I know it restarts your file, but, does anything carry over?
Hero Mode, yes restarts your file, but I think you start from scratch again. HOWEVER, you are able to keep the "power-ups" you received (ex. invincibility, unlimited ammo) and you the orbs you found won't have to be sought after again in hero mode. I think that's all.
