1.76 shots per second).

-===-
AK-47
-===-
Aiming Aides: Lasersight
Clip Size: 30
Max Ammo: 150
This weapon is very useful because of the large clip size and ammo capacity. It
is also more powerful than the pistol. The laser enables you to achieve
headshots from quite a good distance. The only drawback is that it leaves you
in the dark ;). 30 rds in 3.37 s. (534 rpm)
Rate of Fire: 30 rounds in 3.37s (app. 9 shots per second)

-======-
Speargun
-======-
Aiming Aides: Lasersight
Clip Size: 1
Max Ammo:  3
Not much of an attack weapon, instead the projectile will attract and distract
any monsters within a certain radius of where it lands. The spear emits a green
vapor that the monsters find irresistible, but its effects do not last very
long. It is best to use when there are more than three enemies. Try to get it
close to an environmental hazard like a fire extinguisher or fuel barrel to
kill multiple birds with one stone.

-=====-
Shotgun
-=====-
Aiming Aides: None
Clip Size: 7
Max Ammo: 21
This is my favorite weapon in the game. Extremely powerful, it will blow back
almost every enemy a good distance, often putting them on their back. One shot
can destroy multiple exocels that are near each other. One shot will also take
off an exomutant's head; just aim up a little in the over-the-shoulder view.
However, there is not much ammunition so make every shot count, wait for
enemies to get close before unleashing a fury of buckshot. Unlike most other
games that reload a shotgun one shell at a time, this one loads seven at once,
so it is a very formidable weapon.
Rate of Fire: 7 shells in 9.12s (app. 0.76 shots per second).

*Note: The following weapons are only found on the oil platform.

-==================-
M39 Grenade Launcher
-==================-
Aiming Aides: None
Clip Size: 5
Max Ammo:  5
This weapon is not as useful as one would think. The grenade does not explode
on impact and is not very powerful, so to be effective your timing and distance
need to be perfect. It is easy to overshoot, so aim short, but not so close
that the blast will injure you.

-===========-
Flame Thrower
-===========-
Aiming Aides: None
Clip Size: N/A
Max Ammo:  N/A
This weapon has a decent range, although the effect is not instantaneous, so
they might get a hit on you before they burst into flaming flesh. The ammo
consists of fuel canisters, which provide for thirty seconds of continuous
fire.

-================-
MP5 Submachine gun
-================-
Aiming Aides: Flashlight + Lasersight
Clip Size: 25
Max Ammo: 125
This gun is not as powerful as the AK and has a higher rate of fire, as well as
a smaller clip size and ammo capacity, so it is very easy to run out of bullets
mid fight. However, the flashlight makes this a nice alternative to the pistol.
Notice how the beams have a slightly different color and radius, good attention
to detail by the developers.
Rate of Fire: 25 rounds in 2.28s (app. 11 shots per second).
