Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King
Question from Ryd66
Asked on: 8/9 1:10AMEvery SIngle of the FAQ Walkthrough's is wrong. Curer DOES NOT HEAL. Hori DOES NOT CAST OOMPH. I have used them in the Monster Arena 17 times in a row, They just sit and blankly look out into space. and because of that, So does Talos.
Curer uses Fullheal, and in fact I find Curer heals fairly reliably in the Monster Arena. I think he's one of those assess the situation monsters that has a better AI than the others. Now the healers won't heal at all unless someone is at less than Half HP, but the AI sometimes makes them attack or do something else when they really should be healing.
Hori does not cast Oomph. That's the Dumbira monster. Hori casts Multiheal, I believe.
I've never seen Talos or Hori stare blankly in space.

statusI agree. Curer does use Fullheal and fairly often. Hori uses Mulitiheal. And Talos just beats the sh*t out of the enemies. I haven't seen them doing nothis at all, either. I don't know, maybe it has an impact on your monsters when you're extremely underleveled. Or your AI is nuts.
Perhaps you should try the actual "Monster Arena Faq" or one of the recommended walkthru (faq with star) faqs such as Red Scarlett's faq.
You might want to try a different team such as Talos, Dumbking, and Curer. If Talos or any other monster becomes snared he will loose a turn. Your hero's level affects the monster stats, but you should have sufficient levels by the time you get Curer.
If your just looking to beat the Monster Arena for the prizes, just find the My Three Golems Team (locations in FAQ on this site I believe). They fuze into the Monsterous Mazin and perform Critical (Defence Ignoring) Strikes that hurt stuff bad and kill Metal Enemies in the Arena. They will demolish every rank for you in essence that you own level is adequate (at least around 40-45) to have a sure shot of winning.
