Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas: Oogie's Revenge
Review by Crankenstein1
"On this console, we call best, this game ROCKS! over all the most."
The Nightmare before Christmas, a movie based on a poem by Tim Burton, is one of the best movies in existence (IMO), topping the top 3 with Final Fantasy VII: AC and Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King. And in 2002-3, Capcom announced that Tim Burtons: The Nightmare before Christmas would be produced. And, in 2005, the game Oogies Revenge had been released all over the world. America, Europe and Japan.
Story: 10/10: It's been a year after the events of the movie. Jack, still longing after something different, decides to go out in search of new scares again. Before departure, Dr. Finklestein gives Jack the "Soul Robber", a gooey substance that can strecht out and change shape. But, when Jack returns to Halloween Town on 23rd December, the towns changed. While absent, Lock, Shock and Barrel has sewn Oogie together again. And Oogie is lusting for revenge...
Music: 8/10: Composed by Danny Elfman, like in the movie. But, depressingly enough, there's only ONE new song in the game, which I call "Oogie's Way". The rest are all only remixed versions of the original songs, like "The Oogie Boogie song", or "Making Christmas". But, the songs are so well done that it almost dosen't matter.
Controls: 9/10: They are suprisingly easy to wield. With X, you investigate stuff, like in them Resi Evil games. Circle is a jump button, only that it's a spin, or a flip, depending on which direction you're facing. Square is the good, old attacker, and Triangle gives you a stronger attack. Both Square and Triangle can be charged by holding them in. L1 changes you to the Pumpkin King when you unlock him, while R1 changes you to Santa Jack once unlocked. The R2 button changes your target, while L2 activates presents thrown by Santa Jack. The directional buttons causes you to taunt your enemy, possibly turning them into "Oogie mode".
Sound: 10/10: All the cast members that's introduced have a voice. However, not many of the original voice actors came through. Luckily, Jack Skellingtons voices (one for talk and another for song) are originally back. So is Ken Page, AKA Oogie Boogie. But effects are also well sounded: Water, lightning bolts, fire and the Soul Robber as well.
Gameplay: 10/10: The gameplay is smooth, especially in a mode during boss fights, called "Dance Mode", where you can score extra damage on bosses by simply pressing all buttons that appear on screen. But it's not that simple, as they come as the song progresses.
Overall: 10/10: I've only got nine words to describe this game: THIS. IS THE. BEST. VIDEO. GAME. I'VE. EVER PLAYED!!!!!!!!
