What constitutes a "special item"?

Many ranks require no use of a "special item". I assume this includes Stealth Camouflage, Infinity Face Paint, and the EZ Gun. Does this also include the Patriot, the SAA, the Tuxedo, and other camouflages that carry over from past games?

To reiterate what a couple people have posted, only the stealth camo, IFP and EZ gun count as special items. The Patriot, SAA and Tuxedo (and other camos) are not special items.

No, the Patriot is *not* a special item. Only the three I mentioned in my previous post.

Answer

A special item is one which you don't get by normal means, which would mean hitting al geekos (frogs) etc.
