The Godfather
Review by CstevenJ
"NEWS FLASH IV - I'm the Don of NY"
The Godfather game was an amazing play in my opinion. It had good graphics, followed the storyline very well, and contained some amazing details in some cinema scenes. The game involves creating your own character and joining the Corleone family of New York and taking over the areas of Brooklyn, Little Italy, New Jersey, Midtown, and Hell's Kitchen one at a time. You're against the Barzinis of Midtown, Straccis of New Jersey, Tattaglias of Brooklyn, and the Cuneos of Midtown. Throughout the game, you're asked to perform many actions seen in the movies as well as hit contracts against members of each and every family, including the capos and underbosses.
While there are storyline missions and hit contracts to be done, you also have the option to extort businesses and take over the rackets in them, if they have one. Throughout the map, you will see heavily protected warehouses, hubs, and compounds, all of which are vulnerable to the forces of the owning family. Taking over all of them is a requirement to the completion of the game and could help you with financial needs a lot.
Everything about 1940s New York is portrayed well in this game, with corrupt cops, g-men, and the black market men along the streets to keep you well stocked with weapons and ammo that will help you take over compounds, hubs, warehouses, businesses, rackets, and even rob the banks along the streets of New York.
Of course, there are illegal deals going with the family throughout the game, and you can find the location of rackets by interrogating the truck driver of the illegal goods to find more areas to take over. Remember, more businesses and rackets, more income.
The point of the game is to become the Don of New York, and to do so, you must complete at least 91.5% of the game. Once you're Don of NY, you have infinite ammo to shoot everyone who tries to interfere with your ways as head of the state. This is a massive help in taking over the rest of New York. Whilst having total control of the state, your income tribute it also lowered with a higher rank. At the rank of Don of NY, you only give up 40% of your share to the family, and once you have a lot of businesses and rackets, the income can become really high.
The game is an amazingly fun game and should be considered by all fans of games such as GTA (as the styles are somewhat similar).
Final rating: 9/10, definitely buy it if you see it. Should be a greatest hit.
