"Five years ago Carl Johnson escaped from the
pressures of life in Los Santos,
San Andreas... a city tearing itself apart with gang trouble,
drugs and corruption.
Where filmstars and millionaires do their best to avoid the
dealers and gangbangers.
Now, it's the early 90s.
Carl's got to go home.
His mother has been murdered,
his family has fallen apart and his childhood friends
are all heading towards disaster.
On his return to the neighborhood,
a couple of corrupt cops frame him for
homicide. CJ is forced on a journey that takes him
across the entire state of San Andreas, to save his family and
to take control of the streets."

1: Introduction --------------------------------------------------------------
==============================================================================
Welcome to my guide for Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas for the Playstation 2.
I have always wanted to write a guide for a Grand Theft Auto game, so thank
you all for coming to witness a truely wonderful project. I hope this guide to
be useful, readable and most importantly enjoyable. But you must take in that
this is a REALLY long and big game (150 hours minimum) and this will be a huge
guide, so expect to see a lot of mistakes as a guide this big is very hard to
keep control of.
As most of you all well know, it takes quite a lot of time for games to turn
into classics. Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas is different; this game was an
instant classic. We all expected this to be the game of the next two years,
and the more Rockstar released information on the game, the better it got. The
freedom you got in the previous two GTA games is nothing to what is in this
game. You thought Vice City was the best... you better think twice.
I am Dominic Smyth, and I am 14 years old and am a very busy person. I am
writing this guide out of my love for writing and San Andreas. Do not
frustrate me by sending me stupid Emails, do not ask me first (I'm sure there
are other people who want to help you) and don't steal this guide. If I'm
lucky, everyday I get to spend an hour on this guide and an hour on San
Andreas so that is why this guide is moving very slowly. I could do without
the questions regarding help, but please feel free to send me tips and things
like that.
After that intro, I am sure you know how I feel about this game. In my
opinion, this is, and will be, the greatest Playstation 2 game... EVER! Thank
you.
******************************************************************************
IMPORTANT NOTE! PLEASE READ!
I started this guide as soon as it came out in Europe. Therefore, at least in
the early versions of the guide, most of it will be a bit rushed. Because of
this, not only will there be lack of detail, but there will be a huge amount
of typos. Also this guide tends to be very detailed to San Andreas, so there
will also be a lot of spoilers in this guide. If you find any typos, mistakes,
or spoilers that I haven't warned you about, Email me at:

SPOILER WARNING! PLEASE READ!:
This guide tends to be very detailed to San Andreas. Therefore, there will
be a lot of spoilers in this guide. I recommend using your browser's find
function (Ctrl+F) and typing in what part of the game you need help with.
Thank you.

2: Version History -----------------------------------------------------------
==============================================================================
Date format: mm/dd/yy
Version 0.1 (11/1-6/04)
-----------------------
Very first version of the guide. After just playing hours and hours of San
Andreas and reaching San Fierro, I decided it was time to start the guide. I
thought I might complete the game before I start the guide, but that just
didn't work out. This version includes a lot of the basics and stuff like that
but the next version should have some of the missions in it. I have not yet
submitted to GameFAQs.
Version 0.3 (11/7-14/04)
------------------------
Put in some missions walkthroughs and made a rough layout of what the table of
contents will look like when the guide is complete. This guide is still under
VERY HEAVY CONSTRUCTION so I really could do without the Emails right now.
Version 0.4 (11/21/04)
----------------------
Added a contribution and added all missions up to San Fierro. My GTA: San
Andreas disk is badly scratched and it won't work so the guide is going to be
moving very slowly for now until I get a new disk. The next update will
probably be in quite a while unless I get a new disk soon. Added different
parts to different sections.
Version 0.5 (12/05/04)
----------------------
Finally got a new disk which cost a LOT of money... and I am quite annoyed
that I spent another £30 just to finish off this guide. Oh well, I'm here now
to finish the guide as it seems quite a lot of people enjoyed reading it :D.
Didn't really do much for this update, just completed first five missions of
San Fierro and I just wanted to tell you guys that I'm still around and
totally dedicated to finishing this guide!
Version 0.5 (12/25/04)
----------------------
Maybe not as dedicated as I might have stated above. I started playing The
Getawat: Black Monday and I've been addicted to that game and I just haven't
had the motivation to complete this guide. Anyhoo, this version includes all
the San Fierro missions and some of the Los Santos street races.
Version 0.6 (01/08/05)
----------------------
Sorry people, I've been on holiday over christmas, and it took me a while to
work out the new GameFAQs registration system (lol). Anyway, I've lost my
motivation for this game almost completely, so I think I'll FAQ for POP:
Warrior Within after I do the story missions for SA, then maybe I will finish
off this guide a bit later than expected. I am sorry about this, but I will
try and fit in as much as I can to this guide for the next update, which
should be by next week.
Version 0.7 (01/29/05)
----------------------
I am terribly sorry for this really long update, but I've just been really
busy lately with my social life and other stuff. Anyway, I haven't been able
to write as much as I hoped but now I have got my motivation back to complete
this guide. Expect all the main story mission walkthroughs up by the next
update.
Version 0.8 (02/26/05)
----------------------
Sorry dudes, my computer got infected with LOADS of viruses then my broadband
stopped working so I haven't been able to submit this version as soon as i
hoped to. This version includes every mission up to 'Dam and Blast' for the
Four Dragons Casino. I hope the next version to have all of the story missions
in it, but i am not promising anything.
Version 1.0 (04/11/05)
----------------------
Sorry people I couldn't get any missions done. All I managed for this update
was R Carr's wonderful tag location guide. I've been very busy lately so I
haven't even had time to get in the computer. Again, the next update will be
in a while, life's moving quickly right now.
Version 1.1 (04/15/05)
----------------------
I completed the gang section and started work on the weapon section and
edited most of the missions. Next version should include some more mission
walkthroughs. Sorry again for the huge delay, but I think I'm back on track
to complete this guide now.
Version 1.2 (04/25/05)
----------------------
All the street races and finally all of the main storyline missions are
complete. It took a lot of work but now I can relax and enjoy finishing off
the guide. I'm looking to have this guide at at least 500kb when it's
complete, so I got a long way to go.

Basic Controls (explained): (Coming soon!)
---------------------------------
| CONTROLS: ON FOOT |
---------------------------------
Triangle (enter vehicle):
This is easy. To steal a vehicle, just stand by it and press triangle. CJ will
usually do a cool move and get in. If you pressed triangle by accident or CJ
got in the wrong car, just move the left analog stick around and CJ won't get
in. Just watch out for those vigilante pedestrians who will chase after the
vehicle you stole off them!
Triangle (activate mini game):
Mini games can be found throught San Andreas. There is one in your house, but
they can be found in bars or in shops. If you find one, press triangle to
start the game.
Triangle (secondary attack):
You can only unlock the secondary attack once you have challenged the boxer in
the gym in Ganton and beat him. To use it, just target an oppoenent and press
or tap triangle for a more powerful and accurate attack. You can unlock more
moves the more you play the game.
Triangle (pick up object):
If you find an object other than a weapon on the floor, just press triangle
to pick it up.
Circle (attack/fire weapon):
If you have a gun in your hand, you can press circle to fire your gun. Some
guns will only allow you to shoot if you aim first, but with most guns you can
shoot just by pressing circle. Circle is also the attack button, so you can
fight with any melee weapon with circle. For more accuracy with your gun,
always aim with R1 before youi fire.
X Button (Hold) (Run):
If you have a one-handed weapon such as a pistol or a knife, hold X and you
will sprint, but you won't sprint for long if you don't have a lot of stamina.
You can't sprint with big guns like Shotguns and Flame-throwers.
X Button (Tap) Sprint):
Like the one above, but tapping X will make you run faster and you will get
tired more quickly.
Square (jump/climb/block):
Like the other GTAs, you can jump by pressing square. But a new feature in San
Andreas is the ability to climb walls/fences. Stand by a wall or a fence and
if it is in CJ's reach, he will jump up and hang on to it, press square again
and CJ will climb the wall. You can also use square to block punches when you
are fighting, but you have to be targetting the opponent in order to block.
L2 Button (cycle weapon left):
Does exactly what it says on the tin.
L1 Button (centre the camera/view stats/fire weapon):
If you are wondering what your stats are like, press and hold L1 to view the
important and general stats. But you can also view your whole list of stats on
the pause menu. You can also use L1 to fire your weapon when you are
targetting someone, this is probably best used for drive-by's. L1 also puts
the camera right behind CJ.
R2 Button (cycle weapon right):
Does exactly what it says on the tin.
R1 Button (Target):
You can target someone else by holding R1. You can then attack by pressing
circle.
L3 Button (crouch):
Yes, like Vice City you can crouch, but this time you can move while you're
crouching. Crouching is best used for stealth like when you're robbing houses.
Select Button (camera modes):
You can change the camera angle by pressing the select button.
Start Button (pause Menu):
You can view the map, load games, look at your photos and look at your stats
on the pause menu.
R3 Button (look behind):
While you are running or walking, you can look at what's behind you by
pressing the R3 button.
Up Button (gang active mode):
Target one of your gang members then press up and you can recruit him to your
gang/group. The more respect you have the more gang members you can recruit to
your group.
Down Button (gang passive mode):
Target one of your gang members then press down and you can recruit him to
your gang/group. The more respect you have the more gang members you can
recruit to your group.
Right Button (talk positive response):
When someone is talking to you, whether it be on a mission or on the streets,
press right to reply positively.
Left Button (talk negative response):
When someone is talking to you, whether it be on a mission or on the streets,
press left to reply negatevely.
Right analog stick (camera movement):
move the camera around with the right analog stick. This can help a lot on
missions and will improve your accuracy.
Left analog stick (character movement):
Move CJ around with the left analog stick.
---------------------------------
| CONTROLS: BICYCLE |
---------------------------------
X Button (hold) (pedal):
You will pedal really slowly if you just hold X while you're on a bike.
X Button (tap) (pedal faster (sprint)):
The faster you tap X, the faster your bike will go. You can pedal faster for
longer if you have more stamina. You don't really go that fast even if you
sprint while on a bike, but tapping X on a bike is much better than just
holding it.
L1 Button (bunnyhop):
The more cycle skill you have, the higher you can bunnyhop. Hold down L1, then
release it to jump. I use this a lot when I'm on a bicycle to jump over cars.
L2 Button (hold & release):
The more cycle skill you have, the higher you can bunnyhop. Hold down L1, then
release it to jump. I use this a lot when I'm on a bicycle to jump over cars.

circle. You can also perform a drive-by if you have a sub-machine gun by
holding R2 or L2 and pressing circle. If your car has a nitrous you can
trigger it with circle.
X Button (accelerate):
Hold X down to accelerate. Simple.
Square (brake/reverse):
To stop your car while it's moving, hold square. Hold square while the car is
still to reverse.
L2 Button (look left):
To change the camera angle so you are looking at the left side of the road
hold down L2. Best used for drive-by's.
R2 Button (look right):
To change the camera angle so you are looking at the right side of the road

them to change back to the normal camera mode.
L1 Button (vehicle weapon/nitrous):
Some vehicles have their own weapons, and if so you can fire them by pressing
L1. You can also perform a drive-by if you have a sub-machine gun by
holding R2 or L2 and holding L1. If your car has a nitrous you can trigger it
with circle, as well as L1.
R1 Button (hand brake):
For a more powerful brake than just holding square, hold down R1. You can
perform skids with R1 at sharp turns always.
Left Analog Stick (vehicle sterring/camera):
When your vehicle is moving, use the left analog stick to control the car.
Holding up or down will also move the camera around so you can see down hills
and change the camera so it suits you.

If you get in a Taxi or any other emergency vehicle, you can trigger the 'odd
job missions' with R3. You can also turn off these missions with R3.
Right Analog Stick (turret control):
If you are in a vehicle that has a turret on it (i.e fire engine or tank) you
can move it around with the right analog stick. You cannot aim the turret
though, so you just have to judge where it's going by sight.
Right Analog Stick (manual camera):
Move the camera around with the right analog stick.
Right Analog Stick (change cinematic camera):
If you change the camera to cinematic view, you can go through the cinematic
views by moving the right analog stick right or left.

4: Different Ways of Transport -----------------------------------------------
==============================================================================
In San Andreas, you will find different ways to get around the city. It may be
by car, by foot, by bike or even by train! Whatever suits your needs...
By Car
------
Probably the most popular choice of transport. Cars can be found all around
the huge state of San Andreas. You can drive them, you can trash them, you can
use them as punch-bags... let's stick with driving them. San Andreas is a
state packed with cars, from sport coupes to tractors, to four-door luxery's
to even tanks! Whatever you choose, I'm sure you will have fun driving cars.
By Foot
-------
Want to go for a stroll along the beach? Or don't want to crush your suit
getting into a low sportscar? Press and hold X button to run faster - but
watch the sweat on that suit. Fitness is a fad, and though you may not be into
a full-on workout tape with legwarmers, a bit of training not only keeps you
slim but also builds your stamina. (Taken from Vice City manual)
You might find yourself on a bike in the countryside one moment, then you see
something cool and lose your bike the next. You will find yourself on foot in
the middle of nowhere quite often, but whatever you do to lose your vehicle,
walking around on foot is the best way to get around and to kep fit.
By Motorbike
------------
They made it's first appearence in Vice City, but now they are back... with
attitude. The same bikes from Vice City are back but there is a wider list of
motorbikes this time round. You will have fun riding around on the bikes and
if you spend a lot of time on them, your bike skill upgrades and when it fills
you will hardly ever fall off your bike, but we're only getting started...
By Bicycle
----------
Oh yeah! Now not only can we have fun falling off our dirt bikes in the
desert, now we can enjoy the wonderful sound of bicycles. BMX's are very
common in the city, but if your looking to take a trip on Mount Chilliad,
you're better off with a Mountain Bike. Whichever bike you decide to cruise
in, I'm sure you will have a lot of fun riding around on one of these.
By Boat
-------
Yes, they are back from the last two GTA's. The boats in San Andreas are very
similar to the ones in Vice City and GTA 3, so there isn't much of a surprise
here. But now there is a wider range of boats, so you can now enjoy the feel
of wind on an even faster speed boat!
By Helicopter
-------------
Due to the size of San Andreas, the helicopters play a big part of getting
around the state. And now for my favourite part.... the hunter frmm Vice City
is back. Now I can enjoy shooting rockets at the damn San Andreas police
department!
By Plane
--------
You can now fly planes! From full-winged Dodo's to jets San Andreas
feature a wide choice of planes. You have to buy the Airstrip Asset in the
Desert to learn how to fly a plane, and it can be very frustrating learning
how to control a plane. Oh, and remember that when you're really high up in
the air you can jump out of the plane with a parachue and have fun falling
through the sky.
By Train
--------
Yes, now you can finally not only get on the back of a train, but drive them.
The speed you can create while driving a plane is really quite amazing. But
be careful not to go too fast, or you can bail off the tracks.
==================\___________________________________________________________
5: Tips/strategies -----------------------------------------------------------
==============================================================================
I will split this section into different sections so you can easily find what
you need help with without skipping through paragraphs of rubbish. If I missed
anything, please get in contact with me.
Swimming
--------
- Swimming is a new feature in SA that was never in any of the previous GTA
games. It is not hard to swim in this game, but at times if you don't have
enough stamina you will just drop down and drown. Push the left analogue
stick in the direction you want to go in to move, and hold down X if you
want to go faster. You can also tap X to go really fast but you do get tired
after a short while. You can also dive under water. Just press circle to
dive down, then tap X to swim underwater. But swimming underwater isn't that
simple. You need to pay attention to your breath metre that appears by your
health metre if you want to stay alive. It will go down quickly and when it
runs out you go out of breath, so just swim towards the surface to catch
your breath again.
Riding Bikes
------------
- In Vice City there were motorbikes, but never in a GTA game has there been a
bicycle. SA's bicycles range from BMX's to Mountain bikes, but what is the
point of just having the bicycles without the motorbikes? All of the bikes
from Vice City are back, and SA also introduces us to some new motorbikes as
well. I guess you all played Vice City, so I'm sure you all know how the
motorbike gameplay works, so I won't bother explaining how to ride
motorbikes.
- The hard thing getting used to is riding the bicylcles. You can just hold X
on the pedal bike to go at quite a slow speed, but tap X really fast and CJ
will lift his bum off the seat and pedal very quickly. You can also perform
tricks on bicycles, from bunney-hopping to wheelies, but the more you
practice on the bike, the better you get at controlling it. If you get
really familiar with the bicyles, you will hardly ever fall off of your bike
which can be very pleasing at times.
Driving
-------
- No surprise here people, the cars are back from the other games. I am almost
positive that you all know how to drive cars, so again I won't bother
explaining. Not much tips for this section I'm afraid, but if anyone has
any, please tell me.
Shooting
--------
- San Andreas has a new shooting system which allows you to see how much
health an enemy has and to switch targets quickly without letting go of aim.
When you are shooting at someone or something, their colour will go from
light to dark. If a person has a green target, they have full health, and
red means that they are nearly dead; all the other colours are obvious.
Also, the best way to shoot is to hold R1 and when one person is dead,
press R2 to aim at the next target on your right, and L2 for the next target
on your left. This can be a very helpful and useful technique when you are
shooting against a very large group.
Gangs
-----
(There maybe some spoilers in this section)
- The gangs of San Andreas are not friendly people, and you need to know how
to protect yourself from them. The Ballas (dressed in purple) are your
rival gang, and if you are caught in their territory they will try their
very best to kill you. There are many other gangs in the game, but they all
have the same routine of going around in groups smoking and causing trouble
with the police. If a gang starts shooting at you, the police usually shoot
back at the gang, but if you shoot back while the police are there they will
just go for you.
- You gain respect throughout the game by completing missions. You need a lot
of respect in the game to survive, and only because the more respect you
have, the more men you can use as bodyguards. You learn this trick later on
in Los Santos, but I think you can use it whenever you want. When you have
more than a little of respect, go up to a Grove Street member (someone
dressed in greeen) and target them and press up on the D-pad. They will
follow you around and shoot anyone you lock on to, and will do drive-by's
when you pass other gang members in the car.
- If you are caught alone in gang territory, the gang won't chase you and hunt
you down immediately, they will try and talk to you sometimes. You can use
the left and right buttons to reply positively or negatively, or you can
just run away. Fighting the gang would be the worse thing to do if you have
little muscle, so only really fight if you have a lot of muscle.
- You can also take over Ballos and Vagos territory when you start working for
Sweet again. All over the map there are different colours (you won't know
what I'm on about if you've just strated the game), but green (Grove
Street), purple (Ballas) and yellow (Vagos) are the main territories. Your
gang owns the green part of the map, and you can take over new territories
by entering the territory and shooting that gang. You will get a message on
the screen when you have taken over that part of the map, and a money icon
(like the one in Vice City) will appear outside your house.
Police
------
- Like other crime-simulators like GTA, the police play a very big part of
the game. But, if you played Vice City or GTA 3, you might find it a lot
harder to escape the police. This time in San Andreas, the police are a lot
more clever and don't just ram their cars like little children. Rockstar
have improved the AI system so the police have their own tactics to hunt you
down. I haven't seen a huge difference yet, but I have noticed that the
police don't drive like monkeys.
- For example, the police on bikes sometimes jump on top of your car and punch
or shoot through your wind-screen, and sometimes they hang on to the back of
your car to slow you down. You can shake them off by shooting them or just
by taking sharp turns and hitting walls etc.
- The police now have different forms of transport. They do still travel in
cars and helicopters, but they also have police motorbikes and police
4x4's. Also, the police in the city have different outfits than those in the
countryside. I just found this a really cool feature and I just wanted to
share it...
Stats (keeping fit)
-------------------
- This is a new and really cool feature that San Andreas includes. You now
have your own stats that you control. You can now build up muscle, stamina,
sex appeal, weapon skill, respect, fat, cycle/bike/car/boat/plane skill,
gang progress, progress with Denise and a few others that I've probably
forgot to mention. This is a really cool thing but you don't really need to
take notice of it if you don't want to.
- Muscle and stamina can all be upgraded at any gym. The weights prove to be
very useful if you want a lot of muscle, and the running machine and cycling
machine both improve your stamina. You can also challenge the boxer to a
quick round but only if you have enough muscle. If you beat him the first
time around, he will give you three new skills: Running Attack, Ground
Attack and a Combo Attack. All of these moves can be done by holding R1 and
pressing triangle. But, let me explain a bit more about your muscle. If you
just stand around all day or drive cars all the time, your muscle stats will
decrease, but if you work out quite often, your muscle stats will increas or
stay at the top. Try and keep your muscle stats high for your punches to
inflict more power. Your stamina can increase if you cycle often or if you
sprint, but it will decrease if you eat too much fat or don't exercise.
- You can also get fat if you eat too much fast food and if you don't get
enough exercise, but you don't really have to take any notice at all to your
fat. I don't think it damages your health if you are really skinny, but it
does if you get really over-weight. If you do end up turning o-beast, you
can go to the gym and work out to get buff again!
- Respect can be earned by completing missions, dressing appropriately and
treating people nicely. Respect plays a big part because the more respect
you have, the more Grove streets you can have in your group (like I
mentioned earlier in the gang section). I am still a little confused about
the Sex Appeal stats, but I think it goes up if you pick up prostitutes,
dress nicely and drive cool cars it goes up, but I'm still trying to work
out what reward you get for having max Sex Appeal.
- Having high stats for your weapon skills can be very helpful in the game.
The higher it is, the better accuracy you have and the more power your gun
produces. cycle/bike/driving/boat/plane skills aren't as important or vital
as the other stats. The higher cycle/bike skills you have, the less chance
you have of falling off your bike. Boat/plane/driving skills just make you
go faster if you have high stats, and you can also handle each vehicle
better the more stats you have.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Submitted by Aziz Strife 7777:
When still in Los Santos, and you really want to raise respect, there
is one very effective method, and can take as little as 2 hours to max
out your respect and be able to recruit 7 gang members, What you must
do is quite simple, stock up on the AK - 47; make sure you have a good
amount of bullets. After you have enough bullets, go to the LSPD
headquarters (Police station) and park a fast car or bike outside.
Head down to the jail cells, where one of them contain armor. Take the
armor, then scroll to get your AK-47. You will now get 2 stars for
taking out the weapon. Now, while in the cell, position yourself to
around the left side in the middle of the cell, and manually AIM your
AK-47. Police will come one after another, and position the gun to be
able to get a head shot.
The Police AI for some reason stops and does not shoot at you for the
most part, so simply blow off their heads. Police will just keep
coming and coming, so continue one after another aiming and shooting
their heads. Eventually with persistence, you would have maxed out
your respect! When you are happy with the amount of respect you have
earned, or you have been shot at one too many times, sprint out the
building, ignoring the shooting cops, and enter the vehichle that you
parked before hand. Quickly drive to the pay and spray that is near by
to lose the police, then save the game as a heavily respected CJ! You
can either do this all at once, or bit by bit, either way, it will
only take an hour or two to gain a good chunk or respect using this
handy method.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Barbers and Tattoo Parlor
------------------------
- You can get your haircut in San Andreas if you want to impress the ladies,
you want to look stupid or you are just bored. You can also get your own
tattoos if you want to look really cool, but you don't get anything by
visiting these places. They both cost quite a lot of money so don't waste
your money on this.
- Like Vice City you can also change your clothes, but the clothing system is
very different in San Andreas. In this game, you can choose clothes for your
torso, legs, feet, neck and wrist and your face/head. Again, clothing CJ
does cost quite a lot of money, so don't waste silly amounts of money on
your clothes. Also, when you buy and item of clothes, you keep them in your
wardrobe at your house so you can wear whatever you have purchased whenever
you are at the Johnson's house.
(More to be added the more I play the game)

7: FAQ -----------------------------------------------------------------------
==============================================================================
This section is made to answer all of the most frequently asked questions for
San Andreas before you ask me them yourself via Email. Pleasepleaseplease read
this section before you send me an Email, as my brain does not take kindly to
stupid questions....
==============================================================================
Q: It says on the case that the game is 1-2 players, how do I play 2-player
mode?
A: Yes, this game is two player, and I think that two player is the best new
feature yet. You cannot select two player whenever you want, but around the
cities are these little red icons with two stick-men on it; walk into one to
trigger two player mode, but you can only find two player icons when you have
two analog control sticks plugged in to your PS2.
I have found two two player icons so far in the game. I found one just outside
Denise's house (your girlfriend later on in the game) and another one in a car
park in San Fierro (didn't take directions down). But, I also played two
player pool against my friend (I won!). To play pool, enter the "Ten Green
Bottles" bar just down the road from Grove Street, and challenge the man by
the pool table to a game of pool. Press start on the second control stick to
start your game.
==============================================================================
Q: I also heard that you can control your own gang. How can I do this?
A: You need a bit of respect to do this, but you can do it early on in the
game anyway. Just find a Grove st. member and target him and press up or down
on the D-pad. The more respect you have, the more members you can recruit to
your gang.
==============================================================================
Q: How do I get fat?
A: Don't run, cycle or swim and just drive cars. This is the perfect way to
get fat. Fast food also increases your fat a lot, but my character has never
been fat so I don't know what difference it makes towards your health.
==============================================================================
Q: I was just messing around in the burger shot place but now I'm really fat.
How do I get buff again?
A: Head over to the gym in Ganton, Los Santos. work out on the weights and on
the running machines often to get your CJ back into shape.
==============================================================================
Q: When can I take over gang territory?
A: When you complete the mission "Doberman" for Sweet. Then gang warfare is
not open until you complete Las Venturas again.
==============================================================================
Q: Can I have gang warfare with any gangs other than the Vagos and Ballas?
A: No, unfortunately. They are the only two gangs in the whole game that you
can have gang warfare with.
==============================================================================
Q: Vice City and GTA 3 had hidden packages, where are they in SA?
A: Rockstar decided that San Andreas is just too big to put hidden packages in
it, so they made a few things almost the same. There are 100 tags to spray
(play "Tagging up Turf" mission) in Los Santos, 50 Oysters in the sea, 50
snapshots in San Fierro and 50 horseshoes in Las Venturas. Check the in-depth
guides to find locations for these, or you can check the next updates to my
guide that should include the locations.
==============================================================================
Q: Where can I find the driving/boat/plane school?
A: If I haven't covered it in the guide yet, I have no idea where to find them
or how to unlock them or even what they are! So stop with the stupid
questions!
==============================================================================
Q: How do I communicate with random people on the street?
A: If a pedestrian makes a remark about you on the street, press the right
button to reply positively and maybe start a conversation, or press left to
reply negatevely and start a fight. Quite a cool feature.
==============================================================================
Q: I swam into Las Venturas, but the I got a four star wanted level and the
police were trying to kill me! Why is this?
A: Remember quite early on in the game, when you got that phonecall from
Tenpenny, saying that leaving the city would be your worst mistake? Well, he
was being serious. Swimming into another city that you haven't unlocked yet
will give you a four star wanted level, and it is almost impossible to escape
the cops from there.
==============================================================================
Q: I lost my camera/spray-can, where can I retrieve them?
A: In the bedroom upstairs in your house in Ganton.
==============================================================================
Q: I am stuck on a mission that you haven't covered in your guide. Please help
me!
A: NO! NO! A thousand times, NO! This guide is under heavy construction and
needs a LOT of work before it is complete. If you really need help with a
mission later on in the game, go read some of the other FAQs at GameFAQs,
there are loads!
If you ask me a question about a mission I haven't covered yet, I will
perminately block your Email so you will never be able to Email me again. I'm
serious, I'm getting really fed up of this.
==============================================================================
Q: I have a tip, can I give it to you?
A: Sure, I love tips. However, if it is a tip on something I haven't covered
yet, It'll be much appreciated if you held your submission until I update my
guide again.
==============================================================================
Q: How often will you update your guide?
A: For the early versions of the guide, I am hoping to get a 50KB+ update
every week. I don't want to add tiny little bits for every version, because
the guide will get very confusing. Once a week at the latest I'd say, at
least for the early versions of the guide, but when the guide is complete, I
won't update it a lot.
Edit: 50KB+ is too much for me right now, but I honestly can't tell you how
often this guide will be updated. Hopefully, the guide will be updated
every couple of days until the guide is complete, and that's if I'm
lucky.
==============================================================================
Q: What are the numbers next to some of the missions in your walkthrough?
A: You will probably see that in the main walkthrough section of this guide
there will be a number beside some of the titles to some missions. Those
numbers are the times that you can start a mission. e.g in the "Home
Invasion" mission for Ryder, it will say: 12B.1: Home Invasion (12:00 -
20:00). This means that you can only start the mission between 12:00 and
20:00 because if you started the mission anytime in the day the guy would be
awake during the mission.
==============================================================================
More FAQs to come through the more I play the game.

8: Characters ----------------------------------------------------------------
==============================================================================
Carl "CJ" Johnson
-----------------
Carl Johnson, known as CJ by most people, is the main character and the
character you control throught the game. He left the streets of Los Santos 5
years ago to escape the pressures and the troubles to live in Liberty City,
but now his mother has been murdered he's headed back to Grove Street. When
he arrives back at Grove Street, he is framed for homicide by two crooked cops
and he is not greeted kindly by his older brother, Sweet, who is the head of
Grove Street Families.
Sean "Sweet" Johnson
--------------------
CJ's brother. He does not welcome CJ very nicely as he blames CJ for the death
of their mother. However, Sweet alongside CJ is very loyal to Grove Street,
and has no choice but to be nice to CJ and put Grove Street back on the map!
Melvin "Big Smoke" Harris
-------------------------
A loyal member to the Grove Street Families. Big Smoke enjoys eating at fast
food restaurants and playing basketball. Big Smoke is my favourite boss as his
missions have been the best (so far).
Lance "Ryder" Wilson
--------------------
Ryder is a close friend of Sweet and has been since high school. He's been
dealing drugs since the age of 10 and like Big Smoke he is very high up in
the Grove Street Families. He likes dissing your driving skills and taking the
mic out of you since you've been on the east coast.
Frank Tenpenny and Eddie Pulaskie
---------------------------------
Two crooked cops who framed CJ for homicide on his way back to Grove Street.
They drop him off in rival gang territory and has talks with the other GSF
members. They also make CJ do their "dirty work".
Cesar Vialpando
---------------
Cesar proves to be very loyal to CJ later on in the game, but they both get
off on the wrong foot when CJ sees him with Kendl Johnson (CJ's younger
sister). Cesar is part of the "Vagos" gang and can be very dangerous, but he
is very protective over Kendl, his girlfriend.
Kendl Johnson
--------------
Your younger sister. Her and Sweet never got on very well since their youngest
sibling Brian died in a car accident. Not much I can say about her.....
========\_____________________________________________________________________
9: Gangs ---------------------------------------------------------------------
==============================================================================
There are many gangs in San Andreas, but you only really need to care about
them in Los Santos. They play quite a big part in Los Santos, but in the other
islands, they are not important.
Gang: Grove Street Families
Leader/s: Carl and Sweet Johnson
Location: Grove street, Ganton, Los Santos
Colour: Green
Info: This is the gang you run and reprisent throughout the game. It is not
the biggest gang in San Andreas, and it's your job to put them back on top.
They dress in green and you can usually find Grove Street gang members
driving around green turf in lowriders.
Gang: Ballas
Leader/s: Zane
Location: Most of Los Santos
Colour: Purple
Info: The ballas are Grove Street Families sworn enemies. Fights between
these two colours aren't too rare. The ballas more or less run Los Santos.
When CJ and Sweet aren't running Grove Street full-time, the ballas usually
have the bigger gang and the most territory.
Gang: Los Santos Vagos
Leader/s: Unknown
Location: East Los Santos
Colour: Yellow
Info: This gang is the third big gang in Los Santos. They control mainly the
east side of Los Santos. They have no leader according to me so that's
probably why they're not a very strong threat to the ballas or Grove Street
Families.
Gang: Las Aztecas Varrios
Leader/s: Unknown
Location: East Los Santos
Colour: Cyan
Info: A very small gang in Los Santos. They don't own any turf in the whole
game and they are either the Vagos' rivals or close friends. Not much is known
about this gang, but I think they are just there so the Vagos gang have
rivals.
Gang: Triads
Leader/s: Woozie
Location: Chinatown, San Fierro
Colour: Black?
Info: Woozie is the guy you meet at one of the races in the countryside. He
runs the Triads in Chinatown, San Fierro. You work for him through the most of
the story.
Gang: Da Nang Boys
Leader/s: Unknown
Location: Easter Basin, San Fierro
Colour: Unknown
Info: The Da Nang Boys are the second largest gang in San Fierro. Fights
between this gang and the Triads aren't too rare, just like the fights
between the Ballas and Grove Street Families. You have to do quite a few
missions which involve killing members of this group for the Triads, so
you're not too popular with this mob.

10: The Police ---------------------------------------------------------------
==============================================================================
The police play a big role in San Andreas, and you need to know what they do,
what to do if you have a wanted level and so on. This section is made to help
you feel more confortable with the police, so please don't diss it...
Wanted Level
------------
* - You can earn one star by killing a few pedestrians, aim at a cop, aim at a
pedestrian when a cop is watching, or just do a small crime while the
police are watching you. Whatever "small" crime you commit to get a one
star wanted level, you can escape the cops easily by just hiding in one
spot away from the police, or just by not killing anyone for a while.
Alternetly, you won't have any trouble with the police as long as you have
one star.
** - Now the police are angry, but they are not using brutal force yet. To
earn two stars, you need to kill a cop by running them over or by
shooting them. Basically, the more chaos you cause, the more dirty the
police get, but even at two stars the cops are trying to shoot you, chase
you and run you down.
*** - Now you have really pissed off the feds. Just keep on driving over
pedestrians/cops, blowing up cars and just simply causing as much chaos
as possible if you want a real tough fight against the cops. The
helicopters will start flying in now, and if you're driving a car, the
police on bikes will jump on the back of your car and you will have to
shake them off.
**** - Now the police are bringing in the SWAT team and the police SUV's. The
SWAT carry Tec 9's and will take you down very quickly if you don't
take cover quickly. If you've caught the police's attention "by
accident" (which is very hard to do if you've got 4 stars), then you
might as well fight back with your gun so you can upgrade it to hitman
level.
***** - It is only on rare occasions when you get a five star wanted level.
When you are in Los Santos, you can only get a maximum of four stars,
so you need to unlock the other cities if you want five stars on you.
If the wanted level system in San Andreas is anything like the other
two, then the FBI will show up next. The FBI use AK's and are very
hard to take down, but you must have done some terrible things to get
the FBI on you...
****** - Now you're just too hot to handle. The police decided that they'll
drop your case and let the army take over. The army come in tanks and
all sorts of armoured vehicles and they are not very kind people.
They will shoot you on sight, so you escaping the army WITHOUT cheats
is the equivelent to being the GTA KING.
Busted
------
You only really get busted when you have 1-3 stars because if you have more
than that, the police will just try and kill you. You can't get busted on
foot, you can only get busted in a vehicle. This is a neat feature put in by
Rockstar because if you fight the police on foot, there is a chance of you
getting wasted, but if you fight back in vehicles, then can arrest you by
simply opening your door.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Edit submitted by tomxiaau:
if your on foot you can get busted by a cop. If a cop swings his nightstick
at you and you fall to the ground the police will bust you.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
When you get busted, the screen will fade out and you will spawn to the
nearest police station and you will lose all your guns and some money. The
first time you get busted, you get a short tutorial showing you what happens
when you get busted, so that is probably a lot more clearer than this section
of the guide :P
Escaping the Police
-------------------
There are different ways of escaping the police, but it gets harder when you
have more than three stars. This small sub-section should clear that up.
* - Find a car and drive into a Pay N' Spray to completely get rid of the
police, or just find a police bribe. But the easiest way to get rid of
your first star is to just keep a low profile and stay away from the
police. And don't fight back at this stage, because then you will raise
your wanted level.
** - You can't hide from the police anymore. Just find a police bribe to get
rid of one star, then you can just lay low for a while.
*** - Now things get a bit harder. Driving into the Pay N' Spray is probably
the easiest way to evade your wanted level. But you could try just
finding two police bribes, but I don't think you'll last.
**** - Definately the Pay N' Spray.
***** - Chances are, now the place is swarming with cops and FBI cars and you
won't be able to find a normal car. If this is the case, either find a
police bribe and take it from there, or go to your house and save it.
Saving will shake off your wanted level.
****** - Now the chances of finding a normal pedestrian car is slimmer than a
bear skating on really thin ice. Therefore, the easiest and the only
thing to do is to drive over to your house and save.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Edit from Bladewil:
Just wanted to let you know stars do fade away if you have two or even three
if you just wait long enough and run a while.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Police Transport
----------------
The police now have different ways of transport. Here is the list:
Police Car:
These can be found all over the city. They are black and white and have
sirens. They are really fast and jacking one will give you a one star wanted
level.
Police Motorbike:
Around the cities you will find a lot of these. They are driven by black men
all the time wearing helmets and goggles. The HPV100 (sp?) is probably the
most common motorbike in the game and the consequences of stealing one is the
same as stealing a cop car.
Police SUV:
The police SUV's can be found mainly around the countryside and the Badlands.
They are the same colour as the police car but they are in the shape of a
Land Rover or a 4x4.
Police Helicopter:
If this game is anything like Vice City, you are able to drive the police
helicopter. I hope it is the same in this game. Anyway, these things start
chasing you when you have a three star wanted level, and it takes a long time
to blow it up with your guns.

11: Weapons ------------------------------------------------------------------
==============================================================================
The weapons in San Andreas are very similar to the weapons in Vice City.
Again, you can only hold one type of weapon (e.g you can't hold an AK47 and
an M4). This section will explain all the weapons in the whole game. I will
split this section into groups of different types of weapons to make it
easier to look through.
Power : How powerful it is out of 10
Accuracy : How accurate it is out of 10
Speed : How fast it reloads out of 10 (10 being the fastest)
Clip Size : How many bullets it can hold in one round
Durability : How long this weapon is going to last you
Rareness : How rare/common the weapon is out of 5 (5 being VERY common)
Best used for : (e.g stealth, gun fights)
Gangstar : How much percentage you need to reach gangstar level
Hitman : How much percentage you need to reach hitman level
Overall : My overall socre of the weapon out of 10
Hands
-----
~~~~~~~
Fists
~~~~~~~
The only thing you keep with you throughout the game. Your fists. A vital
instrument in San Andreas. This is the one weapon the cops don't take away
from you when you get busted. Your fists are only really helpful at the
beginning of the game when you don't have many guns or melee weapons.
Power : 3/10
Accuracy : 8/10
Speed : N/A
Clip Size : N/A
Durability : Forever
Rareness : 5/5
Best used for : Stealth
Gangstar : N/A
Hitman : N/A
Overall : 5/10
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Brass Knuckles
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Once you get hold of these babies you can't give them up. They stay on your
hands until you die or get busted! They do a bit more damage than your fists
but theres not a huge difference. I like bare fists better than these, but
only because it looks better. When you have brass knuckles on, it looks like
a big metal chiken wire on your hand.

12: Los Santos Walkthrough ---------------------------------------------------
==============================================================================
This is the main story-missions walkthrough - probably the most important part
of the game and this guide. The early missions of the game are very easy and I
probably won't give much detail and stuff like that, but when the missions get
harder then I will start putting a little effort into the walkthrough.
SPOILERS AHEAD! ONLY READ WHAT MISSION YOU ARE STUCK ON TO AVOID MAJOR
SPOILERS!!
Opening Mission
---------------
The game starts off with a touching but kinda weird opening movie which you
should watch, but when you get dropped off by the cops and are in Balls
territory, quickly hop on the BMX in front of you. Ride the bike to the "CJ"
blip on the radar, and just try and get used to the feel of the bike. You will
want to ride the bicycles a lot in the game so start building up your stats
here. When you get to CJ's mums' house, you just have to watch through a
series of cut-scenes, then you hop on another BMX with the rest of the gang
and you have to run away from the Ballas. Stay close to Sweet and Ryder and
try your best to avoid the Ballas' cars. When you arrive back at Your place,
Sweet will give you a quick phonecall explaining a little about how the
streets have changed since you've been gone.
=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
12A: Sweet
=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
Sweet is your big brother, also head of the Grove Street Families. He is
quite mad at you for the moment because of your ma' but he does strt giving
you some love later on (not in a gay way :P) lol. Anyway, he gives you the
first eight missions, and they are quite easy to get through (especially if
you've played Vice City).
Sweet's missions can be found just outside of his house which is just to the
right of your house. His missions are mainly just tutorials and they are very
easy. Try and get these missions done as quickly as possible, before you get
bored.
--------------
12A.1: Ryder
--------------
OBJECTIVES:
- Get a haircut and some food
- Drive Ryder back to his house
Start the mission by walking into the red marker outside Ryder's house. Get
in the car with him and drive to Idlewood (just down the road) and enter the
barber shop. Choose whatever hairstyle you want. You start the game with only
$350, so why not get a cheap cut like and afro or something you can afford.
Once you're done with Old Reece, go outside and when you're finished talking
to Ryder go into the pizza shop just across the road. Order some food (I got
the $10 meal) then Ryder will come in with a gun and try and start a raid. Too
bad the guy behind the counter knows who Ryder is and pulls out a shotgun.
Quickly run outside and hop in the car with Ryder and drive back to Grove
Street to complete the mission.
REWARD:
- Respect +
------------------------
12A.2: Tagging up Turf
------------------------
OBJECTIVES:
- use the spraycan to spray over some tags
- Drive Sweet back to his house
Walk into the red marker outside Sweet's house then watch the cutscene. Get in
the car with Sweet and drive over to the yellow icon on your radar. Sweet will
get out and spray over the first tag to show you how to use the spraycan. Now
you're in control. You have to spray over 5 more tags around this area. To use
the spraycan, aim at the graffiti with R1, then hold circle or L1 until you
get a message on your screen telling you how many tags you've sprayed over.
Quickly tag the first two tags in the area (the green dots on your map is
where the tags are) then get in the car and drive to the next location.
Drive to the next yellow icon on the radar in East Los Santos, then run into
the alleyway where you will find two ballas standing next to some graffiti.
Don't forget that you can use the spraycan as a weapon, but here it is
probably easier if you use the spraycan on one of them, then when they are
blind, beat up the other guy with your fists. When you're done, spray over
the tag.
Now, this is a very short tutorial of how to climb over fences. Run up to the
red marker by the fence and press square to climb it. Follow the instructions
and go left and climb onto the roof of the building. Spray over the tag up
there and Sweet will pull up in his car. Get in and drive back to Grove Street
with Sweet to complete the mission.
REWARDS:
- $200
- Respect +
- Spraycan is now available in your bedroom, you can now spray over tags in
Los Santos.
NOTE: When the mission ends, you will get phonecall from one of Tenpenny's
officers, "Hernandez". He will tell you that leaving the city pf Los
Santos right now would be your biggest mistake. He is being serious,
because doing so will give you a four star wanted level.
NOTE: You can now find the spraycan in the bedroom in your house. Tags work
like hidden packages. Find a tag, target it with the spraycan and hold
circle or L1 to spray over it. Check out the in-depth guide to find all
100 tags at GameFAQs.
--------------------------
12A.3: Cleaning the Hood
--------------------------
OBJECTIVES:
- Find and kill the drug dealer
- Go to the Ballas' gang house and beat the crap outa them
Start by getting in the car with Ryder and driving to B Dup's place. Watch
the cutscene then get in a car and drive with Ryder around the block to find
someone dealing to one of your homies. Get out of the car and beat him up.
Pick up his bat and get back in the car then drive over to the Ballas crack
yard with Ryder. When you're inside, Target the first Balla lying down on the
floor with the bat and you should kill him in one shot. Next, take care of the
two guys on the left side of the room. Make sure you don't get knocked down on
the floor because you will probably never be able to get up and you will die.
When all the Ballas are dead, go outside with RYder and get in a car and drive
back to Grove Street.
REWARDS:
- Respect +
-------------------
12A.4: Drive-thru
-------------------
OBJECTIVES:
- Drive to Cluckin' Bell with Smoke, Ryder and Sweet
- Ram into the Balla's car while your friends shoot it
- Drive Smoke back to his house
Drive to the icon of a chicken on the map and a cutscene will play of the four
Grove Streets ordering their food. When Big Smoke orders his FEAST of a meal,
Ballas will drive past and do a drive-by - and they're heading towards the
Grove! Quickly step on the pedal and go right and right again. Keep close to
the car and don't rely on the others to shoot the car. To damage the car
quickly, ram into the side and trap it against the wall. If the Ballas make it
back to the Grove, you fail the mission, so you have to stop them really early
on in the chase or else you'll lose them. However you end up killing the
Ballas, drive back to Grove Street, then Smoke will ask for a lift back to his
place just down the road.
REWARDS:
- $200
- Respect +
- Gym is now available to use
NOTE: When you drive Smoke back to his house, you will get a phonecall from
Sweet. He will tell you to visit the gym in Ganton just down the road
from your house. I went there as soon as I got the message from Sweet.
Use the weights to build up some muscles and use the two running
machines to build up stamina.
-----------------------
12A.5: Nines and AK's
-----------------------
OBJECTIVES:
- Drive to Emmet's with Big Smoke
- Drive Smoke back home
- Pick up some new threads at Binco
Start the mission then head over to Emmet's to pick up a 9mm pistol. Now you
have to go through a short tutorial on how to weild a pistol. When you're done
with the tutorial, drive Smoke back to his house. Shortly after you will get a
call from Sweet telling you to put on some green threads at Binco's. Drive
over to the icon and go into the shop. Put on some green clothes and anything
else that catches your eye, then step outside to complete the mission.
REWARDS:
- Respect +
- Big Smoke opens up as a boss
-----------------
12A.6: Drive-by
-----------------
OBJECTIVES:
- Drive over to Ballas territory and do some drive-by's
- Shake off the cops
- Drive the gang back to grove Street
After the short cutscene of Ryder and Smoke talking about you and your bad
driving, get in the Greenwood outside of Sweet's house and drive to the red
mark. Drive past the first lot of ballas quite quickly and take note of your
cars' health in the corner of your screen. If you don't manage to take out all
the Ballas first time around, go back and do it again. When they are all dead,
get out of the car and pick up all of the dropped weapons and money.
Now head to the next set of Ballas. Do the same as you did last time, drive
past the group and let Sweet, Ryder and Smoke take care of the shooting. If
there is enough space in front of you, try and do a drive-by yourself. Again,
when they are all dead, get out and pick up the weapons. Now, the next set of
Ballas is just down the road. This group is slightly different to the others,
this group doesn't have a car. Therefore you can just run them all over and
pick up their guns.
The fourth and final set of Ballas are in Glen Park, the centre of Balla
territory. Again this group doesn't have a car, so you can run over the
biggest part of the group, and let the others shoot the survivers. When all
the Ballas are dead, you get a two star wanted level. The best thing to do
here is to drive straight to the pay N' spray. If you go around to the other
side of the park and pick up the police bribe, the police will still be on
your tail so just go straight to the icon on your map. When you've shaken the
feds, drive back to Sweets house.
REWARDS:
- $500

- Ryder now opens up as a boss
---------------------
12A.7: Sweet's Girl
---------------------
OBJECTIVES:
- Drive to Sweet's girl's house
- Kill all the Ballas and take Sweet and the girl back home
A very easy and short mission. You should have a lot of ammo from the previous
mission but if you feel you need some more ammo just for safety, go over to
Emmet's. But take note of Sweet's health at the corner of the screen. Drive
over to the location and run over as many gang members as you can. Shoot the
remainders and then get in a four-door vehicle (just hop in the one by the red
circle) and pick up Sweet and his girl. Drive back to the Grove to finish the
mission.
REWARDS:
- Respect +
------------------------
12A.8: Cesar Vialpando
------------------------
OBJECTIVES:
- Pick up the lowrider
- Go to the lowrider meeting
Drive over to the yellow icon on your map and pick up your lowrider. The
dealer here will give you a free lowrider with free hydraulics. Back your car
into the garage and you can mod it. You don't have to for this mission, but
you should because you will keep the car for later on in the game. Anyhoo,
once you're done, drive over to the lowrider meet and place a bet. This part
is really easy. Just move the right analog stick in the same direction as it
says on the screen IN TIME with the beat/circle. You shouldn't have any
problems doing this, because your opponent is rubbish. If you win the lowrider
challenge, you open a cutscene with Kendl and Cesar. But if the other
lowrider gets more points than you, you fail the mission.
REWARDS:
- How much you bet
- Respect +
- Cesar opens up as a boss
NOTE: When you're done with the mission, Cesar will ring you up and tell you
to go to his ends with a lowrider to have a race. You can do this
whenever you want as long as you have a lowrider. Check out the
walkthrough for his mission in the side missions section.

12B: Ryder
=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
All of Ryder's missions can be found just outside his house which is to the
left of yours. He only has three missions, but they are quite hard, and you
have to be quite patient to actually enjoy them.
----------------------
12B.1: Home Invasion (12:00 - 20:00)
----------------------
OBJECTIVES:
- Steal 3 boxes of guns before daylight
This is your tutorial to breaking into houses. Start by getting in the truck
with Ryder and driving to the house. Then walk in and follow the instructions
on the screen. You have to steal at least three crates to complete the
mission. There are six crates in the house, but collecting more than three
doesn't make a difference on your reward at the end of the mission. Anyway,
you can find two crates on the bottom floor, and another one in the same room
as the guy sleeping. Try and keep a steady pace throughout the robbery because
if you jog the analog stick it will make a lot of noise. When you have three
crates of guns in the van, drive to the lockup to complete the mission.
REWARDS:
- Respect +
-----------------
12B.2: Catalyst (20:00 - 6:00)
-----------------
OBJECTIVES:
- Get to the train and shoot gang members
- Throw crates off the train into the car
- Shake off the cops
This is quite a fun mission. Drive with Ryder to the train and you will see
Grove Street fighting against the Vagos gang. Take out some Vagos gang
members, then some Ballas will show up. Pick up any dropped guns and take out
the Ballas. Use the Vagos car and the boxes for cover if you need to. Pick up
all the money and guns on the floor, then run over to the back of the train
and the screen will blackout.
You are now standing on the back of the moving train in first person view. You
need to throw the crates from the back of the train into the Ryder's hands who
is standing on the back of a car. To throw a crate, hold L1 and release it,
using the left analog stick to aim where you throw it. The longer you hold L1,
the more powerful your throw is. You are more likely to get the crate into
the car if you aim above the car. When you have 10 crates with Ryder in the
car, CJ will jump off the train and you will get a 3 star wanted level. If you
got off the train halfway through the tunnel, turn back and go out of the
tunnel, don't go through the tunnel because it goes on for ages. Get in the
car and drive to the Pay N' spray to shake off the cops, then drive back to
Grove Street to complete the mission.
REWARDS:
- Respect +
--------------------------
12B.3: Robbing Uncle Sam
--------------------------
OBJECTIVES:
- Drive to the army base
- Use the Forklift to put 6 crates of explosives
- Deliver the boxes with Ryder safely to the lockup
This is probably the funnest mission so far. Start by driving to the yellow
icon on your radar which might be hard to get to because the bridge that leads
to your destination is quite hard to reach. Park in the red marker when you
get there, then Ryder will tell you to shoot the switch on the other side of
the fence. To do this, equip your 9mm (pistol) and go to the yellow wall on
the if you are facing the gate from the road you came from. Press square to
get on top of the wall then shoot the guard standing next to you from the top
of the wall. When he's dead, quickly jump down and shoot the switch. Shoot the
switch as quickly as you can because Ryder might be able to run over some
guards.
Now Ryder has the van inside the base, shoot the two or three guards that
start shooting at you and make sure you don't lose any life here. When the
place is clear, go over to the warehouse by the van and shoot the other
switch. The gate will open and there will be two guards waiting for you in
here. Shoot them both and pick up their guns if you want. Now hop in the
Forklift inside the warehouse.
You have to get six boxes into the van using the Forklift. There are four
boxes at the back of the warehouse, and two are just outside the warehouse.
To get the boxes on the Forklift, use the right analog stick to move the fork
up and down, then just drive the boxes into the back of the van. Whenever you
get a box into the van, enemies will shoot at Ryder. Get out of the Forklift
after every box to help shoot the guards with Ryder. When you have all six
boxes in the van, get in it with Ryder and head back to the lockup.
This is the fun part. The guards will be chasing the van in Patriots, and
Ryder will be standing at the back of the van. You can order Ryder to throw a
box out of the van by pressing L3, so do so when you see a Patriot by the back
of the van, but the great thing is that you can't run out of boxes. The boxes
will explode when Ryder throws them out at the guards, so you only really need
to use Ryder once. Anyway, the guards won't trouble you too much in this
chase, so just drive to the lockup and you should have no problem.
REWARDS:

=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
12C: Big Smoke
=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
Big Smoke is a close family friend to you and Sweet, and is a very important
member of the Grove Street Families. His missions are all at his new house
which is just down the road from Grove Street.
---------------
12C.1: OG Loc
---------------
OBJECTIVES:
- Pick up OG Loc
- Chase Freddy on a PCJ and kill him
- Take OG back to Burger Shot
Get in the car with Sweet and Smoke once you're in control of Carl, then drive
to the yellow icon on your radar and pick up OG Loc. After the short
conversation with CJ and OG Loc, get back in the car and drive to the next
yellow icon on your radar. When you arrive at Freddy's house, Sweet and Smoke
will shoot off so go and ring the bell to Freddy's house.
When OG Loc scares off Freddy, quickly hop on the PCJ just by his house and
chase Freddy through the alleyways. OG will shoot from the bike at Freddy but
Freddy never falls off his bike. If you don't ride motorbikes that often, you
will find this mission very hard to complete. Freddy will wait for you
sometimes if you're too far behind, so don't worry too much about losing him.
Just don't stay right on his tail because he takes sharp turns and you will
crash and fall off your bike. Anyway, when Freddy stops at the basketball
courts with some Vagos gang members, get off the bike and shoot the gang
members. Don't rely on OG Loc to shoot them back because he will get scared
and not fight back. When Freddy is dead, get back on the bike or in any
vehicle and drive OG Loc to Burger Shot to complete the mission.
REWARDS:
- Respect +
- OG Loc opens up as a boss
--------------------
12C.2: Running Dog
--------------------
OBJECTIVES:
- Drive to "Smoke's cousin"
- Chase gang member and kill him
A very simple mission, and a very stupid one at that. It involves almost no
effort and no fun. Just drive with Smoke to the yellow blip and watch the
cutscene. Chase down the Vagos gang member as he climbs over the different
fences and then just either shoot him or punch him to death to end the
mission.
REWARDS:
- Respect +
---------------------------------
12C.3: Wrong Side of the Tracks
---------------------------------
OBJECTIVES:
- Drive to the meeting point
- Chase the train and let Smoke kill the four vagos boys
Finally, a fun mission! Get in Smoke's crappy car and head right and right
again and find the yellow blip on your map. Watch the cutscene and when the
gang members spot you and Smoke, hop on the Sanchez nearby and chase the
train. Now, this is the fun part. Follow the train and let Smoke shoot at the
Vagos gang members on top of the train. Quite early on in the chase, a car
will block your path and explode in your face. To avoid this, just drive
slowly or around the car. Then, shortly after another train will come in your
direction. If you don't get out of the way quick enough you will crash and
lose precious time so when the train comes go right off the tracks.
Now, you have passed two quite difficult obstacles, but there is one more. The
easiest way to kill the gang members is to stay on the far right of the front
carriage so Smoke can shoot them. If you get too close to the train, Smoke
won't even hit the gang members, he'll just hit the train, so move to the
right a little. By the time you are out of the tunnel, you should have at
least two gang members dead. At the end of the tunnel, follow Smoke's
instrucions and take the dirt road on the right. Keep on the road until the
small tunnel, then get back on the tracks and finish off the remaining Vagos
gang members. If the train reaches the bridge leading to San Fierro, you fail
the mission and Smoke will fade away into the distance.
REWARDS:
- Respect +
----------------------
12C.4: Just Business
----------------------
OBJECTIVES:
- Drive with Smoke to the building
- Help him shoot the guards
- Shoot the guards off the back of the dirt bike and make it back to Grove
Street alive.
If you thought the last mission was fun, that was just a little taster because
this mission is by far the best mission so far, but make sure you have saved
before attempting this mission. Start by driving to the building downtown with
Smoke, then after the.... amusing cutscene, get into cover behind the small
wall and help Smoke blast out the guards.
Inside the building, lock on to the nearest guard and stay in position until
you have killed at least five guards. Use the R2 and L2 buttons to change
target while locked on for more accuracy and speed. When you've killed enough
guards, your machine-pistol skill should be upgraded just a little, but
anyway, pick up the armour behind the small wall then go to the door with
Smoke. Now you're on the roof of the building. Stay crouched for more
accuracy but if you are shooting a guard and he's not dying, just stand up and
finish him off. Pick up any dropped weapons and money then when all the guards
are dead Smoke will hop on a Sanchez and you have to shoot off the back.
Now Smoke's returning the favour by driving, and it's your job to use the Tec
9 and shoot the guards. you have infinite ammo now, so just keep an eye on the
road and on the bike's health. The motorbikes probably cause the most damage
so take them out as quick as possible. The big truck you don't have to worry
about because there's no way of destroying it. When you get to the roadblock,
take out the middle car to blow evrything up, then take out the next car on
the left as Smoke takes you through the L.A (or L.S) dam. Now just shoot the
cars and bikes and when the truck finds you again, just ignore it because
Smoke will deal with it and you can't destroy it. When you get to the really
awesome cutscene which will blow your eyes out, take out the guards by the
car, then when Smoke tells you to, shoot the fence and the two guards so Smoke
can get through. Finish off the cars and in the alleyways shoot the barrels to
lose your tail and go your seperate ways with Big Smoke.

12D: OG Loc
=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
OG Loc is one of your friends and was just released from prison not long ago.
As you should know from one of the missions not to long ago, OG Loc is REALLY
annoying and he's just... annoying! Anyway, his missions can be found at the
burger shot in Verona.
-----------------------
12D.1: Life's a Beach (22:00 - 6:00)
-----------------------
OBJECTIVES:
- Drive to the Beach Party
- Get a score higher than 4000
- Drive the van to the garage
Try and start this mission at almost exactly 22:00 because if you fail, you
will have enough time to try the mission again without waiting another 12
hours. So, drive down to the beach and when you get to the party go over and
talk to the DJ by the van. Press right twice when you talk to her and you will
have to start dancing. This can be very frustrating at times because the
buttons aren't always in time with the music. Anyway, you need a score higher
than 4000 to pass.
I can't help you with the dancing, because even though the buttons come in the
same order everytime, it's up to you to get it in time. When you finally get
more than 4000 points, talk to the DJ again and reply positevely to gain
access to the van. Quickly drive off the beach and CJ will throw the DJ out of
the van. The security will now chase you to get the van back, but they're not
that aggresive so you should find this very easy. Drive to the garage to
complete the mission.
REWARDS:
- Respect +
---------------------------
12D.2: Madd Dogg's Rhymes
---------------------------
OBJECTIVES:
- Sneak into Madd Dogg's crib and steal his rhyme book
- Escape the mansion and take the rhyme book back to OG Loc
Drive down to Vinewood and enter Madd Dogg's crib. This mission is just an
introduction/tutorial to stealth missions. The game will tell you what to do
while you're in the mansion, so I don't need to write a walkthrough for this
mission. All I can say is that make sure you are blue on the radar nearly all
the time because when you (on the radar) turn blue, that means you are in the
shadows and you can't be seen. When you get the rhyme book, quickly run out
of the studio and pick up the armour in the room in front of you. Then, shoot
the guard shooting at you and pick up his gun. Now go back THE WAY YOU CAME
FROM, if you go another way, you will get lost completely and it will take
even longer to get out of the mansion. When you get out of the mansion, hop on
the Mountain Bike outside and drive back to OG Loc to complete the mission.
REWARDS:
- Respect +
- Frank Tenpenny opens up as a boss
NOTE: After you complete the mission, you wil get a call from Officer Tenpenny
telling you to go see him at the donut shop in the centre of town. This
will open up a new set of missions, but let's stay with OG Loc for the
time being...
--------------------------
12D.3: Management Issues
--------------------------
OBJECTIVES:
- Steal the Chauffeur's car and drive to the concert
- Drive the car into the sea with Madd Dogg's manager in it
Head straight to the red icon on your radar to find the Chauffeur's car. Now
it says that you have to destroy the car to get the chauffeur out of the car
but you can just park in front of it and steal it normally. When you have the
car, drive to the next red icon on the radar. Park between the two black cars
in the same direction then stay in the middle of the pack until you get to the
concert.
Madd Dogg's manager will hop in your car along with another woman. You have to
drive the car into the sea without you in it and without anyone seeing you.
The other chauffeur's will now be chasing you, but again they are easy to lose
and they're not that aggresive. Drive to the pier and when you get to the long
stretch, head down it at top speed, then press triangle near the end of the
pier to jump out. If anyone sees you dump the car in the river, you'll have to
chase them and kill them yourself. To prvent anyone seeing you, drive-by the
other cars chasing you, but it's not a big deal if you are seen, because it's
easy to kill whoever sees you.
REWARDS:
- Respect +
--------------------
12D.4: House Party
--------------------
OBJECTIVES:
- Get to the house party in Grove Street
- Shoot all the Ballas
When you get to Burger Shot, OG Loc will tell you to go get some new clothes
and a new haircut to get ready for the party he's throwing. You don't have to
do this, but it can be a chance to try out the other clothe shops. I put on a
cowboy hat and a checkered shirt with jeans, I looked quite cool...
The party starts at 20:00 and ends at 6:00. The party is in Grove Street
opposite your house. When you get there, you get to REALLY see how bad OG
is... so step outside with Ryder and one of your homies will warn you about
some Ballas attacking. Sweet and the others will block the road off with two
cars. After the cutscene, pick up the Tec 9 by the car and start shooting the
Ballas. Try not to lose any health here, but make sure you leave the Balla
behind the car for now. Just let him wait behind the car and se this time to
pick up the dropped money and Tec 9's. Kill him when you're ready and more
Ballas will come from the bridge above.
When all the Ballas on the bridge (second wave) are dead, loads of Ballas will
attack the Grove from all different directions. Now Sweet's health will appear
on the screen, so if he dies, you fail the mission. Sweet tells you to protect
the alleyway by your house, but your homies will do that for you so you should
shoot the other Ballas coming from different parts of the Grove. Some will
come from near Sweet's house, and some will come from where the cars are
(where you started the shootout). Take them all out by yourself (if you're low
on health just duck behind a wall or something) and when you have killed all
the Ballas by yourself, there should still be some more troubling Sweet and
your homies, so just go down the alleyway and finish them off yourself.
REWARDS:
- Respect +
=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
12E: Frank Tenpenny
=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
Frank Tenpenny and Eddie Polaski are two crooked cops who frame you for
homicide on your way back to Grove Street. Their missions can be found in the
donut shop in the centre of town. It is marked with a donut icon on the radar
(it's a bit hard to see, don't know exactly what it's meant to be)
-----------------------
12E.1: Burning Desire
-----------------------
OBJECTIVES:
- Torch Vagos gang house
- Rescue Denise and take her home
Tenpenny wants you to go and torch the Vagos gang house with Molotov
Cocktails. He's hidden some in an alleyway and you need to pick them up. When
you pick them up, head over to the Vagos house. When you get there, get out
any gun and shoot the gang members outside the house, using the car as cover.
Make sure you kill them all losing minimum health. Throw a Molotov through
the first window and more gang members will come out so kill them as well. Run
around to the other side of the house and smash those windows, and also kill
the other gang members here.
A cutscene will now play showing a woman still trapped in the house. The front
door will open, so quickly run inside and stay away from the flames. Run into
the kitchen avoiding the fire and pick up the Fire Extinguisher. Head to the
back living room and go up the stairs. Denise is in the last room on the left,
and you can only get to the room by putting out at least one fire. Aim the
Fire Extinguisher at the base of the fire (the middle) and hold it there until
the flames go out. The walls will colapse when you get to the girl but you
have to escape the house with her.
The hallway will be blocked so you have to go through the different rooms to
get down the stairs. Go slowly so Denise stays close to you and you don't run
into fire. When you get downstairs, the rest should be really easy. Just get
outside but before you get out, make sure Denise is right behind you because
it is really annoying when you have to go back and get her. When Denise is
safely out of the house, she will ask you to take her back to her place in
Grove Street. When you take her back and complete the mission, Denise can now
be your girlfriend, so check out the Girlfriend section of this guide for more
information on how girlfriends work.
REWARDS:
- Respect +
- Denise can now be your girlfriend
- Sweet opens up as a boss
NOTE: Sweet will ring you up and tell you to go to the Ammunation store in
Downtown. You should do his mission after you finish off Tenpenny's last
mission.
---------------------
12E.2: Gray Imports
---------------------
OBJECTIVES:
- Get to the warehouse and sneak in
- Kill the Russians Arms Dealer
When you are in control of Carl, get in any vehicle and drive to the yellow
blip on your radar. When you get to the warehouse, go to the right and run
behind the garage thingies. Take out the guard standing with his back to you
standing just outside the door to the warehouse. Now you have alerted the
other guards, climb up on the crates and stand by the armour up here. Now that
you're up here, you can't get run over by the Forklifts. Shoot the guards on
the ground then shoot the barrels on the forklift to blow them up. Pick up the
armour if you need to, then shoot the switch by the big door to open the gate.
Shoot the two guards waiting for you in there then run inside and pick up the
guns and money.
It is quite important that you pick up everything you find in this mission
because you don't get any money at the end of the mission. Run inside the
warehouse and make sure you look around the corners before you turn them. Pick
up the health and armour pickups and shoot anyone you see. When you get to the
end of the warehouse in the big area with loads of Russians in it, don't rush
in all guns blazin, instead just stand in one spot behind a crate or something
and pick your targets out one by one. Run up the stairs when you have cleared
the warehouse and if you got through the warehouse anything like I did, you
will have a lot of health left. When you see the short cutscene of the russian
geeza, take out the few Ballas in the room and chase him. You can kill the
Russian guy before he runs out and gets in his Banshee so don't give up and
only shoot the guards that are annoying and killing you. If the arms dealer
gets in his Banshee, just hop on the bike behind him and drive-by him. When
he's dead, the mission is complete, and you are finished with Tenpenny and you
can work for your brother again.
REWARDS:
- Ammunation is now open
=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
12F: Sweet Pt. 2
=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
You can now work for your brother again. His last four missions are probably
the hardest missions so far in the game, so make sure you save after every
mission.
-----------------
12F.1: Doberman
-----------------
OBJECTIVES:
- Take over Glen Park
This mission starts outside Ammunation. You have to take over some Ballas turf
in Glen Park and this mission is a tutorial to gang warfare. Go inside the
Ammunation shop and buy some armour and a lot of the same machine guns. Drive
over to Glen Park and read the information as it appears on your screen. When
you get to Glen Park, find a group of more than 3 Ballas and kill them all to
start a gang war. You have to defeat and survive three waves of Ballas to
complete the mission and to take over Glen Park. The first wave mainly just
carry melee weapons and maybe some have pistols. There will be some armour and
health around the park somewhere so look out for them. The second wave should
be a bit harder and Ballas will now come with machine-guns and Shotguns. But
when the third wave comes, there will be a LOT of Ballas all carrying AK's and
powerful weapons. When you defeat the three waves, kill the remaining Balla
by running him over or something.
Now you own Glen Park, and you can start gang wars and take over territories.
Look at the Gangs section of this guide when it is updated for more
information.
REWARDS:
- Respect +
- You can now take over territory
---------------------
12F.2: Los Sepulcos
---------------------
OBJECTIVES:
- Get to the graveyard and kill Kane
- Drive Sweet back to Grove Street
Sweet's made a plan to attack the Ballas at a funeral where all the main heads
will be at. You need to recruit two gang members to roll with you on this
mission. They're not really that helpful at all, but you need to do recruit
them so you get used to the idea of gang warfare. Recruit the two Grove
Street members outside Sweet's house, then hop in the car with Sweet and the
others. You will be given a time limit of 4 minutes, which is more than enough
time to get to the cemetery. Once you get there, stop in the red marker, then
climb over the wall with your homies.
You have to kill Kane when he arrives. In the meantime, you will be told how
to lead your gang around (press up to order them to follow you, press down to
order them to stay put). When Kane arives, go left and duck behind the small
wall and take out each Balla slowly. When you've killed about five Ballas,
pick up their ammo and cash then quickly chase down Kane. He really takes his
time to escape, but kill him quickly just incase something goes wrong. Use an
AK or an M4 to kill him (shotguns might be better, but they're too slow).
When you have killed Kane, hop in the car with Sweet and drive back to Grove
Street. The police won't bother you too much, but when you get back to Grove
Street, they go away.
REWARDS:

-------------------------------
12F.3: Reuniting the Families
-------------------------------
OBJECTIVES:
- Get to the Motel and save Sweet
- Get back to Grove Street safely
Get in the car with Sweet and the others, then head over to the Motel where
all the Grove Street Families will be meeting. When you get there, the cops
will show in a helicopter and Smoke and Ryder will kick out. Sweet is trapped
inside the Motel an
