Is there any way, once you've defeated the boss, to get back to the World of Darkness?

I may have been in the wrong area, but when I went back it was gone.

statusI'm pretty sure the dark portal is still floating in that desert portion of that island.

Yes there is a way back into the World of Darkness.
The portal to it should still be in the spot you followed the bird shadow to. (Desert portion)
If your talking about going back the Godbird's Eyrie in the World of darkness then that depends on how far in the
game you are. If you went to far in the games storyline then it's impossible to go back.
