-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Origin of Mana-Khemia
The Mana is the source of everything for the Alchemy and the Khemia is a
Greek term which means the creation of something valuable from something
of lesser value, or even something from nothing.
-------------
Authors' Note
-------------
Mana Khemia follows in the same tradition of the three Atelier Iris games, also
developed by Gust and published by NIS America, featuring light-hearted
dialogue, a world filled with mana (think of it as elemental life energy), and
at the heart of it all, alchemy, which allows you to create anything you need
from the masses of items that you discover throughout the course of the game.
Ichiyo57 is something of an expert on Mana Khemia and has a website dedicated
to the game. We have collaborated to write this FAQ and we hope you find it
useful. Although there are some spoilers in the game basics and lists sections
there are no spoilers in the walkthrough part of the FAQ.

i. INTRODUCTION ........................................................... A01
===============
The game does an excellent job of leading you by the hand and introducing you
to each new set of options bit by bit, so if you read the tutorials and do as
you're told, you won't go far wrong. Most things are fairly intuitive, but one
or two are less easy to grasp at first, and this section is designed to explain
these in more detail, although if you just read the help sections in the game
itself, you will find most of this information there.
There are many ways of playing Mana Khemia, and with a range of eight
characters and many options for battle equipment and strategies, there could
be literally hundreds of ways to approach any battle depending on what recipes
you have found, which pieces of equipment you have synthesized, and what Ether
value the ingredients might have. You will have your preferred characters as
well, and so we are not going to attempt to tell you who or what to use unless
it is absolutely obvious and essential. We will give general battle strategies
for the bosses, and explain where to find everything.
The character quests can be undertaken at different times, and in fact, you
don't have to do any of them if you are satisfied with the "bad" ending to the
game, but you would be missing out on a lot of fun, and some character
abilities and recipes. If you are following this guide then you should be able
to achieve high enough grades to ensure that you have plenty of free time for
the character quests, so that's up to you. However the school courses and free
time jobs are fixed points, and these are described in the chapters.

ii. THE MENUS ............................................................. A02
=============
---------
MAIN MENU
---------
o ITEM
This command will give you access to your inventory. Bear in mind that you
cannot alter the order in which things are listed. There is no option to make
things appear alphabetically, for example, so you will have to search through
the lists to find what you want. When you find new recipes or items they are
not highlighted, and they will be slotted into their set place on the list, so
again, you have to search to find them.
Six icons appear across the screen and they represent these types of items:
Usable/Material/Weapon/Armour/Accessory/Key Items
You can press triangle while in this menu to be shown the Encyclopedia page for
any item that you select. This will give a description and a recipe (if there
is one) and a list of all the possible Ether Effects.
o STATUS
Select a character from the status screen and you will see a new page with
their name, current HP and SP and equipment, and a list of the effects of that
equipment, together with a list of their status statistics.
Press triangle to be shown their particular character "story". Press triangle
again and you can see their "common skill" which is a list of all skills that
their current equipment allows them to use. Use the directional buttons on
the four pieces of equipment it will show you which effect is held by which
piece of equipment.
Choose to see "Skill" from the option at the bottom left of the screen and this
shows you a full list of all their skills. These are their specific character
skills (which are activated through the Grow Book), together with the skills
that their equipment gives them.
This Status screen is important because it allows you to check on progress
with the character quests and to see what different effects changing
equipment might have.
o GROW BOOK
This command takes you to the Grow Book of the selected character. Press
triangle to zoom in and out and use the directional buttons to scroll to the
next character. You will soon get used to this screen as you will see it a
lot! Each time you craft a new piece of equipment or item, check the Grow
Book, and if it is am important item, you will see one of the sockets glow and
open up. Then you can allocate AP (ability points, which are earned by winning
battles) to give that character new skills and increase their status.
Sometimes you will not be able to open the socket, even if you have created the
correct item because it has to be connected to ones that are already open and
it might be further away.
There are no levels in this game, and the Grow Book is the ONLY way to, for
example, raise HP or attack power permanently, although some equipment can
give your characters a temporary boost.
o POSITION
This command shows you the battle position screen. Here you can change the
position of the battle group. When you have more party members you can have
three in the front or Vanguard, who will start the battle on screen and a
support team at the back who won't be seen, but they can switch with the people
at the front line and make attacks, during the battle. When you have all eight
characters two of them will have to stay out of the active party, but the good
news is that they still gain AP (though at half the normal rate.)
o ENCYCLOPEDIA
Ah, the Bible of all Atelier Iris games. This contains lists of everything you
have made and found, monsters slain, what they drop and what sweet they can be
transformed into, and their "traits" or weaknesses and strengths. HP is not
listed because you have to discover this for yourself. There is also an
extensive Help menu which is added to as you go.
You will find every base recipe listed and the various items that can be
created from it. Most recipes allow you to create a range of new items, and
you can see the precise ingredients for everything you make by looking at the
item lists. This handy reference source also contains all the tutorials that
you receive during the game.
The Encyclopedia records your progress as you attempt to collect everything in
the game. 100% is the ultimate goal!
o HANDBOOK
The Handbook is very useful because it will remind you of what week it is and
what you are supposed to do next if you forget or get distracted. Don't forget
about the handbook, because it will help you in many ways.
There are four options here:
1. Memos
When an event occurs or you are on some quest, or job, a small red note
might appear on the bottom left of the main screen to tell you that the
memo has been updated. Look here to find out what has happened and what
you need to do next or where you must go.
2. Schedule
This allows you to see the timetable for each term and to review your grades
after you have completed a term. Do your best to be an A student!
3. Jobs
When you take on the jobs (and you should accept them all for the money and
rewards and especially if you want to complete the Encyclopedia), the
details of all the jobs can be seen. If it is an alchemy job then you
won't know where to go with the things you make until after you have made
everything for that one job. Then the job sheet will update and you will
know who is the client and where they are situated.
4. Task Sheet
This is also a useful feature and easy to miss. At a certain point you
will be given the option to schedule your classmates to do various things
for you. You can check up on their progress on this double page list and
if someone has completed their task before the week ends you could
re-assign them to do something else, using the board in the Workshop.
The tasks are:
Gathering: select a location for them to gather items
Synthesis: select an item for them to make (this doesn't use any of your
current stock of materials so is very helpful for uncommon items)
Search: select Search and they will gain AP.
o OPTION
These are the game options for message speed, and volume. There is an option
for Japanese voices if you prefer.
--------------------
CAMPUS LOCATION MENU
--------------------
Off Campus
Workshop
Workshop Hallway
Classroom
(Other campus locations.)
Use this menu to move immediately to the different locations around the school
campus. More will open up as the game progresses. When a particular quest or
task is happening a red tick will appear next to the place or places where you
are supposed to go.
The workshop is where you and your gang hang out and where you can save and
synthesize items. Next to it is the workshop hallway where you will find a
door to the Athanor Room. This is where you go to make equipment. (It is like a
forge and similar to the system in Atelier Iris 2 for those who know that
game.)
The boys' dormitory has another save point in Vayne's room which is up the
stairs. You can choose to sleep here during free time, and a week will pass
by. This is not needed most of the time, but if you want to speed up the game
it can be useful.
Off Campus will allow you to leave and then there are choices of a number of
outside locations. More become available as the game progresses. These are
all places with monsters to fight, recipes to find and items to gather.
----------------
OFF CAMPUS MENU
---------------
New locations will open up chapter by chapter and these are reached directly
from the off campus menu. Simply select the location and you will be at the
start of the area. To return to the campus from a dungeon use the Wings of
Icarus from the Key Items menu (you are given this when you take your first
assignment). You will be transported back to the Off Campus menu and can
return to the campus or enter another dungeon area.
=====================
iii. THE SCHOOL YEARS ..................................................... A03
=====================
The game is divided into twelve chapters representing a school term or summer
break, and each chapter is divided into weeks. Every chapter begins and ends
with an EVENT, which is predetermined. During the chapter there will be classes
to take (except for holiday times), and if you pass your assignments with an
"A" grade then you are rewarded with more free days. If you get lower grades
or fail you lose some free time, and might even be put in detention and have to
complete some additional (boring) tasks. You cannot continue with the game
until you have completed the detention task, so it is best to avoid it
altogether.
Assignments can be undertaken in any order (when there is a choice), and then
they are usually followed by period of Free Time during which you can choose to
complete a range of jobs, and engage in character quests. Free time might be a
week or could be more depending on your success in the assignments. If you
complete two out of four, for example, with an A grade, then you would skip the
other two assignments and have two additional weeks of Free Time. This
principle of gaining Free Time works for most chapters.
You have three years of school and courses to complete before you can graduate,
during which time you cannot leave to go home...wherever that might be. Make
good use of your schooldays, you know what they say: they are the best years of
your life!
===========
iv. ENEMIES ............................................................... A04
===========
There are six species of enemy and an icon will be displayed when you check
their status. This is the first icon in a row, and indicates the type. You
can also view their "traits", which is the name for their particular
strengths and weaknesses. This is shown to the right of the species icon.
The first trait icon shows what weakness the enemy might have (not all do)
and the second and third may show their strengths. Knowing what is what
becomes increasingly important when the enemies become stronger and you have
to work out how to defeat them quickly by exploiting their weaknesses.
Species: Puni, Beast, Dragon, Demon, Undead, Spirit
Traits..icon with an x = weak to element - takes 125% damage
icon with a shield = resist element - takes 75% damage
icon with two shields = double resist element - takes 10% damage
Elements: Ice, Fire, Lightning Wind (Magic Attacks), Physical Attacks
Status Effects:
A skull - poison: loses HP every turn
A white bubble with three dots - seal: can't use magic
A triangle with an eye - curse: can't heal
A large Z - sleep: is asleep until hit
A clock - slow: slower to get its turn
Stars - break - stunned so the card stops
All enemies appear on screen. No random encounters! However, this is not
quite as straightforward as you might think. You can circumvent most enemies
by running past them or jumping over the smaller ones, but sometimes they will
dash at you, or move unpredictably, and you will be in a battle. If you hit an
enemy before it attacks, you may get the first move in the battle.
There are five enemy forms. They all appear as coloured blobs and some are
bigger and stronger than others. Only when the battle begins will you know
which enemies you are fighting and how many of them.
Blue: small enemies that are weaker than you. You can hit these with your
sword and that's the end of them, and you may be rewarded with a bag
which contains whatever item they might have dropped had you fought
them. If you miss and touch them you will have to fight them.
Red : (Small) small enemies that can still put up a fight.
Red : (Large) powerful enemies that will require some strategy to defeat
Red : (Large and tall): Boss enemies
Red : (Large and red with smaller red ones attached): consecutive enemies.
Most enemies drop items, and can be made into sweets or "converted" using
special attacks by Jess and Nikki.
===========
v. FIGHTING ............................................................... A05
===========
Battle Commands appear on a wheel and you choose for each person in turn,
while the battle is paused. Yes, to a certain extent this is a turn-based
battle system.
Attack: Select this to attack with a weapon
Item : Select this to use a healing, stat boost or attack item
Skill : Select this to use a common skill or a character specific skill.
Guard : Take less damage and may get another turn quickly
Escape: Run away. You can run from most battles (very hard to do at night)
The battle system is much more complex than it first appears to be, with new
options which are added as the game progresses. These are all explained in
short tutorials and you can review these in the Help pages.
----------
Action Bar
----------
Enemies and the three party members in the vanguard (at the front) each have a
card which will show in a line at the top of the screen and when the card moves
to the far right then it is the turn of that card.
Many spells are time related and will appear as another card turn. This means
that even if the enemy that created the spell has been defeated, the attack can
still trigger if the battle continues against other enemies.
There are 16 cards in the ACCB bar (as it is called) and every turn (as
represented by a card) is counted as taking one minute according to the game
clock. This means that a battle will count towards your overall time in the
dungeon. Fight too many long battles and you will soon find that hours can
pass. This is why sometimes it is better to avoid enemies or run away from
battles.
The person who makes the final strike will receive extra AP as a reward and
there is additional AP to be earned for a fast battle.
----------
Burst Mode
----------
If you target an enemy's weakness, or manage to stun then and inflict critical
attacks then the Burst Gauge will fill up quickly. This is shown at the
bottom left of the screen and once it is full all attacks will do more damage,
and more AP will be gained after winning the battle.
------
Support
------
Offensive Shift - during your attacks you can chain attacks using the support
party after you have more than three party members. Defensive Shift: during the
enemy's attacks you can defend using the support party. This is much easier
than it sounds: you press X when you see the Support Action sign, and you can
shuffle the cards of the support team using R1 and R2, so anyone who is ready
to move can be used. If their card is greyed out, it means that they have a
wait a while longer. In effect this system means that you can have 6 active
fighters in your party and make the best use of their defensive and offensive
skills.
---------------
Variable Strike
---------------
This is an attack that only Vayne can use, and it is first available at the
end of Chapter Five (at the same time as the Finishing Burst). You must
complete a series of three support attacks with Vayne taking the last spot and
this triggers an all party attack which can inflict a great deal of damage.
What this means in practice is that Vayne must be in the support group and all
three must have their cards active and not be greyed out. Someone in the
Vanguard makes an attack and then you switch in another two attacks from the
support group and finally the last attack is with Vayne. You must use the R1
or L1 button to switch the support characters into position one after another,
in order to make their attacks.
====================
vi. FINISHING BURSTS ...................................................... A06
====================
Every character has one unique attack which can only be used when certain
conditions are met during a battle. First of all, the Burst Gauge must be
filled, and this is achieved by inflicting critical attacks and targeting the
enemy's weakness. Then a condition will be set which must be met in order to
fill up the "Finishing Gauge" meter. There are a range of these, and they
include such things as "taking damage" "using fire attacks" "inflicting
critical attacks". When this meter is filled there is a new option on the
attack wheel which allows the player to choose one active character to make a
"Finishing Burst". This is a very powerful one person attack which targets one
enemy.
This attack is not available until the final event of Chapter 5 when there
will be a tutorial explaining how to activate it.
--------------------------
Finishing Burst Conditions
--------------------------
All attacks must fulfil these conditions in order to fill up the finishing
burst gauge. If you are too slow, then the burst gauge will deplete until it
is empty and you have to start again from scratch. The conditions set depends
on the character who activates the Burst so they are not random.
o' Power Strike: stun the enemy
o Weak Point: target the weakness
o Mass Combo: don't let the enemy attack: make chain attacks
o Chain Rush: get more chain counts
o Break Charge: use knock back attacks
o Flame element: attack with fire (can use items or spells)
o Ice Element: attack with ice (can use items or spells)
o Lightning Element: attack with lightning (can use items or spells)
o Aegis Protector: null the enemy attack (can use status effects)
o Healful Soul: heal HP (no good if everyone is at full HP!)
o Revelation: strengthen an ally (can use items or spells to boost them)
o Quicksilver: activate a Quick move
o Hypnosis: weaken the enemy or attack with a status effect.
o Time Deceiver: activate a Time Skill.
o Keen Pride: Land a critical.
o Counter Rage: take enemy damage
=============
vii. DUNGEONS ........................................................... A07
=============
The most important thing to know is that you must keep a close watch on the
time. You will see a message on screen in yellow writing to tell you when
three hours, six hours, nine hours, and so on every three hours, for however
long you stay. In fact you can stay as long as you like, except when there is
a timed assignment.
However, there is a risk to this because all enemies will become much fiercer
at night. They will start to dash around and will attack your party. Not only
that, although their stats and the rewards for battle stay the same, they
become very aggressive and fast in battle. If you try to run away you probably
won't make it, at least not until you have tried a few times by which point
half your party might be dead!
This means that it really is not worth while fighting at night, but you can
find safe places to wait, or just go night fishing, although the monsters you
catch also have the "night" effect. In fact it is quite enjoyable to stay out
all night and watch the sunrise.
You can check the precise time by pressing the triangle button to see the Main
Menu screen and there is a clock face with the time in the left hand bottom
corner of the screen.
----
Maps
----
While inside a dungeon you can see where you are by pressing START, and this
displays the map and a description of the area. You will not see the whole map
until you have explored and you will not see your precise location, just the
section that you currently exploring. Most maps cover more than one page, so
scroll to see the next area.
o Gather Point: a green pulsing icon will show any places where you can
gather materials by farming, fishing, mining or picking
fruit.
o Target Location: a red pulsing icon will show your destination if there is
one. This is often a boss enemy.
====================

===========
ix. ALCHEMY ............................................................... A09
===========
At the heart of Mana Khemia is alchemy. You synthesize a huge range of items
in order to make the equipment and other things you need. Some items will open
a slot in the Grow book when you make them, and this in turn will allow for
special skills to be activated, and for various permanent status increases.
This is the ONLY way to raise HP and SP and to increase the number of attacks.
If you want to synthesize items then you can do this in the Workshop on campus.
All equipment is made in the Athanor Room which is located through a door in
the Workshop Hallway.
o Athanor Synthesis
This is straightforward, so long as you have the ingredients (and a recipe).
After the item is made, you can select three Effects to add to the equipment.
The first is called a Common Skill and this is a magic spell, such as Flare
Rain, or an attack such as Silent, and the other two are stat increases, such
as Attack (Small, Medium or Large). When you make equipment try to ensure that
it has one Common Skill that can be selected for the blue bar.
o Workshop Synthesis
This is more complex and more fun. Every item used in a recipe for synthesis
has an Ether (E) Level, numbering from 0-100. Depending on what number the new
item has it will have certain pre-set effects. There is a maximum of three
different effects that are set for one item, but any item could have a range of
up to six different effects and discovering all of these, and the best ones, is
part of the fun! (Although in fact all possible Ether effects are listed in
the Encyclopedia.) The Alchemy Wheel or as Nikki calls it: "the spinny thing"
is used to adjust the Ether level of the ingredients.
o Creative Synthesis
This is when Vayne makes an item and another party member then gives him a new
recipe. This will happen when you see a small character portrait next to the
item that should be made.
o Derived Synthesis
This occurs when Vayne changes the first ingredient of an item and then comes
up with a new idea for a different item. This will happen if you see a small
yellow icon next to an item.
o Co-operative Synthesis
You can allow your team members to join in and help with synthesizing, and they
can influence the result. Each one has three cards that show their abilities
and one card can be used for every item you use when following one recipe,
although Auto Synthesis will take over the whole process. Generally (though
not always) you will want to match the colour on the card to the colour on the
wheel, and to aim for a high Ether level.
They have all Auto Synthesis and these are their other Cards.
- Jess : Plus 10 / Wind
- Nikki : Reset 0 / Water
- Flay : Plus 30 / Fire
- Pamela : E Level Down 50% / Earth
- Roxis : Minus 10 / Switch Card
- Anna : E Level Plus 50% / Slow
- Muppy : Minus 30 / Redo Synthesis
o Mass Production
Once you have made something, either equipment or an item, you can mass
produce it, which means you simply select that option and however many you
want of the item, (providing you have the correct ingredients). If you make
the item from scratch again, and create different E effects then all other
items of that kind in your inventory will also have the new qualities.
===========
x. SCHEDULE ............................................................. A10
===========
You will have the choice to set a schedule for the team every week, and your
team members will Gather items, synthesize, Join in the Search, or Wait.
This option first becomes available in Chapter 4.
o Gather
Send them to any location that is available and they will return with items.
Each person has their speciality for gathering although they will also bring
back additional items. Until they (or you, during normal exploration and
gathering) find an item it will be shown on the list in the Workshop as ???
o Synthesis
Set an individual to make any item that you have already made. Difficulty
ranges from super easy to super hard and this will effect the time is takes to
make the item and the number they will make. They will not fail and anything
they make is in effect free, as it does not use any materials from your
inventory. This is VERY useful and you should make good use of this feature.
o Search
Select this option and the chosen person will join in the search. Anyone who
is set to this option will gain AP.
o Wait
Do nothing. This is a pointless choice with no benefits!
You can check on everyone's progress in the Handbook where a percentage
completion rate is shown under the heading "Task Sheet." At the end of the
time, they will report back and give you everything they they have gathered or
made and tell you how much AP they have gained.
======================
xi. SAVING AND LOADING .................................................... A11
======================
There are two places on Campus where you can save and load the game. One is
in the Workshop, and the other is in Vayne's room in the Boys' Dorm, although
this option is not available until Chapter 2, Free Time. There are a number of
save points at key places in dungeons.
The game makes one save file on your memory card (an appropriate bookcase), and
within that file you can make up to 12 separate save files: one for each
chapter if you wanted to do so.
===============
xii. NEW GAME + ........................................................... A12
===============
After completing the game (whichever ending you choose) there will be a gold
star against your final save and you can start the game again with the Grow
Books for every character. That means that whatever percentage you had at the
end of the game you will still have that at the start of the new game +.
However, you will not have any of the items you made or the recipes. These
have to be found again, but you are allowed to keep your Cole and your current
AP, though that is only useful if you have anything left to socket.
There is also a bonus dungeon that can be accessed in this new game + OR if
you load your final save before defeating the last boss. See the chapter on
this for more details.
====================
xiii. HINTS AND TIPS ...................................................... A13
====================
1. Collect as much of everything as you can. You can never have enough items,
although you are restricted to 99, and you can sell off the excess.
2. Check all shops at the start of every chapter to buy new recipes and items,
since their inventories change. If you miss finding or earning a recipe
you will find it for sale in the following chapter.
3. Set your team's schedule at the start of every week and send them to
gather any difficult to find items, and to synthesize items that are
in short supply or hard to make.
4. If you need more AP for the Grow Book then send people to Join in the
Search, or just keep fighting battles. Use the Burst Gauge to collect more
AP from battles.
5. When a new area opens up spend some time exploring it and finding new
recipes and items.
6. If you need to go a long way in a dungeon, stay the night by finding a
safe place to wait: farming and fishing places are good for this. Just
kill off any random enemies before it gets dark and they will not re-spawn.
7. NEVER fight at night if you can avoid it. It is not worth the hassle.
8. Synthesize, synthesize, synthesize. If there is an alternative item for the
first material in a recipe, then try it out, and if a light or character
icon appears next to an item. This way you may find new recipes.
9. Analyse every new enemy and boss so you can target its weakness.
10. Keep the Finishing Burst Gauge nearly full before confronting a boss.
11. Nikki can tame any Beast monster (a pawprint shows this class), even
some minor bosses
12. Check the Handbook, 1. Memo, if you are not sure what you are supposed to
do or where to go, for an assignment or job.

===============================================================================
This walkthrough is arranged to follow the Chapters and Weeks of the game.
Every chapter shows a list of everything that is available at that point. When
a new area opens up a guide to exploration is included. There are no spoilers
for the story.
If you want to search for a particular job or assignment by name then simply
write the title in your search box and this will take you to the relevant one.
Alternatively you can find the Chapter and scroll down to find the section you
need.
Week One for every Chapter is an Event and there is no need to comment on most
of these, however we have used this week to include any particular hints or
tips about the chapter.

After watching the introduction to the game, simply continue through the
scenes until you have control of Vayne. Since this week is called
"Orientation", it is worth while getting used to how the game works as soon as
possible. Now you will have Jess in your party, and access to the Main Menu,
which lists Item, Status, Encyclopedia, Handbook and Option. Your first task
is to visit the three locations that are ticked on the Campus Menu.

The shops will add to their inventories as the game progresses, and recipes
are one time purchases. If you miss finding a recipe in a chest or as a reward
for a job it will be for sale during the following chapter at one of the shops.
It's a good idea to check the shops at the start of every chapter.

Buy some Nectars as soon as you can afford it because these will revive anyone
if they die during a battle. If you don't revive them they will be restored
with 1 HP after the battle has ended.
If everyone dies then you will be transported back to the Academy where you
will all recover. There is no penalty for death in battle, however, there will
be some "Event" boss battles that you must not lose or it will be Game Over.
===============================================================================
CHAPTER ONE: WEEK ONE: ASSIGNMENT
===============================================================================
Head to the Student Affairs office and speak to the clerk, and accept an
explanation on courses. "R"means "Required", and if you fail there is
detention!, which basically means extra classes, and less free time. If you
get good grades you will be rewarded with more free time. The clerk gives you
"Wings of Icarus". This is a Key Item which means that you can return to campus
whenever you like. Choose your course: there is only one at this stage, and
after a short scene you will be off on your first assignment for Mr Zeppelin.
o---------------------------------o
Assignment: -Synthesis I Basics
o---------------------------------o
"A" condition : Very Easy
Items obtained when accepting this Assignment: Nothing
Task: Gather the 3 ingredients!
Location: Living Forest
Before accepting this assignment, go and get some "Clearwater" from the
Workshop tap, if you haven't already done so. Now you can head "Off Campus"
from the campus menu. When you begin, Vayne will immediately get a "Blue
Petal", and you will be introduced to your first "brown bag", say hi, because
these will become familiar friends. You will then encounter your first battle.
Remember that if you hit an enemy when its card is red you have a better chance
of stunning it so it cannot fight for a while, and all attacks against it will
be critical. This also has the added useful effect of filling up the Burst
gauge much faster. During the battle aim to kill one enemy at a time.
All you have to do now is to find a "Spinacherb" which is easy enough if you
cut some grass.
At this stage of the game you are freshmen and cannot access all parts of the
Living Forest. Continue up to the tree where there is a signpost. Head left to
the Bone Grove and at the top of the path there is some grass where you can
find a Spinacherb. At this point your team will suggest you return, but you
don't have to listen to them. You can continue exploring since there is no
time limit on this assignment, but without a map it may not be worth it just
yet. (You could head to the right from the tree and cut the grass there.)
Keep going west and up the next path and there is a chest containing Wooden
Club which you can equip to Nikki. If you carry on you will end up at a sign
that warns of danger and there is no access to Freshmen. There are also two
large red enemy blobs who might be a bit more than you can handle at this
point. You also don't yet have a map, so maybe it's best to call it quits for
now.
After gathering these three items, return to Mr.Zeppelin in the Faculty Room.
You will also obtain a "Healing Medicine" recipe which enables you to make the
Heal Jar.
If you cannot remember what you are supposed to do for an assignment, and this
might happen later in the game, then look at the Handbook, 1. Memo, and see a
pages explaining exactly what you must do and where you must go.
------------------
SYNTHESIS TUTORIAL
------------------
The assignment will not be completed until you check in with Mr Zeppelin in the
Faculty Room.
Then you will receive a tutorial about synthesis. Press the right directional
button to see the page with all the ingredients listed. Just use the ones
already selected, although you can see that there will be more options at some
point as each page has an additional list of ????
Now you are on your own for this synthesis, and a wheel will start to spin.
The idea is to try and stop the wheel when the colour that is the same colour
as the item's card, is in the circle. Make the Heal Jar and that is the end
end of the assignment. You will get an A, and move on to the next week.

CHAPTER ONE:WEEK TWO: ASSIGNMENT
===============================================================================
o------------------------------o
Assignment:- Combat I Basics
o------------------------------o
"A" condition : Very Easy
Items obtained: Heal Jar x 2 / Nectar x 1
Task: Defeat Platinum Puni
Location: Wind's Corridor
Before accepting this assignment, I suggest you revisit the Living Forest and
gather some Spinacherb and Blue Petals for making some Heal Jars, they will be
useful, and collect items from enemies too. With this, you will make some items
for the Grow Book and be ready for the battle with the Platinum Puni. You will
obtain the "Ragged Collar Recipe" (Old Collar) from Althanor (the weapon
alchemy room in the workshop corridor) and the Grow Book. You will also obtain
"Legien Steel", "Wood-chip" and "Dirt" from him too, but his door only unlocks
after accepting the assignment.
There is a Tutorial on the Athanor at this point.
Make the Old Collar, and see the tutorial on the Grow Book. Then choose Grow
Book from the menu and add AP to the slots for Vayne. If you have been
fighting a few battles you could have enough for the +20SP and +10 Attack at
least. Pop back to the Student Store and you could buy the recipes for the
Uniforms. You could make these but first you need the Zettel Paper, and this
requires Carrotato, which you can buy at the Cafeteria.
WIND"S CORRIDOR is now open to you.
It is fine to explore here first and then return to deal with the Boss.
Climb up the first set of steps and you can find the recipe for Hammeryhammer
in the chest close to the large red enemy. You can also start collecting
panthers and bears for Nikki's summon ability. The enemy Owlbear has a
powerful Counter attack, but this can be avoided if you use magic or Nikki's
Heart Cracker attack.
As soon as you head down from the chest and turn to the right there will be a
scene and Jess finally reveals her map! Press START to see the map and you
will also be shown the location of the enemy. I suggest heading back to the
Workshop now, after collecting some more things and maybe a few more fights.
You should be able to make the Crack Hammer, even if you have to use a
different item for the first card. You can buy the Canone Rock and this will
give Jess a fire attack (Flame Gaze), which is useful given that so far most of
the enemies have been weak to fire. Remember to socket the Crack Hammer in the
Grow Book. NOW you can go kick those Punis! This time just follow the map to
find them, but make sure to take the lower path when you come to the T junction
Try to avoid unnecessary battles on your way to the Boss, by jumping the small
red blobs, and you can always run away if you get caught in a battle.
Lovely Bag (a recipe for Jess) is in a chest once you reach the ice looking
area, and in the screen before the Puni boss. There is a Nectar if you go down
the steps. In fact you can still return to the campus if you want, but maybe
best get it over with.
o-----------------------------o
BOSS - PLATINUM PUNI
o-----------------------------o
HP: 241
Protection: none
Skills: HP Drain, Calamity
Weakness: Fire
o-----------------------------o
Before Platinum Puni appears, you have to deal with some other monsters. Save
your SP and only be concerned with using physical attacks. If needed, use a
Heal Jar until Platinum Puni appears. Make sure to use Vayne's Analyse skill.
There are four stages to this battle: First, 3 Mini Puni, and they are very
easy to defeat, and won't give you any trouble. Second, 3 more Puni and
Third, 3 Red Puni. These are all weak to fire. Finally the Platinum Puni
appears with 3 Red Puni. Now, use all your SP, and use a Healing Echo Alpha
with Jess, which helps when someone is hurt, since it will set a time card and
heal for two rounds. Start by analysing the boss since you should already
know the stats for the Red Punis. Pick them off one by one and use a Heal Jar
if someone needs fast recovery.
You can win this battle easily without using the Nectar. You automatically
receive the "Shiny Puniball" and to finish, report back to the Student Affairs
office. If you want to do more exploring before moving to the next week, then
just go back out again and avoid going to Student Affairs until you are ready
to move on.

CHAPTER ONE, WEEK THREE EVENT
===============================================================================
There is an event when you receive Generic Cloth from Flay: the recipe to make
Nicro Cloth.
The OLD SCHOOLHOUSE opens up where you can go to get a Tuft from the Lore
Beast. Although the location of the enemy will appear on the map eventually,
you first have to explore the area.
Follow the path, cutting grass as you go until you reach the building. There is
a chest with a Heal Jar in the first room, and another with 50 Cole. Keep
going left, until you head up the screen. Jump up the grass ledge and continue
to go through the door past the large red blob and next to a gathering garden,
for another chest containing Delicioussoup Recipe (Green Soup). Further left
from here are some steps leading to the next floor. Head up here and check
your map to see the red dot location of the boss.
Walk right along the corridor and eventually you will find the save and heal
point and the boss is not much further on. If you run out of time (after nine
hours) and it is getting late, then simply retreat. Try and have enough time
left to enter the room by the save point before fighting the boss, and you can
collect items and open two chests: one with 50 Cole and the other holds a
Nectar.
o-------------------------o
BOSS - LORE BEAST
o-------------------------o
HP: 1036
Protection: None
Skills: Howling, Quick
Weakness: Ice
o-------------------------o
Before beginning this battle, why not save and then return to the Workshop and
synthesize all the items you can manage before fighting the Lore Beast. Make
sure that Nikki equips the Favourite Bag after you synthesize it with the Blue
Petal giving her the skill of Ice Storm. When you are finished, go fight Lore
Beast. It's not a very tough Boss. Use all your SP with Skills and heal
constantly with Healing Echo Alpha. Its Howling attack can do around 30 HP
damage to one person, so if necessary use some Heal Jars, but I assure you that
this battle is not really hard. Because it is a Beast Nikki can "tame" this
monster! Your reward is "Bomb Recipe" (Flame), and the item Tuft, which you
require for the Nicro CLoth.
The party returns to the workshop automatically, but it is worth going back to
the Old Schoolhouse in the next chapter, because there is a room with items
along the path past where you fought the Lore Beast. For now the group will
make the Nicro Cloth and that's the end of this first chapter.

CHAPTER TWO: WEEK TWO: ASSIGNMENTS
===============================================================================
o---------------------------o
Assignment:- Predictology
o---------------------------o
"A" condition : Easy (Depends on you)
Items obtained: Fishing Pole and Nectar
Task: Fish for 2 hours
Location: The Heights
A really easy assignment: all you have to do is to fish... By the way, gather
some items before arriving at the Fishing Spot, and use Nikki's Heart Cracker
on the many beast enemies in this area.
From the start head to the right towards the red spot on the map. When you
reach the first large red blob open the chest up the steps to find a recipe
Doll (Straw Doll). There are loads of Tufts here, which makes you wonder why
you had to go to all that trouble before just to get one. The next area has a
chest at the far side of the hole: Spring Decor recipe (Eternal Turnkey).
Continue up the slope to the right, and there is a path leading down to the
right which takes you to the fishing spot. Carry on though to the next screen
because there is a useful save point here and a chest containing 150 Cole.
Fishing
All you have to remember is to hit a blue line when you see a really long red
line, you know that it's this one that contains a Monster Encounter. Fish some
Joker Fish, Masou (Left) and Endless Seaweed, Tiger Blowfish, Strom Shell,
Beast Fang (Right) until the end of the Assignment time.
The more fish you catch the better your grade. Every monster counts as a minus
point to your overall score, but even if you do catch one, you can still get an
"A" so long as you catch a good number and range of fish. The best way is to
start with the left spot and after you have caught one of each kind move to the
centre. You can stop and check your current total on the memo. They will
automatically stop fishing when the time is up. This time I reeled in 8 times
no monsters but no Blowfish, which was enough for an "A".
You can carry on fishing here if you like, but the fish will not be counted
towards your assignment. Try to catch at least one Tiger Blowfish and you will
then be able to synth the Thorn Gauntlet. If you can, catch two more, and you
will be able to complete a Job quickly in the following week.

Greedy Needy is a useful one at this point in the game if you can afford it:
15% more chance of enemies dropping an item, triggered if you gather more than
40 items in one search.
There will be a lot of new items that can now be made, so it's a good plan to
spend some time with the cauldron, and in the Athanor Room.
o-------------------------o
Assignment:- Pharmacy I
o-------------------------o
"A" condition : Very Easy
Items obtained: Shovel and Heal Jar x2
Task: Water the Farm
Location: Living Forest
I think these missions will be really difficult later but for now, they are
all easy. Anyway, just go to the Farming Place of the Living Forest and just
gather every item that you can find and then return to the Student Affairs...
Head to the right from the tree sign and there is a chest with 200 Cole, Go on
to the next screen and there is one with 100 Cole if you keep going past the
grass. Head up the screen to a tree where there are two enemies and you can go
left or right. Left takes you a long way and up a cliff where there is a chest
with 3 Heal Jars if you nip past the large red enemy. You cannot go any further
past this point.
If you head to the right past the tree with the two enemies and bag you will
eventually come to a large red blob and hiding just to the left of it is a
chest with 100 Cole. Follow the path to the right and another large red blob
guards a chest with Puppy Paw Gloves. This is a handy (!) accessory which
raises HP, so I suggest equipping this to Jess.
Continue right from here and there is another branch in the path. The northern
path takes you to the edge of the Mana Ruins and you cannot go further, or
obtain the chest, so don't bother with this. The path to the right leads to a
stream and the farming area. Go to where there is an exclamation mark and
water the plants. Then dig up everything.

CHAPTER TWO, WEEKS FOUR AND FIVE: FREE TIME
===============================================================================
Now you have access to Vayne's bed and the save point at the Boys' Dorm.
Character Quests start now and Jobs. To start a character quest simply speak
to someone in the workshop and choose to find out more. If there is no option,
then you can't do any more quests with that individual for now. .
It is a good idea to read the jobs board in the Student Affairs office at the
start of Free Time, and complete them all before you begin a character quest.
This is because after quest is completed the week will end and you cannot do
anything more. If want to skip to the next week without doing a Quest during
Free Time, then sleep in Vayne's bed. You can find out more about each job
from the Handbook.

Bear Cub appears. Bears are weak to Flame, Tigers weak to Ice, and Kobolds

Final Exam
----------
Strong Fiber Recipe: dietary fibre derived item.
Spinacherb, Burdock Straight and Clearwater is the recipe, but for a good
quality product Jess knows that a HUFFIN is needed, and there is only one
place to find these: The Heights.
Head up past the digging area and continue to the save point past the fishing
area, (pick up bags here and slash grass to find Burdock Straight), and
continue left to find Roxis.
o------------------------------------o
| BOSS - ROXIS | The Heights |
------------------------------------
HP: 990
Protections: Seal
Skills: Seal, Ice Volley, Megaheal
o------------------------------------o
Before beginning this Battle, why not save and then return to the Workshop and
synthesis all the Items you can create before fighting Roxis. When you have
finished, go back and fight Roxis. This is not really a hard battle. Roxis is
only concerned with stunning characters with his Purify Card. He uses some Ice
Rain which is a timed attack and can heal some 355 HP with his Megaheal so
concentrate on attacking and using your best Skills.
After this, continue heading left towards the red marker. After a scene you
will be back at the Academy. (If there is any point when you are not sure what
to do next, then check the Handbook). Return to The Heights and the Huffin
tree (you don't have to walk!) and you will be able to find some Huffin, Nikki
will receive her Mana, and the group should then return to the Academy. Head
to the workshop and make Dietary Fiber using Huffin as the first ingredient. As
soon as that happens you will be back with the teacher. Then after a scene,
there is a chance to save at the end of the chapter.

CHAPTER THREE, WEEK FOUR: EVENT
===============================================================================
Event: Resource Center Opens!
Go to all the areas with a red tick, (including one off campus) and finally
visit the resource centre. There is time to call in at the Resource Center
shop, pick up a load of new recipes along the way and find the lost person.
Fight the monster and get the Cure Jar at last!
You can find the shop by entering the dungeon from the reception area, and then
heading north following the game map. You will have to fight monsters along
the way and go through two doors which are in the northern wall of a corridor.
Eventually you will reach a large room with tables and chairs at a lower level
than the entrance. There is a counter and a woman behind it selling a large
range of very useful items, and two expensive recipes!
To find the enemy head to the right past the first door and this takes you to
the south part of the Resource Center. From here you will see the red spot on
your map. Carry on down the stairs and through the room with loads of books on
the floor. Continue north but don't forget to pick up the contents of the three
chests in the room just past the doorway.

doesn't have any weakness but you can easily deal with him by using Jess's
Thundering Hammer to seal his magic, although this effect only lasts a few
turns.

CHAPTER FOUR, WEEK ONE: EVENT
===============================================================================
By the end of this event you will have both Pamela and Flay in your team.
TIP
Pamela has a very useful skill: Immortal Body, which means that, if she dies in
battle, she will resurrect herself after a short time, You don't need to
waste a Nectar on her unless she dies for the second time, and you'll know
when this happens because her body is no longer on the battlefield: she
disappears up into Pamela heaven.
================
CHAPTER STRATEGY
================
You will be introduced to some new options and from now on it's an idea to get
into good habits at the start of each chapter. This means:
1. Check the shops for new items and recipes (don't forget the Resource Center)
2. Make everything you can make from all new recipes you have found. You will
also get a number of new ideas and recipes from team members.
3. Socket everyone's Grow Book.
4. Upgrade equipment for everyone.
5. Set the weekly schedule for every week. (Including Assignment weeks)
6. Revisit newly opened areas.
At the start of week two Flay will introduce the Schedule and now you can
direct your team members to gather items, make anything that you have already
created, or search in order to gain more AP. Experiment with this useful
device, and try to synthesize items that need harder to find ingredients.
Anything that your team makes is free, in the sense that it does not use up
any of your stock of materials.
Each person has their particular strengths and some will take longer than
others to make something, but you can be secure in the knowledge that they
never fail. However, the easier something is, the more they will make or
bring back at the end of the time.
o Formations Tutorial
You can now make better use of your team by having some people in the front
row and others in the back.

CHAPTER FOUR, WEEKS TWO AND THREE: ASSIGNMENTS
===============================================================================
o------------------------o
Assignment :Minerology
o------------------------o
"A" condition : Easy
Items obtained:- Heal Jar x2 and Pickaxe
Task: Find minerals and dig!
Location: Mana Ruins
o Chain Attacks tutorial.
As soon as you enter the Ruins there will be a tutorial with Flay.
Things become interesting! This Assignment can lead you to a B easily if you
aren't able to finish this in time. I suggest you first concentrate on mining
rocks and avoid all enemies. Also avoid opening chests or cutting grass or
anything that might cause a few seconds delay. After learning how to use the
Chain Attacks with Flay, you will have to start the assignment. You can see
the first two locations on your map.
NOTE: In fact this assignment is easy if you completely ignore the middle
mining area. Simply go to the first one and then walk all the way to the
third one, and this will definitely get you an "A". If you insist on going to
all three this is how you can do it, but it is hard to complete all three in
the time allowed.
First, go forward hopping over the rock to the left of Dior, and then jumping
up the stones. Head up the path and clamber over the next set of stones and
then turn to the right and at the new screen go mining. Then, return back to
the pillars and walk forward, up past the pillars. Then clamber up the stones
to your left and up the wide steps. At the next screen, you should go left and
you will see the mining spot to your right. Carry on heading left and ignore
the garden for now. Jump on the pillar to the left until you arrive in front of
a single enemy. This is just past another small garden.
Just jump to avoid him and continue along the side of the wall and then smash
the barrel and head back up the path (the far side of the wall) until you can
reach the mining area. Now, there's one spot still to find.
Hop up onto the stone that has a bag just ahead of you and then to the pillar
and you can return to the end of the stone steps. This time carry on heading
north. The path goes up some steps and then right. You will now arrive at a
new screen and still no sign of a gathering area, but keep going past a save
point and continue along the obvious path until you reach some narrow stone
ledges.
Jump up and take the middle one left and at the end jump across to some more
ledges and continue walking down along this ledge. Jump down at the end where
it turns a corner and continue up a stone path to the North of the Mana Ruins.
At last you can see the red mark on the map. Immediately from the arrival point
take a few steps up keeping to the stony ground, and then head right to the
next screen. You have to jump up a number of ledges and at the far end of
this area to find the mining spot which is out of sight at first. This should
be done for an "A".
If you collect from the 1st and 2nd, you get a B
If you collect only at the 1st or 2nd, you get a C
If you collect everywhere or only 1-3 or 2-3, you are awarded an A
If you do not anything, than F
o------------------------------o
Assignment - Combat II Burst
o------------------------------o
"A" condition : Normal
Items obtained: - Flame x5, Heal Jar x2 and Nectar
Task: Defeat Stone Watcher using a Burst
Location: Living Forest
The enemy is found all the way to the east of the forest: just look at your
map. The location is up past the tree, from the path you took to the farming
area. There is no harm doing a spot of gathering on your way and you will find
that many enemies are now blue and can be slashed.
o------------------------------o
BOSS - STONE WATCHER
o------------------------------o
HP: 2453
Protection: Curse, Seal
Skills: Calamity, Soul Blast
Weakness: Fire
o------------------------------o
Although you are given some flame items in case you don't have any fire spells
it is better to make some accessories or weapons with the spell Flame Gaze.
Brand Name bag for example has Flame Gaze on the Crimson Feather.
You have to fight the enemy and trigger a Burst. The time limit is 30min. This
means that you have to defeat him within less of 30 Cards. (1 Card = 1 Min) For
this, I suggest you concentrate on his weakness which is Fire. Cast some Flame
Gaze if you have this spell or use the Flame that you are given or those which
you have synthesized. Its attacks target everyone and can be quite damaging.
By the way, don't worry too much if Pamela dies as she will resurrect herself
without you having to do a thing.
If you make a burst but the time is over 30 minutes then you get a B.
But with an A and a B you will still have extra free time, however if you
manage to allow everyone to die then you will get an F and have an extra
assignment or if you failed to achieve the necessary 6 stars.
o---------------------------------o
Assignment:- Synthesis II Ether
o---------------------------------o
"A" condition : Very Easy
Items obtained:
Task: Bring a Flame with a high Ether level.
Location: Workshop
o Tutorial on Ether levels and compatibility.
Return to the classroom with your Flame and for a lecture. 61 will net you a B
and free time, 25 a C and you might risk Detention! It is easy enough to get
a higher Ether level for an A.
----------
Detentions
----------
This time it was: Clean the Resource Center. You cannot sleep, or do any
character quests while in detention, although you can still head out of campus
and do some alchemy. Follow the instructions given in the memo to know what you
must do to complete any detention. I had to clean spider's webs; it's not much
fun, and I wouldn't recommend it.

CHAPTER FOUR, WEEK FOUR, FIVE AND SIX: FREE TIME
===============================================================================
Make sure to complete all the jobs. This is especially important now that the
shops sell more expensive items and recipes. If you miss out on a Job recipe it
will be for sale in the next chapter, but then not only do you miss out on the
cash reward for the Job, you also have to buy the recipe. Don't forget to set
the schedule for each week.

JOBS - [Help Me]
================
064 : Old Schoolhouse Rumble
Condition : Defeat the Delinquents Gang
Location : Old Schoolhouse
Recipe Obtained : Nothing
Reward : 1760 Cole
Client : Arsha (Student Affairs)
-Delinquents Gang
The gang is on the second floor of the Schoolhouse so you could do both this
and the next job in the one trip, especially since you can heal completely at
the save point before fighting them. And no need to worry if it's after dark
since boss enemies are not effected.
First is 2 Delinquent Guy and 1 Delinquent Girl
Second is 2 Berserk Student Guy and 1 Berserk Student Girl
Third is 2 Visionist and 1 Warlock
Fourth is 2 Warlock and 2 Delinquent Girl
Last is 1 Beserk Student Guy and 1 Beserk Student Girl
They don't have any weaknesses and Delinquent Guy and Berserk Student Girl can
heal so take them out first. Ice Rain is a nuisance as it is a time card, but
you can use Jess's Thundering Hammer attack to seal. The third round is quite
hard given that the Visionists can Megaheal each other. Keep using Jess's
Healing Echo all the time! If you don't seal her the Girl can summon Living
Bullet, and its Living Charge (suicidal attack) will inflict over 100 HP to
everyone on its second turn if you don't destroy it quickly!

You can find him in the first room in the Old Schoolhouse. He's comes with two
Sword Geist. Just deal with these Sword Geists first and use Fire against them
which will build up your Burst Gauge quickly. He's not really difficult, just
concentrate on attack and use all SP you can. He always uses Flash that can
stunned after 2 times. His attacks are not powerful and he uses an attack
called Savage Blow that deals some moderate damage for one person, but be
careful: he can repeat this attack 5 times in a row if you have a lot of unused
cards because of his Quick Skill. The Recipe allows you to make Plosion, a very
useful item, sooner than if you don't complete this job.

Find the Golden Pig at the end of a narrow path near the Farm. Just as you
start to go up the path towards the Mana Ruins there is a large tree on your
left and the path is behind this tree.
His attacks are moderate. He has "Break" skill that can delay someone's turn
and most of his attacks are Quick. He can also "Block" your attacks. Just deal
with him with most powerful skill you have from Vayne, Nikki and Flay.
Use Ice spells for a faster win.

JOBS - [Bring Me]
=================
085 : Where's the Equipment?
Condition : Give 2 Galilean Scope
Reward : 1910 Cole
Client : Melissa (Resource Center Desk)
For this you need the Thermometer recipe that is found in the Mana Ruins, and
to have made Nectar (recipe from Infirmary) and then Pamela will give you the
recipe for Black Liquid which is needed to make the Galilean Scope.
074 : Gardening Love
Condition : Give 4 Black Dirt
Reward : 1740 Cole
Client : Max (Classroom C-1)
This is easily farmed in the Mana Ruins.
084 : Infirmary Emergency
Condition : Give 2 Cure Jar
Reward : 1940 Cole
Client : Melanie (Infirmary)
Simple! Especially if you used the Schedule to get someone to make lots of
these.
039 : Cold Soup Okay?
Condition : Give 3 "Cold" Soup
Reward : 2640 Cole
Client : Yulie (Cafeteria)
Note : To make "Cold" Green soup, you need to decrease the E-Level between 0
to 20. But to make this really simple, just use a Nikki E-Level 0 and only
select the opposite of the next card you have... If it's a Red Card, select a
Water element etc. Or use Pamela down 50%, and then hit the opposite colour
(eg red when the card is blue) to reduce the level further. You need to give
three of these to Yulie.

CHAPTER FOUR, WEEK SEVEN: EVENT
===============================================================================
School Festival
Visit all the places marked with a red tick on your campus map in order to
open a new location. The classroom to visit is B-1 and then head for the
Auditorium. First of all Flay and Vayne must fight two Qualified Students and
a Glowfire Mana that they can summon which casts repeated Flare Rains. It is
weak to Ice and you should have Ice on Vayne's Pretty Collar if possible.
After this again follow the red tick, and then head to the Mana Ruins and
follow the route to the red Target Location for another scene.

o----------------------------------o o----------------------------------o
You will find Renee past the save point in the North Mana Ruins. Keep
following the paths and ledges until you come to a stone clearing. (There
will be another red Target Location.)
Since Jess/Philo and Flay are not here for the fight, you have to use Pamela as
your main healer so give her some equipment that has "Healing". Use powerful
Skills of Vayne and Nikki and if you have collected a number of hearts you can
use some of these attacks as well. Renee will summon her Azureflame Mana in the
Battle, you can avoid this by Sealing her with the spell "Silent". Thanks to
PennyxDreadful for noticing this. (Although you may want to see her mana for
the purposes of completing the Encyclopedia.)
Azure Flame can Boost and Renee has a powerful Full Power Blade attack that
can stun as well as inflicting serious damage, especially if boosted, so make
sure to keep well healed during this fight. The recipe allows you make Misty
Curtain. Return to the Academy and follow the red tick back to the Auditorium
although you can visit the workshop first if you need to stock up on anything.

You should concentrate on Tony, he's pretty tough with his Twisted Flare
everyone attack. No healer so use some Heal Jars or other healing items if you
meet some problems. Finish then with Roxis. Even with only Vayne and Flay, it's
not really a tough fight. (Note: If you believe in the mantra: KillHealerFirst,
then go for Roxis instead, and he has less HP.)
You receive Radiating Disc (recipe for Divine Shield) after this battle.

===============================================================================
--------------------
ORGANISING YOUR TEAM
--------------------
Roxis has already joined and now Anna joins the workshop as well, so make sure
to socket their Grow Books and check their equipment when you start the next
week. Also add them to the Schedule Task Sheet and re-make any recipe that
their icon appears next to, for example, make a new Heal Jar from scratch and
Roxis will give you the recipe for X-Heal (used for an assignment). You will
also find that you probably have a number of recipes that you cannot yet make,
but with two new locations to explore this should soon be remedied.
By this point in the game the shops will have increased their ordinary
inventories by a fair amount and many items that you had to make before can
now be bought instead: if you have the money for them!
With seven team members someone has to sit out, but even if they don't take an
active part they will gain AP, although it appears to be at half the normal
rate. Roxis does not yet have a Mana nor will he cooperate with Vayne in
synthesizing and the ONLY way to change this state of affairs is to complete
his first three Character Quests.
NOTE: each person has different skills when it comes to synthesizing so set
them to create things that make the best use of their abilities.
o Jess is best on Usable and Material Items
o Nikki can manage a few Material Items but is best used for gathering and
acquiring more beasts for her special skills.
o Pamela is best on Usable and Material Items though even some of these she
finds super hard. Choose wisely.
o Flay is good on Weapons.
o Roxis should be used for Accessories
o Anna is also good with Weapons.

CHAPTER FIVE, WEEK TWO, THREE AND FOUR: ASSIGNMENTS
===============================================================================
Millenium Tree and Dragon's Grave are now available..and you can go and
explore before accepting any assignments if you like. The Millenium Tree one
has to be completed first and then there is a choice
o----------------------------------o
Assignment :-Naturology I Basics
o----------------------------------o
"A" condition : Normal
Items obtained: Boomerang, Amber Soup x2 and Nectar
Task: Gather fruits from the Millenium Tree
Location: Millenium Tree
Well, it's not quite so simple but you have to be patient this time. You are
ordered to gather rare fruit: either Sunrise Orange or Night-In-Grape if you
want to get an easy "A" but there's a problem... The Sunrise Orange can only be
obtained at 4:00 am to 8:00 am and the Night-In-Grape can be obtained from 8:00
pm to 4:00 am. You have to gather all Tangerine, Lando, Bitter Grape from the 2
first spots and try to be in the third spot before 7:00 pm. When Night comes,
there's only one tree that can give you 2 night-in-grape and it's the Tree
situated on the left, the bottom one is for Lando and the right is for the 2
Sunrise Orange when it's 4:00.
To start with just follow the obvious path to the first location where there
will be a scene. Then continue following the obvious path to the second
location at "Near Ground". If you run out of time before reaching the third
area, which is more than likely, then just kill any enemies before darkness
falls and wait it out until morning. Make sure to pick up the Metronome recipe
from the chest next to the entrance to the third area..There is no time limit
on this assignment so it is only over when you decide to leave.
One warning though. If you pick all the fruit at the wrong time it will not
re-generate while you are at the Millenium Tree.

Assignment:- Synthesis III Derivation
o---------------------------------------o:
"A" condition : Very Easy
Items obtained :- Nothing
Task: Synthesize a high quality healing medicine.
Location: Workshop
Actually, it's really really easy. Don't listen to Philomel/Jess when she said
to you to bring an Heal Jar "Powdery (100)" but bring an X Heal. Melanie wants
to teach you, "Derivation". The goal is to use other ingredients for making a
different Item. The X Heal can be made by Roxis Idea after making a Heal Jar.
Make this one Muddy, Effect Plus+", SP + (M) and with the most High Quality you
can (Flay can help you with his awesome Plus 30 and Anna too with her E-Level
Up 50%).
o--------------------------------o
Assignment:- -Combat III Chain
o--------------------------------o
"A" condition : Easy (Impossible for New Game +)
Items obtained :- 3 Bomb Ice and 3 Heal Jar
Task: Defeat the target with a high chain attack.
Location: Mana Ruins Outskirts
Ok first, when Lorr asks Vayne a question, tell him "Party Chain Attack", it's
easy to answer because that's the subject of this Assignment... Anyway, after
finishing this explanation, go to the Mana Ruins Outskirts and defeat the Stone
Emperor with Chain Attacks.

BOSS - STONE EMPEROR
-----------------------------
HP: 1901
Protections: None
Weakness: Electricity
Skills: Teraflame, HP Regen
Drop: None
o-----------------------------o
It's simple. All you have to do is to enter a burst mode, and then attack with
any first character and press X to change character and move L1 - R1 to switch
Character on the Support Formation to continue to make a Chain Combo. Since the
Stone Emperor is pretty easy to defeat and if you want to continue to make
Chains, you must have spent AP on acquiring Support Speed (S) with the Black
Liquid (in the Grow book), which will fill up the Support Party faster.
The Stone Emperor is weak against Thunder so use Thunder Rod to enter into
Burst Mode and have enough for making 10 Chains Combo. If you play on New Game
+ and have completed all the Grow Book, it will be impossible to finish this
assignment because of very strong damage and the A-Support...

Amber, Echo and Grove.
Amber can resist Magic attack but he's weak against Thunder. He drops a
globe that deals moderate damage. Echo can resist Physical attack but he's
weak against Fire. He casts Ice Volley that causes Ice Damage to all. Grove has
no real weakness. He can cast Dancing Edge that appears on the battlefield and
attacks any character. They all can heal so it doesn't matter in which order
you attack them.
045 : A Mad Scientist
Condition : Defeat the Armed Brownie
Location : Wind's Corridor - Mist
Recipe Obtained : Alchemy Pack (Alchemic Bag Recipe)
Reward : 1650 Cole
Client : Arsha (Student Affairs)

heading north and then jump down some side steps going east and then south to
where there are three boxes and he's waiting for you.

His attack is moderate. He has "Awakening Seed" that powers him up and can
launch some stone pillars that can damage constantly. He also uses some attacks
that can delay character turns and sometimes stuns them. He has a lot of HP
and great defense but he's weak against Thunder so use Thunder attacks, enter
Burst and finish him. His timed Lever attack can hurt one person a lot so
keep healed, although you can use Roxis to remove his cards. The recipe gives
you Alchemic Bag, a new weapon for Jess.

086 : Explosives of Revenge
Condition : Give 4 Plosion
Reward : 2220 Cole
Client : Koketsu (Campus Ground - Incinerator)
Although you can buy Plosions in Chapter Six, you have to make them if you want
to complete this assignment now. The Recipe was obtained as a reward for a Job
in the last chapter, but if you are stuck without one you can buy the recipe
"Explosive Powder" from the campus grounds shop.
075 : Loving The Trend
Condition : Give 2 Chrome Crystal
Reward : 2380 Cole
Client : Silika (Girl's Dormitory)
Mine these at Dragon's Grave. Two are required...I know it's obvious, but it's
easy to forget.
087 :
Condition : Give 2 Metronome
Reward : 2750 Cole
Client : Yuki (Music Room)
This recipe: Rhythmical Machine (Metronome) is found in the Millenium Tree. You
also need the The Vibrating Metal Recipe, and this will appears in Leyfa's
Store when you take on the job for the Metronome as it is required for the
recipe, IF you have not yet found it. Otherwise you should already have this
from Chapter Four in the Mana Ruins. You need to give two of these: I tried
for ages with this Job until I realised one was not enough.
===============================================================================
CHAPTER FIVE, WEEK SEVEN: EVENT
===============================================================================
This event gives you access to Dragon's Grave, Heaven's Road. (You must talk
to all the teachers first, ending with Isolde. )
Heavens's Road
Go to Heaven's Road in the Bone Grove, Dragons' Grave. You have to walk all the
way this first time in. Head to the north (which is at the end of the western
path if you haven't explored here yet) and then all the way to the west to
find the ladder up to Heaven. In fact once you reach the area you can return
here directly from the menu screen. It is worth while doing a little exploring
until darkness falls and then heading back to the Workshop to save and
synthesize all the items you can create before fighting the Grandwing Drake.
Wear the Tangerine Hat accessory that makes you immune to poison while
exploring this place. Return by selecting Dragon's Grave and then the Road
from the sub-menu. From the entrance go up to the place with three barrels and
then down the screen. There is a long bone passage leading up to the left so
follow this to the next screen and then head up towards the north and the red
target on the map.
After a short scene the red target has now moved further away so keep on going
forwards through the Middle Area until you reach a Save Point. (You might want
to head back to base from here, or just carry on.) Walk down the right hand
path and up the long ladder and that is your destination.
o-----------------------------------------------o
| BOSS - GRANDWING DRAKE | Dragon's Grave |
-----------------------------------------------
HP: 8480
Protections: Poison, Sleep, Curse, Seal, Slow
Weakness: None
Skills: Knockback
Drop: Magic Ring (Recipe)
o-----------------------------------------------o
First time, don't do anything like healing, and you cannot really damage him
yet. Just keep hitting him until something happens...
After events, you will be able to unleash a Finishing Burst after completing
the condition you are given. When the Gauge fills up at MAX, use the Finishing
Burst. For the moment, only Vayne can use his Finishing Burst. Also, if you
place Vayne in the Support Party and let everyone in the Support Party fill
their Chain Gauge. Now, attack by switching Characters and finish by switching
to Vayne as the last of three consecutive support actions, to unleash a
Variable Strike. Vayne is the only one who can deal a Variable Strike so
remember now to put him in the Support Party before fighting a boss or Story
Boss.
The Drake is still no pushover and his Flare Ray attack can kill, if your
party members have not been doing enough jobs and gaining sufficient AP to
fill their Grow Book sockets.
You will receive the Ring recipe to make Flame Ring, and then continue walking
right towards the next red target point in the Cave of Origin after the battle
to end the chapter. There are no more enemies so you don't need to return to
heal or save at the previous Save Point.
o Variable Strike and Finishing Burst can now be used and this adds a whole
new dimension to battles.
