you have to achieve all skills for the specific weapon in question and/or go through a few dummy training sessions. To use the volty blast, you press square and x at the same time. Also, your volty gauge must be completely full.

To beat Elwen, you can get the Full Power skill from Fernando/Sebastian and equip it to Jack, get a full volty gauge and start a fight. Start off with a volty blast, preferably with an axe, use a tsuchinoko dumpling, then another volty blast. This should kill her if you above 50, if not, you may have to use another dumpling.

To recruit Elwen, you have to:

- Recruit all the member of Theater Vancoor guild(except Elwen of course)

- Then talking to him, and he will challange you in a battle(you MUST beat him)

After that he will join you.

Volty Blast: The weapon must be equipped with a volty blast depending on weapon type, must have 100 energy points, X + Square at the same time to initiate a Volty Blast during battle.

Beating and Obtaining Elwen: All Vancoor Members must be recruited first, Get good equipment, and either get good equipment and level up to atleast 60, or beat the game once with good upgrades, certain equipments(training device etc.), with dagols also being carried over to your new save giving you many benefits for your new story.

Basically, Elwen is very hard to obtain and it may take some work, my current party is Elwen, Kain, and Valkyrie, a very hard group to get. Try looking at some character guides.

Since they already answered the volty blast question, i'll help u with some strategies against Elwen.
Oh and before i forget, alo Elwen is a woman, not a guy.
Well u can find several strategies to beat her, most of than consist on high lvl and good equips, so beating her before ending the game is a really hard task. Never use a full combo on her, use only fast weapons like spear or one hand sword, i used the fast attacks of spear speacially thrust one. Use volty blast as soon as the battle begins since u'll be fighting her for a long time u'll get the chance to use it again in no time.

Don let her hit u too much, after 2 hits u pull back, double pressing "X" button if she hits u too much, her volty gauge will be ready for her tu use a deadly volty blast on u, and almost always is an one hit KO.
If u have some Tsuchinoko dumpling, use it. It'll help u a lot. U can deafeat her with 2 or 3 Dumplings(easy way LoL)

Remember to change yur skills when using volty or fighting or surviving. Using volty blast , keep the Full power skill, this will increase the damage of yur volty. Fighting u'll think tri-emblen is a good shot, if u don have it, use one to encrease yur def, or to fast increase yur volty. When u see that her volty gauge is full, and she is ready to use her volty blast, don think twice, change yur skill to 9 lives(i think that is the name of it) and pray that u'll survive xD

Beating her after finishing the game is a good thing, since u'll get Lenneth 's sword, and Ethereal Queen tri-emblem. Not only that if i'm not wrong u'll get another dumpling in the secret dungeon

First u must b Lv. 70 In order 2 recuit her u must have all the Theathor Vancoor people recuited. If ur lv. 70 attack her (w/auto cure) Till u have like 300 hp. Then activate full powr and use ur volty blast.

Volty blasts are learned the same way as regular attacks; once you win enough battles with a weapon, you'll learn that weapon's Volty blast. You can also complete the first ten or so training missions for a weapon, but it's faster to just fight battles, especially with Crest accessories equipped.

As for Elwen, talk to her after recruiting all other Theater Vancoor members and then beat her in a fight. NOTE: If you missed any of the side missions, you won't be able to recruit Thanos, which means you can't recruit Elwen either.
