Started: June 15, 2006 (seriously)
Completed: August 27, 2006
-Completed basic templates for all sections
-Completed Sections 0 through 3, 8, and 9
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
Version 0.9 ("Preliminary Edition")
vvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvv
Started: August 30, 2006
Completed: September 1, 2006
-Using IGN.com's list of player ratings (which one assumes is based on the
rosters the game will be using upon release), I have done initial transactions,
with the hope that this turns out to be accurate when the game actually comes
out.
-NOTE: Since this version was compiled using second-hand data, I make no
guarantees of its accuracy until I actually have a hard copy of NHL 07 running
in my PS2. Since I plan on getting the game on release day, it shouldn't affect
too many people (except those who manage to get their hands on early copies,
or people who get their copy earlier in the day than me.), but you should take
this version for what it is: A preliminary release done using what little info
I had on hand. I also make no guarantees that you can even do all the moves
that I list in this preliminary version, since I don't have the actual game
to check transaction rejections against.
-NOTE ADDENDUM: I'm actually not getting the game until Thursday, so expect
version 1 on Friday (I hope). Still, until then I make no promises that this
guide is perfectly workable and error free.
Finally, an IMPORTANT NOTE: If you use this preliminary version, you may have
to check the master list again for your next set of transactions in the event
that IGN's rosters were largely incorrect. If I find that they were right or
mostly right, I will simply make the changes in the version updates portion
of the guide.
-Created a template for section 7: Total Ratings Overhaul, a massive project
which aims to fix the ratings of most of the NHLers in the game.
^^^^^^^^^^^
Version 1.0
vvvvvvvvvvv
Started: September 14, 2006
Completed: September 15, 2006
-Made actual roster fixes since IGN screwd up so badly. Also added a section to
the roster update portion that included fake players (EA staffers) who once
again make an appearance (Come on EA, stop being so conceited. If you want to
be in the game, put yourselves on a fake team, not as a free agent)
^^^^^^^^^^^
Version 1.1
vvvvvvvvvvv
Started: September 16, 2006
Completed: October 5, 2006
-Some small moves in the NHL section
-Added the prospect list, available in section 5: Elite League Roster Info
-Created the "players of interest" list in section 5. This list points out some
players in the 4 elite leagues that people might like to know about for one
reason or another. They could be former NHLers who might have a shred of
notability, they could be failed prospects, or they might just have a cool name
-Removed Youcantseeme333 as editor of the Sabres at his request.
-Added NewRockEdge's jersey number changes. Thanks to him for this excellent
addition.
-Did a few edits for players that were added to the NHL teams from Elite League
teams. These edits were done primarily to tone them down and make them an
acceptable rating level for the NHL. I have not changed anyone who was in the
NHL by default.
-Started adding full roster lists for each team. This update has rosters for
Anaheim through Calgary. These rosters are there for you to check that you
have the correct players on the team after completing the subtractions.

Introduction [01a]
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Another year, another NHL game, and another roster update guide by me. This
guide is my 4th work for the EA NHL series, and 3rd roster update guide, as I
previously worked on guides for NHL 2005 and NHL 06. I've made a few tweaks to
the format this time around. Although the section numbers, setup, chapter codes
and many pieces will look decidely similar, I have overhauled the NHL Roster
Updates section (section 4) to a new look, and altered the Elite League section
to reflect more of what I plan on doing with it (previously, I had called it
"Elite League Roster Changes" as if it was a parallel of the NHL section. Since
that is not my plan this year, I decided a change in name was necessary.
So, here's the low-down on what you'll find in this guide:
Section 1: Introduction/About me - This is what you're reading right now. The
first part is all about the sections of the guide. The second part is a brief
piece about me (obviously)
Section 2: Frequently Asked Questions - A collection of the most common things
I get asked via e-mail, forum discussions, or other means.
Section 3: How this guide works - Pretty self-explanatory. This will be the
part of the guide that you need to read in order to understand my sometimes
confusing notation and writing style
Section 4: NHL Roster Updates - The meat of the guide, this lists all the
changes you need to make to the 30 NHL clubs in order to make your rosters as
current as possible.
Section 5: International Roster Updates - Here I will post updated rosters for
major international tournaments like the World Championships. There aren't
other tournaments taking place this year (like the World Cup or Olympics) so
maybe to fill things out I'll add some "classic" teams (like previous years'
WC or Olympic teams that can be made with players in the game) or listings of
prominant current and recent World Juniors players in the game.
Section 6: Elite League Roster Info - See the difference in the name? For the
past 2 years I've toyed with the idea of actually updating the elite league
rosters, then backed off because it's just too ambitious a project. So this
year I'll not even consider that option. Instead I'll point out useful facts
about elite league teams and players, such as listing NHL prospects that can be
found there, former NHLers you might recognize, etc.
Section 7: Total Roster Overhaul - This new section aims to fix the ratings of
the NHL players in order to make them more pleasing to the fans. It is a
combined work of myself an many other people who will comb teams and make
changes as they can. Volunteering to help is highly appreciated, and since this
is a volunteer process, I can't make any certainties that you will agree with
the ratings that I or anyone else assign. I will do my best to make them as
unbiased and appropriate as possible, but it's simply impossible to please
everyone all the time.
Section 8: Contact Info: pretty self-explanatory as well. This section contains
my contact info and some guidelines on e-mailing me.
Section 9: In Closing/Legal Blurb - A standard combination of final words from
me, along with all the necessary legal information about this document.
About Me [01b]
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
So who am I? I'm the crazy that decided to make this guide, that's who.
Seriously though, I'm a hockey-crazy Canadian (as if there's any other kind)
currently attending college. My favorite team is the San Jose Sharks (yes, I
was a fan long before the Thornton trade so I'm not a bandwagoner), although
I live just outside of Vancouver, so I get a lot of Canucks info thrown on me
by local media.
I also follow the Vancouver Giants, and have some interest in the European
Elite leagues, especially the DEL. In fact, although I am a Canadian first and
foremost, I am proud of my 1/4 German heritage, and I follow the German
national team and own a Team Germany jersey customized with my favorite NHLer,
Marco Sturm.
If you're reading this guide and you've played EA NHL games before, you've no
doubt seen my handywork in the roster guides for NHL 2005 and 06, as well as a
custom team guide for NHL 2004.
So I enter my third year making the roster update guide for the EA series.
===============================================================================
Section 2: Frequently Asked Questions [02FAQ]
===============================================================================
Q: What's the deal with the "maybe Xbox360"?
A: Apparantly the rosters IGN showcased were those of the 360 version of the
game. If that's the case, the beta version of the guide was appropriate to
those changes, and version 1.0 (and subsequent versions) may not be (they are
based on my PS2 rosters, which are supposed to be the same as the PC, Xbox, and
PSP.
*************
Q: Do you have CAPs?
A: No, not this year. The last couple of years I've tried to provide CAPs via
the guide, but it always got a little awkward as the CAPs were handled by
other people who updated their list via their own site. That's why this year
I've skipped a CAP section entirely.
*************
Q: What's the deal with OOR and RETIRED players?
A: Those two classes of players are tagged for a specific reason: they are
for one reason or another, out of the NHL. Retired players are obviously
not going to play again, while OOR players means that the player is signed
somewhere else in the world that is not represented in this game. That could
mean that they are in:
-Any European league other than the 4 that are in the game (German DEL,
Finnish SM-Liiga, Swedish Elitserien, and the new-to-this-year's-game Czech
Extraliga)
-A team from one of those leagues that was not present last year (Most leagues
in major European hockey countries run a relegation system whereby the worst
team or two from the top league face the possibility of being demoted to the
second league, while the best team or two from the second tier league can
qualify to move up into the elite league for the next season. Most european
football [soccer] leagues do the same thing. However, since EA uses Elite
League rosters from the previous year (05-06 in this case) teams that were
promoted or relegated for the current season won't be there.)
-A team in the Swiss league other than HC Davos, which seems to have a deal
with EA to be featured in the game
-A minor pro team in North America, on a contract not associated with an NHL
club. This can even mean that players sign with teams that are the AHL or ECHL
affiliates of an NHL club, but if the contract is not with the parent club,
they are not property of the NHL team.
For more on how to deal with OOR and Retired players, check the section on
how to use this guide a little farther down.
*************
Q: Ok, so I get the OOR thing, but what's with "*Rights retained"?
A: Another class of players playing OOR or in an elite league this year. They
are often Restricted Free Agents (RFAs) trying to work out a contract with the
NHL club that owns their rights, but have signed in Europe in case the deal is
not finished. Players whose rights are retained by a team are not on the
roster, but can still be traded, signed, or released by their rights-holding
NHL club. The tricky part is that if they are on their NHL team, most of the
time they will get playing time via the CPU in a dynasty. So your choice is
simple:
1) If you want to make sure that the players do not play on their teams, move
them OOR. The disadvantage here is that they will never return and cannot be
traded or relased like they could in reality.
2) Keep them on their rights-holding club. The advantage is that they will be
tradable assets for any club that has them. The disadvantage is that they may
get into the lineup when they realistically wouldn't.
*************
Q: Can you send me a max-drive/Sharkport file with the rosters, or upload them
to the EA Sports locker? What about sending you my memory card?
A: No on all accounts. I don't have a device to transfer my save files to or
from my PS2 and PC. Also, I am not online capable with my PS2, so I cannot
upload the file. Also, I don't advise anyone to use the services of someone
who promises to fix your rosters for a price. Most of the time they want $20
or more, and can take several weeks to finish the process and mail it to you.
Can you honestly say that you'd rather pay $20+ and wait several days instead
of buckling down for an hour or two and doing it yourself?
===============================================================================
Section 3: How this guide works [03HGW]
===============================================================================
OK, you've made it past the initial stuff and you want to know how to use my
guide to make your rosters up to date. Well, here we go.
First off, if even if you've used my guides in previous years, I suggest you
at least skim this section. I have overhauled the way in which I list moves
simply because I found my old additions/subtractions list to be redundant. I
would often make a move in the subtractions list, then forget to change it in
the corresponding additions section, which could be confusing to some people.
Therefore, now all my transactions are listed only by subtraction in the master
list. This will be followed by a roster of the players on that team, so that
you still have something to check for errors against. Please note that if you
are reading an early version of the guide, the rosters may not be present. I
hope to add them over time, but my first concerns are getting many of the
other important pieces done first.
The master list to which I refer is the core of this section. It will list each
and every player move that I know of which relates to in-game rosters. I will
not list pointless trades involving players not in the game, simply because
it would serve to complicate matters. If a trade is made involving some in-game
players and some non-in-game players, I will only include the players you need
to move in the game. If you plan to update your roster from the pre-programmed
default, this is the list which you will need.
The master list is structured fairly simply:
1) it is broken down into 37 sections. One for each of the 30 NHL teams, one
for the free agency list, one for the international rosters (see below), and
one for each of the 4 elite leagues.The final list (which is, ironically, the
first one) has a list of all the fake players (EA staff people) that one the
free agent list.
2) Any player moving from its default roster team is listed with the name of
the destination team in brackets after it. Example: If Wayne Gretzky was on
Edmonton in the default rosters, and you needed to trade him to Los Angeles, it
would look like this:
******************
Edmonton Oilers
******************
Wayne Gretzky (Los Angeles)
Players moving to the elite league teams will have the league listed, followed
by the team. Say, for example, that Vancouver's Markus Naslund decides to
retire from the NHL, return to Sweden, and play for his hometown team of MoDo
in the Elitserien (Swedish Elite League):
*******************
Vancouver Canucks
*******************
Markus Naslund (Elitserien - MoDo)
3) Players on the master list are always recorded as moving from their default
roster team to their latest team. Therefore, if a player is moved multiple
times between the default roster and the latest guide update, the master list
will ignore all points in between the origin team and the current team.
Example: As in point 2, you need to trade Wayne Gretzky off of Edmonton. Only
this time Wayne is now playing for the NY Rangers after stops in Los Angeles
and St. Louis. The list would now read:
*****************
Edmonton Oilers
*****************
Wayne Gretzky (NY Rangers)
Does this make sense? Since you only need to get the right players on the right
team, there's no real point to moving Gretzky from Edmonton to LA to St. Louis
and then to the Rangers. All you would need to do is move Gretzky from Edmonton
to the Rangers. Other players involved in those trades would be moved in other
teams as necessary.
Now, every year there are a few transactions that require you to take players
from international teams and from the 4 elite leagues. These will have
their own section at the bottom of the master list. For each transaction, the
notation is a little different, because it involves multiple teams. To that
end, all transactions will be written as <TEAM> - <PLAYER> (DESTINATION)
Example:
Assume that former NHLer Alexander Selivanov, currently playing for Krefeld in
the German Elite League (DEL) decides to return to the NHL and play for the
New York Islanders. That transaction would look like:
****
DEL
****
Krefeld - Alexander Selivanov (NY Islanders)
The other part of the NHL section that is important are the update lists. These
will be posted with every update of the guide to show what moves have happened
between the last update and the current update. These trades will also be
reflected in the master list, but the idea with update lists is that they
are faster for finding what you need to change, and also these lists can
relfect each step in a player's movement if he changes teams several times.
The update lists are not written the same way as the master list. Instead, they
are shown as brief phrases detailing the move. Player names are written in
ALL CAPS to highlight them.
Example:
Back to the Gretzky deal. Let's say that in version 1.0 of the guide Wayne is
moved from Edmonton to LA. By the version 1.1 update, he has been traded to
St. Louis, and by version 1.2 the offseason has passed and Wayne has had his
free agency and signed with the Rangers. The guid would look like:
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
VERSION 1.2 updates
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-WAYNE GRETZKY, formerly with the St. Louis Blues, has signed with the New York
Rangers.
.
.
.
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
VERSION 1.1 updates
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-Los Angeles trades WAYNE GRETZKY to St. Louis for ROMAN VOPAT, PATRICE TARDIF,
and CRAIG JOHNSON (NOTE: In reality, there were draft picks involved, but I
don't list them since it doesn't affect the game)
.
.
.
.
********************
Master List
********************
.
.
.
*****************
Edmonton Oilers
*****************
Wayne Gretzky (NY Rangers)
It's probably difficult to explain in this context, so all you need to know is
that if you are starting with the default roster, you need to use the Master
List. If you are updating a roster that has already been changed using this
guide before, you'll want to use the version updates that were added after
the last time you used the guide. Remember though, I do not deal with online
updates. If you have downloaded an EA roster update, things may or may not
reflect what I have listed.
A NOTE ON SOME OF MY ABBREVIATIONS AND SPECIAL NOTATIONS
--------------------------------------------------------
At times you will see some funny notations and whatnot in the roster lists.
Here's a list of what you might see and need to know about:
1) OOR - OOR stands for "off of rosters". I use this to denote players who are
signed to teams not in the game (basically teams in elite leagues aside from
Elitserien, SM-Liiga, Czech Extraliga or DEL. The exception is that since the
game uses last year's Elite League setup, it's possible that there will be
teams missing from those leagues and teams which are present that were demoted
to lower leagues.) An example here would be Radoslav Suchy, who signed in
Switzerland. The catch here is that most of these signings tend to have escape
clauses which will allow them to return to the NHL if they want. I will do my
best to note when such a clause exists. In those cases, you may want to make
the players Free Agents for the purposes of dynasty mode. Otherwise, I advise
you to shift OOR players to inconsequential teams like the international
teams which have fake players (England, France, Japan, etc), or to create a
team and trade those players to the created team. See below for an explanation
of how to do that.
2) RETIRED - Duh, the player retired from the NHL. Probably you'll want to
stash these players wherever you put your OOR players.
3) Rights - From time to time I might note after a player who is moving to
an elite league team or OOR the phrase *Rights retained*. What this means is
that even though the player is signing with another team, he is doing it while
still property of an NHL team. A good example is someone like Nikolai Zherdev.
As I write this explanation, he is unsigned by Columbus and planning to play
in Russia. However, as a Restricted Free Agent (group II), his NHL playing
rights remain with the Blue Jackets, and in order to return to the NHL anywhere
but Columbus, his rights would have to be released or traded. I will write this
notation one of two ways. If I simply put *Rights retained* it means that his
rights belong to whatever team he is currently with. If I write "Rights
retained by __________" it means that the player or his rights have been traded
to a different NHL team since the game's default rosters were set. In those
cases you should either move said player to an OOR area, or trade them to the
rights-holding team.
USING CREATED TEAMS TO DUPLICATE PLAYERS AND STORE EXTRA PLAYERS.
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Here's a handy trick I used in past games to do two important things:
1) You can duplicate players. This is useful for fixing international teams
where you need to put a new player on the team without removing him from
his regular team.
2) You can store players who are OOR on these teams and keep them out of the
way from the NHL, elite leagues, and even international clubs.
How you do it:
a) Create a team, stock it with the minuimum number of players. This is 18
skaters and 2 goaltenders. If you want to duplicate players, be sure to put
the players you want to duplicate onto the team in this step.
b) Exit the create team mode and go to roster management.
c) Trade the OOR players to your created team. Created teams are their own
league, and are listed alphabetically by name.
d) If you are duplicating players, trade the duplicates from the created team
to the destination team (remember, you cannot have two copies of the same
player on the same team)
e) Once you have loaded enough players onto the created team in step C, return
to the create team mode and load the team you are using.
f) Remove the players you added to the team in step A. Make sure you don't
remove anyone from step C, otherwise they'll return to their original team.
If you can't remove enough players (ie you'll drop below 18 skaters and 2
goalies), just take away what you can. Because of this, I recommend you use
recognizable names to stock your team, that way you can sort them out from the
OORs you're adding.
g) repeat steps b through f as much as necessary.

-Detroit had signed JOSH LANGFELD some time ago. I kept forgetting to add
this one.
-Atlanta acquires ERIC BELANGER from Nashville for defenceman VITALI
VISHNEVSKI. Previous to this, the Predators had acquired Belanger from
Carolina in exchange for JOSEF VASICEK. What this amounts to is:
To Carolina: Josef Vasicek (from Nashville)
To Atlanta: Eric Belanger (from Carolina)
to Nashville: Vitali Vishnevski (from Atlanta)
-Atlanta also claims forward DENIS HAMEL off waivers from Ottawa.
-Free agent ZDENEK BLATNY has signed in with MoDo of the Elitserien.
-Free agent goaltender MAXIME OUELLET has signed with Kassel of the DEL.
-St. Louis acquires forward YAN STASTNY from Boston for a draft pick.
-Los Angeles claims goaltender SEAN BURKE off waivers from Tampa Bay.
-Anaheim defenceman IAN MORAN has signed to play in Germany for Berlin.
I believe he will remain property of Anaheim for the duration of his NHL
contract.
-Anaheim acquires JOE MOTZKO and MARK HARTIGAN from Columbus for ZENON
KONOPKA and draft picks.
-Nashville trades SHANE ENDICOTT to Anaheim for not-in-game prospect Chris
Durno.
-Calgary acquires CRAIG CONROY from the Kings for JAMIE LUNDMARK.
-Free agent PAT KAVANAGH has signed with HV-71 of the Elitserien.
-Washington acquires MILAN JURCINA from the Bruins for a draft pick.
-Atlanta trades KYLE WANVIG to Tampa Bay for ANDY DELMORE (there are others
in the deal, but they aren't in the game.)
-Boston acquires BRANDON BOCHENSKI from the Blackhawks for not-in-game
prospect Kris Versteeg.
-the New York Rangers trade JASON WARD (and prospects) to Los Angeles for
SEAN AVERY (and prospects)
-Minnesota acquires ADAM HALL from the Rangers for PASCAL DUPUIS
-Can't believe I almost missed this one: Phoenix traded MIKE COMRIE to
the Senators for not-in-game prospect Alexei Kaigorodov
!!!!!!!!!!!
Version 1.4
!!!!!!!!!!!
-Phoenix claims JOEL PERRAULT back off waivers from St. Louis
-Toronto trades goaltender MIKAEL TELLQVIST to Phoenix for forward TYSON NASH
-Detroit forward KRYS KOLANOS has moved OOR to the Swiss league (although I
believe he may still be Detroit property. It's the same situation as Lasse
Pirjeta went through last year with Pittsburgh)
-Philadelphia forward BRAD TAPPER has returned to Hannover of the DEL.
-Carolina trades defenceman DERRICK WALSER to Columbus for not-in-game minor
leaguer Mark Flood
-St. Louis' MAGNUS KAHNBERG has returned to Frolunda of Elitserien
-NY Isle's prospect JOHAN HALVARDSSON has returned to HV-71 of Elitserien
-NY Islanders defenceman TOMMI PETTINEN sighs with Leksands of Elitserien
-Columbus assigns JAROSLAV BALASTIK to HV-71 of the Elitserien
-NOTE: Kahnberg, Halvardsson, Pettinen and Balastik all remain
property of their NHL clubs.
-Tampa bay claims forward ANDRE ROY off waivers from Pittsburgh
-Flordia forward JOE NIEUWENDYK retires due to chronic back problems.
-Chicago signs free agent forward PETER BONDRA
-Philadelphia trades defenceman FREDDY MEYER to the Islanders for defenceman
ALEXEI ZHITNIK
-In another deal, the Flyers acquire MIKE YORK from the Isles for RANDY
ROBITIALLE
-St. Louis Blues prospect MAREK SCHWARZ has been recalled from Sparta of
the Czech Extraliga to play in Peoria of the AHL (after a brief 1-game debut
for the Blues)
-San Jose trades minor league defenceman MATHEIU BIRON to Montreal for fellow
minor-leaguer PATRICK TRAVERSE
-Pittsburgh outright releases JOHN LECLAIR, making him a free agent.
-Washington forward PETR TATICEK signs with HC Davos (in the custom teams
section)
-Former Buffalo defenceman JAMES PATRICK, previously moved to Frankfurt of the
DEL, has retired and joined the Sabres coaching staff.
-Some current free agents are playing in a variety of leagues. I will leave
anyone playing in the AHL or ECHL as a free agent, since they are fairly
easily signed and brought into an organization. However, all of the following
are playing either in a far lower tier minor-pro league, or in Europe, where
they are unlikely to be signed by an NHL club:
-Alexander Khavanov (HC Davos - custom team)
-Jason Woolley (Elitserien - Malmo)
-Todd Simpson (DEL - Hannover)
-Jeremy Stevenson (OOR - Quebec minor-pro league [LNAH])
-Paul Healey (SM-Liiga - Assat)
-Martin Prusek (OOR - Russian League - St. Petersburg)
-Jani Rita (SM-Liiga - Jokerit) [NOTE: I can't seem to find him in my game]
-Alexander Karpotsev (OOR - Russian League - Novosibirsk)
-Cole Jarrett (DEL - Berlin)
-Pat Kavanagh (SM-Liiga - SaIpa)
-Ryan Ready (DEL - Iserlohn)
-Oleg Kvasha (OOR - Russian Leauge - Chekov Vityaz)
-Guillaume Lefebvre (OOR - LNAH)
!!!!!!!!!!!
Version 1.3
!!!!!!!!!!!
-Free Agent PIERRE DAGENAIS signed with Jokerit of SM-Liiga
-New York Islanders acquire ERIC BOGUNIECKI from the Columbus Blue Jackets in
exchange for RYAN CALDWELL.
-Buffalo defenceman JEFF JILLSON signed to play with Berlin of the DEL.
-Pittsburgh's KARL STEWART is claimed off waivers by Chicago.
-Toronto prospect JIRI TLUSTY is no longer playing with the AHL Marlies. He
has been returned to the OHL Sault St. Marie Greyhounds, as per an agreement
amongst the Leafs, the OHL and Tlusty's old Czech team in Kladno. This makes
Jiri OOR, although you could just move him back to Kladno. Regardless, he
CANNOT return to the NHL or AHL this season, until at least the playoffs.
-Free Agent CLARKE WILM signed with Jokerit of SM-Liiga
-Phoenix signs free agent forward YANNIC PERREAULT
-OOR d-man TOMAS KLOUCEK is not OOR as I thought. He's still with Syracuse of
the AHL. Return him to the Columbus roster.
-Dallas prospect MATT NICKERSON has returned from Assat of SM-Liiga to play
for the Stars' AHL team in IOWA.
-Free Agent defenceman IGOR ULANOV is OOR after signing with Yaroslavl of the
Russian league.
-Phoenix forward JOEL PEREAULT was claimed off waivers by St. Louis.
-Islanders' prospects JOHAN HALVARDSSON (HV-71) and FRANS NIELSEN (Timra), both
of the Elitserien, are playing for the Isle's AHL team in Bridgeport.
-New Jersey signs free agent forward JIM DOWD.
-St. Louis DENIS PEDERSON, has retired from the NHL and returned to Berlin of
the DEL.
-New York Islanders forward SEAN BERGENHEIM signed with Frolunda of the
Elitserien.
-RICO FATA has allegedly left Washington to sign with Berlin of the DEL. I
can't confirm this one right now.
-Tampa Bay trades DARREN REID to Philadelphia for DANIEL CORSO. Corso is
currently on Frankfurt of the DEL.
-Los Angeles claims MARTY MURRAY off waivers from Philadelphia.
-In two separate deals, Anaheim trades TODD FEDORUK to Philadelphia and
acquires GEORGE PARROS from Colorado in deals involving draft picks. The Ducks
also traded Stanislav Chistov to Boston, but Chistov is not in the game except
via CAP
-Boston acquires goalie PHIL SAUVE from Phoenix for not-in-game prospect Tyler
Redenbach.
-New York Rangers acquire forward BRAD ISBISTER from Columbus for not-in-game
prospect Jakub Petruzalek
!!!!!!!!!!!
Version 1.2
!!!!!!!!!!!
-Toronto signs free agent BOYD DEVEREAUX
-New Jersey signs forward DAN LACOUTURE and assigns him to Albany of the AHL.
-Columbus never retained JAN HRDINA. He's signed a contract this year with
HV-71 of the Elitserien. I should've caught this one sooner.
-Columbus also loses TOMAS KLOUCEK to OOR, as he signed with a team from the
Czech Republic that's not in the game (HC Benatky nad Jizerou). However, the
Blue Jackets retain his rights.
-ZENON KONOPKA is no longer OOR. He has returned to North America to play for
Anaheim's AHL affiliate in Portland.
-It turns out that MATT NICKERSON is apparantly not playing in North America
for Dallas. I guess you should return him to Assat of SM-Liiga then. However,
JOEL LUNDQVIST from the Elitserien team Frolunda is playing for the Stars' AHL
club in Iowa, so move him over. In case you were wondering, this Lundqvist is
the twin brother of Rangers goalie Henrik Lundqvist.
-JOHNNY ODUYA from Frolunda of the Elitserien is playing with New Jersey. Right
now it seems that he is a fill in until some of the NJ regulars get back into
the lineup, but he should still be on the team.
!!!!!!!!!!!
Version 1.1
!!!!!!!!!!!
-Several retirements: SCOTT YOUNG (Free Agents) TIE DOMI (Free Agents), BRIAN
SAVAGE (Free Agents), DARREN LANGDON (Free Agents), & STEVE KONOWALCHUK
(Colorado)
-Vancouver claims goalie DANNY SABOURIN off waivers from Pittsburgh
-San Jose acquires VLADIMIR MALAKHOV from New Jersey for JIM FAHEY and
Alexander Korolyuk (Malakhov is likely never going to play again, and the true
piece of the puzzle for San Jose was the 1st round draft pick they got, but you
can't do that in the game)
-Chicago's MILAN BARTOVIC signed with Malmo of the Elitserien. He is no longer
Hawks property. Malmo is not in the game, so Bartovic goes OOR.
-Chicago signs free agent JEFF HAMILTON
-Pittsburgh claims CHRIS THORBURN off waivers from Buffalo
-Colorado claims GEORGE PARROS off waivers from Los Angeles
-NY Islanders sign free agent RICHARD PARK
-St. Louis signs DENIS PEDERSON from Berlin of the DEL and assigns him to the
AHL
-Montreal trades MIKE RIBEIRO to Dallas for JANNE NIINIMAA
-Montreal claims PATRICK TRAVERSE on waivers from San Jose
-Pittsburgh claims KARL STEWART off waivers from Anaheim
-NY Islanders sign Free Agent goalie MIKE DUNHAM
-Columbus reached an agreement on a new contract with NIKOLAI ZHERDEV. He is
no longer OOR and can be returned to the Blue Jackets (if you moved him in the
first place)
-Carolina trades OLEG TVERDOVSKY and Jack Johnson (not in the game) to LA for
ERIC BELANGER and TIM GLEASON.
-Chicago signed BRIAN BOUCHER.
-Free Agent AARON GAVEY signs with Koln of the DEL
-I screwed up in the non-NHL section, listing DERRICK WALSER to Columbus. He
actually is with Carolina.
NON-NHL Subtractions changes!!
-I messed up a handful of NON-NHL changes in version 1.0. The following
changes need to be made:
-PATRICK EHELECHNER has been returned to Duisburg by Pittsburgh.
-LASSE KUKKONEN is on the Finnish national team, not Karpat
-Johan Holmqvist is not in the game anywhere.
And some players have been added:
-Andy Hedlund (DEL - Krefeld) was assigned to Ottawa's AHL affiliate Binghamton
Senators
-Jiri Tlusty (Extraliga - Kladno) was assigned to Toronto's AHL affiliate
Toronto Marlies
-Tomas Harant (Extraliga - Budejovice) was assigned to New Jersey's AHL
affiliate Lowell Devils
-Yannick Tremblay (DEL - Mannheim) was assigned to Vancouvers AHL affiliate
Manitoba Moose.
-Jason Krog (Elitserien - Frolunda) was assigned to Atlanta's AHL affiliate
Chicago Wolves
-Matt Nickerson (Assat - SM-Liiga) should be playing for Dallas' AHL affiliate
Iowa Stars
-Karri Ramo (SM-Liiga - HPK) was assigned to Tampa Bay's AHL affiliate
Springfield Falcons

AHL All-Stars
-------------
Note, normal format is Canadians versus the rest of the world, but
there aren't enough of each side to make two teams. Therefore this
is one team for both sides.
NOTE: There aren't enough players to make an entire team
(only 9 forwards, 4 defencemen, and 4 goalies), but you could
use them as the basis for a team.
All players are listed as NHL Team/AHL Team)

NHL JERSEY NUMBER CHANGES [04d]
***********************************************
This list was compiled by NewRockEdge aka Andrew from the GameFAQs
message boards. He has asked me to make sure to remind everyone that you
cannot change players' jersey numbers while they are in the minors, so make
sure that you change anyone who needs to have their jersey changed from
"minors" to "scratched" in the Minor League management screen.
Also, please note that some of these numbers are based on pre-season games,
which means that they are not all set in stone. Especially some younger
players may get different numbers once they make the NHL full-time.

WORLD JUNIOR PLAYERS
--------------------
It's christmas time, so that means that the World Junior Hockey Championships
are upon us (starting on December 26th with a double-header of USA/Germany
and Canada/Sweden on TSN). Although no NHL teams are sending players off of
their rosters to the tournament, the elite leagues mean that we can have a
handful of European players who are in the elite leagues. Here's a list of
who's available.
Currently, only players from the four countries whose leagues are represented
in the game (Czech Republic, Finland, Germany, and Sweden) are in the game.
Canada and the USA have no players since none of the attendees has NHL
experience prior to this year. Russia, Belarus, and Switzerland have no
players since most of their juniors either play in that country's own pro
league or come to Canada to play CHL Junior hockey. Slovakia has some players
present in the Czech league, but not as of last year when the game's rosters
were finalized.
TOTAL WJC PLAYERS FOUND: 52
CZECH: 9 (4=D, 5=F)
FINNISH: 13 (1=G, 5=D, 7=F)
GERMAN: 20 (3=G, 5=D, 12=F
SWEDISH: 10 (2=D, 8=F)
Czech Republic (all are in Extraliga unless otherwise noted)

Prospect list [06a]
Players of Interest [06b]
---------------------------
Part 1: Prospect list [06a]
---------------------------
Returning from last year, this prospect list shows you all the players in the
4 elite leagues who are prospects of the 30 NHL clubs.
The rules are the same as last year:
1) Only players listed as prospects on the Hockey's Future lists for each club
are included. Those lists comprise the top 20 prospects for each organization
as decided by the writers of HF, as well as up to 10 or 15 "notable" players
who do not make the top 20.
2) I include my probability key once again. If you need a refresher:
NHL/AHL: These players are likely to be the ones listed at the end of section 3
They are players who are already over in North America either in the NHL or
playing for their clubs' AHL affiliates. Examples include Thomas Greiss (San
Jose) and Anze Kopitar (Los Angeles).
Lock: These players are virtual certainties to make their NHL clubs in the
future. Examples include Jiri Tlusty (Toronto), and Tuuka Rask (Boston).
High: These plaeyrs are more than likely to make it to the NHL in the future,
but could conceivably not improve enough or decide to remain in Europe.
Medium: These players could go either way. Either they could come to the NHL,
more than likely in a lesser role, or they might stay in Europe.
Low: These players are more than likely not going to play in the NHL during
their careers. They might be draft busts, low end picks, or players who prefer
to remain at home.
Longshot: The odds are hugely stacked against these players making the trip
across the pond. Basically, I probably wouldn't have listed them here if not
for the sake of completeness.
NOTE: Please remember that these ratings are purely indicative of how likely
a player is to come over to the NHL or AHL during their careers. It IS NOT a
list of potential. Please, DO NOT e-mail me saying that so-and-so is a high
end prospect and got the same rating as so-and-so2 who is a lesser prospect.
Also remember that why I say "indicative of how likely", I mean that it is my
opinion of how likely. I base my judgement on the position of the player,
their development to this point, how high the organization seems to be on them,
and factors like that. However, I do not know all things about all prospects,
so there are bound to be some assessments that you do not agree with. If that
is the case, please contact me and maybe we can come to some sort of consensus
on what should be a more fitting probability.
Remember the 4 elite leagues are:
Elitserien: Sweden
SM-Liiga: Finland
DEL: Germany
Extraliga: Czech Republic

Tuomas Mikkonen [LW] (SM-Liiga - JYP) *Low*
Lukas Vomela [D] (Extraliga - Budejovice) *Medium*
NOTES: 1) Elias Granath's position is wrong. He's actually a defenceman, not
a center.
2) For the sake of clarity, this Jarkko Immonen is NOT the same Jarkko Immonen
that the Leafs traded to the Rangers in the Brian Leetch deal. This Immonen's
name has been spelled "Jarrko" at times to make him different, or he also goes
by Jarkko A. Immonen. The game does neither, but he's still definately the
Dallas prospect and not the Rangers one (who is already on the Rangers' roster)
Detroit

Jonathan Ericsson [D] (Elitserien - Sodertalje) *Medium*
Mikael Johansson [C] (Elitserien - Farjestad) *Medium*
Christofer Lofberg [LW] (Elitserien - Djurgarden) *Low*
Notes:
1) Anton Axelsson (P-J Axelsson's little brother, if you were wondering) is
not a defenceman, but a forward. I think he's a natural LW.
2) There are two M. Johanssons on Farjestad. Mikael is the first one, who is
also the lower rated one. The second one is Mattias Johansson, who's in his 30s

Players of interest [06b]
-------------------------
In my travels around the elite leagues looking for prospects, I came across
many players that made me exclaim "hey, I remember that guy!". Then after
playing a few games with elite league teams, I found some players who were
really fun to use, and even a few more that just had great hockey names.
With that in mind, I present a list of "players of interest". This list is
categorized by team and league, and each player has a brief explanation of why
I felt they should make this list. Enjoy!
Please note that players who make either the Non-NHL transactions list in
section 4 or the Prospects list that immediately preceeds this ARE NOT going to
be on this list.
-------------------
Elitserien (Sweden)
-------------------
------
Brynas
------
Andreas Dackell - Former NHLer who played in Ottawa and Montreal from 96-04
----------
Djurgarden
----------
Jimmy Olvestad - 2-year guy for Tampa Bay from 01-03. Also notable as a piece
of the deal that got the Sedins to Vancouver (the Canucks dealt the picks used
on Olvestad and Pavel Brendl to Tampa Bay for a low round pick and the first
overall pick, which the Canucks then flipped to Atlanta so they could take
Patrik Stefan)
---------
Farjestad
---------
Jorgen Jonsson - One year man in the NHL with the Isles and Ducks, older
brother of former Islander Kenny Jonsson
Jonas Hoglund - Ex-NHLer best remembered for his time in Toronto where he was
a favorite whipping boy and a poster child for the way Toronto surrounded Mats
Sundin with inferior linemates and used their inflated stats as validation.
Nikos Tselios - One of Carolina's many fine 1st round flops. Picked 22nd
overall in the 97 draft, he managed just 2 NHL games in 8 years before bolting
for Europe. Biggest claim to fame is that he is related to Chris Chelios (I
believe they're some manner of cousins)
--------
Frolunda
--------
Tommy Kallio - An expansion-era player for Atlanta and Columbus, notching 55
points in 3 years for the Thrashers, Blue Jackets, & Flyers
Johnny Oduya - A rare specimen as a Swedish goon. Nicknamed "knuckles"
Antti-Jussi Niemi - Finnish olympian played almost 30 games in the NHL for
Anaheim. A solid offensive defenceman in this game.
Tommy Salo - Ex-NHLer probably still has nightmares about Vladimir Kopat's goal
in the 02 Olympics that ousted Sweden.
-----
HV-71
-----
Fredrik Olausson - Veteran Swedish defender was a stalwart of the Winnipeg Jets
bluelines of the late 80s and early 90s.
Jens Karlsson - LA Kings flop first rounder in 2001 (18th overall)
Peter Hammarstrom - I find it hard not to like this name. Would be great if he
was a big power forward.
-------
Leksand
-------
Jiri Bicek - Long-time shuttle guy (player who bounced between the NHL and AHL)
for New Jersey. Was there to win the cup
Jarrod Skalde - 1989 draftee played for more than 10 NHL clubs and many more
minor league teams.
Pavel Trnka - Butt of many "can I buy a vowel?" jokes logged 400 NHL games for
Anaheim & Florida
Jan Golubovsky - A first round flop for the Red Wings, played 50 games for the
Wings before a brief stop in Florida.
Tomas Duba - Czech goalie in Sweden is a rarity. A former Pens draft pick, he
was the number 1 European goalie according to pre-draft rankings for 2001.
---------
Linkoping
---------
Martin Samuelsson - Boston 1st rounder perpetually gets chances in the NHL and
can't seem to harness them.
-----
Lulea
-----
Lubos Bartecko - Free agent signee of St. Louis in 98-99, Bartecko still plays
for the Slovakian national squad.
Jaroslav Obsut - One of the last Jets draft picks (quite literally. he was the
8th rounder in 1995, their last official draft before becoming the Coyotes),
Obsut bounced around as a minor league depth guy for a number of clubs
----
MoDo
----
Mattias Timander - Over 400 games at the NHL level, Timander was a long time
mid-low pairing d-man for several clubs.
Mattias Hellstrom - 1986 born winger would've been draft eligible in 04. You
can't tell me that he doesn't have a sweet hockey name.
Karol Krizan - Slovakian goalie was part of his country's Olympic effort.
----
Mora
----
Ross Lupaschuk - Former Penguins prospect couldn't make the NHL. Was part of
the Jaromir Jagr trade (went to Pittsburgh with Kris Beech and Michal Sivek)
Haken Bogg - Listed for no other reason than his name reminds me of Haken Loob.
----------
Sodertalje
----------
Miroslav Zalesak - Former Sharks farmhand was always expected to take the next
step and never could.
Stanislav Neckar - One of the most mispronounced names of all time (would you
have guessed his last name is "nets-cash"?) was a hard-working defender for
over 500 games.
Rastislav Stana - Goalie was once Olaf Kolzig's understudy in Washington. I
was surprised to find that he only played 6 games in the bigs.
Tony Tuzzolino - Only player in NHL 06 and this game who was an actual part of
Italy's olympic hockey team at the Turin olympics.
-----
Timra
-----
Kent Manderville - Durable grinder played almost 650 NHL games. I believe he
now coaches hockey in Austraila.
------------------
SM-Liiga (Finland)
------------------
-----
Blues
-----
Steve Kariya - Paul's little brother never got past his brief stint with the
Canucks
Ladislav Kohn - Expected to be a decent offensive contributor in the NHL, Kohn
had a disappointing 186 games for 6 clubs.
Teemu Riihijarvi - For my money the only completely busted 1st round pick in
San Jose Sharks draft history (taken 12th overall in 95 ahead of the likes of
J-S Giguere and Petr Sykora [the good one])
----
HIFK
----
Jere Karalahti - Solid NHL D-man had his career derailed by alcohol problems.
---
HPK
---
Kaspars Astashenko - didn't even make it to 25 NHL games, but there's always
been something about him that I liked in the EA video games.
-----
Ilves
-----
Raimo Helminen - One of Finland's most celebrated and successful players,
Helminen has played in 4 Olympic games (1984, 1988, 1994, & 1998). Was once
a 2nd round pick of the New York Rangers in the 1984 NHL Entry draft.
Jyrki Lumme - Stalwart defender for years on the Vancouver Canucks. Has a
ridiculous potential rating in the 90s for someone who's over 40 years old.
Vesa Viitakoski - Was a part of the trade between Calgary and New Jersey that
landed the Devils the pick they used on Martin Brodeur. He was also the subject
of a hilarious bit on TSN (Canada's ESPN equivalent) poking fun at another
minor deal he was involved in that they allege propelled the Avs to their first
Stanley Cup, despite the fact that Viitakoski never played a game for Colorado.
Mike Wilson - First round flop of the Vancouver Canucks (20th overall in 1993)
-------
Jokerit
-------
Steve Passmore - Long time NHL backup for several teams, notably Chicago
Roman Vopat - Was once traded 3 times in less than 2 months. Before that he
was a piece of the trade that sent Wayne Gretzky from Los Angeles to St. Louis.
---
JYP
---
Jesse Niinimaki - First round selection of Edmonton. His pick was completely
off the board. In the end criticism of the selection was justified as Niinimaki
had a falling out with Oilers management and it appears no NHL career will
ever materialze for him.
-----
Kalpa
-----
Kimmo Kapanen - Sammi Kapanen's younger brother.
------
Karpat
------
Tommi Paakkolanvaara - That's a lot of "a"s in his name...
-----
Lukko
-----
Scott Langkow - Former NHL depth goalie is the brother of Flames forward
Daymond Lankow
--------
Pelicans
--------
None
-----
SaiPa
-----
Kristian Kudroc - Towering defenceman never found his game in the NHL. Was once
a 1st round pick of the Isles.
-------
Tappara
-------
None
---
TPS
---
Greg Hawgood - Offensive defenceman skated many clubs in his NHL career.
Ivan Huml - Former Bruins prospect played for my hometown Jr. B team, the
Langley Thunder (later renamed the Langley Hornets)
Marko Kiprusoff - Miikka's big brother.
-------------
DEL (Germany)
-------------
--------
Augsburg
--------
None
------
Berlin
------
Florian Busch - was skipped over in his draft year, but has been a solid
contributor to German junior squads.
Christoph Gawlik - Was a potential 1st rounder in 05 until a shoulder injury
forced him to withdraw from the draft. Went undrafted last year as well. Could
be an overage steal for any team that's willing to pick him up.
Deron Quint - Long time NHL defenceman was on the Jets for their final year in
Winnipeg
Youri Ziffzer - Talented young netminder was often Thomas Greiss' partner in
net for World Junior tournaments
--------
Duisburg
--------
Jean-Luc Grand-Pierre - Couldn't hold down a job in the NHL, but has a great
hockey name, especially for an imposing physical defenceman.
Trond Magnussen - Random cool name.
----------
Dusseldorf
----------
Peter & Chris Ferraro - Long time minor leaguer twin brothers could never stick
in the NHL, but have almost always played together.
Daniel Kreutzer - Offensive cog in German national teams.
Tore Vikingstad - Another random and interesting name. Was once a prospect for
St. Louis
---------
Frankfurt
---------
Nikolei Goc - Youngest of the Goc brothers (middle brother Marcel plays for San
Jose, eldest brother Sascha was once on the New Jersey Devils).
Steve Kelly - 1st round flop of Edmonton in 1995 (6th overall). Will always be
known as the guy the Oilers passed on popular Albertan players Shane Doan and
Jarome Iginla for.
Patrick Lebeau - Led the DEL in scoring during the lockout.
James Patrick - Longtime d-man in Buffalo came out of retirement to play in
Germany.
Martin Reichel - Robert Reichel's brother creates international intrigue in his
family when he represents Germany against Robert and the Czech Republic.
Andrej Strakhov - Sounds like a good Russian hockey name.
-------
Hamburg
-------
Roman Chechmanek - Remember him? Now he's taken his questionable conditioning
and mental state to Germany.
Francois Fortier - Was a contestant on the hockey reality show "Making The Cut"
during its first season on CBC.
--------
Hannover
--------
Sascha Goc - Oldest Goc brother (see Nikolei for more info)
Dominik Hammer - Do I even need to say anything? If that's not a great hockey
name I don't know what is...
Trevor Kidd - Former 1st rounder, most recently remembered as a questionable
backup in Toronto.
Cameron Mann - Former Bruin & Predator was once considered a decent prospect.
Yannic Seidenberg - Younger brother of Phoenix's Dennis Sedienberg. Went
undrafted.
Jimmy Waite - the 8th overall selection of the 87 draft, Waite was supposed to
be Chicago's saviour in net. Then Waite struggled and the Hawks got some guy
named Belfour....
--------
Iserlohn
--------
Alexej Dmitriev - Another good Russian name.
Matt Higgins - Montreal draft pick was the polar opposite of the unrelated
Chris Higgins. This one flopped while Chris skyrocketed up the Habs prospect
list.
------
Kassel
------
None
-------
Krefeld
-------
Ted Drury - Older brother of Chris had some time in the NHL, but never stood
out.
Alexander Selivanov - You know how much Phil Esposito used to rant about
Russians, especially during the Summit Series? Meet his son-in-law. Selivanov
also spent time in several NHL cities. He was also a good performer for me
in NHL 99 and 06.
----
Koln
----
Bill Lindsay - Former NHLer was a valued leader in Florida & Calgary.
Mirko Ludemann - A spectacular offensive defenceman in NHL 06. He had one of
the game's deadliest slapshots.
--------
Mannheim
--------
Fabio Carciola - Another good, young, undrafted German prospect.
Rene Corbet - Part of the trade that sent Theo Fleury to Colorado.
Markus Kink - Yet another solid but undrafted German kid.
--------
Nurnberg
--------
Robert Dome - once a talented prospect, he wore out his welcome with lacklustre
efforts and seeming disinterest.
--------------------------
Extraliga (Czech Republic)
--------------------------
----------
Budejovice
----------
Roman Turek - Former goalie for the Flames and Blues was supplanted by Miikka
Kiprusoff as he battled injuries.
Rene Vydareny - Canucks 3rd rounder slid down the prospect list until he was
shipped to Montreal for never-used enforcer Sylvain Blouin
------
Kladno
------
Jakub Voracek - 17 year old forward was a top pick in the CHL import draft,
expected to be 1st rounder in 2007 NHL draft.
-------
Liberec
-------
Milan Hnilicka - Tended the pipes during some lean years in Atlanta, still
plays internationally for the Czech Republic, but doesn't seem keen on another
NHL job.
Lubomir Viac - A late, late, late round pick of the Canucks, Viac seems to have
some sort of cult status as a player to poke fun at amongst Vancouver fans.
--------
Litvinov
--------
Robert Reichel - Solid contributor for many years in the NHL, will probably be
rememberd for some iffy seasons in Toronto. And for being traded in exchange
for Brad Isbister.
---------
Pardubice
---------
Jan Lasak - Former Preds goalie is now Slovakia's go-to netminder in
international competition.
-----
Plzen
-----
David Stich - Another young Czech primed to be a 1st rounder in the 07
draft.
------
Slavia
------
Jaroslav Bednar - Former Panther, King never seemed comfortable in the NHL,but
still played over 100 games.
Josef Beranek - Notched over 260 points in his 500 games in the NHL. A solid
mid-line player for several different teams (Vancouver, Edmonton, & Pittsburgh
among them)
Tomas Vlasak - Part-time contributor to the Czech National team, Vlasak's NHL
career never materialized after Los Angeles took him in the 3rd round in 1993.
Tomas Zizka - Former Kings prospect fell out of favor and bolted for Russia,
then the Czech Republic.
------
Sparta
------
Karel Pilar - Leafs defenceman had health problems that scared NHL clubs away,
so now he bides his time in his home country.
Michal Sivek - Like Ross Lupaschuk, Sivek was a disappointing return for the
Penguins in the Jaromir Jagr deal. With 6 points in 38 games, he returned home
during the lockout and doesn't look to come back.
Richard Stehlik - Predators 3rd rounder had promise, but went unsigned when
his rights expired in 2005.
------
Trinec
------
None
----
Vary
----
Milan Kraft - Was a Penguins 1st rounder, but all the tantalizing skill never
turned into regular NHL material.
Libor Ustrnul - The Thrasher's 2nd rounder in their inagural draft, he never
became the NHL contributor that Atlanta hoped for.
------
Vsetin
------
None
---------
Vitkovice
---------
Vladimir Vujtek - Managed to stick around for many years in EA NHL games even
though he rarely ever played in the NHL.
----
Zlin
----
Jan Benda - Key contributor to German national team efforts, not many Germans
go on to play at high professional levels in Europe outside of Germany.
Robin Kovar - The first ever player selected from the Vancouver Giants in an
NHL entry draft, his selection by Edmonton was ruled illegal because he
allegedly didn't opt into the draft that year.
------
Znojmo
------
Jiri Dopita - Was once declared the best player not in the NHL. His move to
the actual NHL never really led to anything

Position: RW
New Overall Rating: 73
Reasoning: Across-the-board tone down to make him NHL compatible. Melin was
sent down to the Portland AHL camp, so he's not making the big club right away
but he should eventually see duty as a checking line forward.

physical and agressive player EA makes him out to be.

New Overall rating: 81
Reasoning: Uhh, whose idea was it to make Tony Salmelainen into the second
coming of Mario Lemieux? Even for the Finnish league his rating was out of
whack. An 81 makes him a useful commodity on the Blackhawks without him being
the uber-player he was before. Oh, and if you're looking for me to redo Jonas
Nordqvist, I felt that the 76 was perfectly acceptable.

Fredrik Norrena
---------------
City: Jakobstad --> Pietarsaari
Weight: 187 --> 189
Year Drafted: None --> 2002
Helmet style: Default --> Custom Mask 6 (Kinda CBJ-styled, though not real.
Still, since Norrena doesn't really use the cage like EA gave him, it's
better than the original choice.)
Pads: Default --> Set 23 (I don't think it's accurate, but it's better than
default white)
Glove Low: 93 --> 84
Glove High: 94 --> 88
Stick Low: 93 --> 82
Stick High: 95 --> 86
5-Hole: 92 --> 79
Speed: 95 --> 81
Agility: 92 --> 83
Poke Check: 90 --> 79

Breakaway: 92 --> 86
Rebound Control: 92 --> 81
Shot Recovery: 90 --> 78
Intensity/Clutch: 92 --> 85
Potential: 90 --> 75
New Overall Rating: 82
Reasoning: He may be an elite goalie in Sweden, but Norrena has to be
back-up level for Columbus. This tone down still puts him miles ahead of
Columbus' 3rd stringer, Ty Conklin.
Pascal Leclaire
---------------
Weight: 185 --> 190
Glove Low: 70 --> 81
Glove High: 71 --> 84
Stick Low: 69 --> 82
Stick High: 60 --> 75
5-Hole: 70 --> 84
Speed: 88 --> 94
Agility: 89 --> 96
Poke Check: 64 --> 76
Endurance: 79 --> 83
Breakaway: 78 --> 86
Rebound Control: 70 --> 81
Shot Recovery: 85 --> 92
Intensity/Clutch: 70 --> 86
Potential: 79 --> 92
New Overall Rating: 85
Reasoning: Leclaire might not be an elite starting goalie yet, but he's not
nearly as bad as the default 74 would have you believe. I might need to
downgrade Norrena's rating now, since I don't think he's shown himself to be
an 82 yet though.

Stefan Liv
----------
Weight: 176 --> 177
Helmet Style: Default --> ITECH Jester (I'm just going for something that would
look OK with the Wings jerseys. I have no idea what Liv actually wears, and if
I did it wouldn't matter since I doubt it's in the game.
Stick: Default --> CCM (again, purely a cosmetic choice)
Pads: Default --> Set 3 (you could also go with set 9, but I like the black/red
look)
Glove Low: 82 --> 74
Glove High: 84 --> 75
Stick Low: 83 --> 71
Stick High: 83 --> 72
5-Hole: 85 --> 77
Speed: 80 --> 76
Agility: 82 --> 74

Breakaway: 82 --> 72
Rebound Control: 80 --> 77
Shot Recovery: 82 --> 76
Intensity/Clutch: 88 --> 77
Potential: 85 --> 81
New Overall Rating: 75
Reasoning: Standard ELT. Liv is the #2 guy in Grand Rapids right now, and will
probably project to be the eventual #2 guy in Detroit as well. He might be good
but I don't get the impression he's destined to be a starter.

New Overall Rating: 78
Reasoning: ELT. Peltonen's a solid player, but there's a reason he didn't stick
here in his previous go around, and he's not young enough to have made any real
strides like Tony Salmelainen did.

is supposed to be close to making the big show, and might be a solid addition
to the Panthers when he does.

NOTE: If you're looking for an Anze Kopitar re-rate, keep looking. He's an 82

Potential: 92 --> 84
Faceoffs: 70 --> 50

New Overall Rating: 75
Reasoning: A depth player for Nashville, Koistonen is in Milwaukee right now.
Some see him as a potential replacement for Kimmo Timonen down the line, but
he's got a lot of maturing to do and he doesn't come with the same fanfare as
fellow Nashville d-prospects Kevin Kline, Shea Weber, or Ryan Suter.

Aggressiveness: 75 --> 67
New Overall Rating: 76
Reasoning: ELT. I bumped up a handful of Korpikoski's stats because I think
that there were actually a few places where his inflated elite league ratings
seemed to be counterbalanced by some deflated ratings. I'll also level with
you. I absolutely love this kid. Ever since I was at the World Juniors in
Vancouver for the Finland/USA game (where Lauri practically singlehandedly
undressed the American PP unit to score a shorthanded goal on an end-to-end
rush) I've been really high on his abilities. I had liked him before then, and
had hoped that he would be around when the Sharks picked in his draft year
(he wasn't and San Jose took Lukas Kaspar instead), but that night sealed it
for me that Korpikoski has the tools to be a very solid NHLer in the future. In
fact, out of the 3 Fins that were so highly regarded in his draft (LA's Lauri
Tukonen and NYI's Petteri Nokelainen are the others) I always felt that
Korpikoski had the dark horse potential to emerge as the best of the trio. But
that's enough gushing over a single player for me.

Reasoning: ELT. One of the ones I know I might be off-base on. I don't profess
to know a lot about Hedlund except that he's 28 and not made the NHL yet, so
I don't even think he's a specialist sort of player. What especially bugs me
at this point is the role assighment of a defensive d-man. I don't know if it's
accurate or not, but I'm not going to tinker with his stats just to make that
one readout be correct when most people won't ever get to using him with guys
higher up on the food chain in Ottawa like Tomas Malec and Jamie Allison.

Reasoning: ELT. Murray has had several cracks to stick on NHL rosters and has

Thomas Greiss
-------------
Height: 6'0 --> 6'1
Weight: 176 --> 190
Year Drafted: Not Available --> 2004
Jersey #: 92 --> 1
Helmet: Default --> ITECH Black
Stick: Default --> CCM
Pads: Default --> Set 1 (In reality Greiss uses some all-black pads, but the
black set [set 7] has some stupid cat face design on them... Set 1 is the
darkest set available)
Goalie Style: Stand-up --> Butterfly (I'm not positive on this one. I think
he's more of a hybrid, but that doesn't appear to be an option.)
Glove low: 85 --> 76
Glove high: 87 --> 74
Stick low: 86 --> 77
Stick high: 86 --> 72
5-hole: 89 --> 74
Speed: 84 --> 81
Poke Check: 85 --> 70
Endurance: 86 --> 73
Breakaway: 88 --> 75
Rebound Control: 90 --> 75
Shot Recovery: 88 --> 80
Intensity/Clutch: 86 --> 70
Potential: 92 --> 96
New Overall Rating: 77
Reasoning: Greiss is quite possibly the next great goalie to come out of the
San Jose goalie factory. In a long line that includes goalies like Johan
Hedberg, Miikka Kiprusoff, Evgeni Nabokov, and Vesa Toskala, there's even talk
that Greiss could end up as the best of the bunch. While I wouldn't take it so
far, the German netminder has all the tools to be a great success at the NHL
level eventually. Until then he's the backup in Worcester of the AHL, although
he could move down to start in the ECHL if San Jose brass decide to platoon
Dmitri Patzold & the recenly demoted Nolan Schaefer in the A. Still, Greiss'
skill level is sufficient that I wouldn't even feel terribly nervous about
plugging him in as the NHL backup in a pinch (though I'd feel better with
guys like Schaefer and Patzold). Greiss possesses tremendous leg strength that
makes him very agile and adept at recovering when it seems like he's out of
the play. If he has a weakness right now, it's that he can appear far too calm
to the point that people have accused him of being somewhat disinterested in
the success of the team (not that he doesn't care, just that he appears to
too easily say "oh well" if something bad happens). Oh, and it's an ELT
Mathieu Darche
--------------
Jersey #: 11 --> 49
Helmet: Bauer --> ITECH
Speed: 84 --> 75
Checking: 76 --> 66
Endurance: 84 --> 73
Puck Control: 85 --> 74
Passing: 81 --> 71
Wristshot Power: 86 --> 75
Wristshot Accuracy: 87 --> 77
Agility: 84 --> 72
Toughness: 77 --> 69
Acceleration: 84 --> 76
Balance: 79 --> 73
Intensity: 82 --> 70
Potential: 85 --> 70
Faceoffs: 70 --> 64
Deking: 83 --> 75
Aggressiveness: 77 --> 70
New Overall Rating: 71
Reasoning: ELT. Darche is not likely to ever see action with San Jose at the
NHL level. Not unless some horrible rash of injuries sets in or Doug Wilson
goes mental and trades half the forwards in the organization. Realistically
Darche is just an AHL depth guy for Worcester.
Jonathan Cheechoo
-----------------
Speed: 96 --> 87
Checking: 93 --> 85
Endurance: 99 --> 93
Puck Control: 99 --> 94
Passing: 91 --> 86
Agility: 96 --> 82
Toughness: 99 --> 85
Acceleration: 96 --> 90
Balance: 97 --> 91
Intensity: 94 --> 87
Potential: 99 --> 89
Faceoffs: 85 --> 76
Penalty Resist: 68 --> 73
Aggressiveness: 96 --> 84
New Overall Rating: 90
Reasoning: OK, so Cheechoo had a 50 goal season. EA suddenly turned him into a
mega-star when he isn't quite at that level. I moreso think they tailored him
to better ride shotgun with Thornton than anything, and this should bring his
ratings to a much more respectable level, especially the skating. If there's
always been a knock on Cheechoo, it's that he's never been a terrific skater.
Ryane Clowe
-----------
Checking: 86 --> 88
Wristshot Power: 76 --> 78
Wristshot Accuracy: 75 --> 78
Toughness: 87 --> 90
Balance: 80 --> 86
Aggressiveness: 72 --> 77
New Overall Rating: 79
Reasoning: Small changes, but Clowe has really shown some promise as maybe more
than just a grinder recently. He may only have 11 goals on the season as I
write this, but he's been a good net presence and has managed to find holes in
the goalies.
Patrick Marleau
---------------
Speed: 96 --> 99
Wristshot Power: 94 --> 98
Agility: 93 --> 99
Acceleration: 96 --> 99
Balance: 93 --> 98
Intensity: 94 --> 96
Potential: 99 --> 95
Faceoffs: 85 --> 89
Penalty Resist: 64 --> 79
Deking: 96 --> 98
New Overall Rating: 95
Reasoning: What sort of bizzaro world is EA living in? They made Cheechoo a
better skater than Marleau! Patrick Marleau is one of the NHL's best skaters,
bar none. He's quick, he has tremendous acceleration and he's incredibly
slippery.
Doug Murray
-----------
First Name: Doug --> Douglas (he's said this is what he prefers)
Jersey number: 41 --> 3
Checking: 92 --> 97
Slapshot Power: 73 --> 84
Intensity: 69 --> 75
Aggressiveness: 75 --> 85
New Overall Rating: 73
Reasoning: Just a slight upgrade to reflect the fact that Murray is the 6th
or 7th d-man most nights for San Jose, ahead of Rob Davison and the AHLers like
Ferguson and Traverse.
Pat Rissmiller
--------------
First Name: Pat --> Patrick
Endurance: 80 --> 84
Puck Control: 75 --> 77
Wristshot Accuracy: 74 --> 77
Acceleration: 76 --> 78
Position: Center --> Either wing
New Overall RAting: 77
Reasoning: Rissmiller has established himself as a regular for the Sharks, so
I felt that he deserved a bit of a boost.
Joe Thornton
------------
Passing: 94 --> 99
Slapshot Power: 99 --> 91
Slapshot Accuracy: 99 --> 88
Wristshot Power: 99 --> 93
Wristshot Accuracy: 99 --> 93
Penalty Resist: 68 --> 75
Deking: 98 --> 90
New Overall Rating: 95
Reasoning: A downgrade for Joe, but out of necessity. The problem here is that
he needs to be a playmaker player type to fit properly on the Sharks' top line.
However, just bumping his passing rating up wasn't enough, so this became
necessary.
Vesa Toskala
------------
Helmet Style: Default --> Custom Mask 1 (Closest thing to his real skull mask)
Stick: Default --> Sher-Wood (He really uses a Montreal brand stick, but this
will have to do)
5-Hole: 84 --> 87
Speed: 86 --> 89
Agility: 87 --> 96
Endurance: 81 --> 87
Breakaway: 81 --> 86
Rebound Control: 85 --> 90
Shot Recovery: 89 --> 91
Intensity/Clutch: 75 --> 86
New Overall Rating: 90
Reasoning: I never agreed with the game's initial ratings putting Nabokov a
point higher overall than Toskala. This fixes things and makes Vesa a more
agile goalie.

more might take away any of his effectiveness.

Reasoning: 75 seemed fair for Ramo who has a job in Springfield now. So all

meant to work with the colours of the team. Very few goalies in this game
can be matched up with something real in terms of equipment.

Passing: 90 --> 83
Slapshot Power: 91 --> 71
Slapshot Accuracy: 92 --> 66
Wristshot Power: 90 --> 75

Potential: 97 --> 76
Faceoffs: 93 --> 79
Deking: 90 --> 73
Aggressiveness: 80 --> 75
New Overall Rating: 76
Reasoning: ELT. A part-time player for the Canucks' checking lines, Santala is
not nearly what EA made him out to be. He's a decent playmaker, but his
primary role is going to be on the bottom lines.
Yannick Tremblay
----------------
Jersey #: 38 --> 28
Speed: 85 --> 76
Checking: 76 --> 68
Endurance: 85 --> 75
Puck Control: 88 --> 79
Passing: 87 --> 75
Slapshot Power: 81 --> 86
Slapshot Accuracy: 87 --> 84
Agility: 82 --> 79
Toughness: 76 --> 69
Acceleration: 83 --> 78
Balance: 80 --> 77

Potential: 87 --> 76
Faceoffs: 63 --> 50
Injury Resist: 73 --> 64
Deking: 85 --> 73
Aggressivness: 72 --> 65
New Overall Rating: 73
Reasoning: Another part-timer for Vancouver. Tremblay probably won't see a
ton of time with the Canucks if Luc Bourdon sticks and/or Rory Fitzpatrick
keeps his job nightly. Tremblay's biggest asset his his offensive ability, and
since the team already has guys like Ohlund and Salo who can play two-way
hockey, Tremblay's defensive shortcomings don't make him likely to see regular
action.

Section 8: Contact Info [08CON]
===============================================================================
If you wish to contact me, I can be reached in any number of ways:
-On the GameFAQs.com message boards under the name "The Nemesis15"
-On the message boards at the hockey prospect site "Hockey's Future". The
site's main address is www.hockeysfuture.com and the direct board address is
www.hfboards.com, my username there is "The Nemesis"
-via e-mail at thenemesis15(at)shaw(dot)ca [obviously replace the (at) and
(dot) with the appropriate punctuation. I need to do that in order to ward off
spam.]
Please make sure if you e-mail me, please make sure to include something in the
subject line like "NHL 07 FAQ" so that I know it's not spam. If you don't, I
might accidentally delete your message.
-A new wrinkle: While I appreciate that not everyone speaks English as a first
language, or can write really well, please do not write in internet shorthand,
leetspeak, IMspeak, or any other sort of slang or abbreviated manner. You have
essentially an unlimited amount of time to write your message, and I really
hate reading "dood, I luv ur guide. Can u tell me how 2 make thes ppl plz?"
I know it might seem like a petty request, but that sort of writing really
irks me.
